Trees Atlanta is the best! If you have spent any time at all outdoors in Atlanta, you have seen trees, grasses, plants, or flowers planted and maintained by Trees Atlanta. This organization is the real deal. They don’t just plant trees wherever they feel like it; they work with communities to build sustainable greenspaces, they educate consumers on Georgia’s ecosystems, they partner with businesses and local governments on urban planning initiatives, and they utilize volunteer labor in such a smart(and fun!) way. I’m sure they do way more than that, too. I’m not speaking as an employee or board member or anything– I’ve volunteered a handful of times and I get their e-newsletter. But they impress me so much! If you want to get involved, they have a section of their website for volunteering( ). They have volunteer projects almost every Saturday morning. They also have special events like MLK Day, Earth Day, fundraisers, plant sales, etc. I just learned about a volunteer program they have called Weeds and Wine where you help them weed for a few hours then a local restaurant gives you drinks and apps. Can’t beat that! There’s also a program called Neighborwoods, where Atlanta neighborhoods can get trees planted or ask for help maintaining them. Long live Trees Atlanta!

We came to Trees Atlanta for an event a few weeks ago and I was so impressed with the space! For $ 2500 inside Atlanta AND you can choose your own caterer? Yes, please! Our friends who organized the event said that the staff was an absolute pleasure to work with and that a lot of that money goes back in to the organization itself. The space is gorgeous, with a fantastic patio and relaxing space, and a huge main room that can be set with tables or left open for dancing. There was even a little room that they let us use to contain the children in(with babysitters) so they didn’t get bored with the grown up party. I really hope I have the opportunity to come back here, I just loved it so much! The only tip I have is to get there early– the parking lot isn’t huge, but there IS street parking.

If you’re interested in hands-on environmentalism, meeting good people, and performing a real service to communities across Atlanta, then I couldn’t recommend a better nonprofit for volunteer work.
