Moving here from Arizona, temporarily for the time being, I missed my barn and my horses. I looked into facilities that rented horses for trail riding, some not too far out from mid Denver, some far. Then I stumbled onto Aurora Stables. Havana and Mississippi? Couldn’t be. But yep, there it is, 10850 East Exposition Avenue in Aurora. I met Laura Baker, owner, first. She was working a horse, but after about 10 minutes dismounted and talked to me about what they do. I would not be able to rent a horse to take out trailriding, but I could take lessons(reason for 4, not five stars). Cool, I’ve never had training in hunter/jumper, time to learn something new. The place has been right there since 1947, and they are currently remodelling some of the buildings. The soil is great, good footing. Indoor and outdoor facilities. There are somewhere between 40 and 50 horses boarded, mostly by the horses owners. But there are stable owned horses for lessons. I was then introduced to her neice Reven, who spent time talking with me while getting a horse of hers ready for some work and doing other chores. Very friendly, accomodating what I was looking for(at the moment, just being around horses and giving some face rubs). I’d been there over an hour now and felt I was«old and in the way», but we arranged for a series of Monday lessons. Unfortunately, a car accident has kept me from the lessons for the time being, as well as a necessitated trip back to AZ. I’ve not given up though, Reven, I will be back. Great place if you have kids wanting to learn some equine discipline, or want to learn this as an adult. Lessons are very reasonable in cost, and these are folks not anywhere new to what they do. They love it. And for city folk, it’s not the long drive to Longmont or Parker to get a leg up, to learn and commune with one of natures great gifts… the horse. You can’t just stop by, there is a gate and they are working. But you can call and make an appointment for a look see. And check the web site.
