We decided on Marcel’s for my mothers birthday dinner. I must say the experience was grand from the entrance, where the host greeted us by name and seated us immediately. Katie was our delightful waitress for the evening and I will say I was impressed with her knowledge of the menu, down to the wine listings, and just how helpful she was during our dinning experience. She gave good suggestions and made sure we were comfortable during dinner. We ordered the Porterhouse Steak for three. Unfortunately, it was not the best steak I have ever had however, it did get the job done. The meat towards the bone was a bit more charred than what I would have liked for it to be BUT it was still tasty. The shrimp dish could have served a bit more being that it is a à la carte restaurant with high expectations. We ordered a few more dishes which were great as well. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant indeed. The staff was more than accommodating and extremely professional. I will definitely be returning here.

The ambience, service, menu and little details are what make this a 5 star restaurant. Ford Fry really outdid himself when they designed the space. I truly felt as if I were back in NY at a steakhouse. The waiters were dressed to the nines and are well trained on the menu. I had the filet madame and shared the asparagus and a potato side. The steak was to be prepared medium, and while it was close to that, it was probably on the grill for about 2 minutes too long. Not a big deal, as it was still flavorful. The drink list and bourbon selection are outstanding. If you’re not sure what to get, ask your server. They definitely know their stuff. I’m sure I’ll be back.

Overall, I had a fantastic experience with dinner at Marcel and would love to go back for their late night menu, or when it’s time for another splurge dinner. The Atmosphere: I truly felt like I was somewhere else! A different city. A different country. It was dark, cozy, with beautiful lighting and a bustling atmosphere. Obviously this restaurant is upscale, but it feels very comfortable. Leather rollback benches, dark walls, fun golden wallpaper, taxidermy, mechanical/metallic light fixtures. I saw people in suits and dresses, some in sweaters and jeans, and even some people in workout clothes. Everyone seemed happy and welcomed! It was a full night and it was very loud. But one of my favorite atmospheres of any bar or restaurant I’ve ever been to. The Service: You get a full team! Service was great, friendly, informative and attentive without being TOO on top of you. There was also a slightly more conversational vibe with the servers here, which I liked. The Food: SOGOOD. Highlights for me were the lobster soup appetizer(with a puff pastry on top) and the bone-in filet. Their house cocktails are great! All the sides I tried were very good, very rich, and were huge. I feel like their sides could feed four. My boyfriend and I ordered two — and we felt it was too much food. The only thing I was slightly disappointed in was the lamb. I found it to be so fatty that I struggled to eat it. It tasted good, but not fantastic. Next Time: Next time we come our plan of action will be 2 – 3 appetizers, two entrees and one dessert. Just skip the sides. We were beyond stuffed when we left(and I had a stomach ache; I think because I ate a lot more fat that I’m used to) so skipping the sides seems like the best bet for us. I’m excited to come back to try more things from the menu, as well as dine late night for cocktails and a burger.

My husband and I are huge steakhouse fans. So every time we can come up with a reason to spend a little too much money on a steak dinner we jump at the opportunity. Our absolute favorite Atlanta steakhouse is Bones. We actually went there as a Christmas present to each other. Yesterday was my husband’s 32nd birthday so we figured we would try a new place. Marcel fit the bill. We had only heard great things about it. We knew that it was a pretty high priced, even compared to other high end steakhouses, but we had both read the interview with the owner and he seemed to make the claim that he was serving a different class of prime steak than could be otherwise found around Atlanta. Ballsy? Yes. Intriguing? Definitely. We arrived at about 8:45 for our 9pm reservation. The place really is beautiful. It has that intentionally rustic, but modern look. The host staff promptly notified us that our table might be ready 5 – 10 minutes after 9pm because of a dinner party that was having after dinner drinks. They offered to seat us immediately at a table for 5 with an added end chair(we were a party of 6). We told them we were happy to wait. So the main host cracked open a bottle of champagne on the house. Once we were seated we were immediately greeted by our two servers, Jermaine and James, who were incredibly attentive throughout our entire meal. The focaccia bread came out within about 5 minutes and was delicious. It was served with a prosciutto and olive plate, for those of you who might be into that sort of thing. For appetizers, I had the Marcel salad, while my husband had the lobster chowder puff pastry. Another couple at our table ordered the steak tartare. I have to admit that I have to give the edge to the Marcel salad over my previous favorite, the Bone’s salad. It just has a heartier feel and the bacon vinaigrette is absolutely delicious. My husband seemed to enjoy the lobster chowder, but definitely prefers the lobster bisque at Bones. The couple who ordered the steak tartare also enjoyed their appetizer, but told us that it was definitely not the best steak tartare they had eaten in Atlanta. For the main courses, the boys all ordered the dry-aged bone-in rib-eye medium-rare. Two of the girls ordered the 8-ounce fillet. I decided to go rogue and order the L’entrecôte with fries. Here is where the train started to come off the tracks. 2 of the rib-eyes came out cooked to somewhere between medium and medium-well. Fortunately, these were immediately taken back and brand new steaks were cooked. Unfortunately however, the replacements, although now perfectly cooked, were very under seasoned, charred, and lacking the kind of robust flavor you’d expect to come from a dry-aged rib-eye. I mean Marcel charged $ 68 dollars for this steak. At that price, these kind of shortcomings are just unacceptable. The ladies both loved their fillets and my steak was the hit of the night. It came out with a verde sauce that I could just as easily drink straight up as smother all over my food. The fries were by far, the best side dish we ordered. Perfectly seasoned and even more incredible when dipped in the verde sauce accompanying my steak. The other two side items we ordered were the mashed potatoes and the creamed corn. Both of these were pretty good, but absolutely nothing special. The servers were gracious enough however, to bring out brand new sides for the table when the two new rib-eye steaks came out. We didn’t order dessert because I had already picked up an Oreo cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory(yum), but because it was my husband’s birthday, we were treated to a chocolate crème brûlée. It was pretty tasty, but nothing to write home about. All in all, we had a great time at Marcel. Unfortunately, the food, while good, just doesn’t quite match up with the very steep price. Here are our current Atlanta steakhouse rankings: 1st place = Bones Tied for 2nd = Hal’s and Fleming’s Tied for 3rd = Chops and Marcel. Next stop, Kevin Rathbun Steak!

My new favorite restaurant! So delish & the atmosphere is perfection. Lobster tortellini pasta to die for as was the cut of beef. This place is so fun & different — even our LA crew was impressed!

I really like this spot. It gives Hal’s, Rathbun Steak, and Bone’s a run for their money. Make sure you go on a night you feel like«ballin like march madness». I don’t think it would efficient to turn down after good drinks and dinner here. I’d give them 5 stars if they accepted bitcoin. This could tie with The Optimist as the best Ford Fry concept, time will tell. In the steak category, I’ve had the bone-in filet and the porterhouse for dinner on separate occasions. For lunch I’ve had the L’Entrecôte with verde/frites. My ranking would be: 1. Bone-In Filet 2a. Porterhouse for 2 2b. L’Entrecôte I was a little underwhelmed by the porterhouse but I ended up eating around 70 percent of it since my SO isn’t huge on steak. She had the Lobster tortellini which was super fire. In the future, I’m going to go with the bone-in filet which was Hal’s level good and make sure to get the Lobster Tortellini as an appetizer. Out of all the sides I tried, I’d recommend the Pommes Aligot and Spinach Gnudi. In terms of appetizers, the Lobster Bisque and Escargots were very well crafted and neither too light or too heavy. Haven’t tried the Baked Alaska yet but it looked good as they paraded around the restaurant with it during dinner hours. The fried bologna I had for lunch was good but nothing that will bring me back, I would much rather get a L’Entrecôte for lunch. Maybe I’ll try the bologna or burger off the late night menu.

Okay, so I feel like I am always giving Ford Fry Restaurants a 5 star review, but hey they deserve it! I had the best experience here and cannot wait to go back again. I had a girls night here with two of my closet friends and we were all MORE than satisfied with the food, atmosphere, and staff. Oh and they had an amazing wine selection. We choose a red from Italy and it was sooooo yummy. I had the chopped salad(such a wide variety of flavors), filet(it cut like butter), pommes frities(couldn’t get enough), and asparagus(perfectly seasoned). The portions are large, so we split the salad and the sides. My friends also had the oysters, which they claimed were delicious… I however did not even think of trying one of them. :-) I loved everything I ate, including the chocolate pot de crème for dessert, which I couldn’t get enough of. My friends had the Fried Alaska which looked amazing, but I could not have it given it wasn’t gluten free — I know poor me. The food overall was fabulous and although I felt like I needed someone to roll me out of there — I got home wanting more. The service was spectacular and I appreciated how concerned they were for not only my gluten allergy, but my tomato allergy as well. Given I have legit food allergies, this is a must for me to return to a restaurant. I also loved the vibe of the restaurant too. It has an old worldly feel to it and old photographs cover the wall. I felt like the restaurant was telling a story. The whole experience from the moment we walked in, until the moment we left was great. If you are looking for a great date experience, or just a night out with the girls, or guys, this is a great choice. I would definitely recommend it.

My husband and I celebrated our Wedding Anniversary on New Year’s Eve at Marcel. The restaurant is very cozy and romantic for an intimate dinner for 2 but we did see a lot of groups dine out that night. In my mind I kept thinking how much money these people must have spent because this place is not cheap okay. Moving on to the review… The service at Marcel is A+ all the way from the hostess stand until your meal comes out. Everyone who waited on us were awesome. The meal started with the complimentary bread(delish) but do not ask for more than what they give you because the next order is on you(smile) so good though. My husband and I decided on the bone in Porterhouse steak for 2 along with the Marcel Salad and Mash Potatoes and Corn Soufflé. Everything was very good. Would I dine at Marcel’s again? YES!

Went to dinner here with good friends. The waiter was excellent and gave us very good advice on the dishes. The menu is more of less fixed with seasonal adjustments. This is a hardcore steak place, but has quite a few other things on the menu. We had bread and a miniature charcuterie plate to get the party started. We had a variety of cesar and other salads as starters. The salads are significant. For the main course we had small and medium steaks, and sole. We had sides of mashed potatoes and spinach. Everything was very well prepared. We had pear and baked Alaska for dessert. The food is VERY good. The ambience is cosy with limited noise. Overall a great place.

So we are in search of a place for beef Wellington, and we found out that Marcel offers it, so we were super excited to try it. Ambiance: the actual restaurant is nicer than the pics. Although the bar area could get loud, the dining area looks classy Food: first, let me just say that the beef Wellington was a disappointment. I was hoping for real pâté, but instead, they used«mushroom pâté». It’s wayyyy too salty, and the puff pastry wasn’t cooked to perfection either. Not worth the $ 110 price tag. The appetizer foie gras with fig, and baked Alaska were the star of the meal. They gave you a really generous portion of the foie gras. The fig compliments the fattiness of the goose liver. I would definitely go back for those two items some time.

This place is sexy, classic, and familiar. Stepping into the former home of Abattoir makes you feel like you’ve entered a member’s only restaurant in New York during the 1940s or 1950s. Marcel is designed to make you feel adult, sexy, and well todo in an unpretentious way. The attention to detail here is beyond compare and fits the theme of the restaurant right down to the Aqua Net, Listerine, and Mary Janes in the ladies room. The highlights of Marcel don’t stop with the décor. The food made an impression as well. Although my Fish du Jour was light on the serving of artichokes, the grilled lemon and red snapper was simple yet nicely executed. However, dessert is where Marcel stands out in terms of food. I declared my love for the unseen chef who prepared my Pear Tarte Tatin. It was rich, decadent, and worth every calorie. Hats off to Chef Fry and Chef Horn.

Ooooh I wanted this to be a 5 star and for the most part, it’s ALMOST there. For a really nice restaurant, I didn’t feel like it was snooty nor uppity. The clientele seems to be a mix of young and old professionals and I really like the ambiance of the place. LOCATION it’s in the Westside Provisions complex, but can be hard to find. If you park in front of Star Provisions, you’ll walk through the passageway, cross the bridge, go all the way to the other side and it’s on the second floor, across from Yeah Burger. The logo is an M, and there’s not really any other sign to tell you it’s there. FOCCACIABREAD /OLIVES /SALAMI The foccacia bread is delicious. It’s puffy and full of flavor with the parsley butter that its cooked in. However, it can get pretty oily/buttery so i wish it was just a tad bit less greasy. The olives are delicious along with the peppers that come with it. The salami is also delicious, but all the people at my table didn’t eat pork, so the salami wasn’t touched much. I had some and thought it was very good and had most of the dish. SHRIMPSALAD /HEIRLOOM The greens in this salad are so good and so is the dressing. The shrimp, however, was not good and subpar. Actually, it just was not good. I served everyone and when we took a bite of the shrimp, everyone simultaneously said the shrimp was either old or fishy, or just not good. I should have sent this dish back but my table told me to let it go as the dish was already served and only the shrimp was bad. STEAKTARTARE This is an appetizer dish but I had it as my main dish and then ordered sides to go with it. The steak tartare is good, but not outstanding. I could add more spices to pack more flavor, but the meat itself was very good. I enjoyed this dish a lot, but I would also ask for bread or crackers to pair with it next time. The dish comes with potatoes, but i did not think that it paired with the tartare well. It didn’t fit with the dish and it should have more crispy crackers to balance out the tartare and serve as a scoop! FILETMADAME The meat was incredibly tender and everyone at my table was pleased with their cut. Although some ordered it more well than I would ever like it to be, I still thought the meat was delicious when I tasted their dishes. CREAMEDCORNGRATIN One of the best sides here. It’s a must get, and a great one to share with the table. The corn is roasted and crispy and the top covered in cheese is soooo yummy. ASPARAGUS Flavored and roasted to perfection. Must get it if you get a steak. Bam. FRITES Inhaled so fast I didn’t even get a taste so it was perfection. They were also generous with the portions and comes with a dip. COCKTAILS LEBOMBARDIER is so good. Gin cocktail and has some orange fizz to it. LAVIEENROSE has whiskey and for the ones who enjoys whiskey would love this. I can’t.

My wife and I disagree about the best steak we’ve had in Atlanta. I still can’t forget that lovely dry-aged steak at Kevin Rathbun Steak, and she thinks the winner is the Porterhouse for 2 her at Marcel. Either way both steaks were amazing. At Marcel, you’re treated to very high-end service with a Captain running the show and numerous other servers bringing food, cocktails, or undertaking other service tasks. It’s the finest and most formal service restaurant I’ve been to in Atlanta. Since it was my wife’s birthday we blew it out with a great steak, many sides, and a bunch of cocktails which were all excellent, and served from a silver tray. The steak with perfectly medium rare, had a fantastic crispy char with amazing flavor. I can’t say anything more about the steak for two we had, just awesome. The foie gras was creamy and served with toast. You don’t see this too often on many menus, so get it here if you’re into it. We also had spinach gnudi(spinach cheese balls) that were unexpectedly delicious. We finished the meal off with traditional baked alaska. The tableside fire-show was excellent and the flavor of the dessert was excellent. Definitely one of the best meals I’ve had in Atlanta. Prepare to pay for it. Our meal total was a little bit over $ 300 with tax and tip.

I had a few days of amazing food last week as I got to try this not only for drinks, but for lunch the day following my birthday. First off, I LOVE the ambiance here. I feel very much at home with the french-inspired décor and music. They are located in the Westside Provisions District, on the second floor above where Ormsby’s is. Across the street from Yeah! Burger. You can park in the deck behind Yeah! or in the surface lot over by Star and walk over. Lucky for me, I had two separate experiences, one seated at the bar on a busy Thursday evening, and another for Friday lunch. Totally different atmospheres, but both lovely. The bar is a u-shape with comfy high chairs and a wood bar. We had great service even though it was packed and the wine list is really nice. They have plenty of options. Mixed cocktails looked rather intriguing also, but I haven’t tried them. Beer list looked fairly standard. We had lunch on the patio, although it was actually quieter inside the restaurant with the trains and delivery trucks. The weather was beautiful though, so couldn’t have asked for better. We had the frites canard, Marcel’s stack, and shaved beef and Gruyère. The stack came with thin slices of fried potato, and the shaved beef with a small salad. Everything was amazing. I’m honestly not even sure what my favorite was. I usually hate gravy on my fries but the frites canard were perfection. Both sandwiches were amazing. I would highly recommend everything! Basically, can’t wait to go back!

This is one of the finest steakhouse in Atlanta. Just to be clear, I did not order any steaks my first visit here. The steak prices range from $ 26-$ 165. I was not in the mood for steaks but the rest of the menu was very interesting. The appetizer menu was tempting. Thats what made me not order steak that night. I was intrigued by the lobster chowder. There was puff pastry baked around the chowder bowl. The lobster chowder was rich and hearty. It was fantastic. The escargot should not be overlooked. Unlike most restaurants, Marcel serves their escargot in the shell. This part reminded me of Pretty Woman when Julia Roberts clamped on the escargot and it popped. I love eating escargot this way. There’s a authenticity to it. The break that comes with the escargot was so yummy when dipped into the garlic butter sauce. I also had the Marcel salad. This was a fabulous salad, had all the greens I love, blue cheese, bacon and a well balanced amount of dressing. Superb. The meal was superb. The service was exquisite.

I don’t know where to begin… Located in the bustling area off Howell Mill. Décor — 5 Stars — Unique, romantic, quirky, elegant, and surprisingly still welcoming & relaxed. Food — 5 Stars ++ — The bread they bring isn’t just bread, it’s heavenly. The steaks are perfection!!! Cooked perfectly and the quality of the meat is superb. Seafood is fresh & presented better than some of the top seafood restaurants. The house salad is extremely fresh and unique. So good. The wine list is great. Cocktails are inventive, but you can still order a basic martini and it is perfect. This is my new favorite steak restaurant in Atlanta! Another win for Chef Fry.

O-M-G stands for«Oh Marcel Goodness». This place is awesome. Although the taxidermy gave me a bit of the creeps when I first walked in(just a fox and a bird of some sort), I was immediately impressed by the ambiance of Marcel. I’m not sure if it was due to my Saturday night visit. But the restaurant gave off such a dark, smooth, sexy vibe as soon as I stepped through the door… and I was loving it.(Looking at Jang C.‘s pic, the extra darkness was due to the night sky, but I still love the ambiance) I knew if the food tasted as good as this place looked, I’d be a fan. Thankfully, our meal was great. I wish I’d asked what the bread and butter that was served consisted of. But it was inhaled in an instant… my bad. There were herbs and cheese on the bread, and herbs in the butter. I can only guess it was made out of love and Beyonce’s tears of joy or something else equally magical. The butter was probably whipped with a blade from the fan that Bey uses to make her hair blow during her performances. The lobster chowder was also good. But thinking back on it now, I wish I didn’t order it – only because I didn’t leave room for dessert and I really wanted something sweet at the end of this meal. I decided to go for the Filet Madame with asparagus. The filet was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. The asparagus was perfect. I didn’t notice until I was almost finished that there hadn’t been any salt or pepper on the table. I didn’t need it. Service was impeccable(just realized I’m the 5th person to use that word in a review for Marcel, but if the shoe fits…). There were several members of the wait staff that stopped to check on things, without being annoying. Everyone was very friendly. My server even suggested a cocktail for me to try(the Casa Blanca), and offered to replace it if I didn’t enjoy it. I did, so there was no need to return it. Oh, yes – cocktails. I had the La Vie En Rose first, and it was everything. The whole experience here was everything. This restaurant named after a French boxer is a TKO.

I came for lunch. This place looks like a very fancy restaurant. I felt like I had to wear my suit. But instead, I just wore my short sleeved shirt and jeans. Marcel seems to be named after Marcel Cerdan, the French Boxer. I’m sure 99% of the people who go there have no idea who Marcel Cerdan is. But if you’re confused with all the boxing memorabilia all around the restaurant, it’s probably because of this. Since it’s named after a French Boxer, it’s like a French Restaurant – a French Steakhouse that is. They have most of their menu items in French. Honestly, I don’t know why they do this without any descriptions or English translations. I had no idea what half of the menu was. For lunch, I tried their stack and their bacon cheeseburger. The stack is fried Bologna sandwich. The bacon cheeseburger was their bacon cheeseburger. They both came with pomme frites. Their Pomme Frites looked interesting. It was flat as a pancake and sprinked with some herbs. I liked it. It was fried well. It wasn’t a bad for French Fries. Their burger was okay. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t amazing. I’m not a fan of bacon cheeseburgers. It’s strange, I like bacon and I like cheeseburgers. But I’m not a fan of the combination. I think next time, I’ll ask them to forget the bacon. For the patty, they used chuck, brisket, and whatever else trimmings they have in the back. They cook it medium well with American cheese. The waiter said they smash it. I hope they don’t smash out the juices. It felt juicy enough though. It comes with a toasted bun skewered with some pickles. Just put those pickels inside and enjoy. Like I said, it was okay. I would get something else on the menu since you can get this quality burger anywhere. I loved their Stack. The bun was toasted and seemed like the same bun used with the burger. In fact, it looked the same. The fried Bologna had great flavor. The cheese made it nice and tasty. It was a great sandwich. For lunch, I highly recommend this sandwich. Marcel feels like an old school, steakhouse. It made me feel I was in the set of Mad Men. So get your mistress, some alcohol, and enjoy some steak.
