Batch Academy

I attended one of their free ‘HTML & CSS 101′ MeetUp-​based classes. As a veteran software engineer with systems & programming experience but little raw HTML & CSS exposure, I found the class expectedly basic, but still useful for the purpose intended: a first introduction to the underlying technology of the world wide web. There were others of a wide variety of experience levels there and for all but the most basic students, the pace of the class seemed sufficient to keep us engaged while not overwhelming. Of course, this was just a free first taste as a plug for their more extensive, paid 10-​week «Learn to code websites from scratch» offering filled the last 15 minutes of the class. If I needed that degree of expertise, I could see the value in it. I would definitely consider additional free classes, and consider other paid options if they offer subject I could use (Linux sysadmin, network admin, Python programming).

Really informative classes/​meetups and the instructors are encouraging and knowledgable. Overall great if you’re a beginner wanting to learn to code!

The HTML/​CSS was well delivered and very helpful. I hadn’t worked on hand coding websites in more than 10 years so was a bit rusty but as Tyler skillfully led the class it all came back to me. Omar was very attentive to the attendees having trouble with certain concepts as well. I plan to attend the Javascript 101 class shortly and am considering their 10 week course. A+

I attended both the Javascript 101 & HTML/​CSS intro workshops. Both start with a broad conceptual base so you understand what the application for each programming language is and end with hands-​on examples of how to use Javascript and HTML/​CSS so you’re writing real code in the span of an hour and a half. Perfect for true beginners without any previous coding experience. If the intro workshops are any indication, the full courses will be well worth it!

I attended the Javascript 101, and it was an A+ experience. I love that they have a teacher assistant to take care of things like temperature of the room, power outlet availability, etc. The teacher was young but brilliant. He walked through at moderately fast pace, and he had an excellent system of making sure everyone was understanding him (thumbs up, down, or sideways). By the end of the class I had successfully created a Javascript program for determining the tip at a restaurant. Fun stuff! Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants conceptual to practical classes!

Let me tell you, it’s not easy to find software developers who are also top-​notch teachers. These guys are AMAZING. I say that after having dropped out of one of the more expensive, trendy coding schools in Austin. I went to the HTML/​CSS workshop that Batch Academy offers for free and was SO incredibly impressed. I’m an educator myself, and I know that there’s a lot of skill involved in breaking down difficult material into bite-​sized bits, checking for understanding, and providing one-​on-​one help. This all happened. After the class, I spent an hour talking to Omar, who runs the business side. He gave me invaluable advice for how to pursue a career in coding in the Austin area. I whole-​heartedly recommend Batch Academy.
