Being from Philly im usually pretty critical of cheesesteak joints outside the area, but 1776 is a good option in atx. They ship Amaroso’s down to make it legit, which drew me in to give it a try. We got the Thomas Jefferson and the Patrick Henry. Thomas Jefferson was excellent — chicken steak with franks red hot and blue cheese. Patrick Henry is good too, the meat left some flavor to be desired but the roll made it — as it always does. Defintely worth a try, its in a great location at the rear of the Buzzmill.

Freaking yumm! Coming all the way from Illinois and finding a philly place that does it right! 5 stars! I got the regular Philly with cheez wiz and I don’t really like cheez wiz but I got it and I am So glad I did! As far as the garlic fries awesome flavor but too much garlic like actual garlic. I don’t like crunchy things n my food so I wasn’t a fan but other than that I will def eat here again! Thanks cheesesteak co!

The cheesecake wasn’t exactly what I expected coming from a joint called«The Cheesecake Factory», but let me tell you the truth about what happened. I fell in love. There. I said it. I don’t know if I’ll ever see him again, and this review is as much a call for advice as anything. My server, my Saint, my star came to our table and immediately I knew something was different. He introduced himself using his first name(which, cmon ladies, how often does that actually happen??) and stared at me longest. I was alone. I ordered the cheesecake like I said and he asked if I would like anything else and I said well I can’t order a slice of you. Can I. And he twinkle laughed with his twinkly eyes and slowly backed away. I left after eating a few bites of lackluster cake and paid in cash because I do not have a bank account. So, in other words, he cannot track me, which is devastating.

I once spent a weekend in Philadelphia and inexplicably failed to get a cheesesteak while I was there. It was a wasted opportunity that I’ve regretted for almost 5 years. But suddenly, in what could be the most unexpected place in America — here in Austin, TX — I need hold on to that regret no longer. Why? Because I tried the cheesesteak at 1776, and it was so freakin’ good I realized, who needs to go to Philly for the real deal? This sandwich was a long time coming. I’d tried Way South Philly a while back but was unimpressed, and all but gave up on the search in ATX. I’d never even heard of this place — talk about flying under the radar! But on a random first-time excursion to Buzz Mill — which is itself a chill, eccentric joint — the other night, I finally came face-to-face with 1776 on Buzz Mill’s back patio. This place is a food truck, but unlike any others I’ve seen. Its exterior practically camouflages into its wood-themed surroundings, but you can’t miss the red, white, and blue sign. Clearly, Uncle Sam was calling me to eat some meat and cheese. I willingly obliged. Holy crap, this is a mammoth sandwich. A seriously well-spent 10 bucks. It’s served on an Amoroso roll that plays its supporting role to near perfection. And our star attraction, the steak, does not disappoint. Right texture, plenty juicy and solid taste. I got the John Adams, which has grilled onions and mushrooms that make for delicious additions to complement the meat. You can get the classic cheese whiz, but I opted for the provolone. It was a great way to top it off. The owners obviously have the right approach to their craft. Not being from Philly, this is what I imagine authentic must taste like. Their fries are excellent, too, if you’re really hungry. This sandwich was the most pleasant surprise of my week, and wiped away the past sin of my steak-less Philly weekend. A return trip to Buzz Mill and 1776 appears imminent.

WOW!!! I just had a cheese steak delivered with parmesan garlic fries from Grubhub and I must say, THISISTHEBESTCHEESESTEAK I have ever had! Thanks 1776! You guys got every thing right! The parm fries order was HUGE and it has a really creative, delicious flavor. Thumbs up… and they delivered super fast so… FIVESTARS! The steak was flavorful and grilled to perfection. WOW.

They get the bread mostly right. Which is incredibly rare outside of Philly. They get the meat better than right: seasoned version of a regular cheese steak. They don’t try to put peppers on it. Basically it’s good.

This place is authentic. The Ben Franklin wiz wit is very close to a hoagie from Pats. Shout out to Shannon!

As you can see from my tip(the Unilocal one not the one emanating from my pants, you pervs), I love the cheesesteaks at 1776. While I’m definitely not some type of cheesesteak connoisseur, I have tried Jim’s, Geno’s and Pat’s in the past and frankly, if my memory truly serves me correctly(Argentina happened in between so all bets are off), 1776 is far better than all of them. Everyone who loves to speak of authenticity will likely wax poetic about the Amoroso roll, but the really important part is that the steak tastes great and isn’t the greasy dripping disaster that passes for a Philly cheesesteak in nearly every other market in America. You can custom your sandwich as you like, and if you want to sound like you are an asshole from Philly, order«wiz wit»(make sure you de-emphasize the«h» to maximize the asinine hipster effect) as confidently as possible. I’d recommend adding white cheddar to your sandwich, especially if you order the Patrick Henry, because, damn, that was a good sandwich with the extra cheese. Order some garlic fries too because they load them with garlic and the fries are as soft and supple to the touch as a perfect pair of breasts. How good was my meal? I sought out the chef afterward, shook his hand, and thanked him for the best cheesesteak I have eaten in Texas and probably the entire United States. If you haven’t been here yet(seriously, 5 reviews Austin!!!), you have some serious life catching up to do.

Located in puppy central aka The Buzzmill. Cheesesteaks are a late night naughty escapade! I’m friends with many cheesesteak aficionados who are pretty critical(the way i am with tacos) and they all agree this place does it right and I totally agree! Side note: this is a food trailer located outside within The Buzzmill’s lot. Seating is outdoors, limited shade, go at night, hipster casual, lots of beautiful people, dog friendly, beer in walking distance at the buzzmill. limited parking but not hard to find.

Cheesesteak Sandwiches were really good. I had the Liberty Bell and it was quite good. We also had the Parmesan Garlic Fries– very good flavor, just wish they had been crispy — probably would be if we ate them there instead of taking it to go. The service was quick and very friendly. We’ll definitely be back.

Absolute perfection! As a PA native and having lived in Philly for 5 years, I am always on the hunt for a perfect Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak. They hit the nail on the head– the Amoroso roll that is perfectly soft and not too soggy, you would have no idea it was shipped in from Philly. While the onions may seem to overtake the meat a little bit, I don’t mind, however that was their downfall for my boyfriend. So, I suggest ordering light or no onions if this is an issue for you. The amount of Franks is perfect, as the ad goes, I really do put that sh*t on everything, so I am getting that little sting in the back of my cheeks that makes my mouth water as I write this. Paired beautifully with your choice of Ranch or Blue Cheese, I go with the latter, which really rounds out the whole sub. If you’re looking for a taste of Philly, and no not that sad excuse of a chain sandwich shop, I highly suggest heading over to 1776, not to mention it’s in the backyard of one of the best bars in Austin(Buzzmill). Also, tip for all of you vegans– they even have a Vegan cheesesteak option!

Best cheesesteak I’ve ever had. If you’re in Austin and looking for one, make your way here! In buzzmill patio so grab a beer, tea, or coffee and a cheesesteak!
