Very disappointed in our food:(. We were excited because we had been wanting to eat here for some time. I ordered the eggs Benedict with soy chorizo. The food would have been tasty but it was cold. And it took forever to come out to us. The side potatoes were old and cold too. I feel bad for complaining so I usually never do. The waiter was super nice and friendly and he did a good job taking care of us, it wasn’t his fault the food was ehhh

Wow. That’s all I can say about my experience here today. Probably the worst service I have ever gotten in my life. I used to wait tables and I am a very generous tipper. Today was the first time in my life that I have left a zero dollar tip because the service was so bad. My waitress was named hope. She needs help. I ordered an iced coffee with cream, which is what I have ordered many times before. It was not on the menu so my assumption was it is the same price as regular coffee and I get refills, like I always have in the past. She brought the ice coffee in a reasonable amount of time but it took her another 5+ minutes to bring the requested cream. So I’m sitting there for at least 10 minutes with nothing to drink. The order took a little longer than usual, but I’m not going to blame her for that. She said it down and walked off. Didn’t check in with me I didn’t ask if I needed anything and certainly didn’t notice that I had about an inch left of coffee in a pint glass. It would’ve been nice to be able to ask her for some extra salsa or sour cream for my quesadilla. But it turns out I was finished before she even came back. I timed it and it took her over 12 minutes to even check on me. 12 minutes! WTF. When she finally came back over I motioned that I wanted more coffee and she said sure do you also want to water and I declined. When she finally brought the coffee, she realized that my plate was empty and offered to make me a coffee to go and I instead asked her for a cup. Turns out that was a good choice. I had that my parking ticket in credit card on the table waiting for her and because I’m pretty trusting I didn’t bother to check the ticket. She brings back the bill with my coffee and forget the cup. She said she would be right back with it. I go to sign the bill and realize it it’s at least double of what it should be and I realize she’s giving me someone else’s ticket along with their credit card. It takes a while to get her attention, again, and I let her know what she did. She goes and exchanges the bill and says«oh sorry, your cards are the same color.» again WTF! I go to send the bill and realize that I have been charged $ 6.50 for my coffee. My third WTF. It is not listed on their menu. I even went online and pulled it up to make sure. And like I said, in the past I have always been charged one charge was unlimited refills. It takes another 10 minutes or so to get her attention and I have to flag down another waiter to get it. Still no to go cup and now I am being charged $ 6.50 and I can’t even take it with me? Hope finally makes it over with the to go cup, a good 20 minutes after I originally asked for it. I questioned her about the coffee charges and tell her need to see a manager. The only good thing is the manager removed one of the charges, but I could tell he was not real interested in what I had to say. On top of all this, there was a table of six people next to me with kids. They left a few minutes after I got my mail and the table set unbiased for at least 45 minutes. It was covered and food from the four kids and they were birds all over the place taking food off the table. I guess they haven’t heard of busing tables or maybe is just one thing that hope is responsible for that she can’t handle. Austin Java, you were my go to place when I was out and about with my dog. You’re now my never go to place.

True to the stereotype of the service industry on a Sunday, especially weak here today. Java, it’s right in the name. Trying to get mine refilled over the course of our two hours on the patio here was futile. The first time, they refilled it with the wrong variety, second time got it right. Never saw the guy again until time for the check. Sometimes, living in this town, it feels like one must continually lower his expectation for basic service.

Don’t get it… was at Austin Java today and the service was good… must be who you get. Also the morning was gorgeous and it was really nice not being rushed. We had breakfast already and took the puppy for some free roaming time at Zilker. Decided to stop in for our caffine fix. It’s awesome they hv dog friendly patio… makes me want to come here often. We had lattes along with house made poptart with berries on top. Latte with sweetness from poptart was a perfect combination. We will definitely be back to try their food menu the next time as it looked really good.

The food is unimpressive, as are the coffee drinks. None of their dairy or produce is organic, and their meat is factory farmed. The only reason why I’m giving it 2 stars is because it’s a good place to work from(lots of seating, pretty good wifi) and their outdoor seating is a nice, dog-friendly option. But, as someone who owns a place across the street, PLEASE invest in better quality produce and humane meat!!! I rarely come here for these reasons, despite the convenient location.

BRUNCHREVIEW: First let me start by saying if you are looking for the parking garage and driving around like I was you want to enter before the building and wind around to the right to pull into the garage. Make sure to bring your ticket in with you because they will validate your parking. It was really busy but, they were able to seat us right away on the patio. I highly recommend ordering the coffee because it wasn’t just good but, it also gave me that kick I needed to start my morning. Our server was really friendly, sweet and on top of it. I ordered the traditional which was two eggs cooked any way and I chose an english muffin and bacon with it. The bacon was browned and crunchy and had that greasy flavor you hope for. I ordered my eggs over medium they were perfect and had that buttery light taste to the egg whites. The english muffin was the perfect dipping tool for the yolks! We were quick to get service and check out and that is nice when you are in a hurry like we were.

I like this place but I don’t LOVE it. I come a lot because its in my neighborhood and convenient and the waitstaff is always really friendly so props for that! But the menu and food is soooooo lackluster and over priced. Their breakfasts are decent although in a recent visit my friend was disgusted by the slimy quality of the hollandaise on the eggs benedict and my tacos were swimming in grease. Before that Id ordered a veggie burger with no bun — odd I know but whenever I order this elsewhere it comes with all the burger toppings: lettuce, tomato, onion, etc. This was just a sad little lukewarm patty slapped on a plate flanked by a handful of flaccid fries. Its a bummer because this is a prime Austin spot and so convenient to visit after a walk around the lake. I think that’s how it stays in business because the over priced under prepared food isn’t doing them any favors. I don’t know why it seems worse at this location but it kinda is.

I have always enjoyed Austin Java and recommended it, until today. Decided to take my wife this morning, as I always do for Valentine’s Day breakfast. But had a terrible experience with our server. She was spaced out, maybe stoned or hung over and miserable. We had to ask her for sugar and creamer a few times because she kept forgetting. She forgot my water. And when I mentioned that we had been waiting for our food for close to 40 minutes, she went back to check on it and seems it had been sitting there for a while. She comes back and says«it wasn’t almost 40 minutes, it was ONLY28 minutes.» 30 minutes is still quite a while to be waiting for food when you are hungry and without her even coming around once in a while to let us know about our food. Not until I asked did she bring it out. We got our food nice and cold. My wife didn’t want me making a big deal of it so we just shut up and ate our cold food and left. The moral of the story? If you want a clueless waitress to keep you waiting 30 minutes for cold food, come to Austin Java.

This is a solid place and all around great dining experience. I went with a friend and was immediately greeted by the bartender when we entered. We sat at a table and a waiter quickly brought us water, food menus, and drink menus. It was our first time visiting, so the waiter told us how the menu worked(breakfast served all day) and gave a few recommendations. The pastrami eggs benedict was excellent!

Putting this up front… This is purely a coffee review! Having moved to Austin from Seattle, the lack of great local coffee places has been a bit hard to get used to. Working and living near Arboretum, there just aren’t any good options I have found. This weekend, while out for a run on Town Lake, I decided to find something better than Starbucks or Whole Food to warm me up after a cold morning run. Someone on the trail told me to give Austin Java a try and I am so glad I listened. Went in to get a coffee to go. Location was pretty empty on a Sunday morning about 9a. They had a drink menu and I noticed a coffee with honey and hazelnut(don’t recall the name). Asked for coconut milk and when my drink arrived and I took my first sip, I swear the heavens opened up and I felt like I was home. Food menu looked great so I wish I had time to stay and try it out. Only downside is there are no locations up north past UT. Would definitely make this my regular stop if they were closer.

Some of the best coffee I have ever had, and I’ve lived in Seattle! I recommend the red eye… If you like espresso. I am working my way through there delectable eggs Benedict selections… Also, they make the best bloody marry in town! This is a fantastic spot for business or pleasure… Oh, and the staff are awesome!

Always been happy with service! Much more than a coffee shop, they have a full bar, beer, wine, great salads, awesome sandwiches, tasty burgers, great appetizers(get the hummus!), AND they serve my favorite meal — breakfast — ALLDAY and NIGHT! Ask for Hope to be your waitress-she’s wonderful!

I stopped by Austin Java with my boyfriend during ACL because we weren’t feeling the overpriced food stands. There’s a sign that says«Wait for the hostess to seat you»(or something like that), so we stood for about 5 minutes waiting for the hostess to seat us as the baristas behind the bar did their thing. Finally, someone behind the bar tells us, «Y’all can seat yourself, you know.» Oh, cool, aight – y’all should probably take down that sign if you’re not going to follow through with it, just to make life easier… for everyone. I ordered an iced honey nut latte and the chicken & waffles. I sat for a while wondering what my iced honey nut latte tasted like – it had a really distinct taste, and I had definitely tasted it somewhere, but it didn’t taste like any other honey nut latte that I’ve ever tried… And then I realized – their coffee tastes like plain olé Starbucks. Okay, a little better, but still. It was missing that crisp espresso taste and the creaminess that comes with adding milk into it, and honestly? Where was the honey? I’m not saying it was bad, but… I could have just gone to Starbucks, and I wouldn’t have noticed the difference. The food was okay. The chicken was crispy with cornflakes(neat taste, btw), but easily lost its crispiness because there was just so much sauce everywhere. By sauce, I mean the very interesting Green Chile Bacon Jam. To this day, I still don’t know how to feel about it – it was just an interesting taste. Didn’t love it. Didn’t hate it. Just wished there wasn’t so damn much of it or at least put it on the side. The coffee maple syrup was A+ though. Austin Java was okay. I guess very typical for a breakfast/lunch/dinner kind of joint but with an Austin vibe. Don’t know if I’ll be back.

Today is Thursday the 5th of November. 2 of my fellow coworkers and I went in to grab some quick lunch from Austin Java and all 3 of us ordered sandwiches. We waited for 45 minutes then had to just cancel the order since it was taking so long. Would have not been a big deal since I’m a very patient person except for the fact there was only 3 other tables occupied in the whole establishment. I’ve gone before and was very pleased but this time I’m very disappointed and will most likely not be returning and telling anyone to go there. Hope this issue gets taken care of for future users of Austin Java.

It shouldn’t take 10 minutes to get a black cup of coffee. Only today I actually had to leave being the front person in line because the barista continued to dawdle and do anything but come take my order. I get that there was a gentleman sitting at the bar, but to ignore the people in the to-go line that were there before he sat down to keep grabbing him random things is ridiculous. Thanks to their disturbing lack of customer service, I didn’t get coffee and I was late to my appointment.

The weather is absolutely beautiful today so we sat out on the patio. I like the laid back atmosphere and the staff are very nice and our waitress was very attentive. The food isn’t the best I’ve ever had, but it’s good — and for the most part, reasonably priced. I would come here more for the relaxing atmosphere than anything else.

Normally, I would say that I love Austin Java. Today however, was not one of those days. They appeared to have not enough staff, and they could not handle the crowd. We had a group of 10 sitting on the patio. From the time we arrived until we were finally served was an hour and a half. My food was cold. And I don’t mean sort of warm, I mean cold. Why did not did I not send it back? Because I knew it would take another hour and the food would probably still not be ready. And frankly, I was hungry. So while I understand that serving a large group can be difficult, especially when you are short handed, the service and food was terrible today. While I understand serving a large group can be difficult, especially on a day when you are short handed, this was worse than I thought. My takeaway: do not go to Austin Java on a holiday weekend. And if you do, then expect the service and food to be sub par.

The food was good; service was AWFUL. We walked in and waited about a minute while the bartender was serving somebody. There was no sign that said ‘Seat Yourself’ or anything. We saw no one else that was working, so figuring it being 11:30 on a weekday, that the bartender might be the host also. He finished with the other customer and looked at us and proceeded to talk to bother customer. We waited about 3 more minutes for him to be done, and still no acknowledgment what-so-ever. Two waitresses appeared behind the bar in the doorway and looked over in our direction and started to laugh. At this point, there was a family behind us. I was about to walk out until my husband just said«let’s go» and proceeded to go up the stairs to the outside seating. At that point we looked at the bartender as we were passing and he mumbled, «sit where you like.» Okay, we will. The family ended up sitting at the table next to us. Normally I’d not be upset about a family getting served before just my husband and I, but considering blatantly waiting first before them, you would think our waitress would come out first. Not so likely. She came out second to our table, put down the menus, and didn’t greet us. She asked what we wanted to drink, and then looked at the menus and said, «oh, our kitchen won’t be open until 11:30. Not sure if that changes your mind.» We said it was fine since there was only 15 minutes to wait. She went to get our drinks, came back and took out order and dropped off the drinks. She didn’t ask if we wanted anything else before she just walked away. She came back about 10 minutes later and told my husband she forgot to ask what sides he wanted. She said, «I was going to give you fruit, but we have…» And told him the options. She did the same thing with what toast he wanted, assuming again. Again she returns, asking if we want our coffee refilled. She pours mine, and says she doesn’t see steam coming out. She tells my husband she’s hesitant to pour his, and asks me to feel my cup to see if it’s hot. It was still warm considering there was still coffee in it. We said it was fine. It wasn’t piping, but it was warm. She returned a few minutes later with the food, which looked pretty good. And tasted pretty good, too. I got the California Club on gluten free bread. The bread was toasted perfectly, and didn’t crumble at all for being GF bread. The turkey and ham with the avocado and tomato and cheese and onion and a side of fries was just wonderful which makes me upset the service was so bad! The waitress did not check on us ONCE while we were eating. Probably a total of 20 – 25 minutes. She came back and I already needed a box. Needless to say, I’d probably never go back to this Austin Java, which is a shame because I live so close and is so nice on the patio.

We went here because they have a dog friendly patio, which was quite nice. I had the Spinach Cobb Salad, which wasn’t bad, but alas the wait person wasn’t very concerned about the service she provided. Even though I had let her know I drain my drink fairly quickly I had to ask a co-worker for a refill, because she was spending most of her time inside. Now if that’s because she had tables inside. All I can say is manager shame on you! If not it was just poor service. Finally, they have garage parking only and you have to have your ticket validated. No big deal, but the waitress should ask when she give you the bill if she can validate the ticket. I mean unless you walked there you need to have your ticket validated. It’s annoying to have to find some one to validate when you’re ready to leave.

Okay. Bear with me because there are few things. 1. Amazing vibe to relax on the patio or indoors to work or have a relaxing mimosa 2. They removed the wifi from othe patio(I was very upset by this, as I like to come to work outside… but hey.) 3. Service outside is atrocious. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t come… you just might have to be more assertive than you’re used to. 4. VERY dog friendly… I’ll come bring my lab and work with my iced coffee for a few hours. Overall, a great place and the foot is pretty great also… I LOVE the Chicken Caesar and the parfait is alright as well.

I’ve had some good and bad moments when I go to Austin Java. The food has been also hit and miss. To me Austin Java was never the same because the food seemed bland. When I have out of town guests come, I usually take them to this location. Sitting at the patio and watching cars go by on a nice day is a treat. Also the few times I go here, there’s ACL, Trail of Lights and the Kite Festival. The service is sometimes good.
