What a treasure — this is a step into the past. It’s a totally sub-Johnny’s Hideaway experience — disco on the tiny dance floor with some sure steppin’ 70 – 80 YOs who know how to DANCE. The bar food«ain’t bad» — I do NOT eat fried food, but at the Getaway, I gobbled up some fried chicken tenders with BBQ sauce. The drinks are cheap and plentiful — the server is a doll who speaks 5 languages and has some stories(and costume pictures) to share. And she WILL, teach you how to dance, grandaddy(also taught me some steps — maybe she thought of me at Auntie?) This place is surreal, it’s so retro-cool in a real way. Forget those wannabe recreations — this is the REAL thing — Paper Plane, move on over. It’s in the lower floor of a really drab office building, but watch the heck out — maybe no smoking inside in many years, the nicotine lives on in the roots and fiber of The Getaway. Love this place.
