Aw, geez! Another one bites the dust?! Well, this was one of the two sushi restaurants I would actually suggest to real sushi eaters! If I had time or inclination to make any effort re: my appearance, it’s an MF night. If I felt like wearing jeans and not straightening my hair– Hashiguchi! The great thing about this place is that total traditional feel of it. Sake ochazuke was my thing. And ika geso. And Onigiri. I would always order the uni – and the chef would give me a thumbs up or thumbs down, according to freshness. The miso ramen was to die for. It was a real Japanese restaurant and will be missed. Maybe this is one of those«Twitter deaths» and we’ll all find out it was just a hoax all along… ugh!

Finally tried this place, and just in time. They have signs up about how they’re closing down after 20 years due to the landlord. Place was small, and we sat at the sushi bar. It was a little pricey, but the food was excellent. 4 rolls and 2 small apps were $ 50. Not sure what else you could or would want to squeeze in that spot, but that’s not my decision.

CLOSED. — — - Okay if you plan to go there, please look for Jr. instead of Hashigushi… a small restaurant on the very right hand side when you get to Around Lenox Plaza from Peachtree. It looks authentic. I had chirashi(sashimi on rice). It comes with veggie salad and miso soup. Then had red bean ice cream. The sashimi was really fresh and I got a good variety so that I could start with white and end with red. Red bean ice cream was yummy too. Almost perfect except that our waitress was awful– she was totally absent minded. She was even not listening when taking our order(I tried 3+ times to get her attention while she was just beside me). Hope you are getting better, not losing your job, poor girl.

The name has changed to Sushi Jr. but the quality is every bit as good as it has been for years. It’s still filled in the evenings with Japanese natives and the staff still speaks Japanese, so it’s safe to say the food is pretty authentic and delicious. I’m still a fan and am glad to see that the hiccup of the original owner retiring didn’t mess up a good thing. I still highly recommend the sashimi, but really you can’t go wrong with anything you order here!

I recently re-visited this place when my family came to visit Atlanta. We ordered shokado bento(grilled mackarel + fried fish + sashimi), chirashi, nabeyaki soba, unadon(unagi donburi), and sushi junior(rolls + nigiri). All the dishes tasted fine, but their uni didn’t taste as fresh as I would’ve hoped. The convenient location(next to Lenox mall) is probably the main reason why I would consider coming back again. Their service was also very attentive and I really appreciated the quiet ambiance of this place.

Before all this… Make your reservation! You don’t wana wait for an hour do you? I ain’t here for regular Japanese food. All I heard from my Atl friends are their Uni(Sea Urchin) and Toro(Fatty Tuna). If you are lucky enough that they are available, order one on nigiri. You won’t regret it. I told you I ain’t here for regular stuff. Their Butter Corn Ramen is hands down awesome. It’s pricey tho… $ 12? You know how it tastes like now. Just get your own butter and corn at Publix and u can replicate it pretty easy(except the broth of course). Atypical food: 5 stars Typical food: 3 stars

Just went to this restaurant again for lunch on Friday. Food in the lunch set was just a ok, not that good. Fried white fish was so tiny that it took me 2 bites to eat all of it and it wasn’t fried well, it felt oily. Sashimi is so-so. This was a huge depart from very good ramen and katsudon I ate at dinner. I would say you shouldn’t order lunch set here.

Yes to Japanese food. This place is my Fav. of the all times for Sushi. It’s not the most fancy one but the food is the best. Star of the night: Rainbow Roll. Delicious mixture of rice, fish and avocados. The food is really well prepared, fresh and yummy! I totallty recommended.

If you like sushi in a friendly, «small town feel» environment then this is the place! I like the fact that it is quiet, and I don’t think I’ve ever had such a nice, knowledge, and helpful waitress at a sushi restaurant. So many times it seems as if the sushi chefs are the only ones who know what is what, not here! this was a light lunch with a buddy, so I just got the lunch sashimi special. Nice little assortment — tuna, mackerel, salmon, etc… the fish was all fresh, well prepared, and most importantly melted in your mouth as good fish should. Yummy!!! the ginger salad and miso soup were solid as well. After a couple more visits this place could definitely move to five stars. We’ll see!

Service: among the best food: among the best location: next to Lenox mall Price: reasonable It has the best Ramen in ATL. Other dishes such as Yakitori are also great. Its sushi are a little bit above average. Too bad it has been closed.

This place was such an utter disappointment. Came here with the husband in hopes of finding decent Japanese ramen, sushi, or just decent Japanese food in general. We were seated immediately and while the service was fine, the food was just sub-par. It wasn’t BAD, it just wasn’t what I would expect for a place that looks authentic, seems authentic, and definitely prices itself as an authentic place(this place is NOT cheap). We shared the eel and cucumber roll which was poorly rolled and the portion was extremely small. For the price, you can get a better looking roll at Sushi-Yuka. The plate it came on was pretty, but that’s about it. The miso soup and salad were okay, but my husband’s main dish looked so small! He got shrimp and scallops and it didn’t even look appetizing to me. I got the Tonkatsu Ramen, one of my favorite dishes of all time, and yet, while the soup wasn’t salty, and the noodles tasted homemade, it was just NOT Tonkatsu Ramen. There was something off about it. I can’t figure out what it is, but it just wasn’t what I expected. Also, Ramen was $ 10, Sushi was $ 7, and Scallop/Shrimp dish was $ 15. I know this location must cost a lot, but at least try to compensate with better tasting food. I’ll save my Japanese cravings for when I’m in Duluth.

I usually only read Unilocal reviews to decide what restaurants are worth trying out, and after choosing to dine here tonight based on Unilocal reviews I felt compelled to make an account and write my first review!!! This restaurant may have been good in the past, but they have changed owners and is now called«Sushi Jr.» The sashimi and rolls that my beau and I ordered were no question fresh, but the size portions of the sashimi platter that we ordered was SOOO small that I even brought it to the attention of our waitress. The 3 pieces of tuna that we got were literally each the size of a sugar cube!!! I was thinking… are you kidding me? We also ordered the potato croquettes which were forgettable fried mashed potato balls and the potstickers and grilled squid were light and decently flavored. Overall, this place is not worth the drive to Buckhead/Lenox area. Everything was mediocre at best.

I’ve been wanting to come here for a while. I was a little worried that we’d have to wait, but fortunately we didn’t. FOOD: We started with the Pacific roll and Dragon roll. Dragon was full of Amaebi Tempura and Avocado with Outside: Eel and Avocado. The Pacific roll was salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and avocado. Both were delicious! We had the salmon hamachi(since they were out of the yellow tail hamachi), which is just cooked salmon… kind of bland. The salmon onigiri is a massive amount of rice around a small dose of salmon eggs… not much flavor. The vegetable tempura was shrimp and vegetables crispy fried to perfection. All in all it was decent, but I’d stick with the sushi. Come early or you’ll be waiting for a table since it’s a small restaurant.

Hashiguchi Jr. is an authentic, no-frills Japanese restaurant located behind the Westin and next to Lenox Square in Buckhead. The restaurant can be found on the ground level of the Shops Around Lenox shopping center, right underneath Dantanna’s. It’s a quiet and cozy restaurant that has a small sushi bar, tables that are placed closely together, and some private Japanese-style rooms complete with tatami mats. Hashiguchi Jr. is comparable to Sushi Yoko and Umezono in that these businesses provide a more traditional Japanese experience unlike, for example, MF Buckhead. This is the sister restaurant of the recently-closed(April 2011) Hashiguchi on Windy Hill. I’ve only been to Hashiguchi Jr. for dinner. At dinner, they offer two different menus. One of the menus is handwritten and contains a majority their specials. Along with sushi, you can order a variety of standard Japanese izakaya-style food items including ramen and udon noodles, tonkatsu(fried pork cutlet), and tempura. There’s nothing too«fancy» or outlandish here, which is why I like this place. It’s just fresh sushi that’s made right. I like ordering the Jr. sushi combo, which includes 11 pieces of nigiri, one roll(8 pieces), and tomago(egg). The nigiri and roll are chef’s choice. Apart from shrimp or crab(I ask the chef not to include these since I’m allergic to them), the nigiri pieces in the combo are common and typically consist of unagi(eel), squid, albacore tuna, maguro tuna, salmon, hamachi(yellowtail), ikura(salmon roe/eggs), and spicy salmon. The roll is usually spicy tuna. The ginger they use here is the pale yellow variety. This dish is intended to be shared with others, but I usually order the whole plate for myself. While Hashiguchi Jr’s menu is not as expansive as say, Hayakawa’s or Shoya’s, I still find the sushi here to be delicious. The fish is usually fresh, though I did experience bad-tasting squid on a recent visit. I especially like the ikura nigiri. I’m not crazy about the«spicy» sushi(e.g. spicy tuna rolls, spicy salmon nigiri), but I’m not a fan of those types of sushi to begin with. Non-sushi-wise, I enjoy their tempura. It’s light and flaky. Each meal is typically served with a salad with flavorful ginger dressing and a small bowl of miso soup. Both are refreshing and hit the spot for me. Service is excellent. The servers are always on top of things. They’re all friendly as are the sushi chefs that I’ve encountered. This restaurant seems to get busy at night no matter what the day. Clientele includes everything: couples, Japanese businessmen, American otaku, college students, even elderly singles. There’s plenty of free parking outside the restaurant, though the spaces are small. If you’re looking for good sushi in Buckhead without any pretense, go to Hashiguchi Jr.

With respect to food, Hashiguchi, Jr. is better than most Japanese restaurants. The sashimi and sushi here is so fresh that the fish nearly melts in your mouth. So far, this is the first time I ever experienced sushi like this. I was pretty blown away. chirashi($ 20) — see photo that I posted. It’s basically raw fish over vinegar rice. 5 stars freshwater eel and avocado roll —($ 6) simple but amazing and succulent! Best eel I ever tasted! This is served warm. 5 stars sea eel and avocado roll($ 6) — not as succulent as the freshwater eel. The sea eel seems dryer and tougher than the freshwater eel. 4 stars. Pacific roll($ 11) — gorgeous roll but its flavors are more subtle. 4 stars Takoyaki($ 5) — There are large pieces of octopus inside the takoyaki, but the takoyaki balls fell apart easily when I used chopsticks instead of the toothpick that came with it. I thought the takoyaki was just average. 3 stars. The décor is getting old with duct tape on the booth seats, but the place is in Buckhead. You can reach Hashiguchi, Jr. through Lenox Mall’s roads. It’s not in Lenox Mall; it’s in the same plaza as American Apparel.

This place is like a hidden treasure. They have authentic Japanese food. The service is great. The sushi chef is kind of quiet, but I’m pretty sure if he spoke great English… he’d be joking right along with us. With this place not being so big, you kind of get like an intimate feeling here. They have a few rooms in the hallway for bigger parties. In the rooms for a larger party, the guests sit on the floor with pillows.

Like this place the first time I went and loved it the secon time. Maybe it was because I went on a Monday and the fish seemed. A great varety of choices and much better than that circus sushi they serve at Rusan’s. I call it my whole in the wall real japanese food place in Atlanta. Tempura great and lightly friend perfect. All nigiri sushi I had was top notch. I was a little concerned as I left and saw their cleanliness rating on the window by the exit. It was 80 folks. I heard you shouldnt dine at restaurants that are uner 87. I really wanted the gory details. Instead I’ll just grin and bear it and take my chances.

I love Hashiguchi Jr. Every time I come, and tonight’s no exception, I order my two favorite sushi — the Pacific roll(salmon, tuna, yellowtail, avocado) & the salmon. And every time, consistently, hours later, I still dream of the sushi melting in my mouth … that’s how I measure a good sushi experience. We walked in around 8 and the place was PACKED, incl. every single seat at the sushi bar. But we were lucky enough to get the last table for two. In previous visits, I found the sushi to come out pretty slow — but even with the packed house, our food came out in good time. Service is always great, and I love how everything — service, food, menus, space — just feels so authentic here.
