This place is awesome! Really Southern cooking at it’s finest. When we walked in we were immediately greeted and sat. Despite being moderately busy our server came right over and answered our questions. I ordered the fried chicken livers, macaroni and cheese and cabbage. It was so yummy! I will absolutely be back!

Big portions, down home cooking… Mac and cheese excellent, green beans, collards, cabbage and rutabagas all delicious. Daughter loved country fried steak, I ate all of mine but thought it was a bit floury. DH had chicken livers– very good, but didn’t expect deep fried. Service friendly. Seemed like people in the know may have called in their orders ahead.

Overall pretty good food, was not disappointed. Will be back when I have the time, but wouldn’t be my immediate first choice.

I wanted a really good southern meal and was so delighted to have had this recommended to me. The food was wonderful, flavorful, perfectly prepared and total comfort food. The waitress was warm and welcoming while being very professional and attentive. I loved the open space design of the restaurant. I was there on a busy lunch hour, the place was packed and as folks came in, I was amazed at the number of people they knew at different tables — constant greetings & hugs. The staff knew many of their guests by their first names — so a lot of regulars. It was like sitting in my loving grandmother’s kitchen with family drifting in. I would say that if you are in a hurry, with time constraints this may not be the best choice since the service is relaxed, which I appreciated. This is not an «in and out». I loved the southern hospitality and gracious charm, would go again.

Soul food. Try the Roast Beef or the BBQ chicken. So many sides to choose from. If you like home cooking like your Grandma makes, this is your place. Nothing fancy, just darn good Southern comfort food.

The food in this place is amazingly good. Lots of down home items on the menu made the old fashioned way. Friday is fish day and man, can they fry some fish. Crispy but not greasy. The deserts are delicious. I Peach cobbler like that grandma made. The only reason they don’t get five stars is because service is slow and their hours are limited. But, for food like that, I’ll find the time to go.

Food was really good but service was lackluster. Took 15 minutes to bring me a tea and then my order was lost & they weren’t very busy??? Very loud. I’ll try again as maybe they’re having a bad day.

When it comes to Southern Cuisine I have high standards, you can blame that on my grandmother and her excellent cooking. I have to admit that this was a great lunch experience, the greens were savory and the okra & tomatoes were on point also. I had the roast beef at the recommendation of the server and it was tender and filling. The Key Lime Cake was even good. I certainly would recommend this place for it’s quality and good pricing.

Café 209 has since moved from their previous location near the river. It’s now on 566 Broad Street. They changed location but the food is still just as good as before. I recently had lunch here and had the Fried chicken, rice and gravy, macaroni and cheese, and a cornbread muffin. The food was extremely delicious!!! The food came out piping hot. I could hardly touch the chicken trying to eat it. Everything was cooked to perfection. I have no complaints about the service, food, or location!!!
