Oh no, this place closed! I used to go to Slice all of the time when I partied in downtown Atlanta. It was a fun hangout spot. I’ll miss this location.

**CLOSED** The Sign on the papered-up windows say they will reopen soon… but that sign has been on there for the past 3 months. Too bad, too as it was just about to turn to Summer when they shut it down… but I can understand why. You may be glad they did, too! The service here was the worst! Kara G. described an all-to-familiar scenario to the«T». My experience(s) were just as bad. Our last visit, while sitting at the bar, with only 5 other people in there on a Tuesday night @ 8pm, took about 10 minutes just to have the bartender acknowledge us.(Again, this is almost exactly how every visit started) We were asked if we wanted food, but had not been given menus. We said we would start with a few beers while we looked at a menu. It took another 10 minutes to reach into the cooler that was 5 feet away and give those 2 beers to us. After waiting 10 more minutes, we were asked by the bartender what we wanted. We ordered 2 slices, 1 cheese, 1 peperoni. It took 15 minutes for the slices, but they sat there on the counter for another 7 – 8 minutes while we waited for the bartender to stop texting and look up to see they were ready… even though the kitchen staff yelled out«ORDERUP!». The bartender brought us the slices, and disregarded the crushed empty beer cans left on the bar in front of us. He didn’t bother to ask if we wanted another beer, or anything else. He just set the pizza down in front of us and walked away to the end of the bar, turned his back, then started texting again. We had to flag down a waitress to ask her for another beer, but she had to get it from the bartender; who looked pissed that he had to do his job. The sad thing about SLICE was never the pizza;(thin and crispy with a good tomato sauce), the salads;(great honey-mustard, w/cold and fresh lettuce with plenty of stuff in the chefs salad), the people(mostly after-work dressed residents of the neighborhood), the atmosphere(plasma TVs, concrete floors and high ceilings with low-lighting), nor the other menu items(no wings). The music(hip-hop, R&B, old school jams) and sports shown on the TV’s, in addition to the food items we tried were pretty good. But… when the service is just absolutely, for lack of a better description, ABSOLUTELYSHITTY!, you tend to not want to keep feeling regret for spending your money in this place. We live right down the street in Castleberry’s loft district, and this was 5 minutes walking distance from our front door, which means we probably would have gone many more times. Now that it’s closed, we have been more than happy to drive to the next independent pizza company. We feel they all appreciate their customers, and we have no regrets each time we drive past the dark and shuttered SLICE on our way home. They deserve to be CLOSED!

Let me start by saying that Slice has good pizza. It is not great in fact I prefer Oz or Fellini’s but Slice is good. My issue with Slice is the service; the poor, horrible, service. I have had terrible service at Slice on four separate occasions and at this point I just can’t return. The pizza isn’t worth it. Slice is about two miles from where I work and they are open for lunch so in the past I have attempted to go to Slice for lunch. Bad idea. They are SLOW. I get that making pizza takes time, but when you are a pizza joint near a college campus and you’re open for lunch some things just need to already be prepared like pepperoni pizza and cheese pizza, just have it ready. So the first time I went to Slice for lunch this year was on a date with a Seventh Day Adventist. Really nice guy but I love cleavage and short skirts so you understand why it didn’t work out, but I digress. They were so slow I had to leave him at the table to pay for the meal so I could get back to work. Totally rude, but gees it took forever. It should not take more than an hour from start to finish at Slice for two pieces of pizza and two garden salads. The next time I went with my coworkers, same issue, SLOW. This time the food wasn’t slow coming out but it took forever for the wait staff to get us our checks. The next time I went to get a carry out order for my office. Four people, four slices of pizza, I called it in and went to pickup. We had two slices of pepperoni and two slices of cheese. Simple. Why they mess the whole thing up and folks who don’t eat pork had pepperoni, folks who don’t eat beef had beef, it was just a mess and I had to go back and sort it out. Well I was mad and Slice management really wasn’t apologetic. I’m like if you mess up like this make it right and apologize don’t make excuses. Okay so my last trip to Slice and I do mean my LAST trip to Slice(you think I would have learned not to go here at lunch at this point, but I said hey what the heck.) So, I am a doctoral student and was taking my comprehensive exams. Yep they tested us on everything we ever learned in order to decide if we were worthy to move on to dissertation stage. So they gave us a one hour break between exams for lunch and me and a couple of my classmates decided to head to Slice to grab something. I let my classmates know ahead of time not to order anything complicated stick with cheese and pepperoni and we should have plenty of time. Boy was I wrong. We got to Slice at 12:10PM. Waitress comes over to give us menus and takes the drink order. Three waters. Simple. I head to the ladies’ room which was disgusting by the way. When I get back I figure we would have drinks and she would have started taking our orders. Nope. In fact she didn’t come back till around 12:20PM. We let her know that we are in a hurry and can we(it was a question) get our food by 12:45PM. The waitress was like yea sure thing. We place our orders. Slice of cheese pizza, two pieces of pepperoni and two side salads. Simple enough. Still no drinks by the way. She comes back at 12:30PM and says they are out of salad and like Randy Watson on Coming to America drops the mic and walks off stage like what, say something. Meanwhile the cook is talking to another customer and then goes running down the street randomly. Cook returns, still no drinks. 12:40PM the cheese pizza comes out. We are like what’s up are we gonna get to eat. Waitress says hold on. Goes away and comes back at 12:45PM and says the cook messed up the pepperoni so no I guess you won’t get to eat. So basically I have to go back and finish taking the rest of this six hour test with no lunch. This test that will determine if I will become a doctor or not. This test that I have been waiting to take for the past three years. This test that over $ 40,000 worth of private school tuition has prepared me to take and I’m STARVING. I spoke to the manager who really seemed to careless. I just don’t get it. Just don’t be open for lunch, just open for dinner and do your whole late night club thing and keep it moving. The fact that I was in an eating establishment for nearly an hour and my drink never even came out to me is unforgivable. I will NEVER go back to Slice again. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. I hope the manager, the owner and everyone in the universe reads this and decides not to go to Slice as well. Horrible service.

The food is pretty good. i get my usual ham and pineapple. A slice feels me up. The service kinda sucks later on the day esp whenever the dj is there. I guess it turns into a little club of sorts. Way too much going on if you actually come here just to eat. It is def a neighbprhood hotspot. It gets pretty crowded. If you only want to eat and have no intentions on being apart of the atl social scene please come here during the day. Its a great place to go if you have nothing else to do and there is no cover charge so i gues thats why it draws crowds, and oh yeah the dj actually plays good music.

Cool, young atmosphere, DJ on the weekends, with urban trendsetters as far as the eye can see. At night, people come for the ambiance and mingling, and, after a few drinks, coat their stomachs with the pizza. Weekdays, its a little more quiet, obviously. Not your typical Food Network eatery, by no means, but the pizza’s good– thin, NY-style slices on the menu and can be ordered up to a whole pie. The prices are cheap, and, if you can stand all the people, its a good place to hang out at night. As with pretty much everywhere in Castleberry, the parking’s the pits… nonexistent. There’s a couch seating area, and about 5 tables total, so, don’t come here with the typical restaurant in mind, because you may be disappointed. Not good for large groups, families, or, people who like a squeaky-clean eating environment. Average to poor service, but really, are you there for the excellent wait staff? I didn’t think so.

Wow, not at all what I expected, as I expected a typical pizza place. Maybe it was because I came here around 11 on a Wednesday night, but I don’t think anyone was ordering pizza. They had an awesome DJ set up right at the entrance and it was absolutely packed. I felt totally out of place in my cords and cardigan: these people were dressed to impress whereas I thought I was going to a pizza joint to check out a DJ who happened to spin there. I was luckily able to find my friend pretty quickly and a girl was kind enough to give up her space at the bar so I could order: that never happens. It took a while to get the bartender’s attention but eventually I ended up with two pretty crappy and not well-priced drinks. The well gin was vile and my friend’s Jack and Coke was undrinkable, even after he asked for a replacement. And at $ 7 each for a tiny glass, it didn’t encourage me to order another round. Parking was extremely difficult as there are 3 or 4 places right next door to one another that were packed and there’s no dedicated lot in the area. The DJ was great and the vibe was very cool, although the big pizza ovens in the back weirdly reminded you that yes, you are drinking in a pizza parlor. Still, I’m glad they’ve managed to bring in a great nightlife crowd during the week: that’s a serious feat in this town.

Black Hollywood, overrated, pizza tastes like cardboard, decent drink prices, not enough chairs at the bar, unfortunate moist environment, digged the old school ATL hip hop(not the sissy music in 2010 on radio air waves), cozy atmosphere(just needs more space). Anyone who stated that their pizza was great in previous reviews or reviews after mine need to: a) get their head examine b) take a trip up north for real pizzas c) follow my reviews d) do all above as a safety measure Go there for food? H-Naw! Go there to relax? No, no, No(like Ray-J’s momz) Customer Service? Average, but its blk folk, what u expect!!! Go there to prowl on something bougie with insecurities? You bet’cha Go there scene to be scene? Come onnnnnnnnnn Down — bob barker voice Overall Grade: C-, D+

Decent Pizza, nice space in Castleberry Hill. Service can be curiously slow at times but the food doesn’t disappoint. They have a good lunch special if your in the mood for pizza and salad, but you have to eat it in the restaurant. This place stays busy on the weekends, but is more comfortable in the week. Get some, it’s a good one to keep in the Rolodex if you still have one of those!

The funny thing is that I have been to Slice over 10 times. Hung out, drank, had fun, listened to the DJ… and I have never eaten the pizza. Never even thought about trying it. This place may just be too damn cool to even serve food. Every night I have ever been there is always a live dj spinning some of the hottest ish. Very eclectic/neo soulish/hip hopish vibe. I absolutely love it. This is a great place to throwback a few brews and just chill. The last time I went, I was with my god brother, and that night some beer company was having a «free giveaway» promotion and just handing out bottles. The worst and last thing that you ever want to tell 2 fellas like us. 6 – 8 beers later, we were SUPERNICE. Great night. Great scenery. Cant really speak of the«greatness of the food» yet… i’ll put that on my to do list. Or maybe not.

Slice falls into the trendy pizza bar category. Good sound system. We had to walk a few blocks to get in. It seems strange to me to have a full bar dominating the joint but only bottled beer available. I was happy that they brought the pie steaming hot to our table. But they use some kind of funky cheese combination that looks like cottage cheese. It stretched well though and had a passable flavor. The crust had a nice flavor that was almost buttery. It folded well but had a distinct droop at the point. Generally above average crust. The sauce was just competent and the sausage was crumbled unevenly along the surface of the pie. The strength here was the spice in the meat and the freshness of the mushrooms. This pie would have been fine in a local pizzeria but not really a stand out in the gourmet pizza market. And give me some drought beer for Christ sakes!

I tried out Slice for the first time when Castleberry Hills started revitalizing. The area was very artsy and funky, and this original Slice location fits right in perfectly. Many of the toppings are your standard fare, but everything is very good and freshly made to order. The crusts are thin, which is perfect for me as that is what I prefer. The best pizza, though, is the apricot jam, turkey slice, cream cheese pizza. That’s right — it’s like a breakfast pie of awesome. :) It’s a very unique pizza that I’ve not seen repeated elsewhere and really worth a try! Parking is whatever you can find on the street and it can be extremely loud inside. Not all of the food is innovative, either. For these reasons, I give this place 4-stars. However, if you’re headed to Philips Arena for a concert, grab some dinner here first — you’ll love it!

Slice Slice Slice what can I say… I love this place. The Atmosphere is awesome and fellas its always filled with beautiful women. The pizza is pretty good too… nothing to special but definitely worth a shot. There is a full bar which makes it a perfect happy hour spot. As a DJ I love the fact that they play music. They play a nice selection of Hip hop and R&B from the 90’s up to now which keeps it interesting. The only thing I would change if at all possible is the amount of people that fill the restaurant at once. I know that sounds really selfish but it is really hard to get my babe to join me for a slice(she cant handle to many people)… Although the close quarters and loud music does make you and your date get really close… sound like I need to rethink my strategy in getting babe to join me!!! Enjoy and Indulge

In a nut shell… To crowded for people never eating any pizza. It has become a place for people to just be seen and get seen. Which ultimately doesn’t make for a good time. Service is slow. Food is ok. The pizza could be a lot better. No matter what time of day you go, its semi– packed or packed. And if you could imagine I’m usually there just to pick-up food and it’s like that. Also, its wayyyyy to loud to sit and converse with friends. OMG, it still gets business so I guess the«so-called» superstars find something appealing to the joint. It has become a place for the fake and phony! Unilocal Disclaimer– I put a lot of heart into my reviews/word of mouth recommendations and being a person from Atlanta, I take pride in Atlanta establishments and this one has fallen into the lost hope of a mainstream scene, couldn’t we have just left it a good pizza joint?*&. Peace~

As you may gather from reading some of my previous reviews, I make Clark Howard look like Daddy Warbucks when it comes to prying open my wallet. I am a cheapskate and not afraid to admit it so when I walked out of Slice after paying about $ 7 for one slice with 3 toppings and a sweet tea I was a bit miffed. The slice was certainly not the biggest I’ve ever received and the service was only adequate. It was not friendly or all that attentive by any measure. The pizza itself was decent but not the best in town by any means. I’d say it’s definately pushing it to pay $ 7 for one slice and a soft drink when the food is lackluster and the service is indifferent.

Slice is like Hip Hop… it has become a caricature of itself. MTV2 on both screens, 80% full house at 4 in the afternoon and one server, everyone dressed in the latest(i.e., the guys dressed like Chris Brown and the ladies dressed about the same), hip pop screaming through the system, and a few early 20-somethings acting like they are having a business meeting over the blaring music and boisterous conversations. I ain’t mad at ‘em, the business seems to be doing well and most people that attend seem to have a good time. However, I remember when they first opened and catered to a different crowd. It seems that now they have excepted the hip pop crowd(and their money) and the ownership seems willing to do what ever necessary to create an air of hip and cool, even if it ain’t really so… just like bad Hip Hop(aka ‘hip pop’). BTW — I don’t eat cheese, but people tell me the pizza is aight, a little on the greasy side, but aight.

I’m surprised to see such mediocre reviews. I’m from NJ, «Land of Infinite Italians», so I KNOW pizza! I am very particular about what a pizza should be and I know quality within the first bite. The one unfortunate thing about this place, is that it takes over :20 mins to get that first bite. Granted, I tend to go during their most busy day/time because, I like to socialize with the best of’em. But first and foremost this IS a pizza establishment. So decide wisely on when you’d like to visit. THEPIZZA on the other hand, is the BEST I’ve had in Atlanta; and I’ve tried many! The sauce is obviously homemade and seasoned expertly. The crust is crisp and handmade. And cheese… How can you go wrong with cheese? Seriously, I’d eat pizza from here everyday if I felt like venturing into Castleberry Hill daily. Especially since the prices are very reasonable. Considering the reviews seem to be all over the spectrum I say try it for yourself. If you know pizza like I do, and are not just a «delivery don» then you’ll be well satisfied. REALLY!

I would rate Slice 3.5 stars! After our general neighborhood meeting, we had our happy hour at Slice! It was great to catch up with friends in the neighborhood as well as make new ones! Shout out to my new peeps Allison and Cara!(Looks like we may have a few new Unilocalers in the making since of course I had to promote Unilocal!) Also major thanks and ups to owner, Karen Smiley; for allowing us to have the happy hour and offering free drinks! I remember Slice about 3 years ago, prior to moving to Castleberry Hill and this was one of my favorite hidden secrets in the city. Now that the neighborhood is well known, the place gets pretty packed! It’s been awhile and the food is consistent and good. My favorite pizzas are the Double Decca Becca(pretty much the everything), Raging Agee(chicken, tomatoes, blue cheese sauce and I substitute the ham for pepperoni… its different, but so good!) and the KP on a Platter(apricot, cream cheese, smoked turkey, and mozzarella… definitely has that sweet and salty taste I crave!). I love the salads and this place has the best blue cheese dressing! I will definitely go back(heck, I live across the street!)…when its not too crowded and you can find a table! I do miss the old days though when you would find more of a unique artsy crowd. ***Special Tip — Did you know you can order take out from Slice through ??? Check it out!

Went with a few friends from work for lunch, and was pleasantly surprised. It takes a while to order and receive a whole pizza in general, but we ordered two of them and made it back to the office in an hour and a half. The menu is expansive in terms of pizza toppings. They’ve got various pre-selected combinations on specialty pizzas, but you can’t order those by the slice. If you want to order by the slice, it starts at $ 2.25 and then you pay per topping. We tried two of the specialty pizzas and liked both. The«cracker» is basil, oregano, garlic, mozzarella, and ricotta. VERY garlicky, but yum. «Shawty Shawty» is blue cheese and buffalo chicken. Also, our server did not charge us for drinks(sodas and iced tea). Obviously this is not something you can expect every time, but it was an appreciated touch in the middle of my stressful work week. The music was, as my co-worker described, schizo. We were seated next to the speaker, which was turned up a bit too loud. Someone kept changing the … station? from one type of music to something UTTERLY and completely different, over and over again after about 20 – 80 seconds of a song.

At my halfway point during the Sixth Annual Castleberry Hill Loft Tour I found myself parched and slightly hungry without an immediate plan on how to find relief. I was with my friend Colt and as we were walking to the next stop on the tour I smelled something good. We followed the scent to Slice and we promptly took two stools at the bar. We were greeted when we entered and again when we sat down. I was having trouble figuring out the menu(it’s pretty, but a little confusing), so I asked the bartender to make a recommendation for our drinks. I had a pineapple upside down martini and Colt had the peach martini and both were the perfect thing for a Saturday afternoon. They have a creative specialty pizza selection and you can also build your own, which is what we did. It seemed to take longer than normal to get our pizza and when it was received it was right out of the oven(hooray for fresh food). The restaurant itself isn’t very well maintained and this was evident on a visit to one of the two unisex bathrooms. The floor hasn’t been swept or mopped in a while and the counters were kind of dirty. Also, I didn’t enjoy the reggae-type music that was playing there during lunch. They were showing a football game on the flatscreen TV’s and the music was a confusing addition. Overall good pizza, festive drinks, friendly staff, and easy on-street parking. I don’t think I’d recommend trying to make it your regular pizza spot, but definitely a fun place for a date. Colt and I have only been hanging out for a short time and compiling the pizza together was a fun way for us to get to know each other without realizing we were communicating likes and dislikes. There’s a lot you can learn about someone just by what they like on their pizza(I’m a pepperoni, green pepper, and mushroom fan in case you were wondering).

Being from New York I think I can tell good pizza by now. Slice is one of the better Pizza places in Atlanta. I started going my last year of college since it is right up the street from the AUC but up until I left Atl it was the place to go for pizza and some good calzones. Not really a fan of appetizers at a pizza place so I can’t comment but everything else is good. One of the first pizza places i ever went to that was more chic than anything else but I liked it. Getting older and sometimes you wan to be in that type of atmosphere. I say the best time to be had at Slice is when you are with a larger group.
