Hertz Rent A Car

This review is for the East 10^th location.
I wish I could give this place zero stars. One word. hot-​mess! I came in to pick up a car that was booked by my insurance. Although I was the only one in the store that morning it took like 30 minutes to get set up. Once we had finished up the contract stuff the gentleman directed me to the vehicle outside. Before I got within 5 feet of the vehicle I noticed a few dents and dark scratches all over. I commented on the exterior and and then opened the door to find stains all over the seats and a vehicle that smelled heavily of smoke. Do they ever check the vehicles before handing them off to another customer? When the gentlemen peaked in the vehicle he apologized for wasting my time with the vehicle and offered up the only other available vehicle in the lot. He then told me hat he would contact me in the next day if the vehicle I wanted came in but never did.
A week later I got a flat on the rental because of a nail. It was around 6:20 so I was unable to contact the 10^th street store and had to call corporate. I was on hold for like 30 minutes before I finally got to someone. I told the woman on the phone that I did not have a spare in the rental vehicle. She then told me that I could use the inflatable kit in the trunk or call for roadside assistance and be charged 100 + a new tire. I told her that the inflatable kit did not work because of the nail and that I refuse to pay out of pocket for a tow. She then became irate with me so I told her thank you and hung up. I called back again hoping to get another representative and was on hold for 45 minutes so I gave up for the evening.
The next day after 45 minutes and 3 hertz corporate representatives I was finally able to get hold of the right department. The person I spoke to said they would come tow the rental at no cost to me and that I would just be charged for the tire. I was told to check back in 2 hours to make sure the tow was returned. I called the airport location several times and was unable to get through, I also left 2 voice messages. The day after on a Monday I called the E. 10^th location to locate the vehicle and close out the account. The individual I spoke to said they had no record of the vehicle and that they had to do «research» and would contact me within 15 minutes. The clock hit 6pm and I did not get a call! I called again the next day and it was the same thing.
I have like 2 more things to shed light on but I’m tired of typing. Basically Hertz sucks. I called my insurance and had a new rental set up with Enterprise.

Why are all these reviews so low? I had a great experience at this location, both on the way in and out. Everyone was nice and helpful, the car was clean and ready to go, and the facility is clean as well.
Unlike the airport locations, this one only charges you for the gas needed to fill up the tank! At the airport, even if you are only a couple gallons short they will charge you for a full tank.

Several times they are out of cars, and they only hold your car for 2 hours.
The rental car they provided was a Ford Explorer with 60,000 miles!

In continuation from the previous locations:
I call here and David answers the phone. I explain to him how I’ve been chasing my tail trying to get a car… that works. I explained to him how roadside assistance was of absolutely no help, even though they made me go through them not once, but twice. and got absolutely nowhere.
David is a manger, thank goodness. And one who chooses to keep his clientele happy, no less. Thank you.
To sum it all up nicely, the god-​awful experience with the 4 locations in previous reviews was finally put to a halt. David, kindly enough, managed to have a vehicle brought to me and exchanged for that hoopty van they put me in. And from there on my life was good again. Thank you David. I truly appreciate you, I hope you know this.
He called me the next day to make sure everything was going smoothly, which it was, thanks to him! And I returned the vehicle this morning, hassle free, trouble free. and a little compensation for all the trouble.
David has restored my faith in Hertz… although, I can see myself calling upon him or his location in the future when I need another vehicle. I have faith he will get to the bottom of the endless problems Braker Lane and Metric locations consistently have. (because needless to say, this is NOT the first time I’ve had issues with either of them). They were just always the most convenient to my job and so they were chosen… but not again. Not in the neat future.
I truly hope Hertz recognizes what an asset they have in this man… because I was absolutely DONE with this company, until him. Yes, I may be only person, but my company rents through Hertz endlessly all year long. And when we continue to have problems, especially that cost us time and money, they will eventually be removed from the list of viable options. So… In this case, I’m not really just one person.

Can’t thank these guys enough. I was in a jam and needed a car ASAP. Kyle really went the extra mile to help me out and I was on the road in no time. I would highly recommend these guys and I will definitely be using them again.

This location NEVER has cars available. A car rental business that never has cars. Genius. Stay away from this location.

I went to Hertz yesterday — I needed a car for just one day and I was looking to get the cheapest thing they had. I booked online and showed up about an hour later. Well, an hour and a half — I called them to tell them I was running late because I wanted to get some breakfast tacos. They were completely happy to have me come in on my own schedule. When I showed up I was helped by Kyle. He was hands down, the friendliest, most easy going, and super helpful person. He upgraded me, despite my cheapness (: and just overall sent us off with a smile. I know, this seems really cheezy, but he made our day start out wonderfully well. (the tacos were pretty good, too). All in all, I would definitely go back, and send my friends to get help from Kyle — because good customer service and helpfulness make everything better.

ok deep breath, i went to texas and flew in to the austin airport with mom and sister. mom had a package for the flight and then car pickup (fully paid) at the hertz inside the airport… sorry this is where the story begins. they were sold out of cars (even for those booked) and had people already waiting for 3 hours… instead of waiting longer i decided to call another branch to see if they could help. i called this downtown location and they were nice enough to say they would honor our booking for the other branch. i asked if they could have a car pick up us as we didn’t have one, and they couldn’t, however they would reimburse us for the taxi.
we take the taxi and get to the location. the guy behind the counter was nice. however, since the car was fully paid for already they wouldn’t be able to deduct the taxi fare we just paid for… so i asked if they could upgrade us, they could but some reason we still got charged so they were going to call me back for the update on the reimbursement. Tim P. (branch manager) was our contact and for the most part was super pleasant to work with.
the rental from there went smooth, but when we dropped it off at the airport the guy almost charged me cause the downtown location didn’t mark the tank right. i luckily had a picture that i took and the guy at the airport was nice enough to believe me since the iphone doesn’t time stamp.
so i get back home and I still didn’t have a call back (half a week) so I decided to followup. every time i called he «wasn’t available». I left my number and requested a call back but never got a call back. Eventually his manager happened to pick up the phone David K. (Area Manager) and said he would help me. (this was about a week of calling non-​stop by the way) He said they have had some issues with the reimbursement process as they switched companies recently. He asked if I travel and that he could in the meantime give send me a $ 100 gift certificate for the trouble. This was cool since I was going on a trip to Hawaii. He also assisted with the booking. So that was a winner. He also said if I ever have any other bookings for the future to please reach out to him and he would directly assist me for all the troubles.
booking for hawaii and the certificate went well. so i take David up on his offer and message him on another booking, took forever and it almost seemed more of an offer that wasn’t going to go through. just saying to to be nice. i gave up at some point in frustration. i also haven’t heard anything back about the my reimbursement of $ 60 — 80.
being in customer service for most of my career this is the most frustrating thing ever. to never get followup via phone of email is just lame. Note: i had given Tim/​David my email so that it would be easier for follow-up…how much easier can it be… I’m still looking into this for you in email.
DO NOT GO HERE!!! i’m also from this experience alone never going through Hertz again and will push it on my friends/​family for the same.

RUDE! «JENNIFER» representing Hertz Downtown (709 E. 10^th St.) just treated me to the RUDEST, most INAPPROPRIATE phone treatment I have received at a business in longer than I can remember. So UNBELIEVABLY, UNNECESSARILY CLASSLESS.
I think this girl forgot she no longer works at DON’S BIKER BAR AND ROADHOUSE and this is not a BAR FIGHT, it’s settling up a bill at a business which you represent. One at which you are supposed to reflect an image BENEFITTING the brand, not the other way around.
I felt like she was about to throw a drink at me– if she could have, I think she would.
SAVE THE DRAMA FOR YO MAMA GIRL! Thank goodness the location has a couple of good guys behind the counter, one of whom phoned me back and, in a miracle of good judgment, just simply ANSWERED my question, not telling me what I could do with this and that and «where I could take it» if I didn’t understand.
Poor girl, she had no idea how to answer my question b/​c either she hadn’t been trained or didn’t understand her training… Either way, the gentleman with whom I had opened the contract at time of rental graciously phoned me back after hearing the apparent SHITSTORM going down in his office, explained the bill itemization me– an apparent error on their part, something his co-​worker had failed to recognize as what it was, which was my lone question IN THE FIRST PLACE, told me how it would be rectified, and I was on my way.
DUDEZ AT HERTZ: DON’T LET YOUR 16-​YEAR-​OLD LIL’ SIS ANSWER THE PHONE FOR YOU! DO IT YOURSELVES, YOU’LL SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF HEADACHE COVERING UP FOR THE HOOD-​RAT CAT FIGHTS SHE CALLS PHONE SUPPORT!

First car they gave me had multiple dents on one side and the gas tank as only ⁷⁄₈ full — at $ 4/​gallon, it was probably $ 12 short. I asked for another car and was given one with only a minor dent above the driver’s side handle, but after we left I noticed that the inside of the window had a film which made driving difficult in the sun. They should have properly cleaned the car and this would include cleaning the inside of the windshield. As this is a Hertz, I expected much more.
