Best. Cake. In. Texas. My boyfriend and I are addicted to Celeste’s Best’s carrot cake. We fiendishly chase it around town –when one coffee shop is out of it and we need a fix, we go to another trying to find it. If no one has it, we can always rely on Celeste’s cookie dough. It’s impossible for me to keep it in stock, so luckily Wheatsville always does. Oh yeah! She bakes special orders! Did you know?! I ordered a carrot cake for my fella’s birthday and Celeste answered all of my e-mails promptly and even dropped it off at my work herself. My only complaint is that you can’t always find her stuff, because it’s too well-loved. I hope she opens her own trailer or at least expands to selling more baked goods in more places, because she has some kind of mystical dominion over sugar and flour.

Celeste’s treats are in almost every coffee shop in Austin. Those addictive vegan peanut butter cups? Yup, hers. That incredibly moist vegan carrot cake? You got it. For real — I could eat a dozen of those peanut butter cups. The chocolate is dark and creamy and the peanut butter is fresh. Damn.

Celeste’s Best has apparently been around for 10 years and going, yet no one has decided to make the extra effort to write a little blurb on this local Austin vegan baking institution. I feel like they often get their label pushed to the back, as many coffee shops and the like default to Quack’s. Am I wrong? Celeste’s sticks to a simple mantra of vegan. No gluten-free, you dorks. Just simple, no meat-product goods that happen to come via pathway of mixing and baking in the oven. Then, the products make their way over to consumers through an establishment at which you gather caffeinated beverages. They are also in talk of ready-go dough. Cookie dough, that is. They also crank out goods such as banana nut bread and their best-selling carrot pumpkin cake with«cream cheese» frosting. I have no idea what«cream cheese» is, but it was a touch on the crusty side, though I enjoyed the sweetness level. The cake itself was a little touch, but I guess that can happen without the likes of unborn chickens, right? I hope that claim was correct, all you baking fanatics. Check out the«where to buy» on the website if this post has intrigued you. I am not much for vegan goods, but I figured it was a shot. And you should, too.
