Over the Christmas holidays(2013) my husband and I travelled out of state. On Christmas Eve my husband had a funny sensation on his forehead. We didn’t know what it was and we didn’t go to an emergency clinic until 5 days had passed. Unfortunately, when we did go to the clinic, my husband was diagnosed with shingles. Long story short… the shingles went into his left eye. Shingles can cause permanent eye damage. Before we flew home, we made an appointment with Dr. Kalpaxis, as he has been our ophthalmologist for about 15 years. Dr. Kalpaxis is one of the most caring and helpful doctors we have ever had. Things were so bad and frightening that Dr. Kalpaxis came into his office to see my husband on New Year’s Day. Another time during the ordeal, he came into his office for us on a Sunday. How many doctors can’t be bothered? He made us feel like my husband was his most important patient. The true test of a doctor is when things are really bad. Dr. Kalpaxis has such a great personality with a most calming demeanor. One feels like you are in good hands. Tip: if you are old enough to get a shingles vaccine, GETIT! You could lose your eyesight or hearing from this horrible virus. Average age of getting shingles is 53. Hope you never have this problem.
