What a mechanic should be.
John, his son James and Floyd have been working on cars since cars became well… cars. They do superb work. They are the last of the mechanics that truly enjoy and seek out problem solving. The do REAL diagnostics and figure out the real problem. They would never replace a bunch of parts and hope. They only use real OEM parts, which, while not cheap allows them to stand behind their work. I even have an extra truck that I work on myself and whenever I mess it up, John and James graciously take it in and make it all perfect without hesitation. (Good people skills too don’t you know)
The biggest thing I learned is that a good mechanic relationship is very stress re leaving. I know it is done once and done right. That is a rare experience.

P. S. To all you DIYer and non-​mechs. Since 1996 all cars are computer controlled. The days where a shade tree mechanic can fix your car are becoming obsolete. They either have the Computer systems specific to that brand (Ford, GM etc) or they are guessing. Be very wary of anyone that can troubleshoot your car’s control systems that does not have this capability. I am an EE by trade and trust me it is all moving to software.

Great service, and as a bonus, John can fill you in on things you’ve always wanted to know (but forgotten to ask) about windmills, monarch butterflies, and much more. I value the honesty and good pricing I always find at Murphy’s and seldom go to the car dealer anymore, even with a new car.

I have been using Murphy’s garage for more than 20 years. They have always, always been fairly priced, done excellent work, and treated me courteously and professionally. On the one occasion I can think of when something wasn’t right, I took the vehicle back and they jumped on it and fixed it right then. Whenever someone’s looking for a good place to get their car fixed, I send them here. They are the best in town.

Well, I’ve been using Murphy’s Garage for years. But regretfully will no longer use them. This is why… I needed a new radiator for my dodge pk. When I called them they told me it would cost me $ 535.00!!! Wow that seemed a heck of a lot for a radiator replacement. So I got on the internet and found a site where I could buy a brand new radiator for my truck for $ 115.00 I bought it and then hired a mobile mechanic to install it for $ 125.00 So my total was $ 240.00. My truck runs great now. Now Murphys could probably even get the radiator cheaper than I did. Anyway if they got the radiator for $ 115 like I did, that means they were going to charge me $ 420 for labor to install it. Come on guys, I know you have over head, but my mobile mechanic did the job in 90 mins. So that means you wanted over $ 200.00 an hour for labor. My previous jobs with you have been reasonable and fast and have always given you good reviews. Don’t know why you wanted so much on this radiator job???

Like Laura, I hate to write a great review for fear that my favorite repair place will get too busy. But John and his crew deserve all the praises I can give them. I have been going to Murphy’s Garage for a couple of years, and John has always been honest with me. He will not do a repair on your car unless you need it. He won’t try to sell you snake oil or unnecessary things for your vehicle. He is fast and attentive. There are a few things you can do in your life to help you live a happy and peaceful existence, and finding an honest mechanic is near the top of the list! Murphy’s Garage is the place you have been seeking all your life — unless you have been seeking some fancy place where they serve Perrier in the mahogany paneled waiting room and the shop has sparking floors, and your bill is three times more than you expected. Murphy’s Garage is a simple place with honest folks who do a good job on cars.

I hesitate to write this raving review… only for my fear that they may become too busy for me when word gets around. :) LOVE this place. Very honest, fair and friendly. Been there several times and have not been disappointed– will keep going back!
