It was our first time here and we had a fairly new waitress who couldn’t have been more lovely. She dropped the plate of food but we did not mind — accidents happen. She felt awful and rushed to the kitchen as she was then screamed at for the whole restaurant to here by the nasty owner for messing up which led to her crying for minutes. Not only was it unprofessional but totally uncalled for. Wendy was wonderful!

I live in town and I want this place to be great. The owners are really lovely. Great people. BUT the food is phoned in. You can not keep doing the stuff that passed for bbq 30 years ago. It breaks my heart. Especially now that Surf BBQ has opened, you are dead if you don’t liven this place up. The ribs are decent. The sides are TERRIBLE.(fries are ok). Seriously, I got collards 3 times and they were watery with ZERO flavor. I ordered it 3 times because I could not believe they were still in business and serving what I had. Also please get rid of the hospital cafeteria plastic bowls. Seriously, this could be the coolest space in town. Get some bar biz going. Just clean the place and hire a bartender. Throw in some bbq apps and craft beer and you are set. They really need to take stock. You’ve got the soul. just make the food to match.

Just left there and I give them two stars because my husbands baby back ribs were great. The waitress was very nice but my spare ribs were awful. They were so tough I couldn’t eat then. My husband tried one and he too said they were awful as they were chewy and no flavor. The waitress said the owner was not there do she could only take off our soda’s as she didn’t have the authority to take off the ribs. While still there the owner came back in and she went over and spoke to him but he went in the back and ignored it. So I paid 17.00 for ribs I could not eat. We have been going here for years and have recommended this place but we will never go back. That was a poor way to handle it.

Great big portion but wayyyy over priced for what you are eating and where you are. The difference between baby back ribs and spare ribs is not noticeable. The décor is very laid back and casual. There is an unlabeled salad bar and a ton of mismatched pig items. Either charming or over whelming. BUT the food is good.

The spare ribs and pulled pork are delicious. Fries are very good. The coleslaw has too much green pepper and is kinda flat tasting in spite of it. The ice tea was good but we were not offered refills. Baked beans are very good. The worst thing about the place is the smell of chemicals when seated back by the salad bar. Don’t sit in the back half of the place! And the guy that came wandering out of the kitchen area was dressed in the dirtiest shirt and pants I’ve ever seen on a restaurant worker(owner??). When you first walk in there is a musty old building smell that actually goes with the 30 year old special décor. Love the décor, and the ribs!

Had a lovely meal here last night(11÷20÷15) and I have to say, having not dined here for many years I’m kicking myself for not coming back sooner. We were a party of three and had the chicken kabob and chicken fingers for appetizers. I liked that they were small dishes, almost like tapas. I hate when restaurants give you meal size portions to start out with. The kabob was the standout, charred perfectly on the outside and juicy on the inside. Entrees included ribs and filet mignon for Big Brother and Me and the sirloin steak for my fiancé. Each came with a generous helping of fries. They were fried perfectly and came unseasoned, which i love because some spots will overseason their fries, so being able to put as much or as little salt and pepper on them is always good in my book. I ordered my steak medium rare and you basically didn’t need a knife because it was so tender. Heck, you barely needed to chew, it was that buttery soft. No sauces of any kind were needed for this cut of meat. Just a touch of salt and you are good to go. My ribs were succulent. That is the only real word i can describe how they were. Tender, juicy, fall off the bone pork with a delightfully smokey bbq sauce, plus extra to slather on. The sauce was a standout, both sweet and a little spicy. We found ourselves dipping our fries in it. The baked beans were decent but the turnip greens needed some flavor. I would suggest smoked turkey legs or ham bones thrown in to give it a little umph. Each entrée came with the salad bar, which is always good because I love salad bars. Their potato salad was top notch and since it’s shaping up to be another nasty winter, is a nice reminder of summertime picnics. Service was prompt, courteous, and efficient. We each felt well taken care of and tipped accordingly. Décor is eclectic and charming. Pigs everywhere. The bar seems a little out of place, it looks like something you’d find in an old New York saloon back in the 30’s but it works. It gives the place character, which it is teeming with already. I shall return.

Very disappointed. This place was great the last time I was there years ago. I recently moved back and was looking forward to it, but it was SO disappointing. And gross. The table cloth was a sticky vinyl, the menu was sticky, the whole place was just a sad hot mess. The salad bar was a sad little thing. The food was ok but way too expensive. The turnip greens were cold and flavorless. The french fries needed salt!?! The waitress was polite and helpful. The best part was the apple sauce– I want a that recipe it was amazing!!! Very disappointed.

Food and service was fantastic. Had the flounder stuffed with shrimp, wife had the baby back ribs and my daughter had the pulled pork. Salad bar was included. Most dishes were under $ 20. Great value. Highly recommend! Love this place.

Very friendly staff. Passing through town Felipe sailing southern. I’m from Arkansas, I love swine, and I was glad I choose the place while doing my laundry. It was quaint and hospitality was perfectly welcoming. Had a drink while killing some time and decided to order from the amazing smell. BBQ sauce was excellent and the ribs were perfectly cooked from the bite I sneaked from my Togo box. Can’t wait to get back to the boat and enjoy everything with the sunset.

Had dinner with my boyfriend we both got the baby back ribs and they were delicious!!! They gave us extra barbecue sauce on the side. We both had the salad bar and yes it was small but everything was very fresh and the pasta salad was very good! We were a little skeptical because of some of the other reviews but we are very happy that we tried it and will be going back.

Very Expensive for what you get, ordered a pulled pork sandwich which was served on a grocery store hamburger bun. Maybe I received the wrong menu, but the entrées were way high… Fatty, Fatty, Fatty. First two bites were bone fragment and fat. Instead of pork butt, all I could think of is they stripped the meat off ribs that were old or not eaten. Anyway, I paid the price the next day and so did my coworkers who shared the bathroom. I uses to love this place. I will say Service was excellent and beer was cold

You know this place is special when 1) you can smell the delicious bbq aroma from a block away, and 2) the outside is like a lush garden of beautiful flowers. Then when you enter, you are welcomed by friendly staff into an old time atmosphere, like a little taste of Tennessee at the Jersey shore, featuring pigs of all descriptions festooning the interior. And the food? My wife had pulled pork and I had ribs. Delicious. We will be going back again. And bringing friends and family with us. Oh and by the way, owner Connie and my wife hit it off talking about the flowers outside, so much so that Connie gave her cuttings and an entire pot of begonias as a take home gift. Woohoo indeed.

I cannot say enough about how DELICIOUSTHEFOODISHERE!!! I’ve lived in Monmouth County my entire life and FINALLY went in here the other day and was completely floored. The owner, Connie, is the sweetest woman from Memphis, and she told me all about how she uses her grandmother & mother’s Memphis Regional-style recipes in her cooking. There is a reason why they have been in business for 30 years— UNREAL. My husband could not stop eating the ribs and we both agree they are the best we have ever had in our lives. The sangria is AWESOME, too! DEFINITELY stop by and«get your rib on!»

My family has been coming here since before I was even born. Family owned and operated. Polite and speedy service. I always get the baby back ribs so juicy and tender. The beans are excellent and so are the greens it’s always a hard choice. My only complaint is I tried to substitute the beans for French fries to get greens too and they won’t do that it costs extra so you may as well just get the extra side. The salad bar is epic do not pass it up. So many options and everything is original and delicious.

I will start by saying that we stopped in without reading any of the reviews here. Memphis Pig Out had a convincingly well decorated exterior of flowers and a flea market like collection of pig bric a brac. They weren’t very busy on a Saturday night which alone should have been a warning sign, but Ms. Publius and I both love ribs. Each of our meals included the salad bar, a small, uneventful selection of lettuce and marinated and fresh vegetables. Aalthough we’re not big eaters, when it came to the main courses, the portions were very small. I’ve eaten BBQ in Memphis, and small portions just don’t make sense. Ribs were fine, although for the $ 20 price tag there was not much meat on them. The side of turnip greens was inedible and had to be out of a can. Fries were fine, although neither of us generally eat potatoes, especially fried, both of us were still hungry from the meal and ate most of them. Service was brusque, and they rushed us out. Not terrible given the semi-reasonable cost(under $ 60 for two with drinks) but 1) not authentic 2) small portions 3) not great quality.

We went on a not so busy Friday night and were greeted by friendly staff who promptly seated us. She had BBQ shrimp kabobs over rice with turnip greens while I opted for baby back ribs also with greens. All entrees come with their salad bar which had some nice if ordinary choices. Her shrimp were over cooked and tasted weird and the accompanying rice was bland. I thought my ribs would have made a better choice but there was hardly any meat on the bones and they were quite fatty. The greens were right out of the can and were also tasteless. I’m usually pretty easy to please but the only positive things I can say is that their sauce and fries are delicious and our waiter was very friendly. For a place that advertises authentic barbecue I’m sorry to say I’ve had better ribs at chain restaurants.

I’ll start out by saying I lived in Memphis over 10 years and I really do think this is pretty authentic Memphis style BBQ. Perhaps some reviewers don’t like that taste because there definitely are several distinctive styles – dry rub, wet. And then pork(Memphis) vs beef(generally not Memphis). About the only thing non authentic is the beans(most Memphis places put pulled pork in the beans). Yes the decoration is a bit over the top, tacky. But the prices are a bit high for what you get which is why I dropped them a star.

Just to be clear I have made several attempts over the years to eat here but my timing while I was in the area never worked around the location being open. Finally today we were on the way back from Sandy Hook and decided to stop. Now from the outside this place looks interesting with a very unique look to it, trust me I don’t want my BBQ coming from place that looks like it’s owned by the Four Seasons. One you walk in is where the confusion begins, there is a foyer that has a tiny entry door(and also a staircase that leads to… ?) we guessed you just walk in so we proceeded. Oh…my…god… it honestly reminded me of the scene in Texas chainsaw massacre where everyone was sitting around the dinner table… The room itself was really awesome. great tin ceilings, tons of woodwork, lots of potential. The décor however was a complete train wreck that was a mix between a butcher shop, a pig museum, a Christmas village, and my grandmothers living room. I have eaten at some weirdly decorated places before though and know not everyone that cooks great food has a budget to advertise, brand themselves, and decorate professionally though so I didn’t think too much into it. It took 4 people to figure out how to seat us(only a party of 4) they seemed to get into a large debate about where to seat us(in a room with only 15 tables) we finally get seated and it took about about 8 – 10 minutes for someone to come out and take out drink order. No introduction, tossed our menus on the tables, took our drink orders walked away. Ok I can live with that, people have bad days. Drinks come out finally and we place our orders(there is no actual kids menu but things with a * are kids portions which is half the food and half the price, which no one told us and we had to figure out ourself) we finally place our order. Buffalo wings and mozzarella sticks for appetizers, one pulled pork, one rack of ribs, 2BBQ shrimp kebabs. The salad bar had flickering lights, flies making themselves at home and was very unkept so I bypassed that adventure all together so I cannot comment on the quality of the food. The buffalo wings HAD to be frozen out of a bag, tasted freezer burnt, no real breading, sauce was non existent, and no flavor. Whatever the blue cheese dressing was, it was runny and had a medicinal taste — you read that right. Mozzarella sticks also seemed like a bagged product and the sauce was absolutely awful, it honestly tasted like a packet from White Castle, it didn’t even adhere to the sticks it just slid off like it was applied to a Teflon coated surface. The ribs were actually pretty tasty, they weren’t bad however I am not sure if the«smoking» was natural or artificially flavored with liquid smoke. The pulled pork — was some of the most bland I ever had. It was moist however there wasn’t any flavor, no smokiness, no color… it was served with a BBQ sauce which taste good but did not taste homemade. To make matters worse it was served with a stale potato bun most likely from the Foodtown across the highway. The baked beans were pretty good, watery but good. The coleslaw was well; I wasn’t a fan and apparently neither was the table next to us. The BBQ shrimp kebab was a children’s portion which was(3) pieces of 31⁄35 shrimp with a small handful of fries and baked beans for $ 8.50 It was the smallest portion I have ever seen for that price. The children seemed to be at mixed decisions on the shrimp though one liked it and the other did not. The service was also right down there with the food quality. Everyone seemed miserable like they had witnessed a terrible tragedy and were unable to recover. No smiles, no greetings, no introduction like«hi I’m sue I’ll be your server» …still didn’t know who our server was because she never told us and didn’t have an actual uniform on. The waitstaff were dressed in all black but no aprons so whatever food they had spilt on themselves just festered away as they continued to serve the guests. We literally saw a server covered in food that looks like it has been there for days. One of the waitresses who brought out my food had leaned over into my first order of beans as her shirt was dripping into it and as she was holding the tray dug her thumb into another dish of beans for the table next to us and actually served it to them! I have never asked for a check so quickly in my entire life, I didn’t want to sit around and talk and digest what I had just eaten I just wanted to leave, immediately. When our actual waitress came to bring the check(only the 3rd time we saw our real waitress the whole time) she asked if we were in a hurry to catch a movie next door. I had to explain to her that we were not and were just anxious to leave. She developed this confused look as if this were the first time anyone has done this there and then proceeded to lecture us on how good everyone says the food is and there’s never any issues here. –_– Don’t walk, run from here.

I like this place. It’s across the street from a nice movie theater, and parking is easy most of the time. The décor is different, it’s «pig» themed, and it foretells of the great meat to follow. I’ve had the ribs, all types, pulled pork and the sides. The staff is friendly. Salad bar is great. No complaints, recommend to all. PS: I’v read the other reviews on this page, these folks must be writing about someplace else. This restaurant is bright, cheery, it’s fun. I personally think its great, that why I gave it 5 stars.
