After reading reviews I was super excited to try this place. It fell flat on all accounts. Service was ok. The fish was NOT fresh. The rolls that were the best were the rolls with sauce. Only because it masked the fishy flavor. I love Nigri. It was maybe as good as Publix. I have to say that I was very disappointed. And if you have any form of gluten allergy they use the cheaper rice wine so you absolutely will trigger.

I love the Starfish! My boyfriend and I dined here this past Wednesday and forgot that we had both previously eaten there for lunch. Parking is easy; you pull in where you’d valet for Holeman and Finch but park in the deck. I hate valet so this makes me happy. We were seated immediately. We ordered the sashimi appetizer which was great. Salmon and tuna which was very fresh and delicious — I could eat sashimi every day if someone let me. I ordered the Starfish roll for my meal and bf got the chocolate factory roll which had steak! My roll was recommended by the waitress! I liked it but it did have a lot of sauce as previous reviews mention. I loved the salmon on top of the roll as well but will try something new next time or just stick to sashimi!

The food was fine but the service was horrible! First, we were gestured in with a «seat yourself» motion, only to be asked to move two minutes later because the waitress had not checked to see if we had a reservation, which we did not. The entrees did not come out at the same time; one member of our party had to wait 10 minutes before her dish arrived, while the other two already had their food. To cap it off, when one of us asked to get the rest of her noodle bowl to go, the first waitress brought the container to the table and left it, expecting us to pour the soup from their rather large ornamental bowl into the take out container at the table! We called her back, asked her to do it and she was incredibly cold and rude about it. RATHER upset about the whole dining experience.

Came here a week ago, on a whim I was craving sushi. This place is great. Super fresh, delicious nigiri and sashimi. The udon is also amazing, I usually get the shrimp tempura udon. The place is kind of small but never feels over-crowded. Parking is in the back, go into the same valet line as HF but go up one level. I definitely recommend trying some of their rolls as well as just plain sashimi or nigiri. Very nice, quite place to enjoy high quality sushi.

I’ve driven by this place a million times and finally got a chance to go. Staff was friendly however one of the older severs treated my friends and I as children. She didn’t want us to have the menus on the table after she served our appetizer because she thought we would spill food all over them. It was the most bizarre request I’ve ever heard from a server and quite harsh. She was also so worried about our menus that the table next to us ended up neglected. Anyways the food was delicious! Don’t be afraid to try something new here. It will be worth it. The sushi prices are a little high but I guess that’s buckhead. I guess I was just expecting something a little fancier because of their location. Might or might not go back. They do have free parking around back!

I’m updating my review because the service was absolutely horrendous. I recommended this restaurant to my colleagues because I absolutely love the sushi here and have been coming here many times. As soon as I walked in after having made the reservation for 9 at 6:30pm. I walk in at 6:30pm and I told the main hostess who is an older woman I was here for my reservation. She says«nine people???» with an attitude and they were not prepared with the table. They stuck us in a corner booth and we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. When they did I waved over the servers just in case they couldn’t see us, I gave them the benefit of doubt, and let them know hey we are ready to order. The full party sat for 30 minutes without anybody coming to take our orders. The hostess older woman comes up to us finally and instead of greeting us says«how will your checks be split?». We said separate. She said«you are already giving me problems»… That was so rude and embarrassing for me since I recommended this restaurant to my medical colleagues. She then tells us that since we are such a big group an 18% gratuity will be added automatically to each check. We were all shocked at her rudeness we were stunned silent and then she said«you can go eat somewhere else if you don’t want to tip». We had already been here for an long time so we agreed. She then decides to name us by number and addressed us as «1 lady, 2 lady, 3 lady». When one of my colleagues ordered she told him that it would not be enough for him to fill him and he should order more. We are all just so disappointed in the service and it really ruined our dinner experience. I’m sure none of my colleagues will ever come eat here again and I cannot blame them. Starfish has truly disappointed me today with the amount of rudeness from the staff.

So– my fiancé and I went to Benihana and had a horrible experience. I am sure you will find out review there as well for the same night. This experience was the total opposite: the staff was amazing and punctual. Great service and amazing night food. I would highly recommend te Daegu Bulgogi. Having been stationed in Daegu and had the real thing… Their’s was better. Great experience and outstanding service. Props for the good conversations too!

Went here for New Year’s Eve dinner. We were seated immediately even though we did not have reservations. I tried: she’s all that roll, a Suzuki sashimi. I really enjoyed the roll, it was fresh and delicious. I really enjoyed the ambiance and the décor, it has a romantic feel to it. One downside: the service was really slow. Even though there were only a few patrons, it took longer than usual to get the waiters attention. I would recommend Starfish and come back in the future.

My husband I are are sushi connoisseurs and we go to all the best Atlanta sushi places. Starfish is definitely one of the top places! It’s more casual than others and the prices are more affordable, but they definitely don’t compromise on quality. I recommend this place to all my friends who want good sushi and not too expensive.

This place continues to put out really fresh fish and they are super nice people too. Sushi is never cheap, but this is a good bargain for the money. Easily my favorite in atl

I wanted to try their sushi. I eat sushi 2 – 3 times a week and I like to try new places. One sunday evening we have visited Starfish and ordered 2 sushi rolls. In the whole place us and another couple was dining. Small but nicely decorated place. I had hard time to find a good sushi roll in the menu and server came to table 2 times in 5 minutes. Then hostess came to ask me if I was ready to order. I asked her their salmon rolls and there was only 2 rolls in the whole menu. She was rude and she repeated herself when I ask if there is other rolls with salmon. Sushi came after 20 minutes(we are only people ordering). Both sushi plates came with 5 pieces and rice around the rolls was falling, loosly wrapped around nori and shape of every piece was different than the other. Didn’t fit in mouth and fell apart. Don’t recommend the hospitality and sushi. Don’t waste your money.

These guys are slow and rarely busy inside, but they always ask if you have a reservation and take your plates away when you’re not done eating, like they’re hurrying you out for customers who are not there. The food is pricey, but no where near the flavor or quality youd expect for the price. Everything tastes fishy except for the ginger side salad. They have this tiny little 1 inch cube of cheesecake that they only offer you if you spend at least 30 a person. The old lady is rude and overall this place isn’t very nice when you consider Wagaya and Ginya are barely a mile away and way better!

Excellent for lunch! Convenient free parking right behind the restaurant. Their two rolls for 10 dollars are great deal and the ambience is so nice. Not too loud and plenty of booths for small groups. Make sure to try the spicy tuna roll! Yummy.

Mixed reviews for me. First of all, it’s different than one you expect, or at least what I expected. I wasn’t expecting such a formal setting. White tablecloth and a little more formal than casual. Service is slow, but I think that’s just their thing. First time I went, I had a good experience. Second time wasn’t bad, but my Tuna just didn’t look quite right. I will probably go back one day, just not a place that sticks out to me.

A very attractive, sweet hostess brought us to our table by the window and the rest of the night was just as sweet. My boyfriend and I were able to enjoy a romantic dinner together. Good food, good ambiance. You can tell they use fresh, good quality ingredients for their sushi. Things were crispy when they should be crispy, tender when they should be tender, and chewy when supposed to be chewy. Each bite was a delicate dance of flavors on my tongue. The napkins were held together by a little shiny bracelet thing. I love it when businesses pay attention to little details like that. Restrooms are also nicely decorated. Even though it is in the middle of midtown, there is great parking that is easy to find and get to. It’s a bit pricey for sushi normally, but it’s definitely worth it. Oh I forgot to mention the wine was also really good. I order some white wine and it was perfectly chilled.

Absolutely WONDERFUL experience from beginning to end. My boyfriend and I arrived and were automatically greeted, welcomed, and showed to a booth of our preference. Our server(shoutout to Kanako) was very attentive, so nice, and was really patient with all our questions! My boyfriend is ridiculously picky about sushi and we’ve been looking for some place to call our spot in Atlanta. We got the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Roll(which was our favorite), the Wonder Boy roll(loved the citrusy Ponzu sauce), and the Cinderella Man roll(I’ll let that roll speak for itself). All three were amazing and we plan on getting them all again and frequenting Starfish often. At the end we got complementary baby cheesecakes! Loved this sushi restaurant and i recommend everyone in Atlanta check it out!

This place was a really nice surprise. We stepped out for dinner in the middle of a hectic work week, with nowhere to go. I had somewhere romantic and calming in mind, and ran into this place. We walked in around 9 and were seated pretty quickly. The older woman came to take our order, but we still needed a few more minutes– never saw her again. We finally waved down the younger man who quickly took our order and brought our sake within 5 minutes of ordering. The food was really yummy, and we had the green tea ice cream for dessert. Everything from the appetizer(edamame with a garlic sauce) to dessert was delicious. I really appreciate this place making this busy work week much more pleasant to get through. Thank you! OVERALL: Food was yummy; service was slow, but nice people; ambiance was perfect, dim lighting, but I could still see my bf; music was at a nice level; décor was fine.

Mediocre sushi, hit or miss service, luxury prices for mediocre sushi, and parking can be a pain if the lot is filled. I checked them out because I received a coupon a in the mail for a bogo sort of deal. Me and the bestie decided we wouldn’t go to our regular sushi spot and try this place out since I had a coupon. The waitress was not engaging and half assed answered our questions regarding the interesting names of the rolls. One roll is called finding nemo, isn’t that kinda cruel? Lol the restaurant is ok, I only went once because I wasn’t impressed with the sushi or the service. Even with the coupon we still spent about $ 40.

Great food and great service. The staff is always friendly. The rolls are creative and fun. The food is always consistently tasty. I really enjoyed their She’s All That roll because their spicy tuna tartar is different from the regular spicy tuna at other sushi restaurants. The galbi ribs are also delicious. Always ask the chef for the freshest fish.

The sushi here was pretty good, but service was a bit slow. We started with the tuna tataki, which was delicious. It was perfectly seared and had a delicious crust made of black sesame seeds and something else magical. We had the Finding Nemo Roll(I don’t remember everything that was on it, just the scallops and that it was AWESOME; I highly recommend it), eel roll, and Avatar roll(spicy sautéed shrimp, crunchy tempura flakes, and a bucketload of «Starfish sauce»). I could have done with less Starfish sauce on the Avatar roll; the sauce kind of drowned out the taste of everything else, and it tasted kind of like thousand island dressing, anyway. Maybe if they had put the sauce on the side??? I also have a little gripe about the sushi: I felt like it was kind of poorly rolled. The sushi felt loose, and when I went to pick up a piece of the eel roll, it exploded and fell into my soy sauce, which has never happened to me before because I’ve been using chopsticks since I was a toddler. We also had the shrimp and vegetable tempura, which was pretty standard and nothing special. The funny part was dessert. They asked us if we would like a «complimentary cheesecake dessert» and we were like, «thank you so much, that would be great.» They brought out a chocolate cheesecake cube and raspberry cheesecake cube. The ones from Sam’s Club. I know y’all know exactly which ones I’m talking about. I couldn’t quite stifle a giggle at the«complimentary cheesecake»; it was bad, but kind of endearing. The sushi was good and Starfish is within walking distance from my house, so I’ll be back for sure.

The things I like: Pricing and the bento box for a quick and healthy but filling lunch. The things I don’t like: The service from the older woman that I believe owns the place or something and the fact that they close at 2 but if you walk in 1:45 they tell you that they are closed. I you close at 2 you close at 2. If you want to stop taking customers at 1:45 then make 1:45 your hours!

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience, especially after very up and down reviews. Their miso soup is fantastic, better than Yakatori Jinbei. I chose the Finding Nemo roll and the Chicago roll along with varied nigiri. It’s close by and priced reasonably.

I was not particularly blown away by this place. Ambiance: on the nicer side of casual, but still casual. The restaurant is smaller with dim lighting so I could see it being a better place for more intimate or smaller affairs. Food: it was okay. We ordered several rolls, udon, and the spicy tuna tartare(the tartare was quite spicy– just a warning!). The rolls were similar to what you would find at other restaurants, so nothing that spectacular. Same goes for the udon. I guess this place is known more for their rolls, as opposed to sashimi/nigiri? They had quite an extensive list of Americanized rolls, so maybe don’t come here if you’re looking for the traditional Japanese experience. Service: SLOWSLOWSLOW. For a random Monday night, the service was surprisingly lagging. They threw out our order sheet(?) so we waited extra long for our rolls to come out. Considering the restaurant was only moderately full, the dishes and check could’ve been brought out a lot faster. We ended up staying at the restaurant for over 2.5 hours, which was a lot considering we didn’t even order that much.

I came here for lunch with Mrs. Unilocal Atlanta(aka JJ G.) and really enjoyed it! We started with edamame which tastes like edamame anywhere except that it’s served with this delicious, creamy ginger dipping sauce. For $ 4 it was a decent portion and a nice way to start the meal. For lunch I ordered the sushi roll combo. I chose the tuna roll and veggie tempura roll(new years resolutions don’t start for a couple more days, right?). It’s a good deal for $ 9 but doesn’t come with soup(odd). I still ordered a soup though since it was only $ 2. I’m happy I did, the soup was very tasty and even had some mushrooms in it giving it a nice flavor. The rolls were perfect for me. The tuna was really fresh, none of that fatty stuff that other places try to give you(cough, zen on 10). The veggie tempura roll was HUGE and packed with different fried vegetables. Somehow I managed to finish all of mine AND the last of JJ’s(again, new years resolutions don’t start for a couple days). The veggie tempura roll also had some sort of brown sauce drizzled on it. I’m not sure what it was(eel sauce?) but it was perfect for the roll. The waitress was polite and did a good job of not rushing us out(they were dead but still, some places get weird). I also appreciated the FREE and easy parking. The regular menu seems kind of pricey so I’m not sure I’ll be running back for dinner any time soon, but I’ll definitely remember this for future lunch cravings.
