The place is small. They have a small outdoor seating area and small indoor seating. The place smells heavy of food odor. I think they need better ventilation in the kitchen. Service is terrible. It took forever to get drinks. Took forever to get food, and they got the order wrong. Had to ask twice for the check. Then ended up having to go to bar to ask for the check. I mentioned the slow service and the waitress took 20% off our tab. I would’ve given 1 star if not for that.

Came here last night to drink with buddies. It was nice little casual atmosphere. We were drinking outside until it started to rain. Grain had a good selection of drinks to choose from. The bartender was also able to make several off the menu drink for us. It was a group of four of us and we had probably ordered about five drinks for each of us that night. The workers were pretty attentive to our needs and we enjoyed our night until closing time. If you want a nice chill spot for drinks, I would recommend this place.

I always love coming to Grain. Delicious cocktails and food, and they’re always changing the menu which is fun. Both indoor and outdoor seating are great. This is one of the most charming bars/restaurants I’ve ever been to. Please bring back the Don’t Ever Change cocktail :)

#85 I began my day at Grain upon the recommendation of a family member that lives in the area. I am still figuring out where to go, what to do, yada, yada, yada, and I absolutely rely on recommendations of friends and family until I am re-acclimated to the Atlanta area. I think I found a new place to hang out – Grain in Midtown – upscale, beautifully decorated, open and spacious, attentive service, amazing cocktails and small bites. I almost felt like I was back in the Bay Area with the attention to detail and the delicious flavor in the tastings we ordered. Grain was a win for sure. I sat outside in the large and spacious patio area. The climate was wonderful, why waste the day inside? First came the fabulous cocktails: Not So Neutral Low Knees My companion loved the Not So Neutral. It is a bourbon based drink with vermouth and bitters. Pretty delicious. I went with the Low Knees as I am a vodka girl. This drink had plenty of vodka, a splash of citrus – maybe lemon – and rhubarb. It was sublime. I usually go with a martini, but the cocktail menu was so highly recommended that I had to go ‘off the grid’ for at least one day. I was not disappointed, for sure. The drinks were hand crafted and the ingredients were extremely fresh. Next, it was time to start exploring the marvelous menu. First up: Oysters Yellow Fin Tartare I started with oysters. I almost never go wrong with oysters. These were delicious. Ice cold, super fresh. I also ordered the yellow fin tartare, and that was hands down some of the best yellow fin I have ever tasted. Something about fresh, cold fish on a warm southern afternoon makes my tummy smile. After all that yummy super fresh seafood, it was time to try a Dirty South delicacy: Fried Green Tomatoes The fried green tomatoes are worth trying. These were some of the freshest, tastiest green tomatoes. A little bitter, battered with a light crunchy panko to add that tiny bit of texture and served alongside of some wonderful sauce for dipping. I almost always try fried green tomatoes wherever I go in the south; however, these really were amazing. Finally, I decided to try the Grain interpretation of a Louisiana classic: Beignet. I am usually not a fan of anything sweet – I am already full of sugar ;) But seriously, no matter where I order beignets, they are never quite as good as the ones in NOLA. Well, surprise me again Grain with these fabulous little beignets. To die for – yummy, yummy. After ordering another round of cocktails and thinking about all the calories I had just consumed, I decided I would most definitely return to Grain to continue exploring their menu – cocktails and foods. Stephani Smiles for Grain ;) #bringafriendandanappetite

Great place for a quick bite or to try a bunch of small plates. I usually get one of the charcuterie and cheese selections and then add something else. Specials rotate often and are usually pretty good. The bartenders are excellent and can make everything. Bob is also a pretty cool guy who has been around and is a friendly dude. Steps from the Renaissance it is one of my go to spots when I’m in town.

We participated in Grain’s Valentines day event. It was a small space for so many people, but with the drinks flowing and a few food bites in my belly we had a great time. The Grain team made the event special; even let us behind the bar to try our newly learned creations. The oysters were the special treat of the day that everyone loved. I think this would be a great date spot to have some drinks with that special friend. I would try to find an off time when it isn’t crowded, but I bet those times are far and few between. Make sure the staff stays super friendly! I can’t wait to try when it is just a regular period as they actually closed the bar for this event.

Cozy place for a cocktail with a great industrial style interior and expansive bar. Grain is a bit crowded, quite intentionally as the space is narrow and long with tables along the glass facing W Peachtree St. This Friday it was quite busy but we still managed to crowd four stools around this dinky table cantilevered from a post in the corner. We would have stayed longer but the live music, usually welcome, was so loud it was difficult to have a conversation. Service was quite good with an attention usually reserved for joints more upscale and less busy.

Classy yet casual. A perfect, first-date type of spot. The setup is simple but executed well: cocktails, small plates, and oysters. In other words, you’ve got good drinks, just enough nibbles, and an aphrodisiac. If you’re with a group and out to mingle with strangers, this ain’t the place. But if you’re looking for intimate and tucked away from the scene, this place is arranged for you and another to get your chemistry on.

It may look like a small little bar from the outside, but don’t overlook this place! These are some of the best and most unique drinks I’ve had. I came here late at night so unfortunately they were out of oysters on my visit. Cute place to catch up with a friend or for date night. There are a few high tables in this restaurant/bar, so it’s very cozy. My favorite drink was the«Pirate Smile»…wait for it… Matusalem Reserva(rum), hard cider, lime, honey, chocolate, and frozen chamomile. Whoever created all these drinks is a genius. You would never think to get a drink that has all of these ingredients mixed together, and I was a bit hesitant at first, but it was so good that I got another. Instead of a giant ice cube, it’s an ice cube of chamomile instead. What a nice touch. I have only good things to say about this place, so please do yourself a favor and get a few drinks here.

I ended up here with my friends on NYE because Cypress was at capacity and recommended that we come here to ring in the new year. Sad that we could not meet our friends at Cypress, we reluctantly headed to Grain to grab a few cocktails at 10:30 that night. The ambiance is quite cute and cozy. Definitely had a neighborhood feel. The four of us grabbed drinks at the bar. Service was good which was a pleasant surprise given it was NYE. It started getting packed at 11:30. I can only review the cocktail portion of the menu at this time. I ordered a Ma Petite which was very tasty and refreshing. Hope to return here and order some food and draft cocktails. Never had a draft cocktail! The most entertaining part of the night was at midnight when the balloons hanging above the bar were suppose to be released. There was a malfunction and it had to be done manually. Everyone got a nice laugh about that.

Grain is about a year new. I came on a Sunday night around 10:15PM. The place wasn’t super packed but at the same time at quite a bit of customers. Amy was the bartender, super friendly and helpful. Tell her what you like and she can modify drinks to your liking. While all the drinks were good, they were a bit on the sweeter side(I prefer things more dry /strong). However, I’d say the drinks are quite solid for what you get, service, as well as for the price. I came alone after visiting my dad since I’d be wanting to check this place out(they were closed on xmas eve :(). I wouldn’t mind coming back again next time, but with friends or else I’d prefer to continue checking out different cocktail bars in Atlanta to gather additional data points. :) P. S. the track lights at the bar provides the perfect lighting for taking pictures of your pretty cocktails!

Old fashioneds on tap!!! Great food! Open till 3am. This is my new favorite place. I found this place by searching on Unilocal for late night. Booze: Old fashioned and a cucumber martini. Old fashioned was perfect. The martini was one of the best I have ever had in my life. Food: Lobster roll –super fresh and tasty. I had a couple of other things. All great. Service: The bartenders were super friendly. The place was packed and they kept their cool. I will definitely be back!

Things I love: tequila, oysters, and beets. Things I was able to have deliciously prepared for me at Grain: tequila, oysters, and beets. First of all, the ambience is quite classy. Second, the service is great. And third, my palette was pleasantly surprised. I had the don’t ever change cocktail, and there is quite literally nothing I would change to make it better, so please don’t ever change! If I HAD to give one critique, it would be that my beet salad had a bit too much dressing, but that could be a personal taste. I highly recommend drizzling the mignonette sauce on your oysters if you order them.

Stopped in for a quick drink the other night. I love the intimate, dimly lit setting. I had a glass of wine and a cheese selection. I’d love to go back and try some other menu and drink selections. Staff was super friendly.

Why the 2 stars? The reason is because the two waitresses working there that night totally saw my friend and I enter in the bar and seat ourselves. We were waiting for a good 50 minutes.(Did i mention we weren’t even greeted at all? No hi or anything at all). Then my friend decided to get the waitresses’ attention that we wanted to order something. We finally got served. We watched other customers being served before us and the place was not overly crowded. Drinks? Yeah, the drinks there and such were good, I also noticed they had a happy hour for oysters which is cool. I will come back to give this place another try to see if service is better. I am big on second chances, and I’ll give this place a second chance and see how it goes til then.

In town for a quick business trip so was looking for a local spot to grab a drink… The biggest selling point of this place seems to be the hours, though not sure if they sell liquor until 3am. Small space, but midweek at 11pm it was the perfect spot for a cocktail. The outside patio and sidewalk is beautiful and a great place to relax.

Cute little restaurant that we went to to start off our restaurant-hopping adventures. There is a small selection of oysters. I believe I had the Kumamoto before and played it safe by confirming that it is not very salty. This was one of the more memorable ones. I will come back for happy hour to try more but still stick to the least salty ones. Crawfish fritters are made fresh such that when split open, steam rises. I can barely taste the crawfish but it may be due to me over dipping in the red pepper remoulade. It heats up the back of my throat in a good way. There is patio and bar seating. Service was great! Looking forward to coming back!

When Cypress Street was full before the Rolling Stones concert, we headed to Grain. The server was hustling, but the bartenders and kitchens were not backing her up. It took 30 minutes to get a glass of wine. After 1 hour, still no sign of raw oysters or corndogs, so we cancelled the order of corndogs. In the mean time, when we wanted another round, I walked inside to the bar to buy 3 Gennessee Cream cans with cash, since it had taken so long for the first round. Finally the oysters come out but the runner took the food to a different group. Amy, our awesome server, made it up to us with a free round. I look forward to returning to check out the food since Amy did such a good job of making us feel welcome.

Go to Grain! The atmosphere is pretty cool with different indoor and outdoor seating. The real attraction is the unusual and delicious drinks. Everything we had was top notch and not your standard Old Fashioned. We ordered the Not So Neutral and the Strong Arm both of which were damn tasty! Since they had Genesee Cream Ale from Rochester, NY for only $ 2 we had to get that too. Pretty good beer for only $ 2! I would definitely visit Grain again next time I’m in Atlanta.

I might be a little but biased, since this place is so close to home, but I can safely say I am a fan of Grain. The interior is small, but they’ve made the most of it with tons of bar seating and a pretty generous patio. The interior is sleek and cool, with a similar feeling to Seven Lamps or Bellwood’s, with unfinished wood and wire twisted bar stools. This is a true cocktail bar, with an interesting menu of rotating daily special«draft» cocktails. Though $ 11 for an old fashioned(especially one that’s premixed) is pricey, it was indeed a beautifully mixed drink and a perfect winter cocktail. The rest of the cocktail menu looked amazingly tempting, so I know I’ll be exploring that next time. The food menu is lots of charcuterie and small plates, with a solid selection of oysters on the half shell. From 5−7pm Monday through Friday, they run a $ 1/oyster happy hour. Though the $ 1 oysters were a little on the small side this particular evening, they were beautifully plated with some cucumber mignonette and a house made cocktail sauce. Our servers were also phenomenal — friendly and attentive and even brought us samples of the draft cocktail we didn’t select(a really nice touch). One note on the location — it’s on the lower level of MidCity lofts, which faces Spring Street but Grain is on the West Peachtree St side next to the Renaissance hotel. No dedicated parking, so find a spot on the street(feed the meter or risk the wrath of ParkAtlanta!) or park in the Centergy or BIltmore decks and walk over.
