If you look down upon. Payless you’re missing out on some great, comfortable, inexpensive shoes! Growing up, there was a local store in my town known for cheap shoes. It was«Shoe Town». I remember them not only for their shoes, but also for their cheesy commercial jingles. Note I said cheap, not inexpensive. Prior to 2012, in my mind, Payless was always synonymous with Shoe Town. No-name shoes that weren’t necessarily the best designs for your foot, even thought they may have been just the shiny new kicks you wanted. Well, maybe not even that. Fast forward many years, and Payless has revamped its image. They are the exclusive reseller of Dexter-brand shoes, plus they have their own private label brands, that, other than name, compare favorably to selections found at Rack Room, Famous Footwear, and other big-box shoe stores. The selection at Payless may be a bit more limited than at your average department store, but finding what you want is totally possible. In my case, the shoes Payless sold me for $ 40 were infinitely more durable and comfortable than a $ 55 pair I bought at the Bass outlet in San Marcos. This store is a little busier than the one I visited previously in Southpark Meadows. On the weekends, the store gets a little disorganized, but I’ve always been able to find what I needed here and the staff are pleasant and helpful.

Surprise, surprise: I am not a fashionista. I do not – nor have I ever been one to – spend a lot of money on things like shoes and purses and whatnot. So I’m sort of surprised that I’d never gone here before, especially since it’s in my ‘hood(representin’ Sunset Valley, boyee!!). But I ventured in here the other evening primarily because my kiddo needed some new shoes because her feet are growing like an inch a week. For kid’s shoes, this place is pretty great. Yes, they’ve got crap that has Dora and Spiderman on it(which I refuse to buy, by the way), but they’ve also got a good selection of NON character shoes for the wee ones. I found a cute pair of sandals AND a pair of tennis shoes in her size… and they both had silver sparklies on them which, as you know, is VERY important to 3 year olds. While I was there, I decided to look for some shoes for myself. Not a huge selection, but not bad either. I ended up gettin her two pair and then two pair of casual wear-to-work type sandals for myself and with the«Buy One, Get One» offer going on, I walked out of there having spent less than $ 60. Not bad, my friends. Not bad.
