I went there from Renton to try a new diner. worst country gravy I think I have ever had. Super thick and the flour wasn’t cooked so it tasted like raw flour paste. Service was ok, $ 2.25 for the smallest glass of oj. Too bad I wanted to like it…

Went for dinner, just order a hamburger and fries… waitress brought out soup samples as I wasn’t sure if I would like it. Good thing they were samples… clam chowder tasted horrible, watered down potato soup with Luke warm clams added. wasn’t even thick. Then the navy bean soup had big chunks of stewed tomatoes in it. Not use the having tomatoes in my navy bean soup. Then my hamburger arrived… it wasn’t spectacular. My fries were cold n greasy. Would have been better if they were fresh since they looked delicious. They were the homemade type! Over experience wasn’t too bad will go again but won’t be a regular that’s for sure.

Great food and service but not the best atmosphere. Desperately needs updating and smells strongly of cigarettes… reminiscent of the bowling alleys of the 90s!

So this place — at least on a Monday morning — seems to be for an older crowd. I was by far the youngest one there. The service is good, very friendly. I ordered a cheddar and mushroom omelet and coffee. It was good, but really greasy. The hash browns were just OK. I don’t think I’d come back, but wouldn’t kick and scream if I did. ;)

This place is so cute ! Food is delicious and the bar tender Heather was warm and inviting. Celebrating my bfs B-Day and she gave him a free drink. Cool vibe, cool crowd and cool people. Definitely a new spot for me.

A nice quiet place for breakfast. Good omelettes and hash browns. Reasonable prices and good friendly service. The way a diner should be.

Never having been here(and being new Auburn residents) was truly looking forward to finding a new breakfast joint close by. We realized it was a Saturday and on a holiday wknd no less but we arrived late morning, after what would be the typical rush hours. We parked in the back and walked through the bar to the restaurant. The sign said Please wait to be seated. It was at least 10 min before anyone acknowledged us. Yes it was packed but when multiple servers walk by with not a smile on their face and did not even say Boo … bad feeling. Luckily a gentleman seated us soon after. I’m all for waiting especially if it’s that great of an eatery. Now, that all being said, our meal did not disappoint. We had mimosas, bloody mary and a coffee. The cocktails were great and I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup. We ordered pancakes, bacon and the hillbilly skillet. WOW! We left with extremely full bellies! The food will bring us back. The servers need to thank their cooks for that.

I love this restaurant. It is simple but delicious food. They recognize me and my kids when we come in. It is comfortable and the service is great.

Went in for breakfast and waited for 15 minutes. No menu, no hello, nothing. So we left. What incredibly lousy service.

A gooood place to eat! I had Archie’s Omelet and one blueberry pancake. Quality of food and tremendously friendly and attentive staff should get you in the door. I highly recommend this place!

I was passing through town on business and tried two other places but both stopped servin breakfast at 11am. A nice waitress recommended this joint. I was concerned about coming here based upon the reviews but contrary to a couple of the most recent reviews had a very positive experience. The service was excellent. Our waitress is clearly a pro as it’s just her but she has managed to be the only waitress on the floor with 7 tables. Had a smile on her face and appears to be genuinely having a good time. Quick to fill my cup! The food was good. The Rainbow skillet is a little heavy on the potato but is otherwise quite good. Taking a peak at some of the tables around me the fish and chips looks amazing! I would come here again in the future and I would order the Rainbow Skillet again as well.

Looking to enjoy breakfast and support our local economy… Food was just ok, the waitress was absolutely miserable, couldn’t even get her to exchange a smile :(

This was second on the list. Or first option was closed. I’ll just give you highlights. They served us instant mashed potatoes(the kind you’d get out of a box). That’s upsetting. The waitress. She walked right past the table a few times with our stuff in her hands and was forgetful,(it wasn’t busy at all) There were tons of flies flying around us and our food and I had late night ‘tummy troubles’ that I blame on the food. I will not be back to this café again.

This place is not what I expected a café to be. It’s more like your neighborhood dumpy dive bar that also serves some food. The food was okay, the server was very nice but the clientele were your drunk regulars. It might be nice in the evenings(though I doubt it) but it’s not the place to go just to eat breakfast on a day off(unless you just partied all night, puked all over your clothes and don’t want to be seen by anybody you know).

My go to home away from home. Jill is a fantastic waitress who always has a fantastic attitude. Breakfast is what I have most of the time, good stuff. Hollandaise is very good and has a nice lemon taste. I’ve also had lunch here good solid grasp of traditional diner classics like patty melts and chicken fried steak. Fair prices, generous portions. Never a rush to leave, this is the kind of place to catch up with friends and family. Free Wifi as well. As i write this, I realize I’m smiling remembering the good times and great conversation I enjoy here. Clean, simple décor.

Second time here. Enjoyed out first visit and decided to come back. Weren’t disappointed. Quick and friendly service. Even the owner stopped by and asked how things were. Nice atmosphere and great food! We’ll certainly be back here for breakfast and lunch often.

I have come here a handful of times with my mom. I always enjoy it and the food. Today we had the clam chowder. I was very skeptical that it would taste good from a small café that doesn’t specialize in it. I could not have been more wrong! When I talked to our server, she said that they made it from scratch every time. You can tell! I was shocked! I nearly ate my mom’s entire bowl. Our sandwiches were good too(The Club & French Dip) and I was glad to see the number of things they do make my scratch, although it’s not everything. One server really made our experience a special one! Her name was Janina. She is pleasant, efficient, and personable. She had a lot of knowledge about everything at the café and was so personable while we shared family stories. :) I would go back just to have a pleasant homey experience and be in her section! If I want to go have good quality time with my parents when I visit… this is the place I want to come. I particularly thought it was sweet that as my 1 year old daughter and I faced the kitchen… I noticed somebody back there playing peekaboo with her which was sooooooooo adorable! How sweet! The bottom line. Janina and much of the other staff is fantastic and their clam chowder made me want to come on here and rate their café more than any other time I’ve visited! :-D

The old owner had pretty well driven this ham and egger into the ground so when it was announced that someone with restaurant and food service experience had purchased the Rainbow it was received with welcoming arms. We purposely waited several months so the new guy could get things in order. This morning we walked in and seated ourselves and waited and waited, finally the waitress shows up to tell us she’ll be right with us, several more minutes go by and she shows up again to offer coffee and menus but no silverware. Where’s the silverware? It’s all in the dishwasher. We do order, and again we wait and wait and we aren’t the only ones waiting, the problem is a group in the meeting room. So ignore the main dining room for a group. Great, just great. The food was warm when it was finally served and good but this is just a ham and egger, nothing special. We are given our check and go to the counter to pay and we have to wait for our waitress to cash us out because no one else can. Again, really? If you have nothing else to do and want to spend an hour and half for breakfast then you will find nothing wrong with this place. If you are like me and think the owner might want to get his act together or watch his clienteler go elsewhere you’ll avoid this place. After all, it’s just a ham and egger.

Don’t let the negative reviews keep you from trying out the Rainbow Café. I work in Auburn and there isn’t a huge amount of decent places to eat but I’ve always had positive experiences here. Granted, I’ve only eaten breakfast and lunch here so I can’t comment on the dinner menu. But it’s your run of the mill mom and pop diner. Prices are reasonable…$ 7 – 8 for breakfast/lunch. Sandwiches are pretty good. They use nice thick cut bacon. Servers always seem friendly and attentive. It won’t knock you socks off or anything but for a lunch in Auburn, it ain’t bad. For a quick cheap lunch, do the half sandwich/soup/salad special.
