Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Sad to see these poor reviews, so let me share my experience with this place.
After a rough time at the other south lamar location (319 S Lamar — uhh, don’t go there), which no longer had any cars, I went online on my phone and booked a reservation at this place. It was on really short notice, just 2.5 hours in advance so I called 30min before my reservation time just to make sure they actually had a car for me.
Got there and I was on the road in 5 minutes! The guys there were all courteous, and the one that helped me was especially friendly & professional. The car was shiny and spotless inside and out, and a lot better than I expected for my «economy» booking.

Called and reserved a car which we we told was available. Got to the place and there are no cars available. We were told that «National office will reserve cats no matter what… even if there ate no cats available». We were told when we reserved the car the agent confirmed that there was an available car at this site. We are baffled as to how a «business» us run in such a manner. Does us no good to make a trip out to the office expecting to pick up a rental only to be told that they have nothing available, but «you’re the first person on the list as soon as something comes in». WTF why are you selling something which you don’t have and making people run around town when obviously they ate having car trouble in the first place and hence needing a rental. Avoid this company if this is how they think a company should be run.

If I could give zero stars I would. I picked up a car yesterday since my vehicle is in the shop. The interior did not look like it had been cleaned. This morning, the car wouldn’t start. The battery was dead. I call enterprise, and they tell me to jump the car and bring it back. I lose an hour of work dealing with the issue and get the car jumped. I go to work and bring the car back during lunch to get a replacement vehicle, only to have Enterprise tell me they didn’t reserve a new car for me and that all the cars are booked. I’m now stuck with a car that I’m afraid will die again while I wait for my car to be repaired. At no time does Enterprise offer to drive to me with a new car and take their p.o.s. With them. Truly awful service.

They got me a decent rental car on short order, but then, 3 hours later, I didn’t need it anymore, yet they cheerfully accepted the return and did not charge me much. Very friendly service with a smile.

As usual S. Lamar Enterprise came thru with great service and friendly staff. They got me going quickly and were easy to work with finding me the right car.

I rented a car for a month. 1 day before my totaled car was finished at the shop, Enterprise told me I had to return the car and get it swapped.
When I swapped it, there was no walk-through…but hey, I’m pretty easy-​going, so whatevs.
That night, it hailed, in NORTH AUSTIN.
I live in South Austin.
The next day, I returned the car I had in my possession for one day. It was raining. The lady said, «wait! we need to do a walk through of your car.»
Sure not a prob, I only had the car for ONE DAY.
You have «hail damage,» she said, as she ran her hand across the hood in the RAIN. Huh? I don’t see anything. I felt the hood, too. Nothing.
Um, it never hailed down here.
«See? It’s right here!» as she ran her hand across a smooth hood on a car that I barely had for 24 hours.
wow. total scammers. they charged my insurance company, which made me mad… Enterprise Rent-​A-​Car will get what’s coming.
I’ve been telling everyone I know about this…

Is there such thing as a «good» rental car company? Let me know if you know of one, and I’ll be sure to use them next time.
Enterprise has an office at my body shop, otherwise I’m not sure they’d get any business. I had a reservation 3 days in advance for 7:30am. I was their first customer of the day and showed up with all necessary paperwork and identification (at least what they told me via voicemail to bring). They asked what car I wanted and tried their best to sell me on a car that would far exceed my insurance allowance. I told them I didn’t want to pay anything beyond the $ 30 per day covered by insurance and declined their extended coverage. So they called (at 8am) to see what car they could get – I assumed having a reservation meant they’d have a car ready to go. It finally arrived, and was dirty from the last customer. So they had their guy go clean it while I waited. They didn’t want to take my Mastercard debit card, so I had to get online on their computer and login to a few utility accounts to print statements showing my address and a pay stub. I love being a paying customer and feeling like they’re somehow doing me a favor by renting me the car. I guess it’s the attitude of entitlement that bothers me. So anyhew, I’m in my ultra sub-​compact and ready to roll and hour after arriving.

Great customer service! Got Dodge Charger that the guy (forgot his name) reserved for us at the price we saw on the website even though it was a little more in person apparently. No damage, 5700 miles and great price! Will rent from again in the future!

They have never been great on service, but the last two times have sealed the deal — never renting from these guys again.
Mr. J.‘s and I have been Enterprise renters for well over a decade because he’s a contractor who often works out of town. Usually we rent right off the airport location, but it works out to be cheaper to rent from another location (as with many rental companies)
We rented a Hyundai Sonata for a 3 week period in February. After having the car for about a week, they asked him to bring the car back in because they had sold the car. Inconvenient, but OK, whatever. Mr J brought the car back in and they exchanged it for an identical make/​model. They didnt offer him a discount or perk or any sort, but Mr J is pretty laid back. Got the exchange and went on his way.
A week later, Enterprise called us again. They sold THAT car and wanted him to bring it in. He thought there was a mistake, because, you see, this had just happened. Nope — they sold a second car during his contract and they wanted him to bring it in during their business hours to exchange it. Again, no offer of an upgrade, no discount, nothing. They DID have the nerve to ask him if he filled up the tank though.
So…2 weeks later Mr J and I return to Austin and this time just ask for a rental from the «standard» pool which is one step up from the economy class.
Now the last few times we’ve rented cars from Enterprise, one of the cars they tried to pawn off was a HUGE discount on a car called the Pontiac Vibe. It was in the economy class. Apparently on S Lamar at least it’s the standard class. I’ll admit to not being too picky about cars, but found the Vibe awkward to drive and so did Mr J, but that wasnt Enterprise’s fault, but the car did suck. anyhooo…
On Friday afternoon, we were a driving and the Vibe got a flat. We called Enterprise who said take it to a Firestone-​you realize we are from out of town and might need a bit more assistance, right? So we finally got some directions and took it to Firestone who told us — approx 40 minutes. We got some Mexican food next door and came back about an hour later… to a car that was still just sitting there.
Firestone called Enterprise and Enterprise didnt want just any old tire on the glamorous Vibe — oh no, they had to put a special tire THEY supplied on the car. The travel back and forth for this all important tire made the total time wasted out of our day about 2 hours. Nice.
Again, I dont blame them for the lame car or the flat tire, things happen.
Poor customer service makes it worth spending the extra few bucks to rent at the airport or to go back to the slightly less convenient location on S Congress.

The Enterprise on S. Lamar showed up at the body shop when I was only supposed to get a quote. They are slick. I told them I didn’t need a car yet, but they and the body shop insisted. A month later, insurance told me I picked the car up too early and they wouldn’t cover the extra days. Enterprise later billed my credit card for the extra time. I had told them I didnt’ need the car yet, but they had been insistent that «this is the way it works!» Then, when I was picking up my car from the body shop, my CD’s were still in the rental car and they drove away before I got a chance to thoroughly check the car out. I called later, and they swear they never saw them! (I talked to Patrick). About 40 CD’s! Later, I wrote to the President’s office of Enterprise and an executive secretary called me. Soon after, this Enterprise office called me… Guess what? They found my CD’s! 3 weeks later and only after they get a call from their executive office. Ironic.
