The food here was okay, though not worth the price. The biggest issue was the service. Aside from being incredibly slow, the waitress was preoccupied, forgetting several items my party asked for. One of the plates came a full 10 minutes after the rest. To top it off, we were mischarged, and when the bill was fixed, we weren’t given a summary of the charges. I really wanted to like this restaurant, because it has a great atmosphere, but I just can’t see myself returning.

Bad service, undercooked food, the meat looked rotten. I would write a more in-depth review but I’m literally about to through up. Usually this place is good at least the ones in Houston are.

I love this place! Why does it seem to go more down hill each time? We waited in line for them to refill most of the meats, which they did in due time. But they were out of so much and they were not carrying some of our favorite sauces either. I felt bad for our waitress because she seemed to be on her own which makes the whole restaurant suffer. Just sad to see a great place seem to go down hill.

Utterly mediocre & overpriced. I have tried other variations of this style of restaurant and found this one to be lacking in every way. The portions were small for the money, and the quality of the ingredients did not make up for this fact. Much of the meat was still frozen and of low quality. The veggies were decent and the seasoning selection was alright but not in any way authentic. The finished product was undercooked in some places and overcooked in others. In my experience other places similar to this one have you pick a meat that is pre portioned and wrapped, and you self-serve the veggies. This way when they go to stir-fry they can cook the meat before adding the veggies or vice versa depending on what your selection was. To top it all off, they were very understaffed and the whole place was hanging by a thread. We waited far too long for everything; menus, drinks, food, check etc. This was not the fault of the servers but likely managerial error. Unfortunately it made this a slow, underwhelming meal at Ghengis Grill. Do not waste your money, eat at Central Market instead.

Way too expensive! Prices have gone up ridiculously. Bowls used to be $ 10, and now they’re $ 14.75. Not worth it. Much better restaurants for that kind of money. Won’t come back.

This is a very fun place. You get to select all the contents of your meal and they cook it right up. The service is average and the price is moderate. But I love the food. It’s conveniently located in the Westgate Mall shopping center right down from Central Market.

It bills itself as Gluten Free– that is only IF you do not put any sauces or flavorings in it. Walked in and was seated by a young man that was either really really new or really really shy. Acted scared and disconnected. That should have been an omen. Waited to get«served» which was giving a drink order and choosing a size of stainless steel bowl that looked like a dog dish to build the meal. Got to the item bar and a great deal of the meats were empty. An older woman was complaining that there was a shortage of employees today and she was doing the job or 3 people, although there seemed to be alot of employees there, just could not tell what anyone was doing. Went through the line and there were 2 gluten free options only… tomato sauce and orange sauce. No gluten free soy sauces, or any sauces. Employees are completely clueless about what gluten free was and everyone kept saying it was«corporate» that limited their abilities to provide anything. Ordered 2 glasses of wine and mine came in a glass that already had lipstick prints all around the glass– that that got sent back. I went there a couple of years ago and recommended it to several people. This time is was run down, low quality, slow service, creepy place. Wouldn’t recommend it and expect it will be closing down…

I used to love going here, but they have really gone down hill. Last visit, the service was awful and they only had 10 tables! We made our bowls and had our food before we even had drinks brought. Somehow, each of us seemed to get a little bit of each other’s bowl… I got a couple of scallops in mine even though I hate them and didn’t put any in my bowl.

I’ve come here randomly for many years and I’m sad to say that this place has gone down hill. I remember when I first used to come here they would have both sides filled and people on both sides… almost all the time. The food didn’t look quite as appealing as it used to, marginal at best in freshness/appearance. The egg they cooked with my stir fry just looked like a cooked egg lay on my dish instead of stir fried with it. Then, the biggest upset for me, the waiter told me they had decided to not stock gluten free soy sauce, which they have previously. I love soy sauce and it sucks to have a stir fry that’s screaming for soy sauce and I can’t use theirs… I know I’m being dramatic but it’s a small cost for them or a huge loss for me!!!

The food is great and the service is good. It’s relatively easy to order, select bowl size, fill it with meats or fish, veggies, spices and sauce and take it to the cooks. You have an option to add rice, noodles or cabbage and the they bring it to you. It’s a great filling meal and quite affordable, too.

I maybe go here 3 – 4 times a month for lunch since I work down the street, never an issue, waiters even know me and know I need to be in and out. So today I decide to take my mom for lunch being that she’s visiting from out of town, worst decision to make. A bit disappointed to say the least… Super slow, so slow I HAD to go to the bar to get refills on our drinks, no apology. Good thing I’m not at all allergic to shrimp because there was 2 pieces in my bowl and I didn’t even have shrimp to begin with, no apology when mentioned. Waitress was VERY inattentive to her tables. Another couple had to track down another waitress to get their check, I waited 6 minutes after asking for ours. So upset that my mom’s first experience of Austin was here and like this… I seriously didn’t see a tip was even warranted, hence the big 0 on the bill… very disappointed. :(

The sweet potatoes were rotten on the veggies line. They cooked with it. When I told the waitress she even accepted that the sweet potatoes were rotten and smelled like garbage. They did NOT comp my meal! Will never go back.

One of my favorite low carb meals. You can get an extra bowl for veggies if you don’t get a rice or noodles. Great portions.

First time here and felt like a buffet. Liked the fact I knew what I was putting into my bowl. May go again to try different protein.

I’m with Kat R. Go to Central Market for the same price and get better quality food. I ate here for the first time on a birthday email(thank God it was FREE) I wouldn’t come back here and pay for this. First of all, the veggies look like they are cut for a stew, not a stir fry — chunky and large so you can’t get variety in the bowl. plus when it’s cooked up it’s still raw and crispy for the most part… My experience was not so pleasant… There was one table with about 7 people at it, and two other individual tables with single people at each one. Not very busy around 4pm on a Monday afternoon… I am given a choice of seat, the lady explains a few things to me(keeps saying that my server will explain everything to me — why doesn’t she tell me if she’s already here talking to me I do not know… but come to realize that the entire staff just points fingers for POORSERVICE). I’m the only one that has walked in and hasn’t eaten … every other table mentioned above is eating their bowl and probably ready for their bill right about now. I walk through get my bowl, seasonings, etc… Take it to the grill boy(young young kid! lol) and I go back to my seat — he says it will be brought to me. So I’m sitting against the windows watching my bowl sit on the counter getting cold while the grill boy looks around looking for the server — confused look on his face — the veggie prep counter lady is looking around confused… I walk from the windows by the door to the grill again and get my own damn bowl… ASTHETWOWORKERSARESAYING«Oh wow she had to come get her own bowl» wtf… these two employees have legs and hands and could have walked my fucking bowl to my table. Like I said — I was the only one in the restaurant that hadn’t gotten their food or been eating… The server was actually WORKING and trying to split the bills for the big party… and as I sit down to eat my bowl I see the veg lady walk over and say again«That lady had to come and get her own bowl» wtf is wrong with people these days? I get it if someone isn’t doing their job… but they could have walked their happy asses to my table with my food too… Like I said, I’m thrilled that this was free. I took home most of my food and am cooking it up myself so it’s softer and not so crispy. If you want softer ask for well-done… I didn’t know, but I definitely wont’ be coming back here. I’d rather spend my cash at the Central Market next door. Edit: I forgot to add that the server didn’t even mention the failure to serve the bowl to me… an apology or recognition would have been nice at least… or «how’s the food taste»… HAPPYBIRTHDAYTOME…

Casual and good place where you can build your own bowl of food. There have a wide range of protein and veggie options. It might take a few visits to master your own bowl of food since you pick spices and sauces yourself.

Quite good and cooked perfectly! I miss the old salad bar. Waitstaff was wonderful! She was slammed during the lunch rush but still had a charming attitude. Her name is Sherry.

I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It’s a chain, in a strip-mall type area, and I get that. My expectations weren’t that high or anything. But for a bill of around 30 bucks for 2 regular sized portions and 1 drink is way too high for the quality. I could get a meal that is literally 10x’s higher quality for that price in austin. If it had been a cheap meal, alright fine, get what you pay for… I could easily get a better meal from the grocery store café at central market for the same price(which I would also consider expensive for fast-casual food). The service was slow, and not because the servers were bad(they were trying pretty hard) they were understaffed, and the layout of the place makes it hard for them to get around quickly(they were all running around, looking stressed). I felt nauseous immediately after finishing the meal, and ended up throwing away my leftovers, and I hate wasting food. Blegh.

This location was convinient. Our server was amazingly attentive and nice, but I did overhear her say it was her last week or something of that nature. The visit was without flaw, except for one major detail. I think the guy behind the grill completely forgot to add my Mongo BBQ sauce to my bowl. It was a major letdown, leaving my bowl almost without taste. That knocked it down a couple of stars, but I don’t think it should deter anyone from coming here. Especially if you are a mongolian food fanatic like myself. If you are in this area and need something filling, this is a good spot.
