H-E-B Grocery Store

As A New Member Of This Team, I took the time out to personally look at My H-​E-​Bs Unilocal Reviews to see what I can do to better myself as well as the store. Although I am just a cashier coming on I Do see the mistakes as well as the improvement the store has made within the month that ive been at this location. I am very glad to read the issues presented to our customer service team has improved tremendously in month just reading the comments, please continue to shop at our very convient store to help us improve! we need this feed back presented to us so that we can know where to grow. a lot of the comments say «we wont return ««expect nothing and no one to care» that is NOT H-​E-​Bs way of opperating and although a lot of these issues are «Common Sense» based. If The issue is properly presented we can fix the issue in a more quicker manner. I do go into the parking lot with gloves and a trash bag to pick up trash. what I am more trying to say is HELP US HELP YOU. I know personally getting off work our H-​E-​B is right there and u hate the things u hate but still come because its close I personally want to make your shopping trip better so everyone leave me suggestions to what we can do to BRING YOU BACK!!! and to the customer on the Veggie chips and Items we don’t sell ive been with this company almost 2 months, I’m in my last week of company development class which is learning about the company and how it works please understand YOUR NUMBERS MATTER. if we don’t sell much of a product we end up having to throw out the product after so many inventory sessions we are loosing that money and with the Unilocal reviews I see we are also loosing customers and product… see where I’m going? my homework for class was to look at those numbers and it asked me what could I do to improve my store… THIS IS STEP ONE!!! I’m not aiming for manager I’m aiming for trainer! to fix a problem before it has a chance to present itself, to cover ALL GROUNDS OF BASIC CUSTOMER SERVICE AS WELL AS MEETING THE COMPANY NEEDS it IS possible but I need the COMMUNITY to come back and HELP us Be Better for you GIVE US YOUR FEED BACK AS WELL AS YOUR SERVICE AGAIN! WE HAVE ALREADY GROWN AND CHANGING SOMETHING NEW!!! I don’t feel you should have to inconvience yourself to have plesent shopping experience AT ALL especially when we are RIGHT THERE!!! I will be suggesting we get a comment box for the front of our store and if I can be in charge of it because H-​E-​B DOES CARE «PEOPLE MATTER» IS SOMETHING H-​E-​B LIVES BY.

Parking lot is still filthy. It appears as if no one cares. Certainly not the clientele but you would expect the staff to take more pride in their establishment.

While I do not take back my previous review I did also write a note to HEB. Their customer service response was stellar. The produce manager called me within 24 hours of the complaint and offered the produce to me next time free or charge. Kudos customer service team.

Look, you need to treat this H-​E-​B like Congress: Don’t expect very much.
You won’t find your specialty ginger beer, pink Himalayan sea salt or nacho cheese kale chips here. This is the «oh well» of H-​E-​Bs. The hood rat. The consolation prize. If you’re in the area and need a basic staple, here ya go.
Bottom line: It’s nearby and cheap, just like that hooker standing outside the entrance.

Manager Ananda was not very informed. I was paying four bills for a 94 year old neighbor. I was missing the AT&T front page but had the second which listed amount due and account number. Amanda couldn’t explain why she couldn’t process it, just that I could drive across town to 41^st heb where they could do it. I will never shop at this location again. Just trying to help out my elderly neighbor has turned into a much bigger job.

Produce rotten all the time, only good for buying the organic products that go to the clearance section… that is rare though.

The biggest problem here is that they don’t offer the same high-​quality foods here that they do at other HEB stores and that’s criminal. Many people at many income levels like to eat well and deserve a grocery store that provides good food along with the junk food and regular food.
I have NOT seen the dirtiness or rudeness from employees that others write about, in fact, my checker today was friendly and very nice. The two-​star rating is from the lack of healthy and/​or organic offerings.

Found what I wanted in the way of groceries, but the cashier was between «Eek» and «Meh,» leaning toward «Eek.»
She lallygagged with her friend ahead of me (in the express aisle), bag-​a-​little, talk-​a-​little. I thought the express aisle was for people in a hurry!!!
When she finally deigned to finish with her friend, she scanned my bananas before my gallon of tea, then let the gallon of tea fall over on the bananas.
She had to have noticed I didn’t have a bag (I was not aware of Austin’s no-​plastic rule, and had somehow forgotten to get a bag out of my trunk), but instead of asking me if I wanted to buy a reusable one (for $ 0.27 — a nice sturdy bag, too) before she started checking me out, she just put my stuff on the counter and then went on to check out the next person.
What did she think I was going to do — carry bananas, a gallon of tea, a box of triscuits, string cheese, and fruit chews in my arms? So I had to get her attention and buy that bag. For a minute I thought she was also going to leave me to put my stuff into it myself, but she did eventually, grudgingly do her job of bagging.
Hey, HEB, I thought the job market was still tight. Surely you can hire people who actually view working for you as a *job*???

The best part about this store is the convenient location near my house. Otherwise, it’s a pain in the ass to shop there (poor customer service, terrible bathrooms, limited item stock). They also need to figure out when their busy times are so there are enough open registers. And one last thing, 10 ITEMS MEANS 10 ITEMS!

I am surprised by all the bad reviews that this HEB has received. I live closer to the HEB in the Hancock Center, but prefer this location on 7^th. It’s WAY easier to grocery shop here because it’s less crowded and has a better layout. I also think the people are more friendly! The only negative I have about this HEB is the produce selection isn’t great.

I agree with other reviewers, this HEB is pretty unsavory.
However, they ALWAYS have giant ripe avocados, a pretty good beer selection, and do have a few Central Market items (sweet potato chips!). I wouldn’t do my regular shopping here, but if I just need a few things and it’s on my way, I have no problem swinging by.
Tips for success:
— Do not be in a hurry.
— Lower your expectations. This is not the HEB in Westlake; you cannot buy pre-​sliced flank steak or love dip. But If all you need is toilet paper, or apples and peanut butter, or the one thing you forgot to make that one recipe you will be fine. (Again, as long as it isn’t pink Himalayan sea salt in bulk.)
— Do not wear lululemon speed shorts. (Or any kind of shorts, really. In fact, it’s better not to show any skin at all.)

I moved to the East side almost 9 years ago and I have gotten very acquainted with this HEB. The produce is awful, very limited organic options and usually what they do have is far from fresh. I have bought already expired cheese and yogurt on a few occasions until I learned to ALWAYS check the expiry dates. On several occasions I have actually put items back on the shelves where I got them as opposed to wait in the ridiculously long checkout lines.
The store is showing it’s age and is overdue for a renovation/​expansion. Some self-​checkout lanes would be nice. Maybe the management thinks that a renovation would be a waste of resources? I wish that someone from HEB would comment on some of these reviews and explain why they think the East side residents don’t deserve fresh, healthy food. Is it because a large percentage of the shoppers at this location are low income? Maybe they don’t think there is enough demand for the type of products they offer at the HEB’s in more affluent communities? Or, do they expect us to drive to the Riverside location which was recently overhauled? I don’t know if I would call it an improvement over 7^th street but it is certainly bigger and has more of the stuff I don’t want to buy.

If I could rate this store a ZERO or a NEGATIVE number I would! We own a restaurant downtown and we frequently go to HEB. 7^th street is the closest location to us, yet we generally drive out of the way to Hancock Center or the HEB/​Oltorf and Congress, or Riverside HEB Plus–
7^th street HEB is H O R R I B L E.
The store is dirty… The produce is terrible. In fact, it is beyond terrible. There are hardly any organic products. There is hardly any fish, or meats. There are never any lines open. The mobile carts are never charged up, and they are old and torn up anyway. The people are not friendly
Today when we went, the girl who was checking us out did not even want to bag our groceries. She proceeded to ring up the employee who was in line behind us, rather than bagging up our groceries.
HEB management– There are so many nice HEB’s in Austin– Hancock, Riverside, Congress and Oltorf, Lake Creek, Braker, Anderson Mill, The two in Cedar Park… why is this HEB so horrible. Because it is in an area where low income families live, so who cares. right?

Hey HEB mgt: Those of us that have cars do make it out of the East Side from time to time. It is disgusting to me to see how you reserve your decent produce for the nicer suburban neighborhood HEB’s.
Can we get a Gluten Free /​Organic section going on here? Even a tiny one?
Stop pushing crap produce on the East side. I go to Michoacana for produce, while not organic, at least it is not hours away from total decay like the junk at 7^th St HEB.

It may not have the shelf space as the larger HEBs that surround this location, but being here as long as I have you really get to know not only the Employees but other Customers. That’s what makes this store so great. It’s your small neighborhood store; everyone knows everyone.
If you don’t find something you’re looking for, that doesn’t mean you cannot find a grocery manager or a manager in charge and request the item. Unlike other places, they’ll actually call you back and let you know.
I agree, this store is in no way any of the flagship stores in West Austin, but that’s what adds to the store’s charm.
IMO, this is a great little store.

I only give this place two stars because it is, as advertised, a grocery store and a step-​up (albeit small) from a gas station mini-​mart.
I’m not a big fan of HEB in general (clearly they have lined a few pockets to create a pretty good monopoly in this town), and how fortunate I am to have the worst of the worst right outside my own front door, with no options short of an additional 10-​minute drive. Hence, my observations are a consistent reflection of multiple visits:
1. Store is small and so is the parking lot. Hence both are always packed and nothing short of a circus. It gives me anxiety just to pull into the place.
2. Selection is extremely limited, if you’re looking for anything beyond the basics… you’re screwed.
3. Deli counter is a joke. It will easily push you to seek out the Oscar Meyer display on the other side of the isle. Prepared food selection is nil.
4. I don’t care when you choose to do your shopping, you’re going to wait in line here. And wait… and wait… and wait…
East Side folks deserve better. If you have the option, drive the ten minutes to anywhere but this place.

East Austin needs a new grocery store, period. This H-​E-​B simply doesn’t cut it if you’re looking for fresh produce or an advanced selection of ANY product. Shop here only if you’re in a bind or if you don’t have transportation to alternate grocery stores.

This HEB is such a disappointment. They don’t have any of the higher end (aka healthier) items that you find at other HEBs. The store must have low expectations for East Austinites. Also, the store has a generally grungy feeling– low lighting, old fixtures, etc. Maybe one day the East side will get a quality grocery store.

Out of all the H-​E-​Bs in the world, this is by no means the best. And yet, I find the one-​star reviews of this place puzzling, to say the least. I live and work in East Austin, so this grocery store is where I shop for office kitchen supplies and where I often end up picking up stuff for myself at home.
Admittedly, this is not the H-​E-​B where I do the bulk of my shopping. I save that for the Hancock Center H-​E-​B ‘cuz they have a hippie section. I try to eat healthily and mostly vegetarian, and 7^th Street H-​E-​B has a stark lack of organic foods and prepared vegetarian options (frozen foods, soy-​based products, etc.). I do agree with Chris B. in that I think that H-​E-​B headquarters needs to rethink the distribution of healthier products in lower-​income areas. One walk through the frozen food aisle is enough to make your arteries clog; but for every diabetes-​inducing product, there are usually healthy choices available, they’re just not promoted as much or placed in prime view.
However, other than that, I can’t say that I see anything wrong with this H-​E-​B. It’s smaller than many H-​E-​Bs, so it doesn’t have a ton of non-​grocery items, but it does have a pharmacy, a bakery and a not-​terrible produce section. As Leila B. noted, the employees are always friendly, and I have never noticed anything dirty about the facilities, unlike Justin W. Best of all, everything here is CHEAP, so it’s great to come here and pick up things like onions, oatmeal (Keith H. (filtered review) — they have blueberry oatmeal there now!) and napkins at cheaper prices than at other H-​E-​Bs.
In conclusion, I wouldn’t want this H-​E-​B to be my only option for grocery shopping, but I can get all the basics here for cheap, and it’s rul close. That merits an «A-​OK» in my book.

Dirty.Dirty.Dirty… Unfortunately this is the closest grocery store to my place in East Austin. I stopped by here right after moving in and was so disappointed after hearing friends say how nice HEB’s are in Texas. I have been to others since and now know that this one is an anomaly in the HEB world. After going to it’s rather expensive cousin, Central Market, I swore off this eastside hole unless I’m desperate for something like cleaning supplies (which apparently they sell, but don’t use very often.)
Spend the gas money and extra couple of bucks and go anywhere else.
