Ignite Fitnez

I’ve never been much of a gym rat, but Ignite is very close to home and I thought I’d give it a try. My husband and I both joined this fall and have been so happy with the gym! I’m there several times a week now. I like that it’s small and feels like a neighborhood gym. You see lots of regulars there and get to know them and the staff. There’s a limited number of machines and lots of gear for serious weightlifting. As a newbie to weightlifting, I was feeling intimidated but didn’t need to. Chris, who teaches the Iron Therapy class, is great at patiently working with people to ensure that they get form correct and get a good workout to meet their goals. Everyone else at the gym, staff and patrons, has been nice and encouraging. I’ve never felt a judgmental vibe anywhere in that gym, which is much appreciated. There’s a variety of classes including yoga, boxing, and more. I think everyone who likes to exercise can find a place here.

I have been a member of Ignite for about a year now and really love it. I joined because of where I worked but have since moved offices and remained a member even though it’s out of the way for me.
They have really different classes than the usual gym (no zumba here), creative art on the walls and a collection of fitness equipment for people that allows you to train in ways I didn’t know were possible. It still has traditional equipment as well but I discover new, more effective ways to train there just based on watching other people use the different tools available.
The staff is also incredibly helpful and friendly if you ever have any questions or need advice. The owner, Inez, is really nice and down to Earth. You can tell her staff really enjoys where they work and it reflects in the whole vibe of the gym.
Side note: Inez is also a welder and she welded a lot of the weight room equipment herself — which I thought was really cool!

I cannot say enough good things about the staff at Ignite. First of all, I love that this gym is not a chain. It’s locally owned and operated and has the perfect amount of Austin charm. Oh, did I mention it has parking?! I repeat. It not only has parking, but an entire parking lot is located behind the gym– it’s a South Congress miracle. In all seriousness, the best part is the Buns ‘N Guns ladies class taught by Ashley Haas. The class is offered at various times during the week, which makes it convenient, but Ashley is a wonderful instructor. She motivates and pushes you to your limits. The classes are small enough where she can come around to everyone and make sure you have good form and are doing the exercises properly. To anyone who is looking for a new gym, or a great group class, this is your place! Ashley, my buns and guns thank you.

This gym is AMAZING! I just moved here and have been trying out some different gyms. Not only are the classes here awesome, the staff is incredibly nice and helpful! I have a back injury and they went out of their way to ensure that I was safe and using proper technique. It is a bit pricey for me at the moment, but I am hoping that once I decide to dedicate to a gym this is the place to go! Thanks Ignite staff-​you are AWESOME! Hope to see you soon!
Only con: You have to bring your own towel to shower after class.

When I first walked in, it just happened to be the grand opening. I took 1 walk around the facility and immediately purchased a gym membership. As a fitness enthusiast, I was looking for something that embodied me and my fitness background, something that had access to the running trails, but with an Austin feel to it. Ignite gives me everything from boxing, to space I need for my personal mobility, to the ability to create my own workout via bummper plates, bars, ropes, kb’s, and so much more. Plus, if your an Austin resident, you get
the first week free. No other gym offered that specific special, one that is for the people of Austin. Unique, local, accessible.

So as a trainer in Austin, I hit up a lot of facilities to see what’s out there, and to know my peeps :-) I am not affiliated with ignite in any way, I have visited on class pass several times however. They are extremely cool people. Chika one of the staff I have come across several times is hilarious, knows her stuff, and hands down inspires me to work hard, I also have taken the hi it and flex class several times, the trainer is an aerialist and makes the routines crazy fun. Great gym and great people and I do not say that in my own competitive industry lightly.

First metrics. Since my husband and I started training with Chika in the Spring, I’ve lost 10 pounds, and my husband is 2 inches taller because he’s losing his computer hunch. We’re both retired so we’re not training for Xtreme sports, the Olympics, or a marathon. We want to feel good and be healthy. Chika understands our goals and knows how to help us — keeping us safe and pushing us gently to move forward. Ignite Fitnez welcomes people at all levels of fitness from the intensely fit (and decades younger than us) to an older demographic. When I haven’t known how to use equipment staff and other clients show me how it works and they are all encouraging. We consider it a terrific bargain.

Absolute favorite gym in austin. The location is perfect for me, the instructors are the best — super nice and motivating. I take Ashley’s bunzNgunz and Sarah’s classes and have so much fun. I used to be a no membership girl, trying diff gyms and classes all the time until I tried Ignite, now this is my gym.

I’ve been going to Ignite since it was known as SCAC, and I love the new layout and equipment. No waiting for a bench press, squat rack, dead lift area or pull-​up bar, with the cage setup you can do all of those things in the same space. A lot to love about this gym!

I have been a member at Ignite since November 2014. I tried five different gyms around town and finally found one that I can call home. This gym offers everything that an avid gym-​goer, meathead, yogi, beginner or boxer could really want. the weight room is where i spend most of the time right now and I love it. I work maybe 50 yards from the front door so it is super convenient. I only live a few miles away so even on the weekend I can still ride my bike.
The staff is amazing. They make me feel like family and put up with my shenanigans. The vibes of the place are unreal. You can’t help but feel motivated while you are in there from the atmosphere, to the murals and music. The owner is also in the gym getting it to right next to you and you would never know she is the owner. Super humble and amazing staff.
If you have ever wanted to try yoga, punch a heavy bag, slide through some imaginary water on a rowing machine, swing some kettle bells, use some olympic style weights, or flip a tire inside or out, this is the place for you. You can do all of that in one location and not have to worry about waiting for equipment.
The dumbbells only go to 75lbs. So, if you want to find some 150s and press those up, you may have to stick with the barbell and plates. I also hear people say that the locker rooms are lacking, but gains are not made in the locker room.
Overall, this is the gym I call home and the staff has made me feel like part of the Ignite family. Check out the week trial and see what Ignite Fitnez can do for you.

Ignite is everything a gym should be. There’s no better gym in Austin for an amazing price.
The good: This gym has it all, especially for a power lifter like me. The have squat racks for days! Days, I tell you. I counted at least 12. There’s a room with cardio equipment, one for weight training, one for classes, and large areas for stretching, as well boxing/​fight style classes.
Everything here is shiny and new and very well maintained. In fact, on my first day, they told me if they were missing anything I needed, let them know and they’d try to have it within the week. Say what?! Serious change from my previous gym.
Have I mentioned the squat racks? Love at first sight. Bonus: the owner also owns a welding company and makes them herself. So awesome!
The prices are amazing. They have three tiers. One for gym only, one for classes only, and one for the two combined. All are super affordable, especially for such an awesome facility just across the SoCo bridge.
They also have a large parking lot, so no paying for street parking. The place is never crazy crowded, so you won’t be waiting in line to bench, squat, deadlift, or anything else your fit little heart desires. This place is seriously a slice of gym heaven!
The bad: They don’t always have everything I need for my workout, but as I stated above, they are happy to do whatever they can to make sure you have what you need, so if you find them lacking anything, definitely let them know!
Bottom line: this is an amazing gym for anyone from beginners to competitors. Staff is super friendly and helpful, equipment is clean and in outstanding shape, and they have an awesome variety of equipment sure to please any style and level of fitness. Combine that with their low membership fees and we have ourselves a gym winner! Check them out! You will not regret it!

Excellent place for people with a training mindset. You won’t see oceans of machines and worthless gym toys– you’ll see squat racks, barbells, dumbbells, pull ups bars, and anything else you’ll need to train and train hard. Not a CrossFit gym, but if you needed to get a CrossFit WOD in on the weekends you’d have everything you’d need. There are bumper plates and Oly bars (no platforms, but plenty of floor space), high quality universal squat rigs, kettlebells, medicine balls, dumbbells, and way more– everything you’ll need for a full workout. Highly recommend for drop-​ins and monthly membership options.

I love this gym! Super friendly staff and all the trainers that I’ve had definitely kicked my butt!! Leslee that teaches the Bunzngunz class is awesome! I would definitely recommend trying it out.

My experience at this gym was great until I went to cancel my membership because I was suddenly leaving Austin to take a new job.
When I went in to fill out the cancellation paperwork, the girl at the front desk was super friendly and assured me that I had made the 30 day cancellation period and that my last bill would be in January. It’s now mid-​February and guess who shows up on my bank statement? Ignite Fitnez.
I called them up and very nicely explained my situation (that I had been told my account was closed and I would not be billed, that I had not used the gym since mid-​January, and that I didn’t even live in Austin anymore) and the woman who answered said that I had missed the 30 day cancellation period and I owed a bill for February.
I expected better from a small gym like this one. Do not recommend.

Pros:
The equipment is great and versatile: custom racks, free weights, body-​weight based equipment, punching bags and more. They have sledgehammers, kettle-​bells, and tires too and there is plenty of room to workout. You won’t see unique equipment like this at many other gyms. There is also a great sense of community among staff and clients.
Cons:
The hours are limited. This alone is worth 2.5 stars to me. I recommend creating a key-​faub, entry-​system like at Anytime Fitness. Some people honestly just want to use the equipment.
Neutral Points: They could switch up the music more (or shut it off altogether) but it’s not too bad. There is also an emphasis on group and class workouts. It sometimes gets a little packed from 5pm to close on weekdays, with the after-​work crowd and the group classes.

If you want a gym that is full of positive motivation and great people. Ignite is the place! Inez the owner is such a badass!!! You must check this place out. Ladies sign up for the Bunz and Gunz class with Ashley Haas. The class is a blast and you get a great work out.

I greatly appreciate the small gym vibe.
I have been a member of Anytime Fitness and Gold’s, but this gym has found a pleasant balance between the two. It has the small gym vibe, but with way better music, yet it is big enough that you don’t feel cramped.
I started going to the Ladies TNT group class and– I am literally 50lbs heavier than all them pretty girls. However, I never felt judged or weird. Inez gives us a great work-​out but lets us go at our own pace. Even though I was last finishing up, I still felt great and supported the whole time. I need to make it clear that Inez is not a cheerleader (which I like) she gives genuine and positive feedback. I never felt any pretense or fake encouragement that some people do when they feel uncomfortable around someone bigger.
The place is clean– even the bathroom!

My background with the gym:
Became a member during previous ownership and was happy with everything. I lifted alone so I don’t know what the classes or trainers are like besides that they were all nice and their students seemed happy.
New owners bought the gym and I didn’t really notice a difference for a few months. Then the following happened.
They increased my monthly fee by about 37%. I was OK with this and continued my membership.
I brought up the fact that my father had paid $ 150, as a birthday present, for me to get some lifting training sessions. I was then emailed by the new owner, who informed me that gift certificates purchased during the previous ownership will not be honored. I explained that I was not informed of this before the change but she refused to listen to reason.
The silly thing is that I would have been happy if she had let me use the paid credit towards the monthly fee, which would not cost her anything. I think I only worked out once the previous couple of months so it really wouldn’t have cost her anything.
I told them to cancel my membership and I unsubscribed from their email list. Today I received an email asking me to review then on Unilocal.So here is your review.

Not a member. I visited. If you want to lift heavy, the dumb bells only go up to 75lbs, and they have one cable machine, but no other machines. Lots of rack and bar set-​ups though, but I didn’t inspect them much. Minimal and old equipment for the cardio machines, but that’s not their focus. Seems their focus is mostly on some boxing type training, but that’s not my area of focus so I can’t judge, but it didn’t look like enough room to spar.

Well, I just graduated college, where I had a free gym membership for 4 years. Granted, it was really shitty, but moving to Austin, I needed to find a gym fast, lest I let my gains disappear.
First, I tried anytime fitness. No bueno. The gym was weirdly quiet and made me feel like I was going to break something. I like my gyms a little gritty, so I’m not afraid to swear and get a little dirty. Also, anytime locked me into a contract of 6 months (their shortest) of which I’m still a part of.
Fast forward a few months. I find a gym only a few blocks from the startup I work at. They have a free trial period, so I take the bite; thus, my time at ignite was born.
Ignite Fitnez is super affordable and offers minimal distractions. It’s all business, which is what I like out of a gym. Tons of squat racks and benches. The staff is super friendly and make you feel right at home. They have a variety of classes, from yoga to boxing and beyond.
I’m really happy with this gym.
