Atlantic, IA: Gracious hospitality! Roger epitomizes the ideal bed and breakfast innkeeper. From my initial contact over the phone to his refilling our on-the-road water vessels, he never hesitated to offer great information and follow through with accommodating all our needs. No problem with gluten free meal requests! Potential late dinner arrival was not to be a problem, as long as he was provided advance notice. From Unilocal reviews and Roger, we knew ahead of arrival that the exterior of the house was a work in progress. Originally constructed in the 1880s, we could see there was still a lot of work to be done. However, the interior has already received a ton of love and attention to details. Roger has put many hours into restoring the various rooms to the elegance of its heyday. They are beautiful and stunning. Our upstairs guestroom had an ensuite shower and a working wood burning fireplace that would be so cozy to curl up by in winter. The extra long, full sized bed was quite comfortable. I believe lunch, but definitely dinners, are served by reservations only, to the pubic in the dining rooms. Roger is a superb cook and an amazing host. Our green dinner salads topped with fresh cut seasonal fresh fruit and berries were a delicious first course. A single scoop of home made sorbet was elegantly served to «cleanse the palate» before the next course. Our boneless ribeye steaks were cooked to a nice medium rare, and seasoned perfectly. The sides of asparagus spears and seasoned, fried potatoes rounded out the plate. A glass of red wine was selected by hubby while I chose home baked key lime pie to complete our meal. The air conditioning units made it quite comfortable inside the house. Roger can fill you in on myriad details of the house’s history. Dinner guests invited us to join them at their table and made me feel like we were visiting old friends in a sitting parlor. We had a wonderful stay!

Accommodated us at the last minute for a party of 10. Fantastic quiche and potatoes proceeded by fresh fruit. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Call ahead to let Roger know about any dietary concerns.

My son and I were driving cross country and seeing how we are wheat, dairy and soy free we were having difficulty finding restaurants that met out needs. I called sf martin after noticing it on Unilocal and was happily surprised to hear from the owner/chef that he was available to cook for us. Upon arrival we were greeted with amazing friendliness and intriguing stories. We were in love with the décor and overall atmosphere, the furniture, crystal and silver, the artwork lining the walls, as well as the jolly neighbors who stopped in for a chat. The meals he made for us were exactly what we needed, a delicious pork loin for my son and a salmon filet for me with wild rice and veggies. Home cooking with love! Thank you sf martin so much for saving us from fast food and so very sweet to meet you.

Where do I start? Musical instruments in the entryway, Victorian antique décor, turn of the century opulence, almost New Orleans bordello atmosphere(sans femme) … it is like dinning in a Victorian museum. Now the food… it is a gourmet’s delight. It is a four course meal with fresh salad, divine sherbet to cleanse the palate, high quality filet with raspberry reduction(also has fantastic fresh fish flown in from the coast), and homemade dessert. The service could not be more personal and accommodating. Roger is the proprietor, maitre de and chef. He is a delight. My family has had many great meals over the years. This is a location for a special meal to remember.
