Hula Hut has incredible burgers and a wonderful view. It is always a great time! 10⁄10 would recommend.

The only good thing about it is the view. Food is whack service equally whack. Idk what’s worse, the seating arrangement or the crow fights.

First time here as we wanted to see mozarts light show afterwards. BF wanted Thai BBQ fajitas so we got those and went with combination which was beef, chicken, and shrimp. It was pretty good and flavorful which was nice since we were being adventurous and not basic. Also got the queso compuesto which had fajita beef, guac(YUM), and pico de gallo.

Hula Hut is a tourist trap. I am a local and went with friends who were visiting. It was cooler outside so they had the plastic covering pulled down to keep it warm inside. Unfortunately they trapped about 3 birds inside. It was disgusting. The birds kept flying onto our table, our hair or sitting above us on the rafters. My friend actually got pooped on! Our server did nothing and no apologies were made. I ordered the steak tubular taco. I couldn’t even finish it because the meat was fatty and chewy. Unfortunately, it was not a good experience and I will not be returning.

Great spot on the lake. Really good service ! But the food is just alright. I always have a great time when I go though! Give it a shot! They have a wonderful patio, on the water, very lovely. I think you should definitely give it a try.

Sporting a tropical persona and cantilevered over a lake with a dock ready for boating and whatnot, of course Hula Hut would be the perfect place to grab lunch on a moist, brisk New Year’s Day. Even with a staff that was most assuredly hung over, the familiar call of their freshly made salsa brought me in. And the salsa mating call did not disappoint. The fresh tortilla chips cradled the salsa that then punched me with just enough heat and finished with a sparkle of pineapple to remind me this is no Chi-Chi’s. I ordered the Chicken Pipeline Enchilada with the promise and anticipation that comes with a new year. And like 2016, it showed up much quicker than expected. Covered is a blanco sauce it too held enough spice to make me work for a bit, but not so much as to force me into submission. It was accompanied by a utilitarian serving of Spanish rice and refried beans that’s purpose could only be to fill up the white space of the plate rather than as an effort to compliment the hero. That can be overlooked though, because the enchilada is indeed the hero of the day and it is large enough not to back down from any appetite. The service was acceptable given the holiday and the continued inebriation level everyone must be experiencing. If we were in the heat of the summer and it was margaritas and cerveza flowing in place of soda, there would be hell to pay. But the year is just starting and we all have to ramp up slowly. I am looking forward to seeing 2016 though with you again soon Hula Hut.

Used to go to Hula Hut all the time, but hadn’t been in a couple of years. Went with my wife, nephew, brother-in-law and his wife and immediately felt like this was not the same Hula Hut I once loved. The table, chair seats and floor under the table were all dirty and obviously hadn’t been cleaned before we were seated. Ok, mistakes happen. We had a great waitress that was fast and kept drinks and chip baskets full. My wife ordered fajitas, and myself and the other two adults ordered burritos. The kiddo had a corndog and fries. All three of our orders came out ice cold. The fajita meat was cold too and wasn’t even doing the whole sizzling thing like one usually experiences with fajitas. The side of beans and rice were also ice cold. We all knew right away that something was wrong when the waitress said to be careful because the plates were hot. They weren’t even luke warm. We each stuck a finger in our food and were shocked by how cold the sauce and inside filling was. The waitress took all the plates back, my wife kept hers, but did send back the beans. While we waited for our food, another waitress dropped off another round of beans and they were cold. We sent them back a second time. A manager brought out the third round of beans and almost threw them on the table. Finger in, still ice cold. This guy didn’t seem to care at all about what was happening, nor that the food he was serving was below safe serving temps. About 15 minutes later, our food came out again. All food on our plates was ice cold again. Our waitress even stuck her finger in, upon our request, just to see for herself. She was amazed that it wasn’t blazing hot, but kept her cool, after all, it wasn’t her fault. Either something was wrong with the cooks or the warmer. She even laughed and made some sort of muddled comment under her breath about how bad the manager was that we had been dealing with during our horrible time at the Hula Hut. We paid for the fajitas, my nephew’s corndog and fries(they were hot) and paid for that, and we paid for the guacamole, but everything else was taken off our bill, which was good since we didn’t get to eat any of it! We still left a really good tip for our waitress since she really tried over and over to make things right. Sad that a place I’ve been going for many years will no longer be on my favorite places to eat list. To me, if the manager really cared, he should have made certain that the second round of food and the beans were actually hot before serving them to us. I mean really, if it were me, I would have stuck everything in a microwave just to cover my butt! This guy has NO business being a manager! Not naming the manager here as we have already reported both his name and the Hulu Hut to the health department. Just beware that something is seriously wrong with this place. Definitely not at all like it used to be!

The food at this restaurant is awesome. It is different from most other restaurants due to their use of grilled pineapple and plum sauce. I had the beef fajitas and also tried tge Hawaiian burger, both of which were excellent. The lake side seating is another reason why we loved this place. Their cloth napkins however seemed to be kept closed somewhere very long and had a strange odor to them. We exchanged them for paper napkins.

A large group of our friends decided to eat here last weekend, and somehow I had never visited before! There was about a 40 minute wait which was understandable with it being Saturday and out party being large, and service was relatively friendly throughout. The food is passable, however. I had the chicken fajita wrap/sandwich and it was nothing to write home about. My friends ordered the fajitas, quesadillas and even the grilled salmon and everyone seemed to think the food was mediocre. Love the location with it being on the lake, however!

Great place to hang by the lake, relax and enjoy the sun in this cute Hawaiian theme bar/restaurant…this restaurant is good for the view but drinks and food are mediocre, don’t expect the best and a little bit pricy but the view is what makes this place a 4 star, service is quick here and if you can’t find parking, park across the street

Hula Hut is the Hawaiian version of Chuy’s. Mexican-ish food served as big as your face with some cold margaritas! Dock your boat and head to the outdoor patio for some good people watching and all you care to eat chips. The salsa is hit or miss, usually hit but sometimes it is super spicy and sometimes super bland. usually delicious though. The queso is a little too runny for me, but the guacamole is good. I like to get big as my face burritos or ordering off menu getting Steak Fajita quesadillas. They are good for small parties but can also handle large groups. Super casual and an Austin institution.

A good friend of mine introduced me to Hula Hut on a trip to Austin a couple of years back, and I’ve been ‘paying it forward’ ever since, taking people I’m traveling with out for ‘Mexonesian’ when in Austin — and they always love it. There’s just something very cool about this place — it’s great to be on the water, the staff is very friendly and attentive, and the drinks are potent. If you’re sitting inside, the décor will take you back to Hawaii in a good, retro-sort of way. The chips and salsa hit the table almost immediately, and you can tell just by looking that there’s someone in the back of the house chopping up tomato after tomato to make this very fresh, tasty salsa. Our server made sure we had a continuous supply of chips… and drinks, too, the Cazatini being our cocktail of choice this time around. The food is consistently good, with the folks I was there with this time around giving thumbs-up all the way around. The Texas Nachos are individually assembled, onto huge tortillas, and they’ll make ‘em spicy for you, if you’re like me and like a little bit of heat. One of my friends had the tortilla soup, and I swear that the bowl was the size of a small soup toureen — very hearty, full of chicken and very tasty. For me, it was the roasted chicken pipeline enchilada, very flavorful and with just the right amount of queso blanco on it to compliment the filling.(Big plus for corn tortillas instead of flour ones!) Even as the evenings start to get cool in Austin, this is a great place to hang out with some friends at a table out on the deck(don’t worry, they have heaters), grab some drinks, and enjoy a little bit of Hawaii in Texas.

Came by for lunch on a Thursday pm. Atmosphere is nice, although first impression left me lacking, as the waiter in our area served every table around us, yet didn’t even acknowledge us. I finally waved down another waiter, and got service from yet another waitress. Menu was dirty and had dried food on it. Ordered a hula burger and a blue Hawaii mixed drink. Wife had a totally tubular enchilada thing(chicken w/avocado). Overall, just average. I expected more from my burger as it came with pineapples, bacon, and cheese. Patty didn’t have much flavor and pineapples tasted from the can.

After a long day of studying at Mozart’s next door, my friends and I were ridiculously hungry. The only close food place was Hula Hut, so we gave it a try. First things first: I don’t think this place is meant for college scrubs like me. The main audience seemed like an older crowd, and we felt out of place. The prices weren’t college-budget friendly, and the food wasn’t anything extraordinarily special, to be honest. I ordered the salmon tacos, I think. Two more of my friends ordered tacos(chicken), and two ordered the Saturday special(taco salad or something). None of us were crazy impressed. I mean, it was good, but not $ 10 – 15 good. Maybe $ 7 – 10 good. One of my friends really really didn’t like the chicken tacos, so beware. They were dry and definitely not worth the price. Service was pretty good though, which is why they didn’t get 2 stars. Our waitress was funny and fast. She brought us multiple rounds of free chips and salsa. The environment is also really fun and luau-y, just like you’d expect. Music was loud, conversations were loud, but it was fun. Probably won’t be back, mostly because I can’t spend that much on a meal I don’t love love love. Maybe for future dates or something? Not sure.

Went to Hula Hut with a group of friends on a Sunday mid-morning. It was a bit hard to find, and couldn’t catch parking in the lot but there are also metered spots on the street. It’s a nice location right on the water, with indoor and outdoor seating and an outdoor bar. I was surprised to see one tv indoors, so we did catch some of the game(no Wifi though) Standard Tex-Mex fare, with very large portions. I did like my chicken quesadilla, very tasty. However, most of the food there does not seem to be made to order. When I asked for no sour cream, I was informed the quesadillas were all«pre-made» first thing in the morning. Luckily we got there early so they tasted fine, who knows what state they’d be in a few hours later though. Service was okay, and our server was sweet, but we did have to ask for things multiple times. And some of my cutlery was not well-washed. Overall, this place was just okay. The best thing about it was the location on the water.

Been here twice and both time not really thrilled by the food. I mean it is okay but you are in Austin there are much better alternatives. I do enjoy the view from the bar. That is really the only thing I would go back here for, everything else was just slightly disappointing.

This place has a feel between Mexican and Hawaian. I would give it a five for the lake view. Unfortunately, when we first walked in and was greeted by the hostess, and the first impression wasn’t good. The ladies at the hostess stand could use some training in the customer service side of things. We were told that the wait for an outside table would be 10 minutes. After waiting 15 minutes, we decided to take up a table inside, near the bar area. I walked around the patio area and noticed a lady making homemade tortillas. Had I have known that before ordering, I would’ve ordered something that came with a handmade tortilla. Instead, I had ordered a salad. On the menu, it said that the salad came with fish bites, but mine was a large piece of fish a top the salad. No complaints about it though. The fish was cooked perfectly. The entire salad was delicious, I was satisfied with my choice after all. The pint sized margarita is a must!

A unique(if kitschy) place with a great view and vibe! Right on Lake Austin, I recommend sitting outdoors and getting to appreciate the amazing view! As a «Tiki-Mex» restaurant, the food is fun — the vegetarian options include«tree hugger nachos,» mango-poblano chile quesadillas, salads, a veggie burger, veggie fajitas, and veggie enchiladas and«tubular taco.» Pretty great cockails, too! Plenty of parking when you account for the lot across the street! This place is a ton of fun! The food isn’t amazing, but it’s a great experience!

Very hard to believe I have been coming here for over 20 years. I remember how cool it was when it first opened and it still is. I may have missed visiting in a few of those years but I keep coming back. Obviously the #1 reason to visit is to be near the lake/at the lake/above the lake. Yes this is quite attractive within the city limits. If they build it they will come and come they did. The wait to get a table on the weekend is nearly an hour, the same way back in the 90’s. I used to come for the location, the drinks and the ambience. Now I comer for the same reasons but I actually appreciate the food. Today it was a rack of ribs. I asked for no sauce and double salad sans potatoes. They dry rubbed the ribs and they could stand up to plenty of local BBQ joints, seriously. The margaritas were good, the service was good and the food was good. It is what it is and quite good at it. I probably should visit a little more often when I’m feeling that at the lake in the city yearning.

As good as it gets! This restaurant is right on the water and the outside decks span the entire restaurant. The place was packed and we still got our food within a reasonable amount of time. Let me start by saying that the chips and salsa are both homemade. They are absolutely fabulous and the salsa really has a kick, plus a little bit of sweetness which I think is from pineapple. They make their own tortillas! And they’re fabulous. My bf has the Steak Tubular Taco. This is no taco! It’s a massive burrito with steak, mushrooms, peppers, and two kinds of cheese. It all blends perfectly for a taste that’s incredible. The retried beans and rice are great as well. I had the salad combo with the Seasar(how they spell it) and chicken tacquitos. The salad is not a traditional Caesar; it has corn, almonds and tortilla strips that add great flavor. It’s not the usual dressing as well, but quite good. The chicken tacquitos were good, not overly fried. Speaking of fried, they have a fried ice cream that’s supposed to be amazing. I’ll be back for that!
