Lunar Mattress

It took a little time – the owner was out of town – but these guys turned it around for us and made it a positive experience. We really appreciate that.
They picked up the stained new mattress we’d been sleeping on a week or so and brought us a brand new one that had been properly sealed and shipped. (It seems the manufacturer has been sending them the mattresses shipped only in plastic wrap, no cardboard, so it’s a supplier issue… Glad they were able to look into that and get it fixed.) They threw in a very soft king sheet set for our troubles, and Kevin (the cool sales guy who helped re-​deliver), even helped me make the new bed back up.
I think we’ll be happy with this new one! We’d already been sleeping better – my husband loves it and even with my janky sad discs, I’ve been sleeping well!

I herniated a disc a few weeks ago and my old mattress was way too soft. Like so soft you sink into the middle and can’t easily get out of once you’re there. Great for sleeping in on a Sunday. Not so good for a hurt back! So … I decided that although my air mattress was getting me thru my injury ok, it was time to replace my mattress.
I popped by Lunar Mattress after work today and my salesperson was friendly and helpful. Within about 10 minutes I found what I wanted (which is the one he recommended in my price range). I made the purchase. They delivered just a few hours later.

My old mattress was a good mattress. It was queen sized, and the first real bed I’d had since being an adult. (Previously sleeping on futons, floors and couches). I got good rest on it, and had other good times that a gentleman shouldn’t discuss. But it had seen better days. And it had a dog bed forcefully dug into it.
So I needed something new, and this was the place that Unilocal recommended.
The store seems like it’s split in two-​a yard-​sale esque collection of random furniture and a bunch of mattresses. I got no pressure or anything upon walking in, so I looked at mattresses and sat and layed down on each, trying to find my new nest. They didn’t have model I wanted in king size, so I had to wait a couple days.
I sleep on the bed I ordered here (at a very reasonable price). You know that sort of sleep you get after a long day’s physical exhaustion? That’s how I’m sleeping now, even if I’m not totally wiped out.
One point was that the delivery arrived much later than I expected, which pushed back some of my evening plans. Also, I had no idea about modern mattress compression technology. If I’d have known that a king size mattress was squeezed into a box I could fit in the backseat of my Civic, I’d have not bothered with delivery. Still, even with the modest (and all-​to-​late-​realized to be unnecessary) delivery fee, the price still beats other mattress stores.

Walked in. Got mattress in less than 10 minutes for a decent price. Got it delivered 1 hour later to my house. Sleeping on it as I write this review. Can’t ask for more. 5 stars.

We tried to buy a mattress here and it was a very mixed experience.
Good things first: the owners and the other staff person we dealt with were all very friendly and professional. When we had a problem, they did try to fix it and were very fair to us, including refunding our money without a restocking fee when it did not work out. So I would not say avoid doing business here, because sometimes things just don’t work out, and the test of a business is how they react. And these folks handled it with class.
However…
We went in specifically to buy a more eco-​friendly, health-​friendly mattress. Our kiddo picked out the one he liked best from our choices, and we ordered. And waited. And waited, several days past when it was supposed to be delivered — including one day we canceled plans to be home because the delivery driver was supposedly coming by, but turns out he didn’t show up for work. It took so many phone calls to get this bed here.
When the mattress finally arrived, it reeked like a chemical spill. We had looked online before ordering to research the type of memory foam used, and it was reputed as one of the lowest offgassing types — plus we were prepared to air it out for a few days. Didn’t help. If you left it in the room with the door closed for a day, when you opened the door you could taste the nasty stuff in the air. When we called Lunar Mattress to check in, their suggestion was to spray the entire mattress with Febreze. Which is exactly what you want to hear when you’ve ordered a «green» mattress? We were also assured that it wasn’t offgassing any more at that point, but it was just the smell that gets into the outside from all the factory chemicals. Also not what you want to hear.
They did bring us a different mattress from the same company to try out at no delivery charge, but it reeked just as badly as the first one. We had to get the carpet professionally cleaned in the bedroom to get the smell out completely. So between that cost and the delivery charge, we were out a decent amount of money for having no bed. And the «troubleshooting» process also took a lot of phone calls, most of which were returned a few days later than they said they would be. I got the impression that their organizational system could use some work.
I’m not trying to be mean here, but I wouldn’t really recommend this as a place for eco-​friendly /​health-​friendly bed shopping.

Super helpful and knowledgeable staff. Didn’t feel like they were trying to trick us or upsell us. Very honest about what they liked/​didn’t like about the mattresses. Just a very chill and cool couple. We laid around for a bit and then decided on an amazing memory foam Milly mattress. They suggested some memory foam pillows too. My back feels better already! And he didn’t charge us for delivery since we’re down the street. Mattress was ordered on Saturday and delivered Wednesday!
Overall an amazing experience!

Did I really know what type of mattress I wanted when walking into Lunar Mattress? Nope!
Did the amazing proprietors guide me to The One within 20 minutes? You bet.
Did the price point knock the socks off of just about everyone else? Most definitely.

After shopping around at probably every mattress store in Austin and comparing prices, I ended up finding the best deal on a comfortable and inexpensive mattress at Lunar Mattress. The folks there are super nice, no pushing at all, and just wait kindly and answer any questions you may have. They actually had a better deal on the mattress I ended up getting than another store that carried it. My budget was about $ 300 and I got a Corsicana (Texas company) full mattress for just about that and I’m super happy with it. It was the second-​to-​least expensive spring mattress they had and I’d highly recommend it for people looking to spend about that. They have a soft and firm version of it at Lunar and I got the firm.
Nice folks, no BS, and good mattresses that aren’t over-​priced.

I went in here recently looking for a memory foam mattress. The owner, Dan, was very friendly and helpful and didnt try to push anything too pricey on me. I had already gone to a few other stores up north but none of them could beat Lunar’s price. I will definitely be going back here for a bed for my guest room soon. 5 stars!

I was at work today, and out of the blue my phone rings. Its Lunar Mattress! Somehow they lost my contact information, and didn’t know how to contact me when my box spring came in. They just happened to see my review here on Unilocal!,and were able to pull up my information and contact me. :) I am currently on my complete set, and this bed is even more comfortable than before! I am so happy!

I got a great deal and the people there were very helpful. There was no sales pressure either which is always nice too. ;) I’d definitely recommend them!

Three cheers for lunar mattress! Spoke with Dan on the phone. He was very helpful. He gave me an amazing deal on a high quality, name brand mattress. (undersold SamsClub by over $ 200) I didn’t even have to leave my house. I didn’t think customer service existed like this anymore. The fact they are local is a big plus. Everyone should go to lunar mattress!

This place rocks. I’ve been shlepping around looking for the right mattress at the right price and I’ve been to just about every bed store in town. I specifically needed something decent but not fancy, under $ 300, and they were able to swing me a deal.
Other than Charles at Beds Beds and More, Kristen and Dan at Lunar Mattress are the coolest, no pressure sales people I have found in the bed bizz — I have a hard time even calling them sales people, since I felt like asking them to go grab a beer with me after they tied the mattress on top of my car.
From the outside the place looks almost deserted, but go in and try out the beds. You won’t have to deal with any weird bait-​and-​switch ding-​dong crazy sales bull-​loney, just a great selection of incredibly nice beds at affordable prices.
