I hate doing this because they were extremely nice to us, but the food was very disappointing. I had a gut feeling not to order the tacos al pastor, but what did I do? I ordered them anyway… What I got was grease with a side of tortilla and fatty chicken(see picture). Then I had a WTF moment when I saw that they were served on a flour tortilla with CHEESE and pico de gallo… yes that’s right. Back to the show: I tried some of their Southwestern burger. The famous hatch chile drizze had a good spice to it, but unfortunalety that was about the only thing special about it. The patty itself lacked flavor. I think I should have gotten drunk at Crowbar before trying their food– I may have enjoyed it better.

This place is very cute, their food is sooooo full of flavor, I live in houston, but I crave anything with their green chili sauce! The owners are the most friendly people you’ll meet, and their prices are very very reasonable. If you haven’t been here, you need to pay them a visit and try it out for yourself! =)

This place is cute, the owners are cute, and well the menu is… cute and limited. My friends and I were walking along the 1st street trailers and walked up to see what this one was all about, the menu is very limited, and when we were there they had pretty much run out of everything except the green chile burger and fries. The burger was good, but I can’t say that I’ve tried many burgers from a trailer so I don’t have much to compare it to. It was flavorful and the chiles just added to that, the fries were also good, I want to go back to try the green chile fries hopefully if they don’t run out. For my drink I tried their special tea, interesting flavor, a bit fruity and somewhat sweetened. I really really wish they still served what they have listed on their online menu, so don’t look at the online menu before you go here it’s not very helpful.

Be aware: the hours and menu on the website and the Facebook page do not agree with one another or with reality. Just call before going to make sure they’re open. And don’t study the menu online and decide you can’t wait to try the spinach enchiladas, with sweet tater tots and onion rings on the side, because they don’t have them anymore. They do have a pretty limited menu(even more limited than the one online). But the food is pretty good. I had the green chile burger, at the owner’s recommendation, and it had a nice char flavor to it, without being overcooked. The bun wasn’t quite sturdy enough for the burger, but I liked the chile flavor. The bf had the veggie tacos and added chicken to them at home. They were not all that interesting. The fries were pretty darned good, however. The owner felt bad that we had our heart set on menu items they no longer offered, so gave me some chips and salsa there, and some more to take home. The salsa was pretty darned good. And she was very nice. I do wish they had a few more menu items to choose from, however. But I do understand why they don’t. Hopefully they’ll get the website thing worked out though — that was pretty frustrating.

YES! Diner on Wheels has allowed me many firsts, on 1st street(pun, hehe): 1st to review, 1st time to eat New Mexican flavors from a trailer, and 1st time I have ever squirted chicken juice in my nose. For these firsts, I am thankful. I did wish that they did not run out of their best-seller green chile stew. Diners on Wheels does what most trailers find a way to do in some fashion or another: offer unique trailer food. The specialties gear toward spicy flavors and green chiles. The food is amazingly cheap, and the flavors are great, but the textures could use some tweaking. The green chile-cheese turkey slider was not bad. They must form these patties by hand because my turkey had nice herbs mixed in, and it was the size of a slider… I do not know of any manufacturers that spit out 3 oz. portions of herb ground turkey. The American cheese and zippy green chiles gave it a definite New Mexican flare; sadly, the meat was slightly dry, and the bun was very stale. The sweet potato tots(if they were homemade, woohoo! – I could not tell) were unique, but they were bland and lukewarm. They could have used salt and some extra frying. The chicken wings were really juicy, and as mentioned before, I bit into one right out of the fire, and my nose started burning. Yes, the juice was hot, but it was also a testament to the fiery rub they put on the wings. The wings were alright, but nothing special. Go check out DoW if you are one of those trailer hounds. The menu has some pretty cool stuff, but I need to go back to try some of their green chile stew.
