A funny thing happened on my way to staying at the Quality Inn. I was on my way home from the beach and was ambivalent about whether to stop or keep going to Atlanta. But I stopped to visit my sister and was tired and decided to stay the night in Auburn. It was after 7pm, hotels weren’t full, and I tried to negotiate a lower rate at several of the chain hotels on the Interstate. Nobody would budge. Why wouldn’t you sell a room at $ 80 instead of letting it sit empty? I don’t usually stay at this level of hotel, but I stopped at Quality Inn and was quoted a very good rate for a room(I chose a King bed but could have had a Queen, also) and then they came down another $ 10! Deal clinched. It was exactly what I was looking for since I’d be there less than 12 hours. First off, the staff was very friendly and helpful, from the desk clerk that booked me at night to the owner/manager who checked me out the next morning. From my experience they are very customer service friendly. Second, the room was clean, fairly spacious by today’s standards and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the mattress and linens. The bed was a highlight of the room and provided a restful, comfortable sleep. There’s a small refrigerator and microwave in the room, also. The bathroom was roomy, towels were more than adequate, but don’t expect granite countertops or fancy features at this kind of hotel. Third, certain common areas have a scruffy appearance. The breakfast area looked disheveled when I checked in at night with crumbs on every table and chairs pushed aside. I wondered if it had been that way since early morning. Fourth, the breakfast itself seemed bare bones and no one cleaned the breakfast area in the morning, again with crumbs on every table, chairs not pushed in. Since I was meeting someone at the Waffle House next door(there are steps from the parking lot going to the Waffle House) I grabbed some orange juice and I checked out the offerings. It was close to the end time for breakfast, but the biscuits were crunchy and the gravy was congealed. I wasn’t impressed and I’d recommend eating at Waffle House next door. Overall, I was impressed with this Quality Inn. It was a great value with good service and I’d recommend it to anyone who needs basic lodging for a night.
