I love coming to Garbo! The staff is very friendly and the environment is calm, relaxing, and welcoming. Jasmine is an artist! I’m always very satisfied and happy with her work. I’ve given her the most vague descriptions of what I want my hair to look like and she knows exactly what I want and delivers!!!

I have been going to Garbo since moving back to Austin over a year ago. Since my first appointment, I have not strayed. All they care about is making the client happy. The atmosphere is relaxed, and they never, ever push you to purchase products. All stylists and services are equally good, and they have no problem if you perpetually pick the new, emerging ones who are less expensive. I have had everything done here from vibrant fuchsia accent highlights to a traditional long, red hair style. Great job on them all. And if you’re not happy with something, you can act silly tell them, and they do whatever you need to make you happy… with no attitude whatsoever. I only wish I’d known about Garbo, when I first lived in Austin almost 20 years ago. Would’ve saved myself a lot of time, money and hair anguish!

Ashlee S. had quite the job when I walked in. I have massively curly hair (see facebook for proof) and I was on day 3 when I had my appointment with her, any other curly hair girls out there know what I’m talking about. The length was to my midback. All Ashlee had to go off of for my style was the one pinsized picture of a short haircut I rocked back in the day. Now, we’re in dangerous territory, I’m a curvy girl with a round face; short curly hair is going to be tough to pull off. Ashlee did it with flying colors, though. The pre hair wash massage was very relaxing and pleasant. She was efficient and timely but also checked in at key moments in my cut to ensure it would be to my liking. It worked, I love it. I was definitely scared before and Ashlee definitely put those fears to rest! SHORT HAIR DON’T CARE, what what. :)

I haven’t had an actual service here. I called to make an appointment and they placed me on hold no problem… After holding a bit I hung up, and opted to send an email in regards to questions about their consultation. No one ever emailed me back. What a bummer!

For starters — I am a little biased… I love Aveda salons but I have gone to bad ones. Luckily, this is not a bad one. The prices are reasonable and vary on the stylist experience. I chose Ashlee S. because of her service prices, highlighting experience and the time it takes her. I hate sitting for more than a couple hours. She has done a great job both times and I definitely plan to keep going back!

I moved to Austin from NYC where I had my go-​to gal at my favorite upscale city salon. It was expensive– but I was willing to pay for a guaranteed great cut and experience after so many less expensive nightmare haircuts around the city. After experiencing several terrible cuts, I was nervous to find a new salon in Austin.
All my worries disappeared when I sat in Jen’s chair for the first time. I knew I had found the right stylist when she took the first 5 – 10 minutes of the appointment to really listen and fully understand what I was hoping to achieve with my new cut. She looked at my hair thoroughly before washing, made recommendations, and then executed my desired outcome flawlessly.
I have been going to her for the past year and have never been disappointed. She always takes the time to really listen to what I want, and then talks me through what she thinks would be in my best interest. I know I am in the hands of someone who cares, and who has the skills achieve any cut or color I am going for. She is also really calming when I come in from a stressful day, and is happy to chat or just let me relax in silence.
Aside from Jen– Garbo Salon is always a pleasant and professional experience. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great salon, that is all about the customer experience. No stuck-​up stylists or gossipy gals here. Just great stylist giving great cuts at reasonable prices! Make an appointment with Jen. You won’t regret it:)

Awesome service, great haircut. I was greeted and offered a refreshment as soon as I walked through the door. My stylist Eli was very receptive and patient (I am very particular) and the result surpassed my best expectations. Highly recommend it.

I was with Jen that morning as I walked in. They took all my info at the counter, offered me coffee, tea or «citrus water» and I was off to tell Jen what I wanted done and she let me know that it wasn’t in my best interest to get that particular hair thing done… OK! See I’m not to fashion forward or hair savvy. I wake up in the morning and go. Sometimes I don’t brush my hair at all. I do own a flat iron and a blow dryer, but I only use them if I have an interview or some other special thing that I need to look polished for. Or when I get bored and feel like playing with my hair…
Anywho.
I did happen to have an interview that day which sadly didn’t work out, although it might have been a blessing, I live so far away and ride the bus around town.
I got a special dry scalp treatment that made my hair literally squeeky clean. and Jen did a wonderful job on my hair.
The whole thing was wonderful and gave me a boost in my spirits for the rest of the day.
I needed that.
I will be returning! Not as soon as I’d like since I’m poor, but it was such a wonderful experience that I have to do it again. Oh and if I had had an unlimited amount of money to blow that day, Jen is a good salesperson she would have sold me on anything and everything.

I moved to Austin from LA in 1997. I don’t think it was much more than a year or so later when I decided to give Garbo a shot at my curly unruly hair. I was lucky to get Rosalba. Up until this time I had rarely been satisfied with my haircuts. I have never gone anywhere else since then. I started with fairly short hair and then in the mid-​2000s I started going a LOT longer with my hair, and Rosalba never disappointed. Then I decided a year ago to try some color, going lighter, and Rosalba nailed it. Finally, at the end of 2014 I was thinking I was ready to go short again. I knew Rosalba could handle it and I just trusted her and said «go for it.» What she did was amazing. Easily the best haircut I’ve ever had in my life, and it was not the first time I’ve said that about Rosalba.
I had an appointment today and Rosalba was out sick. I really wanted my hair trimmed as it was last cut at the end of December. Marsha sat down with me to apologise for the inconvenience. I do drive 30 minutes each way to come here so it isn’t a small deal. Marsha gave me my much-​desired trim until I can get back to Rosalba in early April for color.
This place is professional and top-​notch all the way. There are some Aveda salons closer to me now than there were in 1997 but I don’t even want to deviate for the sake of convenience.

I was in Austin for the day from San Antonio and treated myself to a wonderful afternoon at Garbo with Roo Hampton! I won’t go to any non-​Aveda salon and after calling several places, I was able to get an appointment on short notice.
I have very, very curly and thick hair, most stylists don’t know how to deal with it or are surprised by the volume. Roo did awesome work! Everything from the shoulder massage to the blow dry was done with special attention and care. The entire experience was SO relaxing and positive; the spa had a friendly (aka not pretentious), cheerful, and welcoming atmosphere.
I was super happy with the end result and might make a special trip up to Austin to get a cut and style again soon!

I was able to make a same-​day appointment here — the place is well staffed — and got a wonderful haircut from Brianna. I got a long bob with some layers and a sideswept bang. She listened to me, and gave me exactly what I asked for. She was also wiling to advise me when I asked directly, but she didn’t try to push me into anything. She also explained the techniques she was doing, which I really appreciated. An excellent haircut — and very affordable! I am very pleased!
But the salon deserves five stars not just for the cut, but also for the service. The reception desk is extremely friendly and positive, and you offered coffee, tea, candy and cookies as soon as you walk in the door. The ambiance is very pleasant, up to the standard of other Aveda salons I have visited. My hair dresser Brianna was super sweet, a good conversationalist when I wanted to talk, and also happy to work without talking when I just wanted to observe the cut. At the end the cut, she showed me how to style my new bangs.
Bottom line: high quality cut, great price, and excellent service. What more could I ask for?

Words cannot express how happy I am to finally find my forever curly stylist, after having tried out 2 other very well reviewed curly salons… therefore I will just say that I will be going back to the salon shortly to give Judy a big ass hug. Dead serious. =D Judy, you’re the best!
