Cool concept but I haven’t seen it working. For those who don’t know, beer exchange is basically a stock exchange for beers. Prices go up or down based on the demand. We got here on a Saturday night when the exchange was closed, so prices were static. There was a dj but the crowd was light, just like the beer selection. Other than the vanity of trying to see the exchange in action, I probably won’t be a regular.

Such a unique and fun concept to have beer prices resemble the stock market. Prices will always vary depending on what other people in the bar are purchasing. If a hand full of people are buying one specific beer, then that beer price will increase while the others decrease. And through out the night there might be a flash sale, which is mostly related to trying to get rid of their seasonal beer. Overall-its a fun, laid back place you would want to hang with your friends on the week day.

The bar was ok, I was there a couple weekends ago, the door guy a was real douche and made inappropriate comments to my date, I won’t be back

Not as cool as we thought it’d be; There is a beer ticker tape, but besides that, nothing extraordinary. The bartender was taciturn and nothing really convinced us to want to return there in the future. A beer and well drink was $ 9.25 total, which was ok for downtown, but I doubt we’ll go back in the future.

very unique concept where the beer prices scroll across like the NASDAQ. The prices change depending on what’s popular and they give you the day’s high and low. Other than that, the place was only okay. I got a little sick because I kept smelling smoke.

I’m not much of a drinker. So you must wonder why I come here. Every Sunday, they play Texans games on their TV screens. This is the official hangout for Houston Texans fans living in Austin. They have a ticker tape similar to those on Wall Street where they list the drinks and the prices. There isn’t much sitting space — 3 booths and several tables and chairs. The patio is small. The bartenders are cool and friendly.

Brew Exchange is a beer bar with a stock exchange theme — the bar has a ticker that runs across the ceiling of the bar. When someone orders a bar from a beer group(say an IPA), the beers in that category go up in price. Fun concept! And a great, great beer selection! It also has some great outdoor, covered seating!

I am a beer snob and Brew Exchange has never disappointed. Every beer they carry is legit and they keep the kegs fresh. The«exchange» concept is in the top 3 coolest ideas for a bar I’ve ever seen. Also, If you have an annoying friend that loves to argue nonsense economic opinions, take them there and by their 3rd beer they will finally understand the basic principles of Econ. Happy drinking Austinites!

Great beer selection and a fun concept. Loved the IPA selection. I recommend the Deschutes Fresh Squeezed. The stock ticker with the current beer prices is something I have never seen before, which made the place all the more unique

I love coming to this place when i do not want to be stuck in traffic or right before hitting 6th street on the weekends. I also like showing this place to my friends. This place is really clean, big and has a never ending variety of beer selections that changes often. I really miss the Double Chocolate Stout they had before. Anyways, you can also use TabbedOut to open & close the tab, I usually use it when packed. Easy IN&OUT!

Interesting concept. They have their beers on a ticker. And it shows you if the prices of their beers change. Pretty cute. Staff was nice, bathrooms were nice. Music was good.

Enjoyable but always seems loud no matter the population. I don’t think I’ve been there at a time any beer has been under $ 5. Service has always been great though.

Thursday night, this place was a little more happening than the previous bar… a few folks clearly having a great time dancing and being our enjoyment. All of the bars I have been to in Austin seem to have major potential for good energy and social space if filled with more patrons. The bartenders were great — one lady from Canada showed me how to do a hand hug. I thought it was pretty cool and I will pass it along lol. I enjoyed the ticker symbols and streaming stock exchange banner with drinks on sale! Clever given the name of the bar. Not too much to say considering we made it to this location fairly late(only time for one drink) and it was a quiet night for the town. Some of the under bar hooks were broken to hang jackets and purses, and of course that was the case where I was sitting. They did have them though — which is always a nice treat to have in a bar these days.

I was there for the Bashh networking event and it’s a great place to hold an event. There were a lot of people but still lots of space to move around(contrary to other events I’ve been to). I love this concept of the Brew Exchange being like the stock exchange. Basically the more popular a beer is the more the price goes up for the next person who orders it. And the least popular the beer, the lower the price. Brilliant. I’ll have to try their beer next time… I actually had a sweet and sour that I was in the mood for. :)

Weird that I haven’t reviewed this place yet. I always enjoy a trip to Brew Exchange. The whole idea of stock market beer is really fun, and they have a great selection on tap. The bartenders are happy to offer suggestions and samples, so I’ve never had a bad beer there. They also do pickle shots, which is kind of tacky, but whatever, I guess I’m tacky. For happy hour and during the day, it’s not too loud or crowded, and you can probably get a seat on the patio. If you go later at night on the weekends, then they crank up the music, have a DJ, people are dancing and having a good time. You can choose your own adventure. Buy low. Drink up. Love that line.

I dig this place because of it’s patio, where I can hang out with my pups, even if it’s raining! I also love beer. The daily Red Arrow Special is always something interesting and cheep! The announce what it is on Facebook so you can see before you head out for the night(or afternoon). The inside can get really loud and the beer can be a bit pricey if you aren’t a smart shopper. It’s fun place to bring out of towners and to watch the parade of people on 6th go by.

I don’t want to use the word concept because so many people have used it in their review of this place. Wait I just did… This place is a great IDEA. Brew Exchange provides you an opportunity to have some drinks with friends, have fun catching a deal, try new beers and meet some new people. Came here on a Saturday night and it was filled with a good crowd. Sleek looking bar and friendly bartenders. The way it works is they classify beers by their types.(Lagers, Pilsners, White Ales, etc) They have several in each category. If one beer in particular keeps getting purchased the price of it will rise, while the other beers in that category will fall. The gimmick isn’t the coolest and really isn’t doing much, but it was an above average crowd and we had a good time. Check it out.

Great concept. The prices of the beer changes like the stock market. You can watch the screen and see the current prices of the beer. They have a great selection of craft beer. I ended up with their local recommendation as I usually drink local beer when I travel. Music can be very loud and hard to carry on a conversation here.

Wait, I haven’t written a review of Brew Exchange yet? This is actually one of my favorite bars, even though I don’t typically go to bars just to drink. And that is the brilliant part about Brew Exchange, you don’t go there just to drink, you go and buy beers on a beer stock market. I have to admit, I like the excitement of playing the beer market and, as someone who doesn’t typically like the the same things as other people, the Brew Exchange usually works in my favor and I can get some of my favorite beers for $ 3 while other people are paying $ 8. It is pretty sweet. So I have some friends who go and don’t like to play the exchange and just order what the want, but what’s the fun in that? I like the bar itself a lot, especially that the patio adjoins to the main bar with a big open space, rather than having the patio separate from the rest of the space. Also, purse hooks galore! And, really nice clean bathrooms with drink holders in the stalls. AND a full length mirror in the bathroom. It really is so simple to make a bar girl-friendly, it is a wonder more places aren’t with it. I wouldn’t suggest getting anything other than beer here or if you’re getting a mixed drink, get something simple. They have a whole list of «Specialty Cocktails» but the French 77 I got today was more lemon than gin and was pretty foul and at $ 9(not sure if that is normal price or SXSW price), totally not worth it. Also, when it is crowded, this place kind of sucks, but when it is moderately full, it is fine. I have been here a few times when super packed(SXSW, BASHH, and 2012 Election Night) and because of the layout, it is hard to get from one end of the bar to the bathroom to back where you were hanging out. Sometimes they have free burgers here, like on a Sunday when a game is on maybe, but otherwise no food to be had. Way too close to Hut’s though and often cannot help but go over and grab a burger after lots of Brew Exchange excitement…

Brew Exchange = Stock Exchange = a neat idea that I have yet to come across through my multiple state bar experiences. The game is to try as many of their beers, aka«explore the market», at cheap prices. Each time someone orders a beer, the price goes up for the next person who orders the same beer so make sure you beat your friends to the bar.. You can keep up with the rise and fall of prices by viewing the«stock ticker» above the bar and on several flat screen TV’s throughout the bar. Brew Exchange has a wide variety of beers on tap and bottled to try and it can be very overwhelming to pick which beverage you would like to try. The bartenders are very friendly and will give you a taste sample if they find you to be standing with your mouth open, starring at the ticker for too long… or so that what I’ve been told ;) We came here on a Thursday and the place was pretty empty, but they did have DJ who acknowledge my request to play«Jump on it» by the Sugarhill Gang, yes! There are plenty of stools along the bar and about five separate booths to choose from for seating. Oh, also, when the bartenders ring a bell, it means the stock market has crashed and all the beers have gone to their lowest prices of the day, so that’s when you want to drink up! Fun times, great idea, check it out!
