Disappointing. Modern style food with no flavor or character. Had grouper with a strange orange sauce. There at 6 pm on a Saturday and the place was dead. Maybe it is more of a late night spot. I’m surprised they are still in business. Very expensive for what you get.

I’ll begin by giving a pass to this establishment for my experience… maybe Modern was having an off night. With that said, we dined on a Friday night at 7. It is located in the heart of Buckhead, so you expect a vibrant, lively scene. Right? Wrong! It was dead. We were one of five tables. The food – I ordered the crab cake appetizer. It was full of crab meat – YAY! I was so excited when I cut it open, it had no filler. It also, had had no heat applied to it. It arrived cold, after sending it back to be cooked, it was still bland. A waist of a great appetizer considering the amount of crab meat that was used. Originally, I ordered the chicken. It was explained to me by our server that it was a «one bone», roasted chicken. It was not. It was some sort of fried creation that tasted like dark meat. The flavor was decent, but I couldn’t get past the smell and consistency of dark meat chicken. I opted for the scallops instead. They were good. For this type of establishment, I would expect the servers to be knowledgeable about their menus, ours was not. When asked for suggestions or ideas – everything was good. It was not. The ambiance was nice. The décor very cool and inviting. The staff friendly. The food – was not good enough to bring me back!

The ambiance of this place is quite lovely, but I thought the food and service did not match up to the expectations I had for this place… It was Friday night and I called ahead to see if it would be busy and they said the wait would be about an hour. I got there hoping to snag a seat at the bar and the place was soooo empty! It took a minute for my server to even catch my drink order. Also, I didn’t have a complete meal here but some light snacks to accompany my drink. The food was«just ok.» it seemed like typical bar food… I wasn’t impressed nor do I have the desire to come back and try again. Lets see how long this place will last in the corner,

Amazing ambiance. Beautiful décor. They have all of the things on the menu that i am looking for: sauteed spinach, steak, sea bass etc. They serve some of the best American and Comfort food.

I went here 4 my friend’s bday dinner & was NOT impressed. @ 10:00 on a Saturday night I expected this place 2 be crowded. Our party of 6 was part of the 20 ppl in this place. The salad I ordered had entirely 2 much dressing on it. The menu is very limited. There was 1 chicken dish, 2 steak dishes and the rest was exotic fish. Our server Steven seemed like he would rather have been somewhere else. He was reaching over people & not very nice UNTIL I ask his name. Immediately after I asked his name he started checking on ppl at the table and asking how our food was. I don’t recommend this place & I will NOT go back. As a matter of fact I don’t see this place staying open very long. I read some reviews on OpenTable and they weren’t very good either.

Went for lunch. We were the only two in the massive restaurant. Our server was awkward, to say the least, and he was training another wait person. The water glasses were dirty and had to be replaced. I ordered the tuna nicoise salad– there was no presentation and all the ingredients were hidden under the massive pieces of lettuce. The restaurant is beautiful, but it has serious issues. We won’t be back.

Best burger ever! It’s a nice space but really large so hard to look full. The staff and servers were great.

Drinks are strong, service is good, ambiance is lovely, and the food is delicious. This spot is a must try for a date-night or girls night out in Buckhead. My husband and I tried this place after seeing their commercial and realizing it was a new addition to our neighborhood. Tried the poached lobster, crab cake, and scallops… all were excellent. The one complaint is that portions are small.

I went out with a group of friends and the food was wonderful! I had the NY Strip and another in the group had the Beef Tenderloin… they were both good(but I think his was better!)! The manager, Jared Blum, was very helpful when we talked to him… I would highly recommend the restaurant and the wonderful food! I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in Buckhead…

After popping into this place on a Friday night with no reservation and not even knowing what this place was about, I can say that it was money well spent on trying a new restaurant. Despite being seriously under dressed, the hostess as well as the rest of the serving staff made me feel comfortable. The wine menu isn’t as large &/or daunting as some other fine dining restaurants, and that could either be a blessing or a curse depending on if you’re a wine snob. I personally couldn’t find a white wine that struck a chord with me, so I opted for a Manhattan with Maker’s — my cocktails were on point all night. The bartender obviously knows how to make a Manhattan, which means martinis are probably Modern’s forte as well. The seafood risotto was excellent… a bit overpriced, but whatever. I would definitely drop in Modern again, but I think I’ll be better dressed next time; it is BUCKHEAD after all.

We dined here with another couple on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago, and the entire place was happening. There are actually four areas: large bar; cocktail lounge(set up with high tops); main dining room; and a private dining room(for 12+). We were offered a choice of table or booth. One couple shared an appetizer of YELLOWFINTUNATARTARE with cucumber, avocado, and soy sauce powder, served with baguette toast @ $ 15. It looked very good, and they exclaimed it was delicious. I opted for the PAPPARDELLE pasta with braised beef short rib, sweet peas, mushrooms, mint @ $ 12. It was absolutely fantastic. I could have ordered a full size entrée, it was so good. For our mains: 1 order of WILDSCOTTISHSALMON with corn bread«panzanella» salad, arugula, grain mustard cream @ $ 23; 1 order of CHILEANSEABASS served with jasmine rice, bok choy, and fermented black bean sauce @ $ 30; and the men each ordered the GARLICANDROSEMARYLOINOFLAMB on chickpea purée, with artichokes, grilled scallions, and lamb jus @ $ 28. All fully consumed, and the lamb was tender, moist, and flavorful. Two desserts were ordered, and shared by all: a crème brulee, and a rocky road pie/torte. I’m sorry I had to share, as I would have wanted to eat it all. A bottle each of a full bodied Torbreck syrah and a Stags Leap merlot @ $ 80 each, and our total for the table was $ 320…a feast. We were well tended to by Daniel, our server, and we all commented that we will look forward to returning!

I went there for my friends bday. Nice ambiance and great for large groups. Cocktails were great and so was the food. Overall we were all pleased with our meals. BUT… The service was off. It took us over an hour to get our food. When we complained of our hunger, the waiter was polite and apologetic. He then sent over the manager who was completely un– professional. He was very cold and explained that they had entered a large groups meal into the computer just before ours and that caused a delay. As it was almost 10:30pm at this point, we were rude right back and starving. They could have sent over free appetizers over, or at least a refill of bread. But nothing. In the end, we were sent a glass of champagne each which we drank on empty stomachs :( Like I said, food was good but this situation ruined my friends 30th bday celebration. We were all very angry and because of this experience I would not go back or recommend it either.

Being a short-lived fan of Twin Peaks( ), during my week long tryst there, I realized a place was being built right next to it. And it stated(opening Summer 2012). A few months later, Modern finally opened. I had a fun night out with a friend, and we were looking for a place to go eat/drink. I told her I knew of a perfect place. It was on the same night as a UFC fight, which TP always broadcasts, so it was a busy area! Since we were there on the weekend/after 5PM, we didn’t have to pay to park, so that was cool. Walking up to the front, there is also valet, with a few Bentleys being showcased(ok…). We walked right in and we went straight to the bar. The first two things I realized about this place– how spacious the place was, and there was a decent, diverse crowd. We decided to sit at the end of the bar, close to one of the tvs. Also note the huge outdoor patio they have as well, along with windows that open up to an outside portion, technically giving 360 degrees of a bar– I thought that was very cool. On the back side, there are 100′ TVs, along with large tables and also private rooms for groups too… UYE, anyone? The place– dimly lit, but had lots of cool lights. The name fit it well. The bar area was huge, with thick granite counters and comfy padded backless stools. Hell, I was able to sit there for 4 hours, so it had to have been comfy. The drink menu was limited, as they said they were introducing a few of their cocktails at a time– which is cool, they said they are still waiting on certain ingredients as well. So that made one case to go back. The drinks I did have were decent, however I can’t remember what I had. I do remember the beer being on the cheaper side, always a plus– mind you, cheaper for the area. The food menu was creative, and thorough. I remember seeing foie gras on the menu, but I cannot remember if I ordered it or not– gee, so much for having a poor memory. Hell, I can’t even remember the entrée I had(I am glad I took pics, or did I?). It was decent, I remember that much. Now for dessert– I do remember that– that was my favorite part of the meal. It was a bourbon pecan tart. The pastry chef was a mess cook in the Marines, and I was for sure impressed with his execution. I do remember this, as it was probably one of the better tarts I have had. Oh yea, and the ice cream with it… I have been to cheaper places, but so far this place has been promising. The service was very friendly, and on point. The drinks were great too– I remember my bartender being a Marine as well, but dammit, I forgot his name… I liked the bathrooms a lot as well, reminded me of Restoration Hardware had a child with a W Hotel… It says somewhere this place closes at midnight, but I don’t think that is true, or else they adjust the time for the weekends– this place is too nice and spacious to be closed that early. I mean, we were there from 8ish-12ish, they were doing something right! I thought this place was going to be filled with pretentious assholes. And although some patrons had their moments, the friendly staff and overall laid back atmosphere makes this place a winner! Cannot wait to go back and see full drink menu, I really wanna give this place 5 stars!

WARNING!!! Nice place & friendly atmosphere– but do NOT park across the street! Even if it is just for a drink. We shop at the Kroger everyday because we live next door. If you park in Kroger & walk across the street, even just for 20 minutes at happy hour– they will BOOT your car. $ 50 to $ 75 to get it off.(even if you are planning on buying dinner at Kroger after cocktails). Nice restaurant, but do not plan on shopping & dinner or cocktails with the same stop!!! Let our mistake be your night out! $ 50-$ 75 free dinner & drinks by staying away from Kroger.

My friends and I went to Modern tonight for our monthly dinner. Oh my! It was lovely! The entire restaurant is tastefully presented in a muted understated contemporary palate. There are multiple levels of dining, multiple levels of tables, and a very large bar scene. Many options. The young greeter graciously offered to show me around and offer me a selection of many tables. I chose a banquet for four in the lower main level facing the front door. A good choice. The welcome was warm and splendid. Water and bread were prompt — bread was warm, but boring, which caused me to be a bit worried. The server knew the wine list well and made intelligent, knowledgeable comments when I asked for his thoughts. I ordered a bottle of pinot grigio from a small but broad wine list. Wine service was perfect. My friends arrived. We felt a bit rushed to order… But persevered through our wine and greetings. Then, I ordered the sea bass — stupendous. Another friend ordered the scallops appetizer as her main– lovely crusted with nice greens. Another ordered a salad and a Carpaccio — excellent presentation which she loved. The fourth friend ordered the butternut squash soup — beautifully presented and which she thought was wonderful. A second bottle of wine and finally — a chocolate pecan dessert which was excellent… warm, delicious, memorable… The service was attentive — maybe a bit much with the eager, young waiters who want to make sure you are happy and well-cared for. The manager(Mark) came by and asked how we were enjoying. One got the feeling they really cared and wanted to hear the truth. A bit pricey… but well worth it. My only negative critique would be… lightened up a bit on the service(am I actually saying that?) and give the guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy the beautiful room. This is an excellent and important addition to Buckhead dining — and now I really look forward to going back to this beautiful place with my husband for a romantic and relaxing dinner.
