Delicious food but it is for sure on the expensive side. I loved the steak and snails ummm so good my mouth is watering now. I took my bf here and he turned out to like it also just not the 300 $ tab lol I’ve only been twice and I always get steak so I might not be a big help on this review.

So let’s get this cleared quick, food… amazing! Service… wonderful! Atmosphere… stupid and pathetic. It was my birthday and my boyfriend wanted to treat me to something nice. We tried our best not to let this get to us but, if you want to hang out with douchebags who can easily expense a $ 700+ dinner for 5 and treat everyone(servers included) like shit, or entitled daddy’s-money-a**holes who also treat people around them in a «fancy» restaurant awful, then please go here to drop nearly $ 300 on a meal. Delicious, but shitty wanna-bes around you. Is it worth it?! If so, you’re probably THAT a**hole. Just saying. Won’t be returning to deal with that BS. And yes I called the manager afterwards to express my concern. You know he did? Blamed it on the server! Yet, we didn’t see or hear from a manger the entire meal, which at many fancier and classy restaurants, the manager usually takes the time to make sure everything was good for their clients. Disappointed in that GM and in Hal’s. I want everyone in Atlanta to know what kind of cliental and managers frequent/run this establishment.

Exceptional restaurant that I happened to stumble upon. It was late so I didn’t try the steaks, which looked amazing, but instead opted for a few small plates. Crab salad was good but unremarkable – there was plenty of nice craw club meet on it. The carpaccio was divine… really delicious. Their gumbo was exceptional – and I am a tough critic when it comes to gumbo, but this stuff was the real deal. The bartender Gabriella was friendly, the beer was cold, and Hal’s was a great spot to sit at the bar and enjoy a solid meal on a Thursday night. Would definitely go back the next time I’m in Buckhead.

Took family here to celebrate a special work related achievement. We live in Cumming, so we’ve been to Hals in the past but only for VERY special occasions. Tonight was no disappointment! Ellis, our server, was exceptional!!! Appetizer(lobster) was delicious. Scolded the person who tried to take the empty plate though before we could mop up the sauce with the garlic bread:-) Bone in rib eye; bone in filet; filet and lobster were … Well… As my wife said«better than the steaks I cook on the green egg» I can’t say I agree but probably some pride talk’n there… Needless to say, a truly memorable evening. Which, if you are a middle class family like us, you want these special occasions to be. Memorable! Thanks Hals!

I’ve heard good things about this place, but I wasn’t impressed to say the least. Service was awful and my filet was not good. Only good thing about this place was the crème brûlée for dessert.

Steak was very good. Sea bass was good and cooked properly, but I’ve had better fish preparations-the sauce just tasted like tomato juice. Veggies, all a la carte, and desserts are decent but nothing special. Prices are outrageous, especially for the entrees and steaks-the tenderloin with a one vegetable side was $ 53. Not a comfortable atmosphere either. The tables for two are small and crowded; I watched them twice try to seat people at these small tables, only to watch them subsequently move to larger tables. Also, when the bar crowd shows at 8:00ish, it gets very noisy. For the price, I think there are other steakhouses I prefer to patronize.

Short & simple… go for the steaks & ambiance, they’re phenomenal; not for the fish, it’s sub par. Also, they received a 56 health score earlier this year, yikes!

«Disappointed» is one word to describe my dining experience here. I had heard so much hype about this place, yet it didn’t live up to my expectations. Upon entering the establishment, one is hit with the smell of stale cigars and cigarettes and one must push through the crowd in the bar area to get through to the dining room. Sadly, the dining room is not closed or curtained off, so the smoke permeated the entire restaurant and added to my displeasure while eating. I started off with their«special» appetizer which consisted of battered and fried oysters topped with crab meat and drenched in a garlic butter sauce. Sounds good, right? The seasoned batter and heavy garlic butter overwhelmed the palate to where I wasn’t even sure it was an oyster that I was eating. However, I must say that the sauce was good for dipping their hot, crusty garlic bread! Next, I tried the lobster bisque and it was only«okay.» It contained a good amount of lobster meat and it seemed like someone had gone a bit overboard when adding the sherry. Great for those«alkies» out there looking for an alternative to drinks from the bar. The bone-in ribeye came next. I had ordered medium rare but what came out was raw. Sadly, I had to send it back. They got it just right the second time. It came with a side of angel hair pasta in marinara sauce which had a little spicy kick to it. For dessert, I opted for the NY cheesecake with chocolate sauce which was rich, creamy and absolutely amazing… and the sole reason I’m adding an extra star to this otherwise 2-star rating. Lastly, for the prices charged, there are far better places in Atlanta to get an amazing steak. This place seems to be «hit or miss» and for my experience today, definitely NOT worth a second visit.

Hal’s was truly a lucky stab in the dark. Now I consulted the olé Unilocaler adviser & then made an educated decision due to the proximity to the JW Marriott in Buckhead. This turned out to be the best decision I made in Atlanta. The service & the food is outstanding at Hal’s. I will now go back. I started by going to the bar and having a couple of belts of MaCallans and spoke with a few of the locals while gazing in amazement at all the beautiful young ladies working at Hal’s. Eye candy. They all looked to be young Italians… with…on to the food~ we the got our reserved table, the waiter brought us the house made bread and garlic roasted olive oil. Your biggest problem of the night will be trying to stop eating this. I would not let him carry it away till we ordered desert. If you like such things; you will be in heaven. The waiter was excellent and his recommendations was right on. The vino was wonderful — great with the bread and roasted garlic olive oil. We then got the chopped salad & Cesar-both very good. Next we had the Escargot~ Delish and prepared in the traditional way. There were so many good choices. On to the main course we got the Filet Mignon Au Poivre & the 22oz Cowboy bone in ribeye. The steaks we amazing cooked to perfect medium-rare. Both were Au Poivre or rubbed with peppercorns and both steaks were seared perfectly, cooked to perfection and extremely juicy. We also got the recommended sides that included Garlic Mashed Potatoes~Creamed Spinach~Mac & Cheese. They were all delicious. The Creamed Spinach & Mac & Cheese were both world class incredible. We finished with coffee, one cream-brûlée and 2 spoons. This was truly one of the best meals I’ve eaten with an extraordinary staff! Treat yourself and Go to Hal’s.

The best steak I’ve ever had! So tender I could cut into it with my fork! They also serve the most amazing mussels! We enjoyed the white wine butter sauce, from the mussels, so much that we used it as a dip for the bread!

I was supposed to be meeting a friend for a business lunch later this week at Hal’s, then the AJC posted this recent news from the health department. Hal’s received a 56 on their health inspection! That’s a FAILING grade. I’ve always winced when friends wanted to meet at Hal’s. I really dislike the place. I find the waiters brusque to the point of rudeness and the kitchen has not EVER gotten me a steak Pittsburgh rare. Usually it doesn’t come out charred but the one time it did, it was medium. When I told them it was over cooked, they said, «that’s because you asked for it charred.» No, that is not the reason. It’s because they charred it and then still put it in the broiler as though it hadn’t been. Hal’s management needs to go to Bones, Chops, NYC Prime or even McKendricks to see how steaks should be prepared… oh and how to clean a kitchen and keep prepared foods without risking customer illness. (For purposes of veracity. Here’s the link to the AJC article: )

Hal’s has always been one of my favorite restaurants but after tonight, I will never go again. We sat upstairs and the bar was crowded at least ten deep with people leaning on your table, blocking the servers from getting drinks, and the noise was deafening. The young manager walked around and did nothing when we complained. This is one restaurant worth skipping. Try NY Prime or Bones, much better atmosphere and the managers actually care.

First time going and I can say it is truly overrated, it was very noisy and you had to talk very loud to hold a conversation. The steak was delicious but the mashed potatoes and spinach both tasted like they were from a box. Great place to hang out if you like very over priced food and wanted to be surrounded by business professional, but as far as the overall experience it was like an over priced sports bar. I have had better steaks at other places. The servers were great.

Mussels & dessert were good. Service was very slow and cold. My wife and I ordered two medium rib-eyes. My wife’s was perfect and mine was extremely under cooked like raw(Im okay with a medium rare and this was raw) My Wife’s steak came out, a perfect medium. I Called the waiter over and I pointed out the rawness. I understand Mistakes happen, even at a fancy steakhouse but, this is where Hals loses me as a customer. The waiter said hold on, then check his ticket ??? and agree I ask for medium, He took the plate and left. 15 min later, my already cut steak, came back well done and over cooked, hamburger like lol. my wife had already finished half her steak.(Which was amazing) Trying not to ruin the night,(1 year wedding anniversary) I took a bite. but, felt like I was eating a hamburger. So, At this point with the slow service, I told the waiter to forget about the steak. With no apology, no manager, or emotion, the waiter simply said, I’ll take it off your bill and walked away with the hamburger steak. They did bring us a free desert, I guess for the mistake. A simple, I’m sorry would’ve gone a lot further with me.

We were visiting from out of town and Hal’s was recommend by the concierge. The food was excellent. My husband got a steak and I ordered the fish special. Both were yummy! Ok, so yes, I’m the one who gives Hal’s one star, and I’m going to tell you all why, so you will all think about it before you blow your hard earn money at this place. We have dinned at Bone’s, Chops, Little Alley Steak House, Kevin Rathbaun’s, and now this because my husband and I just enjoy steaks this much, and we wanted to try these places which are famous for their steaks. 1. The place only has valet parking, small side entrance, and two floors. You would walk in, turn the corner to the left and then you would see the host stand, however, the entire first floor dinning area and the bar was FILLED with cigarettes and cigar smokes!!! Loud and smoky, makes you wonder maybe this is one of these high end cigar bar type of steak house, nope… it is not… sadly. Once again, obnoxiously smoky and loud. 2. Thank God we were seated upstairs, and you would even pass a old fashion cigarettes vending machine? 3. Second floor includes indoor seating, full bar, and covered patio seatings. We were seated in a private corner table which seemed private and quiet, but NO… the entire second floor was also LOUD, there was no private quiet high end classy romantic feeling at all, in fact, you could barely hear each other talking and we had a pretty small table too!!! Even the waiter kept on asking us to repeat what we said, because it was that loud. 4. We ordered white wine mussels, which was extremely tasty. The herb garlic bread was fresh and tasty too, and who would know these were the high points of this entire meal, and everything else just went down hill from there. 5. My husband ordered Maker’s mark and club soda, yet the second drink took entire 30 min to show at the table after we reminded our waiter, yet we were charged for this. $ 15 per drink. 6. My husband ordered their«recommended» special of the night which was the Hal’s bone in ribeye, medium. I ordered their regular bone in ribeye, medium. BUT, my husband’s «special» of the night came out RAW… of course we sent it back to have it re done. It came out the second time, SAMEPIECEOFSTEAK, EXCEPTTHEYCOOKTHATSAMEPIECEOFRAWSTEAKMOREONBOTHSIDES??? Leaving the outer layer of the meat completely over done, and the middle were still RAW!!! I had mentioned we dinned at fancy steak houses before, sometimes they cooked it wrong, they took it back, and re cook a new piece of meat, because you basically CANNOT fix a steak, and we all pay so much so this piece of meat so we want it done right, right!!! WELL, NOTTHISPLACE!!! We called the waiter again, to tell him that this is not edible, he slightly apologized, told us that he could take this off the bill, and cook a new one but there will be a charge… lol…WHAT!!! You call yourself fancy place with the best steaks in town, but you messed up your steak twice, and now you want us to still pay for you guys to get it right the third time!!! My husband said no thanks, he would just share my piece. Thankfully, mine was done right. 7. Our waiter was also taking care of the party in the private room next to us, so he obviously did not have time to apologize or anything i guess. 8. He ended up giving us a free drink and two free dessert, but DUDE, not to be rude, WEWANTEDSTEAKS, WECAMEHEREFORTHESTEAKS, YOURECOMMENDEDTHESPECIALSTEAKOFTHENIGHT, ANDTHENYOUGUYSMESSEDUPTWICE. We did not come for the desserts, nor interested in having free drinks, because it is a Tuesday night and we can’t get wasted anyways!!! lol… My husband was very upset that he didn’t get to eat his steak, but we kept in classy… lol…no manager came out to apologize, nor our waiter was apologetic either. Oh, did i mention we came here for our one year wedding anniversary!!! Good thing our marriage is still going strong, so i had no problem sharing my steaks… We will not be back… lol… We will be taking our business to Bone’s or Chops, where people appreciate and know how to cook their steaks correctly. Not to mention the top notch service, AND the nice and quiet environment. I mean what is this place? The loudest sports bar which serves fine dining food!!! Bonus: My husband came home and had left over pizzas for dinner :)

This place is one of my favorite restaurants ever. Which to me is saying something as I have found it hard to love a lot of places in this area. Sorry, but its true. Anyway. I have been here multiple times, I literally can not get enough. Service has been pretty good but honestly the food here… I’d serve it to myself, while eating on the floor. It’s that good. The fried lobster app and lump crab meat app special they’ve been running recently is quite possibly one of the best things I have ever eaten. The bone-in, *untrimmed*, ribeye ISTHE best steak I have ever had, hands down. It makes you question whether any other steak you’ve had in life has even been real. Barbant potatoes with garlic and butter makes me want to hold onto something when I bite into each glorious fried bite. I do not know what on earth they do to the steaks though, I don’t care if it involves a barrel of butter. This is what steak should taste like. I order everything I can possible fit into my body in one sitting, even the salads are good. Blue cheese dressing is to die. Hal’s I love you. You are one classy bloody place. This place I will truely miss when I move back North after College. I love the atmosphere so much too. Men in suit jackets and light smell of cigar smoke. I just love everything about it. I always make a reservation and it’s always ready for me no matter how busy they are. Don’t ever change!

I almost feel silly reviewing Hal’s with it being known as one of the best steakhouses in Atlanta, but what is Unilocal for, right? After 4 years, I finally made it here last Saturday with a group of girls for a birthday dinner. Everything was excellent — the martinis, wine, the service, steak, and oh em gee the creamed spinach was by far my favorite. I could have down without the truffle mac n cheese which I didn’t expect to ever say in my life. I only tasted truffle, although I know there was plenttttyyy of cheese in there. Thanks to one too many drinks, I frequented the restroom a few times but I didn’t mind at all. My favorite part of the Hal’s experience was waiting in line and watching all the food come out. It’s like you’re in the kitchen with the staff! Weird, I know. Overall, I give Hal’s 2 thumbs up, but I will say it’s #2 on my list for steakhouses in ATL.

Best steak in Atlanta? Maybe not, but it was definitely a darned good steak. I made a reservation for 11 a week in advance for my birthday steak dinner. If there are more than 12 in your party, you will need to speak with a banquet coordinator and sign a contract, so I cut it close… I just wanted a nice group dinner with a bunch of friends! After waiting in the valet parking line for a couple minutes, we were finally taken care of. We were seated once everyone arrived at 7:30. Note that they will hold your table for 30 minutes. Our server was very sophisticated with his foreign accent and assured us of good service. He brought us garlic bread before taking our orders. The garlic bread was shockingly homey and delicious — not the typical bread and butter I was expecting. I ordered the 12oz filet mignon with a side of creamed spinach, per the recommendation of my Starbucks barista earlier that day. How can you go wrong with creamed spinach? This steak is not a dry-aged steak. Therefore, I cannot compare it to my dry-aged porterhouse experience at Bones or Kevin Rathbun’s Steak. The steak was simple, a little more rare than medium rare, but the center of the rare steak was still barely warm when I got to it. It was tasty, although not as seasoned as I would have liked. The crust on top was the sole seasoning source to the steak. But otherwise, I did enjoy my steak and ate all 12oz of it. The creamed spinach was not so good. Tasted like ranch mixed with cooked spinach. It was a little sour, and I couldn’t take more than a couple small bites before I gave up. It just wasn’t good. I wouldn’t recommend it at all. The experience was just ok. I was slightly disappointed so decided to skip the dessert. Best steak in Buckhead isn’t at Hal’s, but it’s definitely a cheaper alternative to Bone’s.

This is the fast food of fine dining. I’ve been to many fine dining steak houses in Texas and Bones in Buckhead. Fine dining usually includes relaxing, taking your time in between courses, and excellent service. None of that happened. The table was literally as wide as myself, I’m 6’4″ 255, and was uncomfortable against the wall. I usually don’t comment on how people look but there was a table of men wearing basketball shorts, flip flops, and t-shirts. So I couldn’t tell if I was at a fine dining establishment or not. Our waiter was mid 60’s and very informative about the menu and seemed really nice. He did not continue with this great attitude. We ordered on recommendations app, soup, and steak. This«fine dining» establishment didn’t have Bushmills Black Bush so I had to go with Makers Mark. App was a special for the night and was out very quick after our order but was very tasty. Before the app was even finished the soup was on the table. As I said before this table was small so bread, app, two soups, and two drinks made for very little room. I had the gumbo which was overly salty and almost inedible. We finished with the soup and someone finally came by to bus the table. I ask the waiter at that time I would like one more Makers and a glass of red wine with my steak. As soon as he walked away the steaks were on the table. No one asked us to check our steaks to make sure they were cooked correctly. Mine was fine but my wife’s was overdone. Our waiter brought out my Makers which I wanted before the main course so I asked the waiter to send it back and bring the red wine. Waiter had so much attitude I wasn’t sure I would get my wine. I did at the very end of the meal and he had a bus boy bring it to me. The steaks were overly salty as well. I’ve had better prepared steaks at Waffle House. So to end the night our waiter asked if we wanted dessert. We declined. The waiter turned around and walked off without saying a word. Another waiter brought us our check. This waiter’s tip reflected his service. From seat to walk out was 45 mins. I’ve spent more time and had better service at a Friday’s for goodness sake. Bones blows this place away. Not even close.

Hands down the best meal I’ve had in a long time. Shawn was our server for a party of 7. We had creamed spinach, lobster mac and cheese mushrooms asparagus potatoes with blue cheese. A lot I know! Everything but the potatoes. I love salt, and the steak topped with Lobster had the best combination of flavor. Every single seat was packed. Lots of suits. I would never bring my family here, but I would take every other opportunity to come here if I was in the area.

The coolest restaurant in Atlanta. Hal’s has an old-fashioned wood paneled smoke-haze steakhouse vibe nailed. Hal’s is the sort of restaurant you’d imagine Frank Sinatra and his buddies living it up in, circa 1974, eating steak and swigging Martinis and scotch(Or Ron Burgundy come to think of it). Hal’s Ribeye is probably the best steak in Atlanta. It’s definitely the best among the old-guard steakhouses, Bone’s, Chops, etc. The steaks are well seasoned with a superb crust. However, their doneness levels err on the low side. Which is a macho affection. A rare steak is cold raw. I’m usually a rare steak person. At Hal’s, I’ll order medium-rare at least. Their steaks are so well-marbled they can handle a little extra heat. Too rare, and all that delicious tallow can be waxy. All of the other dishes are expertly executed as well. The Lamb and Osso Bucco are excellent. The grilled oysters are the best I’ve had outside NOLA. The sides are all 60% butter in the best way. The wine list and bar service are on point. Hal’s is one of the few places I trust to do a Gin Martini properly. The service is usually very professional. They are always attentive, prompt and well paced. However, we had one visit where I felt our waiter was rudely pushing more expensive menu items. It’s very expensive. It’s not totally unreasonable given the clientele, competition and quality. But it’ll break the bank for sure. I’ve been to Hal’s many times for business dinners and bachelor parties. It’s a great pick for those occasions. It’s probably a little loud for a romantic evening.(Unless you’re trying to impress a date 20+ years younger than you.) It’s often smokey and it can be very tightly crowded.

After almost 5 full years of living in Atlanta and hearing about Hal’s from Day 1, I have finally made my first trip. Traditionally speaking a trip to Hal’s is followed immediately by a trip to Johnny’s Hideaway just up the street. The two should never be separated but for the most extreme circumstances. I have now sampled a fair number of the more well-known steakhouses across Atlanta(Bones, Marcel, Kevin Rathbun Steak, and Hal’s) and I have to say that from my experience, Hal’s is second only to Rathbun. Where my Rathbun experience was other-worldly there is not much to elaborate on for my Hal’s experience. I love the atmosphere of Hal’s, the lounge feel, the old style in a world of sleek modern dining experiences. Hal’s has aged well. When it comes to the food, all was wonderful and the steak was top notch. No fancy words or long descriptors. I ate my steak and just genuinely thought to myself«That is one of the best steaks I have ever had.» In short, I was content. Pure and simple.

I went here tonight for a friends birthday dinner. Never been here before. It was packed. Our reservation was at 8, we weren’t seated until like 8:20 or so. Not the end of the world. The service was really good and so was the food. This place has an upper and lower level. We sat at the lower level which was really loud. They have a live piano guy playing and singing songs and it’s hard to have any conversations. So next time we will reserve a place up top. The food was perfect. My husband and I split the three medallion filets which came with crab and hollandaise sauce. Love that stuff! It was cooked perfectly. As a side we had mashed potatoes and white truffle mac and cheese which was delicious. I would recommend this place. The atmosphere is definitely more of a business one. Dress nice.

Hal’s caters to an older crowd that is wealthy, but it’s a steakhouse, so that’s fine.(At the table next to me last night, a group discussed their relationship with Clint Eastwood and about one diner’s daughter’s equestrian classes. Do with this what you will.) The ambiance also plays to a previous era, and I felt a little underdressed even though most diners were casual in golf shirts, khakis and/or shorts(even last night, which was in the 60s!). When it comes to food, Hal’s is incredible, at least in the meats department. Tried a 12-ounce filet mignon, medium rare. Exceptional, flavorful, nice char, plate wasn’t burning which was refreshing. Had a glass of the cab from a Paso Robles winery, did the cubed potatoes with garlic butter, creamed spinach, and the chocolate cake with ice cream. The cake was dry and the ice cream was a bust, so you can safely skip dessert here, but the rest of the meal was exceptional, as was the service. Looking forward to visiting during my next work trip.

Came back here over the weekend for my friend’s bachelor party dinner. There were 7 of us and it was all of their first time trying steak at Hal’s. Ultimately, they all loved it. Five of us ordered Prime Bone-In Ribeye and two ordered blackened filet mignon. I had the ribeye per usual. It was a party in my mouth and all my tastebuds were invited. It was grilled to perfection with good amount of searing on the outside to give that hint of burnt flavor plus good balance of seasoning. Steak was very tender yet had enough consistency to not be too mushy. Our waiter was attentive but not too annoyingly overbearing. I highly recommend this place.

I can honestly say that I have just eaten the singular greatest steak I’ve ever eaten in my life. The blackened filet mignon was absolute butter — I’m not kidding — I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything that more closely resembled the texture of butter other than butter itself — the steak literally melts in your mouth. So the service could use a little polish here and there and the decibel level can get a little challenging when the place fills up(which is often, I understand) — who cares? This place is about steak — and their steak is 5-star plus! Didn’t hurt that I finished off with some Louisiana bread pudding(homemade ice cream, of course) and enjoyed a couple of great glasses of wine from their very extensive list during dinner — this place is absolutely worth a visit — sooner rather than later — trust me!

So, upon walking in this place reminds me of another restaurant near Roswell Road called Brooklyn Café. Same kind of vibe on a Friday night. Friendly people, great ambiance and just an all around good feel. Upon checking in with the hostess about our reservation, there’s a piano player/singer to the left. I had to tip him because he was playing and singing all of the greats. We made a reservation about 10 minutes prior to arriving so we had to wait about 10 extra minutes but with the smooth sounds of the piano man I didn’t quite mind. Once we were seated our waiter was very attentive and knew the menu, wine list and desserts without having to refer to the menu. I love when my server is on point and this older gentleman certainly was one of the best! I was only drinking red wine but I like sweet reds, not the bitter taste of the dry ones so he made me something like a red wine spritzer which was delightful to say the least. I ordered the ribeye with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. My steak was delicious & cooked just the way I asked! I can’t say it was the best steak I’ve ever had but it definitely satisfied my steak craving I’ve been having for quite some time now. These were some of the best mashed potatoes ever though. Rarely do I not have to add salt & pepper and a little butter, but there tasted great without any additions. Mr. Man got some kind of veal entrée that he liked, which surprised me because I just knew he’d get a steak. All in all pretty good restaurant. I’m still waiting for a steak house to BLOWMEAWAY and this didn’t quite do it for me, but it was definitely a nice meal. I can cross this off my list and hopefully make it to Kevin Rathbun’s sooner than later.
