The food at this place was amazing and so was the service. Am kinda shocked to know they closed down.

Hoping this is a temporary thing, but there’s been a sign on the door for a few days saying Chapli closed! Older restaurants closes and new restaurant takes its place, the circle of restaurant life. Chapli closed? Chapli missed!

Amazing curries. Get max spice because it means more goodness not hot spice(which can be good too). I keep trying to explore the menu but every time I go I cave in and get Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan because it’s so damn delicious. It amazes me how empty this place every time I go; not enough of an appreciation of legit ethnic food in Austin.

I was excited to try a new Middle Eastern place in North Austin, and stopped by for lunch. The décor was rather spartan, but clean. Ordered their specialty chapli kabab, served with salad. It tasted a bit salty, and the portions were modest. At $ 12.99, it was expensive for what you got. Perhaps I might try again once they open a lunch buffet.

I was a bit worried to see an Indian place have kababs in the name but in the end, was very pleased with the meal and the service. Came in on a week day around 12:30 and the place was 100% empty. There was one guy who sat and served our 6 person group. During our time there, only one other person came in and ordered a meal togo. We ordered chicken tikka masala, Palak-paneer, and garlic naan. All the items tasted great, had a good kick and decently sized plates. The side of naan comes with two large slices cut into 4 and can be easily shared. Overall, great place with good prices on Indian food.

Food is delicious, no doubt! Goat is tough though… We had the goat karahi, goat biryani, garlic naan, mango lassi and chicken tikka. I love Indian/Pakistani food a lot. The taste of their food did not disappoint. lassi was warm though but still the drink was good. I’m giving them one star because when my husband and I got home, we had stomach aches. We might have gotten bad/spoiled food from them…

The Chapli kebab is the yummiest patty in town! Order it with Naan and a side salad, build your own burger. The food is a bit too oily(the Bolani for example) and calorie laden, but worth it! Chicken tikka masala doesn’t have the flavors I expect but I’ll be back to try the Biriyani. I am sad to see this place mostly empty though!

I too, tried the boboli appetizer. Super. Freaking. Good! We also got butter chicken and lamb kabobs. Lamb was a little dry — as lamb tends to do… but it was tasty. Butter chicken was not like most I’ve had before but I enjoyed it as well. Great naan. I will try this place out again. I want to like it bc I love mom and pop places. The owner was really nice, too.

Chapli kabab — The signature recipe was awesome, must try dish at restaurant. Chicken Biryani was really delicious. Quantity was enough for two people. This place has a nice interior and has enough sitting capacity which is suitable for groups. A vegetarian dish like Veg Kadhai was really good. Butter chicken is also worth trying :) Service is really fast; I had an awesome food after long time. Thanks to the earlier visitors and their recommendations !!!

We were looking for a new place to eat for date night and decided to take a chance. I’m glad we did. I haven’t had Afghan/Pakistani in a very long time and it was so amazing. First, no matter what you order, you MUST get the Naan Roll appetizer. It’s absolutely wonderful. The flavor was incredible and I can’t believe the portion you get for such a low price. I ended up ordering Goat Biryani and ordered it *super* spicy. For the first time in my life, the waiter took me seriously and brought back a face melting flavor explosion. I eat ghost peppers like they are celery and the heat they put in this dish was enough to make my eyes water. The flavor was intense and very well balanced. The goat meat was fantastic. We also ordered Palak Paneer which was very well made. The spinach flavor was still there and wasn’t overwhelmed by the rest of the herbs. Our waiter was very polite and had a very gentle manner. I believe we spoke to the owner too who was very kind. We will definitely come back here. Food made the way you want it, excellent flavor, wonderful people, and portions that are huge for the price.

I went here because of my cabbie who treated me with Pakistani food! We ordered chicken tikka masala, Palak-paneer, garlic naan and chapli kebab! All of it were so flavorful and rich! Their chai was good too. My only suggestion is having some bollywood/ethnic music to add more to the vibe. Great owner who checks in with everyone about how they liked it. Definitely will keep coming back whenever in Austin!

An eclectic selection of dishes from Afghanistan, Pakistan & India. The namesake kababs were awesome. Service was quick & friendly. Lots of variety and flavor. A great place for a serene, soothing meal.

Get the bolani! Before you even open the menu just go ahead and order this delicious appetizer– you can thank me later. It is so flavorful and soft. The spicy cilantro sauce comments it well. We also got the chicken tikka masal, lamb korma, and lamb plate a la carte. Their lamb dishes are amazing. Packed with flavor and not chewy at all. I like that their curries are flavorful but not greasy and I didn’t have to pop ten tums after our meal. Excellent and fast service. The owner was very nice. The restaraunt had a great ambience with some beautiful lanterns hanging from the ceilings. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu!

When I lived in Northern Virginia, I didn’t realize that I lived in one of the highest concentrations of Afghan people in the United States. There were many Afghan restaurants to choose from, and Afghan cuisine quickly became my favorite. Upon moving to Austin, Texas I was saddened that there was no Afghan food available. That limitation of Austin is now over, with the opening of Chapli Kababs n Curries in mid-2014. Currently the menu showcases dishes from the greater region, including India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. For starters, the Bolani — flat bread stuffed with potato, onion, and tomato just melts in your mouth, after being dipped in hot sauce. The Kabuli Pulao, the national dish of Afghanistan, was stellar, consisting of lamb shank under a huge pile of basmati rice with grated carrots and fried raisins. The Goat Karahi, a spicy goat stew, was superb.(Where else can you find three different goat dishes on the menu?!!) In addition, the Lassi yogurt beverage was the perfect complement to spicy food. Finishing off the meal with Pistachio Flan was a great way to clean the palate. A nice touch was the gentle sound of rabab music in the background. The owner of the restaurant plans to keep expanding the menu with more Afghan offerings, including Ashak dumplings, Kadu Buranee(pumpkin stew), and Korma e-seib(apple and walnut stew). When those dishes are added to the menu, I’m likely to become an even more frequent diner at Chapli Kababs n Curries!

Unexpected awesome find that is in one of those buildings where others have tried to succeed yet failed. I was headed to Ka-Prow and when I saw this place I checked it out on Unilocal and knew I could not leave the area without checking it out. Besides, I already know that Ka-Prow is excellent. I got the Chicken Biryani and the Chapli Kabab ala carte. I assumed Naan would be a given addition. Not so. My Biryani came out first. A huge plate of the most delicious blend of rice, yogart, saffron, and herbs with pieces of tender, juicy chicken nicely hidden throughout. That Chicken Biryani was some of the best I’ve ever had. Seriously. The Chapli Kabab was another delicious win. Nice sized beef patty(lamb would have been better) well seasoned with a grilled tomato blended into the top. I really would have enjoyed this better with lamb. For nine bucks, I thought it was a bit pricey. Both dishes cost me around $ 21 total, but, I had enough left overs for another meal. Score!!! My waiter was friendly enough. I wish I’d have chatted him up more so that I could’ve gotten the skinny on the place. I did chat up the couple next to me who were Indian. They are the ones who told me that you have to ask for the naan. They were also quick to point out that Chapli is about as authentic as you’re going to get for this sort of ethnic cuisine. I do believe them, because the seasoning was as close to perfect as you’re gonna get. I ate a lot at a Pakistani place in Dallas this summer, and, this place was every bit as good if not better. The only weakness being the limited menu and limited lamb options. I really liked the food and can’t wait to return and try more from their limited menu. I wish Unilocalers would mention those little things like«you have to ask for naan» in their tips. Another thing that irked me was my napkin was too small. I tend to sweat a lot and suffer runny nose syndrome(RNS) when I eat this kinda food. I hope these guys last. Lots of potential. Bring in more lamb options. Just sayin’. Went back again and this time I made a point to chat up my server. He is co-owner Sy(Sigh). Very pleasant Pakistani gentleman. They have switched several of their lamb dishes to beef. The menus aren’t updated at this time. The food here is crazy good, and, the portions rock! Great bang for the buck. The Naan is by request, and, my garlic cost $ 2. It was well worth it. This place is solid. Let them know that you don’t want your food Americanized. Get it the traditional way. If you are a spice wimp go for the Americanized version, but, it will take away from the overall flavor. Check out my pics, you’ll see where I’m dancing on this menu.

a big pet peeve of mine is not serving what is on your menu. Change the dang menu, folks. It starts the meal off wrong and does not inspire confidence. They don’t serve paratha bread, which i was excited about. Also, some of the dishes that say they are made of lamb are now made with beef. The food we had, a roasted leg of lamb with rice, was good! the naan was some of the worst I’ve had. The chai was good enough… Then we ordered a coffee panna cotta and they served us mango. When we said we didn’t get the right thing, they basically did nothing. Good luck, folks!

Good Pakistani and Afghani food. Brand new place with very friendly staff. Hopefully they will expand their menu soon to feature more specialties from this rare cuisine. If you love spicy heat, then go and enjoy.

This place was good — don’t get me wrong — but I was expecting a lot more given how overwhelmingly positive the reviews were. I will also add a disclaimer that, while I am quite familiar with Indian cuisine, Pakistani and Afghan food are not my forte. Anyway, because I am rather familiar with Indian food, my boyfriend and I decided to try something different. We started with the Bolani(think: samosa filling in a thick paratha wrap) which was actually quite good. I liked the variation, though I wish it had come with a sauce like samosas do(again not sure if that’s common practice). For the main dishes we got the Chicken Karahi and the Lamb Boti Kabab. When the portions came out they looked huge — with our appetizer on the table, it was completely filled! Turns out it wasn’t actually all that much food though — just a lot of rice. We were able to finish all of the main course dishes without any leftovers which is not much considering the whole meal was more than $ 30. The Lamb Boti Kabab was okay — some pieces were good, others were too dry for my liking. The Karahi meat and curry were good but again there wasn’t much meat in the dish in the first place. Also the curry got progressively spicier as we got towards the bottom of the bowl — almost like it heard us say that the dish wasn’t all that spicy and decided to retaliate! :) We also got the garlic naan which was delicious — but then again when it restaurant naan not delicious! The staff was friendly — a bonus considering we went rather close to closing time. Overall, good food but I didn’t love any of it enough to come back for that price.

Best Indian food ever and they have non-vegetarian dishes! The veggie samosas are amazing. Butter chicken and palak chicken are delicious. Great naan. This is my go to Indian restaurant for take-out or dining in, but I look forward to trying the Afghani dishes also. Try it, you won’t be disappointed :-D

The chicken tika masala was excellent, a rich thick sauce made from tomato and cream and spicy goodness… and tender chicken… can you tell this is one of my favorite dishes?! The garlic nan was very good, but it was just slightly overcooked. My wife enjoyed the chicken kabab, the chicken wasn’t quite as tender as my dish. This restaurant serves food from India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. we ordered from the Indian side because that’s our favorite and we’re more familiar with it, next time we’ll try another cuisine.
