Just an update, Anne is no longer working there, so now I’m training with Andy and have moved up to big people squats! Hooray!(That is, squatting with the bar, instead of body weight or the Smith machine.) Also, Andy listed me out the problematic muscles that were making my knee hurt, so I could take them to my massage therapist. So far so good. Andy’s new sidekick is Beth, who has more experience than Anne did, so is $ 70/hour.

Andy helped me lose 80 pounds a few years ago(before the new gym). The new space is awesome, and if you’re just looking for a place to do some cardio and weights, then this is the place for you. There’s zero pressure to join, membership is month to month, and the place is really chilled out. You’re supporting a local family business by choosing AFC, and if you’re looking for a no-pressure, highly qualified personal trainer, I suggest you give AFC, and Andy, a try.

I was only a member for a few months because this gym did not have what I wanted. However, per the contract, the owner did quickly cancel my membership upon receiving my certified letter requesting cancellation. I joined Austin Fitness Center because it was convenient and affordable. But with only a few cardio machines, there was very little variety. The nail in the coffin for me was the limited schedule. At least when I was a member in late 2009, they were open for only a few hours on weekends(I think Sundays they closed at 2PM) and they were closed all day every holiday.
