Fresh, Farm to Table and Fabulous Jack Allen’s is special. We wandered in late on a 95º Austin evening. The place was a tad chilly, like a meat locker, so we sat on the patio. I promised Katy, our charming server no doubt named after the railroad, I would write this review because she delivered a fun and delicious evening for our group. The farm fresh concept is smartly presented. One of us is known for having an obsession with all things avocado so we started with the guacamole dip(with pumpkin seeds). Oh so good. Even the tortilla chips were cut like someone thought about how dip dishes should be scooped. I had the fish tacos. They were righteous, not in a religious way, but in the best way. My friends, respectively, enjoyed grilled salmon and roasted chicken. I did not ask for samples. I restrained myself. You probably will not. Let yourself go.

Love their fresh tortillas and their specials for lunch are always so reasonably priced and fresh. Their happy happy our is awesome too! Great drinks and food. I heard their breakfast is amazing and can’t wait to try it.

i have never had a decent meal at this restaurant(except for” to go” hamburger). The chicken fried steak is one of the worst in Austin. I suggested to the manager that he should consider one or two reserved parking spaces for people picking up «to go» orders. His response was«never gonna happen… get over it.» Not a good way to treat customers.

The pepper crusted ribeye dining feature was wonderful. Still recommend chicken fried short rib to any newbee’s

Davenport village has a new neighbor. Maybe not that new but I’m stoked that I don’t need to drive all the way past Oak Hill to get the famous Jack Allen’s brunch. Farm to table specialties make Jack Allen’s the Texas food destination. The food is good without being too fancy or fussy. Big salads, burgers, chicken fried steak, all are executed well but they all come with Jack Allen’s twist. The Jack Burger is one of their specialties. It’s got all the normal burger stuff but it’s just seasoned well and executed likewise. Whereas it’s hard to mess up a hamburger, it’s also hard to get one done well. Jack Allen’s has figured it out. Their Sunday Brunch Buffet has become somewhat of a legend due to the wide selection of mouth watering entrees to choose from.($ 17.99) Chicken to pasta, green chili pork to migas, there’s something for everyone. They even have some lighter breads, grains, fruits and yogurt did that’s more your thing. They will also bring over eggs made to order, bacon, biscuits, and pancakes off the menu. I’ll definitely be back. Jack — save my seat!

I’ve been to 2 other JAK’s in Austin/RR area. This one was just as good as all the rest. AND… Jack Allen was there eating with his family, taking pictures out front. It was wild — I saw him on the book cover and was like, «Hey…I think that IS Jack Allen!» and, it was! I didn’t say anything(as he was with a huge group of folks), but it was cool nonetheless to see him in person, eating in his own place. That black cherry mojito is seriously one of my fav drinks around. I will definitely continue to patronize all of his restaurants – quality food and service in every single one!

I went here for a graduation dinner with a large group. I’d like to split my rating in two parts: food/drinks and customer service. 1) The food and drinks were incredible. The ingredients all tasted fresh, rich, and complimented one another exquisitely. To drink I had a Moscow mule(in the Copper mug) and I had their house Mexican martini. Both were made very well and served cold. I was very satisfied with both and would get them again. For food, the pimento cheese and cracker they give the tables is pretty small. It tastes delicious but then again it is so small, one bite and you’re done. I would prefer if they either did not give the table the pimento cheese and cracker or if they gave more crackers. However, it still tasted great– I only wish I could have more! For an appetizer we had the smashed guacamole. Although the name is redundant, the flavors were too good to be true. The avocados were perfectly ripe and the pumpkin seeds were a great addition. We ordered 3 for the table of 14 and that was a good amount. For my main meal, I got the 5 cheese macaroni and chicken. This was served very hot but once it cooled down, it tasted incredible. The chicken was perfectly cooked and tasted very fresh. I would DEFINITELY suggest getting the smashed guac and the Mac and cheese. 2) The service was not the best. We originally had reservations for 8:45 but we weren’t seated till 9:30. We also were placed in our own room, which was appreciated but the room was freezing. We had to ask 5 times to have the temperature lowered. The waiting staff was fine, nothing special. I understand they were very busy this night with graduation dinners, so I assume going to the restaurant on a regular evening for a normal-sized party would be just fine. I would definitely go back, I decided on a 5 star rating because the food and drinks were A1 and the service was fine, although not the best since it seemed like the waiting staff was overwhelmed because of the other large parties. I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes good tasting American food!

Came here for brunch. Got mimosa, may be over priced. $ 4 for one? You can get for $ 1 at the park, and tastes the same. But the food is really good! I could tell they are prepared and cooked by each, instead of the typical buffet place. Cooked all at once. I will come back for food but will not get drinks.

I’ve gone to Jack allens in oak hill multiple times and have always loved it. My one star rating for the 360 location is regarding a customer service incident. I went with my parents one Sunday afternoon– including my 76 year old dad– and we were seated outside. It was kind of nippy outside and my dad gets cold easily so we asked to sit next to the fireplace. The hostess was a young girl and said that should be fine but she was going to go inside and check. My dad had already sat down – and keep in mind he is 76, it’s really not super easy or comfortable for him hop up and down out of chairs– but the hostess came and apologized and said we could not sit at that table bc they had a larger party coming and they needed to combine the table we requested with another table to accommodate the larger party. I didn’t think that was very cool, but we got up nonetheless. Including my struggling 76 year old dad. Well, LESSTHAN10 minutes later a small group of 3 people go and sit down at the table next to the fireplace that we had just gotten up from! What the hell??? Honestly, this happened a couple of months ago and I am still angry so I decided to post. I went in and told the hostesses that that I didn’t appreciate this, and one of them apologized and said it was her fault, but they didn’t really care. I was really disappointed with the lack of consideration and care and forethought for a 76 year old man and his accommodations. Super disappointed. And angry. Two very enthusiastic thumbs down.

Still the one. JAK is all about fresh, local, and high-quality. It’s not a place for the indecisive because everything on the menu looks, sounds, and IS fantastic. I’m a big fan of their Pumpkin Seed Pesto Chicken. The chicken is juicy and flavorful and comes with a savory portobella and artichoke mixture. A sprinkling of pumpkin seeds adds just the right texture. The patio is amazing on a nice evening and they always manage to attract happy, passionate servers.

Tried out Sunday brunch and it was packed – be sure to set up a reservation online or give them a call or you may be waiting for a table. I was quickly seated at my table and my waiter was great in giving me a rundown of how brunch is done at the restaurant – most items are at the breakfast bar but some other items need to be ordered from the kitchen. This includes their silver dollar pancakes, biscuits with gravy, and eggs(e.g. scrambled, sunny side up, etc.). The buffet bar has plenty to choose from: migas, chicken fried chicken, house cured ham, and fresh fruit. For 17+ dollars for an all you can eat brunch, it was a pretty good deal!

Jack Allen’s is one of the newest, successful and trendy restaurants in Austin. We are fans of the Jack Allen’s on 360 located near Westlake and 360. Valet parking is offered and needed during busy times, which are frequent. They offer a very unique and delicious with the best«fried» entrees in town. They can fry almost everything. Please bring a big appetite for most of the entrees. The exception was a special offering of a lobster roll. They were very proud that the entrée was brought back after it was offered for a period after opening. While it was perfectly prepared and very tasting, after about three small bits, the lobster was gone. The service is always excellent and professional. The prices are surprisingly reasonable for such a successful restaurant. Get there early because it is very popular.

Moonshine has been my top brunch place since I moved to Austin, but Jack Allen’s is sure giving them a run for their money. I was so happy when they opened this location. I had heard such great things about the 71(Oak Hill) and Round Rock locations but neither were exactly convenient for me. This location is right down the street from my church so it’s perfect for Sunday brunch. I’ve also heard good things about their happy hour so I need to get over here one evening. I have been for brunch twice now and both times I’ve left so full because I can’t help myself. Everything is so delicious! It’s definitely best if you make reservations in advance. You can do so on their website without even having to call in. They’re flexible if you need to change your reservation as well. My favorite brunch items are probably the red chile beef enchiladas, house cured ham, wild boar frito pie, potato salad, and the tomato basil pie. Nothing is bad though. They even have Round Rock donuts. I also like to order the dollar pancakes at the table. I recommend ordering a bloody mary or a paloma as well. It also doesn’t hurt that they have the cutest manager(I think that’s his position) at this location. My friends and I can’t help but giggle over how attractive he is whenever he passes by! :oD If that alone isn’t reason to come back, the food will get me back for sure.

Hands down best Sunday brunch in Austin. For the price of 17.99, Food quality and choices are phenomenal. Allen was our host and he was fantastic and kind. You can make reservations online and I recommend it as it gets packed by 10:30. We will definitely be back to try their normal menu. And this is definitely a great spot to bring out of towners. Update 3÷13÷16: came back… still great food great staff! Shout it to Mahmood for taking great care of our family. It’s this type of service that keeps us coming back!

Man, this place was FULL on a Wednesday night! We had a reservation and still had to wait about 15 minutes to get seated. A very popular option in the area! We had the pork belly sliders for our appetizer — extremely tasty, but stacked a bit high and difficult to eat. I’d order them again! My husband ordered the steak — cooked well, but covered with a slightly confusing sauce. We both like our steak clean, so it wasn’t a huge favorite. The potatoes gratin that came on the side were a bit confusing, as they were mashed potatoes with cheese rather than thinly sliced potatoes. Something to consider, for sure! My dad got the chorizo stuffed pork loin(Delicious), my mom got the pumpkin seed chicken(delicious), and I got the fancy chicken salad(wonderful!)We finished our evening with key lime pie, which was standard but really well executed. Great service, good food, but a bit far from me to head to often.

If you decide to give this place I try, I highly recommend going during their brunch buffet(which is only on Sundays from 10:00AM — 2:00PM). This option provides you with a broad perspective of what Jack Allen has to offer — a smörgåsbord of «Southern-inspired flavors, crossed with the spice of southwestern cuisine» served by a team of very friendly waiters and waitresses. The brunch buffet starts off at a hefty $ 16.99 price tag, but that includes locally sourced ingredients to form dishes like chicken fried chicken, chicken fried pork tenderloin, migas, enchilada casserole, green chile pork & eggs, tomato & basil pie, jalapeño sausage, «Mama’s Sunday chicken», cured ham, salads, fruits, and more. Even their donuts are locally sourced from Round Rock Donuts! The buffet menu also includes these addicting little silver dollar pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and eggs. The pancakes are so good you don’t even need syrup. There were lots of people during the Sunday brunch. A lot of people were dressed in their clean Sunday clothe so it definitely didn’t have that Denny’s or iHop feel to it. Although there were a lot of people, they were able to seat us(party of three) pretty quickly. Overall, Jack Allen’s did a marvelous job providing delicious locally sourced foods and good service. I will definitely come back for more!

I’ve been hearing about Jack Allen and his kitchen for a couple of years now, but I never made it to one until recently. This one has taken over the building that used to be Trento(RIP), so it was easy to find. Friend already had a booth, so we ordered some guac(with pumpkin seeds) and a side of delicious salsa while we waited for another friend. The house-made pimento(complimentary) is also tasty. The waiter talked me into a frozen margarita, which turned out to be a great choice. It was so damn good. At lunch. I feel your judgment, and I raise you an eyebrow. We all got different dishes, and everything was great. Service was awesome, and the ambience was a polished casual. I can’t say that I’ll drive the 30 – 45 to one of these locations(can you build one central or on the east side?), but if I’m in the area, this will be my pick.

Tonight we had Crab Gratin, Baja Fish Tacos, and 5-Cheese Mac & Chicken. All were really good, however, keep in mind that I was in a great mood, so life in general on this night was roses. Which leads me to the fact that this restaurant is a great date destination. The crab gratin is a very good spinach artichoke mixture with crab and topped with baked bread crumbs. 4-star The Baja fish tacos were cooked to perfection and served with thin, double tortillas. I’m pretty sure the tortillas were corn, however, they may have been a corn-flour mixture? I dunno? This plate is on the lighter side and is exactly what I wanted after filling up on crab gratin. 4-star. The 5-cheese Mac & Chicken was the real winner. The portion size is large enough to share, however, is good enough to make you want to devour the entire dish in one sitting — by yourself. The grilled white meat chicken was outstanding, the macaroni was cooked to perfection and the 5-cheese topping was outstanding. 5-star. Pro Unilocal tip: our outstanding waiter,(D is the 1st letter of his name) recommended substituting fried chicken for grilled chicken in the 5-Cheese Mac & Chicken dish. He said this kicks the dish up ten notches. This is an off menu substitution that the cooks may squawk at, and very well may refuse, so ask politely and hope for the best. I’ll be back. 1 Michelin Star. 5-Star on Unilocal

My first experience with Jack Allen’s Kitchen was at the Austin Food and Wine Festival and it was quite tasty so I knew that this would be a great experience. My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday and it was great. I ordered the rainbow trout and he got the sloppy joe burger. I also had an Austin Rita since I was feeling fancy and it was really tasty and fresh. The grilled ruby trout was delicious– I didn’t realize how similar it is to salmon(my favorite fish) so it was a lovely surprise. The fish was cooked perfectly I enjoyed the textures of the sun dried tomato walnut pesto and the apple pecan relish. The Sloppy Jack burger was equally delicious except a little messier. The onion rings on it were thin and crispy and the meat was very flavorful. If you know me, you know I love fries and the fries were. A-MAZING! So golden, crispy, and delicious. I got a scrumptious chocolate cake with raspberry sauce for dessert. It was rich and creamy and chocolatey. What’s not to love about that? Thanks, Jack Allen for a wonderful birthday dinner. Will definitely be coming back for another round of deliciousness.

When we first moved to Austin, a lot of people told us about Jack Allen’s. What we didn’t know was that it’s a farm to table restaurant with their very own cookbook. If you happen to purchase it when Jack is there he will even sign it for you which we thought was pretty cool. Our server brought one over so we could thumb through it. Lots of great recipes in there, but the encyclopedia size of it makes it a tad daunting. The good news is you don’t have to be a whiz in the kitchen to enjoy their food as you can simply make a reservation! Originally we wanted to try them for brunch, but since we had errands to run in the area anyway we figured why not have dinner. As we were looking over the menu, we were brought a sample of their house made pimento cheese. To be honest, I have no idea what pimento cheese is except to know the stuff from a can my grandmother used to serve me on celery sticks as a kid. This tastes nothing like that junk. It was rich, tangy, and full of flavor. Highly recommend you try some for yourself. We also ordered the red chile fries to share as an appetizer. Orgasmic is the best way I can describe this plate. They toss the fries in a savory red chile sauce then top them with scallions, lime juice, cotija cheese, cilantro, and provide a side of garlic aioli for dipping. You know what I want to do with this dish? Eat it with my bare hands alone in my closet where no one can judge me when I lick the plate. Just phenomenal. My husband got fish tacos for his meal while I went with a lighter house salad and cup of soup. Their soup of the day was a spicy corn and potato chowder which was out of this world. The house salad was extremely fresh and even though I asked for ranch, the server was kind enough to bring out a side of green goddess dressing as well suggesting I try it. It’s similar to a ranch but with more fresh herbs mixed in. I used that instead as he was right, it was much better. Their cup of soup by the way was the size any other restaurant would consider a bowl. They certainly don’t skimp on portions here and I love that. I don’t know if you can call this a chain restaurant but it’s by far the best chain I’ve ever been to. My husband even dubbed this meal one of the top 3 he’s had in Austin! We are fans to say the least. We will be returning very soon for brunch and to try dessert too.
