After years of taking kids skating at the ice rink at Northcross Mall, I suppose I have spoiled expectations of what an ice rink is supposed to be. This is more of a frozen pond between buildings. Just so you know. That said, the ice was in good shape when we arrived at the pond with our group of young teens, and it has good walls for hanging onto when necessary. The skates were in good condition, and rental is included with the $ 10/hour skate fee. The manager on duty, a war veteran, was very helpful, friendly, and organized. Our teens had fun, even when the pond began to become crowded with teetering youngsters and their parents. Everyone there was basically a beginning skater, no matter their size. My daughter, a dancer, reported that she had beautifully executed a swan dive into the ice, and had the sore nose and arm to prove it. My son, ever the adventurer, tallied his fall count at twelve and laughed about it. I have no fall count to report, since I spent the hour drinking chai latte & chatting in the adjacent coffee shop & watching through the window. I realize that this is the equivalent of hanging out at the ski lodge while everyone else is out on the slopes, but it was a bit nippy outside to be sitting around on a bench. Afterward, everyone explored the creative shops and had appetizers at the Oasis. All in all, a positive experience, and a fun diversion for a holiday afternoon.

We all had so much fun ice skating here! My Sister and her kids were visiting and I had been wanting an excuse to go ice skating at the Oasis… The Manager was AWEsome when I asked if we could come back after dinner — she said«You have not skated an hour yet» … We had already been skating for over an hour — I must have had a confused look on my face because she then winked at me:) So we got some more skate time in after dinner! And my Sis and I got to teach the kiddos everything we learned from lessons when we thought we wanted to go Pro:)

We have gone to the skating rink twice and had a ball both times. We went right when it opened on two Sundays and there was no one there. I have kids that are 7&5 and they both ended up skating. The Manager is super helpful and VERY good with kids. He even came out on the ice and helped my 5 year old learn to skate since my husband and I weren’t on skates. His wife was helping out this past Sunday and she seemed very nice as well. The rink is small, but that makes it perfect for younger kids. It would be a bit small if you were an older teenager and really wanted to do big tricks, but I don’t think that’s the point of the rink. It’s for fun, for getting out and skating a bit and pretending we live where it’s cold. The rink being outside keeps the general deal pretty warm for spectators and even skaters. The 1st time we went they were skating in shorts and were perfectly warm. The weather was VERY chilly this Sunday but they bundled up and had fun anyway. I think that this is a nice outing for a couple hours which is about the max most younger kids want to skate anyway. I recommend checking it out even if you aren’t going to The Oasis to eat. If you haven’t been there in a year you will be shocked by the new parking garage, stores, coffee shop, etc. We had a great time and the kids loved it, so no complaints here.

30 minute drive to the Oasis on a Tuesday night. Show up at 9:02pm — «sorry, we accept the last skaters at 8:45»… WHAT? Your site, even Unilocal, shows you close at 10. You really want to turn away customers an hour before closing so it’s easier to clean the rink? Sure, you offered to let us skate for a couple of minutes… but what’s the point in paying for a couple of minutes when you’re supposedly open for another hour? Boo on you.
