They do not take credit cards and are very defensive about it. Also, you will need to specify if you want a finished edge, or it will be left raw. The charge was 12 $ to shorten straps on a bathing suit (which I would’ve done myself but my machine is broken and I’m intimidated by the stretchy fabric.) When I went to pick up my bathing suit I overheard him tell another customer that they only take cash and checks. I was surprised since l was not told this when I dropped off my bathing suit. I was pretty annoyed because I’m going out of town and was expecting to bring my suit with me. There was no signage anywhere stating that they do not take credit cards and the other customer seemed quite surprised as well. We both told him that he needs a sign. So I went home and came back the next day with my checkbook. When I commented on the rough edge of the work, he got angry told me to leave his shop, not pay him and not to come back. Not very professional in attitude or work, which is a bummer because they are near my house.

Quick service! A little pricey but detailed work work. Gentleman asked me to try on my dress before I left to ensure that it was what I asked for (and it was) so I left very happy.

What the hell Master Tailors?!
I’ve used Master Tailors on more than one occasion throughout the years and haven’t had any problems. I should note that I’ve only had dress pants altered here. When I went in to have the sleeves taken in on some coats it was $ 86! What?! Is that normal for coat sleeves? He did an excellent job but sleeves aren’t that hard to alter. I think I’ll choose someone else for my alterations from now on.

Great tailor! I’ve had three suits done so far and a handful of dress shirts and all of them fit amazingly. Quick turnaround as well and a fair price. Definitely recommend.

EMERGENCY TAILORING JOB — was turned down by 4 local shops (even after offering to pay more to expedite the job) — Master Tailors (Douglas I guess) took my job on willingly and completed 2 sports coats within 36 hours just as requested. Very prompt work and I am very Pleased and Will be Referring.

Absolutely phenomenal. One of my best-​kept-​not-​meant-​to-​be-​kept-​secrets. I’ve used Douglas for more than 10 years. I’d trust him with any article of clothing. He’s great at what he does. Truly.

Douglas does great work. Most recently he hemmed a pair of jeans for me and took in the waist. I haven’t had a problem with him having stuff ready on time like other reviewers, but I’ve never needed anything completed urgently. He is definitely my go-​to tailor now. He accepts cash or check.

I’m very sorry to say this, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment. Probably the worst tailor in the city. I gave him three shots and each time he was late on the promised date of delivery and the work looked about as good as I could have done myself. Not the original hem and just shoddy work altogether. I’m not sure how he is still in business.

I don’t normally write reviews on here but I felt compelled to share how much I appreciate Master Tailor. The owner is very kind– seems like a genuine hardworking guy. I’ve brought many pairs of pants to him and he always does a great job for a good price and gets it done quickly. He always matches thread color perfectly and I know that I can trust him to do a great job. Would highly recommend!

Douglas is Great! Yes it may take longer to get your stuff done than he originally stated but I have found his work to be very high quality! He’s done work for me taking in the seat in jeans, hemming slacks, even re-​cutting some of my suits and sport coats. I highly recommend his work!

I am changing my review now… I am livid!
I went to Master Tailors after reading their reviews. Everyone seems to LOVE the work he does. The only complaint I saw was quite a few people’s garments were not ready at the proposed pick up date.
I decided to go ahead and chance it. I took my jeans to be hemmed and when I went to pick them up on the date he said they’d be ready, they were not ready… hadn’t even been touched. I overlooked it because I was in no hurry.
Once I finally received my finished jeans, they were PERFECT! I was very impressed with his work! They did not look hemmed or altered in any way. YAAY Now I have a fabulous tailor! (I’m short, so I get a lot of things hemmed.)
Well…after three visits, I have learned not to trust him when he says they will be ready on a certain date… I have yet to see that happen. Each time I went to pick them up, they had not been touched… still hangingin the same spot I left them a week before.
My last visit was my last visit. I took 5 pair of pants in to be hemmed. My boyfriend took me shopping and bought me very expensive clothes that I would never be able to afford on my own. I took them to Master Tailor to be hemmed. Even though he is awful at pick up times, I was VERYconfident in his work and was not afraid to take him my expensive pants.
He said they’d be ready on Dec 29^th (1 week)…I went to pick them up Jan 4^th… they had not been touched. He advised he could complete them that day and I could come back…
I’m guessing he threw them together really fast… the work was horrible two pair of pants are too short and they all look totally hemmed. Looks like the work of a low budget laundry mat tailor. I am so sad! I have ruined these gorgeous EXPENSIVE pants. I cannot replace. I will not be returning to Master Tailor. If any of you have a good tailor, please do share as I am always needing pants hemmed.

I had an incredible experience at Master Tailor. Appearances are deceiving here. I brought in a bridesmaid dress that had a lot of gathers of fabric on the bodice. The bottom gather stuck out almost like a «shelf» on the dress. I brought it in to Douglas & he did a thorough fitting. When I came to pick it up it didn’t look quite right bc the fabric was so heavy. He said he would fix it, & for me to come back later. When I came back he had fixed it perfectly & insisted I not pay him. He is a perfectionist who delivers high quality work& exceptional customer service. Take all of your things to him!!! :)

Doug gets it done, no hassles and reasonable prices.

He did a pretty good job on a couple pairs of 200+ jeans that I had to have taken do to weight loss, and a pair of slacks for the same reason. I would say the quality of work was 8.5÷10
My biggest gripe is:
He gave himself a 12 day window to get them done, and when I showed up on that 12^th day when he said, he hadn’t even started my pants. :(So I had to return the next day. Kind of annoying.
I miss my tailor in Portland. 12.00 for original hems, 17.00 to take in jeans/​slacks, and done in 3 days by herself, and they were PERFECT, but she is now 2000 miles away. :(So I am stuck with master tailors

I’d bought a skirt (part of a very expensive suit) and realized that the way the skirt was cut was very matronly looking. I wanted to get it tapered in on the sides to give it more of a pencil skirt shape. So I looked around at reviews on Unilocal and found Master Tailors. He had the best reviews so I stopped by.
It’s not a fancy place but the work was incredible and it was done within a week for a fair price ($ 28 or $ 30). I was a bit worried because the skirt was lined and I didn’t know how that would come out. You can’t even tell. I’ll be bringing my business back to Master Tailor whenever I need a nip there or a tuck here.

I am standing up in my best friends wedding in a week and I needed to get the dress hemmed that was custom fitted from a dress shop in Boston. I have recently moved to the Austin area and researched many reviews for alterations on Unilocal and decided on Master Tailors. What a GREAT (yet ballsy) decision — especially when it comes to a bridesmaid dress!
The guys name is Douglas (just one guy I think) and he does amazing work. The dress was hemmed EXACTLY where I needed it and you can’t even tell I got it hemmed. The work is flawless and quick. The cost is a little pricier than some, but not outrageous and I personally think it’s 150% worth it for the quality of work. CASH OR CHECK ONLY!
The location is kind of hard to find and it’s small. Just as Mimi L. said in her previous review, there’s not much to it and it is not fancy at all.
I will recommend Master Tailors to anyone who needs someone to go to.

I just got back from Master Tailors where I picked up several pairs of shorts whose waistline I had taken in.
His alterations are undetectable and the fit was amazing.
I also had capris/​bermuda bottoms altered to become shorts, and I am so pleased with how they came out.
He has no problem making any further adjustments to his work.
Don’t underestimate this unassuming place with its no frills set up. Quality work is quality work so you should care less how «fancy» the place is.
I diligently research every service I employ so stop looking for a tailor, save time, and use Master Tailors.

When I first moved here from California I called around to have a few pair of pants hemmed but the prices were about triple what I would have paid back home. I know, I know most things are cheaper here but I just didn’t feel like an alternation should cost the same as the ugly work pant itself so I just used hem tape. A few weeks ago I found a cute dress in a resale shop that had huge arm holes but for $ 7 I couldn’t pass it up. I also had another dress at home that I knew I’d wear more if it were altered from long sleeve to tank. Lastly, I had a jacket with a ripped seam and since it was lined, it wasn’t something I could easily hand sew. So my quest for a new tailor began and lucky for me I found Master Tailors super close to wear I live. He was friendly, efficient, well priced and I’m happy with the result. I will definitely return! Check or cash only though so be prepared.

I had looked for a while to find a good tailor in Austin, and I went through a few before I found this place. He knows his stuff and has been doing it for a long time.
The prices are very reasonable, as is the turnaround time, and the quality is probably among the highest in Austin — I haven’t found a better tailor around here.
No credit cards.

This is a hidden gem in South Austin. I can get my $ 200 Paige jeans hemmed with an original hem (it looks exactly the same as before I got it hemmed) but without that $ 25+ Nordstrom price tag. It’s $ 12.95, and the turnaround can be as fast as one day if you request it, IF the proprietor is not busy. Same for lined J. Crew wool work pants.
Ask for pricing. Some things aren’t practical to get tailored. Be sure to bring your clothes for the least fuss and best estimates.
Douglas is his name. This man takes care of meticulously adjusting your length in the mirror after you try it on in a very spartan dressing «corner,» behind the register. He’ll do a great job for you. You can tell by the neat way he dresses and grooms himself.
When going, be sure to watch for Hill’s Café — Master Tailor’s right across the street from Hill’s in a smallish strip mall facing west, so it’s a little tricky to see it sometimes. The modest glass-​door entrance has a bit of a steep step in it… work those glutes!
