Great Asian place, their sushi is pretty good, their Chinese food is really good. The atmosphere is amazing, everyone makes you feel at home… My daughters love their food. They don’t have wine or beer but You can bring your own and they will keep it chill for you. We love this place.

This has a new owner since it was once Peony. The sushi is horrible! I have tried it 3 times now and each time I had to spit it out… yuck! I am so sad because this use to be one of our favorite places to go for sushi! Beware if you are going there for sushi!

One of the ways I judge Chinese restaurants is by their eggplant dishes. So many places have oily and not very flavorful ones. Peoni’s was the best so far. Delicious! Every single dish we had was terrific and I was very surprised because we had not been there in over 10 years and it’s close to where we live. I spoke to one of the owners and found out that they make almost all their dishes fresh in house and don’t get the food frozen from Hong Kong as so many restaurants do. Maybe that explains why it tasted so good. Also they do not use MSG either. I was impressed. And glad that they are so close by.

Husband and I ordered delivery at the last possible minute for the lunch menu(2:20, they close 2:30). Got chicken lo-mein, beef and broccoli, and a large order of fried rice. So first, the good. We’d ordered from them before – last time was over 2 years ago, I think – and Peony had been our go-to Chinese delivery place. The woman who took our order was super gracious to let us get delivery so late, and it arrived in about 35 minutes. In a cold and rainy day, we highly appreciated the fast service. The less-than-good: it may have been the late hour, or maybe it was an off day. But the lo-mein was inedible, starchy and smelled like pet food, and the fried rice tasted more than a little stale. The beef and broccoli was okay, and thankfully came with a small container of white rice, so we ended up sharing that and tossing the rest. With delivery, tax, and tip, it came to $ 38, so it’s still a bit of an indulgence. So having to toss 2 of 3 dishes is enough for me to take my business elsewhere.

Love this place. Both the sushi and Chinese food are awesome! Phoenix, the owner makes you feel like you’re at home having an amazing meal! You have to try this place. Phoenix has a new chief and the meal was amazing. The house won ton soup was out of this world. The dumpling sauce is better than Din Ty Fung!!!

Ordered teriyaki chicken, fried rice & egg drop soup for lunch. The egg drop soup was clear instead of deep yellow. The teriyaki chicken came with 9 pieces and was not even warm. The«fried rice» was more like a ball of sticky rice and had a sour taste to it. Freaking gross!!! Ugh. Waste of money.

Best Japanese curry in town. The katsu chicken is amazing! Peony’s a hidden gem off of 2222. You can’t go wrong with the classic Chinese dishes either. The chicken fried rice is splendid and the salt and pepper squid is to die for. The staff are so welcoming and friendly and fun! I’ve only been a few times but I feel like part of the family when I go in.

Definitely agree that the quality has gone down over the last few years, both food and service. Took forever to get our food delivered, and it was cold when it got here. The woman I called to follow up on our order was very rude on the phone, finally promised to credit us for the meal, but she never did. Sad, but they’ve lost a long time customer.

We frequented Peony since they opened but watched the food quality steadily decline over the years. There is nothing favorable to report about the food at Koya — it is not good. This is clearly seen by the parking lot which is empty during lunch. In an hour between 11:45 and 12:45, six customers walked thru the door. I cant figure out how this place stays in business… it appears that something else is generating revenue other than the restaurant. I wish we had found somewhere else to eat lunch, it was definitely a waste of todays calorie allocation.

YUM! I order sushi delivery from here for lunch pretty frequently. The sushi is really good! I recommend the Kate Moss!

Their hot and sour soup is DELICIOUS and it comes with the crispies to add on top, which I love(they come with takeout soup, too). It’s deep, savory and spicy with red chili flakes and the perfect amount of mushrooms, bamboo, tofu and egg. Whether the restaurant is called Peony or the new name, Koya, the soup hasn’t changed. I’ve been a patron before and after the name change and it’s still the same, still excellent. The staff is very friendly and polite. I’ve also tried some crispy egg rolls and vegetable fried rice and both were great.

I just had probably the worst take-out I’ve ever experienced. I won’t list everything that went wrong, but I’ll sum it up with this one statement: Even the fortune cookies were chewy.

3 ½ star is more accurate but I rounded up. The service was prompt and the server checked in on me a few times after the food came out. Lunch specials are priced very reasonably. I opted for the House Special Pork with fried rice and egg drop soup. The meal also comes with an eggroll. I also ordered a hot tea. Total after tip and taxes was $ 13.00. The food here is VERY salty so be forewarned if you like things to be on the more bland side. I wished they gave bit more rice as I had ate all my rice but still had few more spoonfuls of pork left. It’s just down the street from where I work so this is definitely a good lunch option for me.

This is the perfect lunch place. Their soup is delicious and the shrimp fried rice comes with lots of nice-sized shrimp. They are really good about leaving out stuff you don’t want in a dish. The service is also good.

I went here recently with my boyfriend and was very impressed! The atmosphere, service and most importantly, the food were all fabulous. We ordered the Longhorn roll and the Shrimp Tempura roll. Both were very good, but I will have to say that the Longhorn roll was better. It had a thick cut of salmon on top with some amazing sauce. We also ordered pork potstickers and a spring roll for appetizers. They were both fairly decent, but definitely did not compare to the sushi. Peony’s has a very quiet/peaceful setting, so it’s a great place to escape the busy-ness of the city. I highly recommend visting the restaurant and trying out some sushi!

I came here for lunch and got the chicken with black bean sauce and it was good, but not amazing. The place had a definite hole-in-the-wall, lunchtime vibe to it which worked well to get in with people I knew, chat a bit and get out. I’m not sure that I’d take a date here though.

We ordered up some take out last Monday night from Peony. It was ready in about 25 minutes. That’s longer then most Asian restaurants, which leads me to believe that they are making everything from scratch(plus the food was WAY better then most takeout spots). I ordered Moo Shu Vegetable. It was fantastic. It was the first time we had ordered takeout in ages, but now I’m spoiled and want takeout every night. The interior of the restaurant looked pretty nice too. Nothing super fancy, but nice and clean. Watch out about parking though. The driveway has a really steep angle. I don’t think my Z4 would not be able to handle it without bottoming out.

Neither one of us was in the mood to make any effort for dinner, so we were in need of some take out. Asian food is always the obvious choice, but we always assume there isn’t anything near us. My genius boyfriend reminded me of Peony which he drives past on the way home pretty frequently. Loved that you could order online — sometimes things get lost over the phone. You could add each item individually to your cart(with special instructions) and it would give you an exact pick up time. Perf. Most dinner entrees were in the 9.95 range which seems standard, although it only came with rice(was hoping for bonus soup and roll or something, ah well). I ordered Coconut Chicken Curry, and the bf Vegetable Moo shu. Sushi roll menu looked interesting(as did that avocado cab puff thing on the app menu) but I’ll have to try another time. The curry portion was enough for servings which made me feel better about the $ 10. I ignored the rice and dug in. to me, it was the perfect amount of spice. My only wish is that they had tomatoes in it, and ditched the green peppers. Maybe I’ll make a special request next time. The Moo Shu looked incredible, lots of food, but my boyfriend ate it all up, in like 4 giant stuffed seam-busting pancakes. Looking forward to finishing my curry tonight. A solid first time experience, I’m reserving a star for another visit(or perhaps delivery — we just make the 4 mile radius cut off!)

I have had their food delivered many, many times, but I think last night was the last time. Their food is usually very fresh tasting, but often times I find that their version of classic Chinese dishes is different than most places and not always in a good way. They frequently make things sweeter than I like, so I have to be careful what I order. The Coconut Curry Chicken is usually what I get and is always good and fresh. I also like their Spicy String Beans. They put some sort of really salty pickled item in there that I now love. It was an acquired taste because it is so different from how other places make it. I’ve never ordered their sushi. Today we ordered Chicken Lettuce Wraps which were good as was the Garlic Chicken, but the Teriyaki Chicken was ridiculously bad and inedible. I cannot place the taste exactly, but almost as if the chicken were cooked in a mixture of liquid smoke and motor oil. Really bad!!! My bill for 3 items was $ 44 which is really high for just average Chinese food and especially high for today’s REALLYBAD Chinese food. What a waste of money! I wish there were other delivery options for this area, because I would have quit using them a long time ago. This isn’t the first time I have gotten something so bad I couldn’t eat it. My second biggest complaint is that you can’t order something that is on every Chinese menu and expect it to be the same or even similar here. Don’t waste your money here when there are so many other better options to eat in Austin. Also, they are not always open when their website says they are…

Popped in Peony here for lunch yesterday on a recommendation. Little out of the way and difficult to find unless you know where you are going. Lunchtime has a sushi special which includes 5 pieces of nigiri and a roll — Texas(spicy) or California. The salmon was quite good and I briefly contemplated ordering sashimi. However, being still hungry, I opted for a very interesting fusion roll. It’s a fantastic creation called The King Spider Roll that had tuna and salmon sashimi topped upon it. Although pricy at 16.95, that was certainly a standout here, and huge. A real meal in itself. My wife ate a piece and I ate two and then we brought the rest home! Fuzzy iphone picture is included. And of course how could I visit a sushi establishment and not try the ikura? I am happy to report it was acceptable, albeit slightly soft. I am starting my own Ikura grading scale on Unilocal,so I am giving it a 6 out of 10. My wife ordered a plate of spicy squid from the Chinese menu. It was quite good as well, but I felt like if we went again, I would stick with the sushi. I see from the reviews they are getting kind of knocked for the sushi. But really, if they didn’t have it, Peony would be just another Americanized Chinese restaurant. It’s a good move to offer both. They seem to have many regulars, so that’s a plus. The upbeat and smiling waitress greeted some customers like old friends. The owner did as well. We’ll be back!
