Amazing salsa and breakfast tacos. Takes about 5 minutes. Not long at all. Made to order takes time. Huge portions! 3 tacos for 4 bucks is a no brainier.

Hilariously, a taco truck is a rare enough thing in Hyde. Thankfully the tacos here are good and fresh. The guys in the truck are salty and not exactly personable. Doesn’t really matter though, it’s a taco from a truck — you’re not looking for world class customer service. It’s reliably very fresh and very good. They’re big tacos, overflowing with made to order ingredients. You’re gonna have to wait though. Sometimes 20 – 25 minutes. There is shaded seating but if you’re in a hurry, just go elsewhere.

I’m glad I ignored the mediocre reviews. Their breakfast tacos are great– they are pretty big, very fresh and, best of all, they have my favorite kind of verde sauce, the sort of creamy and spicy kind. Best of all they are inexpensive and fast. Definitely go here!

The wait at Jiffy Lube was long so decided to try this taco stand that opened across the street a couple of months back. I live a few blocks from here so I notice new things come up and a food cart in North Campus /Hyde Park is pretty rare. The food is really quite cheap($ 1.50 breakfast tacos, $ 2 lunch tacos, and a few things such as quesadillas a little bit more but all less than $ 4). I ordered a chicken fajita taco($ 2) and a potato breakfast taco($ 1.50) with the 50 cent cent tip came out to just $ 4. Both tacos were on flour and I opted to get lettuce and tomatoes on the chicken taco. The chicken fajita taco and salsa were mediocre pretty mediocre. The chicken didn’t taste that fresh although the tortilla and vegetables were fresh. The included salsa, one a green sauce and one a red sauce were also not particularly flavorful although both were spicy, even for someone that indulges in spicy food pretty regularly. However, the breakfast potato taco was excellent. The potatoes and cheese tasted fresh and the tortilla had the same fluffy, chewy quality of the one used in the chicken fajita taco. Luckily for me, these breakfast tacos are served all day. I definitely recommend stopping by, especially if you live in the area, are looking for cheap eats, or like Mexican food. Also please note unlike some of the food carts(although like most of them), this place is cash only but it should be easy to scrounge up some cash for this place given its price.

Chicanas has set up shop on 38th and Guadalupe, and it is very distinguishable, what with its plain white cart and bright yellow sign. Plus, there is not much in the way of food carts in this neck of the woods. The menu is simple, boasting meat-laden tacos during lunch and breakfast tacos all the day long. Chicanas was not all that bad, but I just felt like it incited somewhat of a perversion of the homemade appeal of getting a nitty-gritty taco off of a mobile eatery. To explain, I must go deep into the truck. I looked into the truck and saw Hill Country Fare(for those who know HEB, you will quickly recognize this as the«house» brand) refried beans. First red flag: canned refried beans. The other mark of mediocrity was the microwave. My tortillas were microwaved, when I at least would have preferred some toasting on a skillet. Alas, I can’t have it all… The taco-based grub is pretty good here, but if you are around this part of town thirsting for some quality(though maybe not authentic) fare, you may just want to head over to the haunt in proximity to 42nd and Lamar. This joint is not specifically desirable, though you could eat here if you wanted to avoid paying a pretty penny.

Chicken fajita taco was quite good and the salsas were great. My lunch partner got chorizo and pastor and enjoyed them. Got a breakfast taco and both the potato and the bacon were on the raw side and disappointing. This place does not sell drinks whatsoever and the gas station next door has overpriced drinks so cruise over to natural grocers first.

The food here was great, with one exception; I definitely plan to return. I ordered three tacos: chorizo and egg($ 1.50), chicken fajita($ 2), and pastor taco($ 2). You’re given a choice of flour or corn tortilla. The chorizo and egg was great. I was pleasantly surprised that cheese was included. The egg was fluffy and there was just the right amount of chorizo to add flavor but not make it too greasy. I order this with a flour tortilla and it had clearly been heated/cooked as well. It tasted fresh made, but I can’t be sure. Very delicious. The chicken and pastor tacos were prepared in authentic Mexican street style: small pieces of meat with only cilantro, onions, and an optional spicy salsa. The chicken was flavorful and moist. The pastor seemed a little overcooked and lacking deep flavor; it didn’t seem much like the stewed pastor I’m used to, so it’s possible there was a mistake and I got the wrong taco. Regardless of what it was, there wasn’t enough flavor for me to want to order another in the future. The woman in the trailer was nice and I thought the food overall was great for the price. I definitely plan to come back to try more. If I remember right, they also serve gorditas and tortas, so I’ll have to try them as well.
