This is a Must if you live, play or work in the area. It’s dine in only or order and carry out because they are so busy you can’t get anyone to answer the phone. You can have a beer or glass of wine as you wait in line on busy nights. It is like a neighborhood restaurant/bar in some ways where you socialize and enjoy the crowd. Everything I have tried is exceptional and the owners and staff are extremely friendly and service-focused. Try the pastrami sandwich no matter what.

Wow. If it’s not close to you, make the trip. It’s worth every minute and cent. Best pizza around hands down. Great food, great people, reasonably priced.

First visit last night. Line was crazy long at 5:30 on a nice warm Saturday in January. I think we stood in line about 40 minutes. We ordered 2 glasses of wine while we waited, the waitress suggested a bottle so which she would pour from and the rest of the bottle would be waiting at the counter. Buyer beware: that shit’s expensive! We paid $ 44 for one bottle of wine!!! Who would expect that in a place where the pizzas are around $ 13 – 14? Anyway, not very many tables indoors, and the line wraps around them. Not the best eating environment, but no one seems to care. Picnic table are available outdoors. People in line raved about the pastrami so we ordered to share: Caesar salad, Pieous Plate(pastrami plate), and the Sprouts and Jam pizza, but we ordered the bacon marmalade instead of the sweet and sour. Service was very quick, but mostly just a drop and run. Wish we had tried the chopped salad plate instead because we weren’t impressed with the Caesar although all the recommendations we read say it’s the best. The guy in front of us brings his family every week and he said that he has picky eaters but they love the chopped salad. Everyone was right: the pastrami is the bomb! Don’t pass it up. The pizza was good, although the bacon jam was sweet and savory so wish we’d known that in advance. We avoided it hoping to skip the sweet. Not really what we wanted, but tasty nonetheless. I’d go back to try other things on the menu, but I feel like they might be a bit wrapped up in all the hype and need to focus on the customer experience a bit more.

We went there on a sunday evening and the line was super long! However, the owner took our drink orders while we waited. It was easier to wait for delicious food with wine and look at what other people were eating too :) We ordered: the Caesar Salad — ah-mazing! Pieous Plate — Heaven! Do not skip this! House on fire — Nice and Spicy The Fat Queen — very good Blueberry Cheesecake & Tiramisu to finish — Both were great but Cheesecake was my fav. Though the line was long, the food was served very quickly since they take just a couple of minutes for the pizza in that super hot oven. Kids have a Chalkboard in the corner inside: great fun for them. It is well worth the drive and the wait. Cant wait to go back.

If you’re looking for good pizza with the best thin, crispy crust then this is the place to go. I have been numerous times and it’s perfect every time. Can’t go wrong with the fat queen or margherita. However, don’t come if you are starving because there is always a line that takes about 30 – 45 minutes to get through. But it is well worth the wait, and the pizza comes out quick once you’ve finally ordered! Just do yourself a favor and go. Also, don’t forget to try the desserts. I had the tiramisu last time and there are no words to describe how delicious it was. Only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is the inevitable long line and the lack of wines available on tap. You can buy a bottle, but at $ 10 a glass I’m afraid to know how much the bottles are.

I was surprised with a pizza from Pieous for dinner, and it was AMAZING. So we made it a point to go back. The pizza here is on point. With an amazing crust, and lots of topping. My favorite thing is to sit at the bar and watch them make the pizzas right in front of you. The staff is all friendly and will make great recommendations based on what you like. I like spicy, so they always make sure my pizza is packed with heat! Even though this is hands down the best pizza I have ever had, I am stumped by the business as a whole. That is why, unfortunately, they will not get a 5-star rating. 1. The business hours are WONKY. 2. They close without notice and don’t follow any sort of schedule. 3. Their only website is Facebook, which is rarely updated. 4. They never answer the phone. I can think of numerous occasions when I drove 25 miles out of my way to grab some pie, and this place was unexpectedly closed. Which brings me to my next statement: IFPIEOUSISCLOSEDGOTOVIA313RIGHTDOWNTHEROAD.

Where do I start with this place? Although, it is in Dripping Springs it is totally worth the trip. Their pastrami is to die for and I had to go back a couple days later for pizza. That day it was packed, but they still had great service. Not only is the food amazing and the beer cold, but the people that work there are awesome. I had the privilege of meeting both the owners as well. Since the person I went with knew them already. They are very genuine, honest, kind-hearted people who really care about the quality of their restaurant. I even asked for a job because I loved the atmosphere so much. Ill have to go back out there for another round and see if I can just land a job to help this place grow even more. Thank you Pieous for existing. We need more places like yours with people like the owners and employees that run the place.

Neapolitan pizza is my jam. It’s by far my favorite type of food in the world. I just moved here from DC where I miss the most wonderful Two Amy’s like it’s no one’s business. So, when my roommate and I were looking for some food to eat after our hike this past weekend and mentioned Pieous I was DOWN like Donkey Kong(is that the right expression?) My roommate got the Rocket and I got the Margherita. A couple of things… the hardest part(in my opinion) about doing neapolitan pizzas is that the crust is so thin it’s easy for things to get soggy. And that’s kind of what I felt like my margherita was– a little soggy. The ingredients were super fresh, and I could tell it was that perfect almost burnt consistency but the amount of sauce on the pizza was just a little too much for me. My roommates Rocket was a white pizza with arugula and prosciutto on it. I had a piece and immediately wish I had gotten a white pizza. I’m thinking the lack of sauce helps the crust stand out even more. There was a lot of arugula and prosciutto on it(like a LOT) so I felt like she definitely got her moneys worth in the pizza. If I come back I’ll definitely get a white pizza… and maybe one of those awesome cookies I saw.

Damnit, why did I wait so long to come here?! About 3 weeks ago, I was having a bit of cabin fever, and suggested to my other half that perhaps we go on a drive and get some pizza.(He usually just wants Dominos when he’s in the mood for pizza, but I wanted something *good*, and I’ve heard good things about this place.) So, we hit the road and headed to south Austin to try out Pieous. Upon walking in, I knew I was going to love it. I loved seeing the oven front and center, and the smells were amazing. I also loved the industrial-chic vibe the place was giving off, as well as the way the outdoor patio looked, and the front, etc. It was a bit too cold to sit outside that day, so we sat inside. We lucked out, and came right between the lunch and dinner rushes. We decided to get 2 pizzas, so that we could have leftovers for later. I chose the Fat Queen, and he chose the Smoky Italian. We also got desserts to go — the chocolate pecan tart, and the tiramisu. The pizza came out immediately — due to the high temperatures in their oven, the pizza only need to cook for something like 90 seconds. How wonderful! It’s nice not having to wait 30 minutes for a pizza, like most places. My man has never had Neapolitan-style pizza before, so I was concerned he might not like it. No worries, though — after his first bite, I knew he was in love. You could tell they use quality ingredients on their pizzas. My Fat Queen was delicious! And his Smoky Italian was just as good. I had only intended to eat a slice of each… but it was so good that I ate 4 pieces, total!(Granted, I didn’t have any breakfast that morning, so I was pretty damn hungry by the time we showed up.) The atmosphere was lovely, everyone was happy, the place filled up shortly after we got there, and there was a lot of people-watching to do. We polished off our pizzas and took our desserts to go. My only knock against this place was the desserts: While my chocolate pecan tart was delicious, it was very small and the $ 7.25 price tag was steep. $ 5 would have been more reasonable.(My man’s tiramisu, however, was a HUGE slice, and the $ 7.25 was fairly justified.) I can’t wait to come back here and try some of the other pizzas! The Bacon Bleu and Pesto Pizzas are next on my list!

When it comes to pizza, Austin has grown up. No longer are your options Pizza Hut, Gattis, Austin’s Pizza and Dominos.(Honorable mentions to Mangia /Conans /Home Slice.) Young bucks like Via 313, Bufalina, Spartan and Unit-D are redefining the Austin pizza scene; and they’re doing it INSTYLE. Currently, wood-fired napoletana pies are all the rage(and I’m loving it). Pieous is one of those places not keeping the status quo – quo’d. Pieous is a serious pizza destinations and when you ask pizza chefs where THEY go to eat pizza, more than a few list Pieous at the top of their list. In-house-counsel and I were at St Philips engaging with the kitchen staff and when we asked them where the newest hotness was, they all unanimously agreed that the drive out to Pieous should be on any serious pizza eaters agenda. Pieous is a strange bird in that they specialize in Pizza, and oddly house made pastrami, pickles, mustards and bread. They are legit though. Don’t let their lack of focus on JUSTPIZZA sway your attention. Pizza: They sell out of pizzas on a regular basis(which is annoying) and post to Facebook when they’re almost sold out. The pizza is just as you would expect it. Fresh dough and ingredients cooked in a very hot oven. The dough has a bit of a rise yielding a thin airy crust with a good chew and slight sourness which is fantastic. As Vince Vaughn would say… «And you’re all growns up and you’re growns up and you’re growns up… Is that enough of a production for you?» Pastrami + others: If you come all the way out here, get a pastrami plate. You’d be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t. It’s like New York deli meets Texas BBQ in a strange smashup. Anyway, if you’re going to make the trip out, definitely call ahead to make sure they still have ‘za and go early. Make it a late lunch trip or as we did, a stop on the way back from Enchanted Rock. When the weather is good, the outdoor patio is super relaxing. You feel like you’re somewhere else.(Because you ARE!) Get thee to Pieous and repent for your previous pizza sins. Also… RIP Pizza Classics…

With so many great reviews I was prepared to be blown away. I personally thought it was way overhyped. We came here on the way back to Austin after visiting Hamilton Pool/Reimer’s Ranch, so we were hungry. But it was around 2:30PM and we didn’t want to eat a huge lunch. If you are hungry, you will easily be able to finish your own entire pizza. I split the shroom pizza with a friend. Pieous specializes in Neopolitan pizza. The pizza comes out on a thin naan-like crust. I really liked the crust, although it was a little burnt to make it crispy. There are a couple of vegetarian pizza options, but overall, I wish I had customized my pizza to add more toppings than mushrooms to it. Especially considering the pizza was $ 11. The menu doesn’t clearly state how much customizing your own pizza is though. NO information on whether you are charged extra per topping. Seeing that they had a unique variety of maine root drinks like mexican cola and blueberry soda, my friend and I decided to split one drink. We tried prickly pear juice. Fountain drinks are normally watered down, but this one barely had any flavor. Hopefully the other drinks are not as mild. The chalk artwork on their walls is amazing! There is a good amount of parking too.

I’m here, I have decided to use my regal presence in order that pieous can say the emperor was here. Please, no applause it’s not necessary. I’m just like everyone else except I am royally pieous. November 192015 is a gorgeous day. I’m working but my mind isn’t that focused on it. I feel bad for those of you tethered to a desk. Arriving at this place was a feat due to the traffic on 290. I pulled in and the driveway is not very accommodating. You should take your time because it’s very uneven. I walked in and the place is spacious enough. You see that beautiful oven staring you in the face. The employees are working hard to get orders done and the environment is a welcoming place. I don’t recall her name but the cashier that took my order was cool. I informed her this was my first visit after finding them on Unilocal. She replied she didn’t know how she felt about Unilocal because someone commented she talks to much. I encouraged her to dismiss her hata’s. She ran the menu down and history of the place in nothing flat. I don’t have an issue with that if that’s «talking to much». I got the fat queen because I am carnivorsorous Tex. The pie was delicious and that sourdough is right. The quality of the meats were delicious and pleasing. My only gripe is $ 13 for the pie. I would and have gladly paid $ 11 for the same or similar. I realize they have a business to run though and quality costs. I should have shared mine because working after doing that nearly sent me home… you must go hungry but it’s worth it if you get a chance to try it. I’m thinking white, margherita or marinara next time. I hope the best for these pie in the sky artisans. They have that I don’t know what the French speak about in their food. I’m going to be on the lookout for pieous second location in next 6 months further into Austin.

Really 4.5 Stars. BLUF: ie… Bottom Line Up Front. The best pizza, or wine, whatever, is the one YOU like the best, not someone else. If you will take that into consideration;… I have thought long and hard about this review. I lived in Naples for several years and worked in Italy among a zillion other countries. When a restaurant is several hundred years old, they are doing right. Neapolitans argue over the«best» pizza amongst themselves. There is no correct answer. Traditionally, a pizza is not made at home due to the space and the ovens that are required. Also, the ingredients are minimal as the crust is so important. Pizza’s are not cut into squares or triangles as eating them with your hands is the same type of sin as cutting your spaghetti. You are considered an uncouth slob. HOWEVER, the younger generation is more and more eating a part that is larger and cut to hold in their hands(when their mother or grandmother is not around of course). A traditional Neapolitan pizza(you can google the requirements) is simply placed on a large plate, uncut in front of you. It is not covered with ingredients as it is only 1 of several possible courses in the meal. You first attack the very center with a knife and fork and ideally should be soft enough to twirl around the fork. Eating outward, the dough becomes more and more solid, but should always be where you can cut a small piece and fold over a flap onto the fork. Lastly comes the crust, which is eaten in bites while carrying on conversations about soccer or what will be the next course or wine. This softness in the very center can be off-putting to those who have been told a thin crust is an Italian pizza. These can be obtained from places that sell to American tourists, but they are not recommended. Also, when arriving in Naples, if you have a friend that lives there, they may warn you NOT to have a pizza for at least 2 weeks so your body can adjust to the massive amounts but wonderful olive oil. If you don’t, you may be sick that evening. What is available in NYC and the area is Italian pizza, but it is not like what you find in Italy. One of the basic reasons is that the ingredients are not the same as the FDA does not allow the import of many of the items, right down to the flour, without additives. That is why you can get something called Italian bread in the USA, but it does not compare to the bread in Naples. Hey, but it is still good! Now the famous NYC slice, which I like, is starting to make inroads into Italy. However, it is eaten, not folded over with the ingredients on the inside, but the outside. Impossible? No. As pizza is eaten normally with a knife and fork, it is more like an inside-out calzone. If you just want the amount of a slice, particularly one you are going to eat in you hand(with paper around it), the pizza is quite small. Italians routinely dress much more formally and they do not want to get it one their suits or dresses. Now, in my opinion, and the opinion of the Lady of the house, Pieous did an excellent job. The dough was soft-soft in the center and spot on. We had two types of pizza as we can’t agree on which is better, Margarita or one with four ingredients. We also got the Tiramisu. It was very good, I would get it again, but it needed a touch more of booze and/or coffee to hit a home run. The staff was wonderful and the place was spotless. Will we be back? Yes, absolutely! We loved it! Was it the best I we have ever had? No. But in the USA, I would rank it in the top 5 we have eaten. I place this in a totally different category than the NYC slice, which I love to eat and people watch. If you have not been to NYC, and dove into the food, that is a sad thing. If you take it home, I recommend having the oven hot with a pizza stone already in there waiting, and warm it up for a couple of minutes. Any longer and you may end up with a very tough outer crust and the underneath trending toward an American thin crust. I hope this helps. This is just our opinion. What is correct is what you like. Don’t worry about trying to agree with or please others. Enjoy!

As good as it gets is right, Unilocal.Pieous deserves 5+++ stars. My experience was exceptional from start to finish. This was a great location for our casual Sunday date night. We arrived around 5:30 and there was about 3 people ahead of us to order. We stood in line for 5 minutes or so, and in that short amount of time 6 more people got in line behind us! Pieous, even all the way in the outskirts of Austin you’re still so popular. $ 45 for The Fat Queen, the mozzarella appetizer, 2 glasses of wine and the tres leches dessert. We sat outside on the pet friendly deck and waited less than a minute before our appetizer arrived. Talk about fast service! Speaking of service, Pieous employees are top of the line. Every single one of them had a smile on their face and offered up just the right amount of friendly small talk coupled with a «Can I help you with anything?» attitude. The food equally wowed me. Dare I say my favorite pizza joint in town? Dare I? The Fat Queen was topped with the most flavorful pepperoni I have ever had in my life. I know pizza, I love pizza and this was amazing pizza. If you go for dessert I can vouche for the tres leches. Dry tres leches is the worst, but you don’t have to worry about that at Pieous. Dare I say the best tres leches I’ve ever had? Dare I?

So I have been here many times, posted pictures, enjoyed every visit, and it’s just hands down the best pizza in Austin. They love their food so much. I can’t believe I’ve never posted a review until now. Pieous is, as they state on their wall, solely devoted to making good food. This is a job that they pull off flawlessly. The pizzas are Neapolitan style, hand made in front of you, and fired in a brick oven. The crust is a little charred, thin, and just the right kind of chewy. The fat queen, a mostly meat pizza, is my favorite. If you don’t try the meat plate(fat and juicy) you’re letting yourself down. It’s to die for. The cookies and pies are also amazing. They make some of the most delightfully heavy cream pies around. What I love most is that this is a family business that pays their workers well. Everyone makes well well well above minimum wage no matter if they’re making pizzas or washing dishes. The family that runs the joint couldn’t be more humble and nice. I’ve talked to the owner as he’s making pizzas and he was just a really solid dude. Pieous even passes the test of my younger brother. He’s the pickiest eater around. When we walked in and he saw the brick oven, he leaned over so my girlfriend wouldn’t hear to tell me «I don’t like pizzas cooked in those ovens.» I assured him he’s never had a true pizza from one of those ovens until he’s had one here. So I got him his own pepperoni and he didn’t leave one ounce of it on the table. It was guzzled down in a matter of minutes. I know Pieous is a bit far when it comes to a normal Austinite’s normal grazing area, but you can’t let all those border folk and dripping springs residents have all the good pizza! Drive out there and support this amazing business. Part of me wishes they would open a second location, but that might make Pieous lose a little bit of what makes it unique.

Stopped here after a day of hiking at Enchanted Rock and we were HANGRY. We waited for about 25 minutes to place our order(on a saturday night at 7:30 so it was peak time), but almost 2 minutes after we sat down on the patio, our pizzas were ready! Eureka! We both built our own pizzas with pepperooni, mushrooms and garlic on mine. AMAZEBALLS. Also shared the blueberry cheesecake which was phenomenal and the chocolate chip cookie. Plus: Maine root soda! I mixed blueberry with vanilla. Perfection. My favorite place in Austin :-)

Pieous pastrami is the absolute real deal. Until today, I have never known what pastrami could be. I’ve eaten pastrami at various delis around the country, including at Katz’s in NYC(not to be confused with the one in Austin that closed for good half a decade ago). None of those places served up pastrami even close to as good as what Pieous offers up. I would rate the pastrami here on equal footing with some of the best BBQ brisket in TX, with it’s delicious peppery bark surrounding some divinely tender beef. Either the pastrami plate or the sandwich is a must if you come here even if that’s not generally your thing. The Pieous pizzas are also excellent and worth some praise. We ordered a Margherita which features mozzarella made fresh in-house. The dough was really good too, thin and chewy-soft. Can’t go wrong ordering one of their pizzas either. We didn’t have room for dessert this time though the pies, brownies, and face sized cookies were pretty tempting. Just another reason to come back.

Pieous has over 400 reviews and is highly rated — they earned that reputation for a reason. With that being said, I don’t need to reinvent the wheel here. The food is amazing — I’m a big fan of the pastrami and they do not skimp. I know, you’re looking at the menu and you’re thinking, «$ 11.25 for a sandwich? Is this girl crazy?» No. Definitely not. It’s worth it. Just eat it and you’ll see. I wouldn’t lie to you, and neither would most every other review. Remember — over 400 reviews and they still have over 4 stars. People love this place because it’s great. If people really felt the prices were too high, this place would have been out of business long ago. Order the pastrami, grab a beer, sit on the patio, and reflect on life and how you sometimes stumble upon something great and you hope it sticks around for years to come. Or order a pizza and a glass of wine, if that floats your boat. They make everything fresh and it’s all damn good. I had their pizza once and even I liked it. Let me tell you something — I hate pizza. I hate pizza and the Fat Queen was frikkin’ delicious. Now that is impressive. Pieous is doing something fantastic and everyone should trek down at least once. If you love good food, you owe it to yourself. Want to bring your four-legged friend? Totally allowed! The patio is dog friendly and they’ll bring out a bowl of water for you with a smile. Heck, they’ll do everything with a smile, and that’s something that just can’t be beat.

CANNOTRAVEABOUTTHISPLACEENOUGH. Not only is the place adorable(with amazing seating indoor and out), the food is amazing and has been a big hit with everyone I’ve ever taken there! There are some great vegetarian pizza options: marinara, margherita, white pie, shroom, simplicity, eggplant, pesto, and brussels and jam(a personal favorite — brussels sprouts, mozzarella, and house made sweet and spicy marmalade). You can also make your own! And don’t miss the desserts! CONS: it is VERY popular, can get crowded at any time. I have on occasion waited 20 minutes to order(you order at the counter)!
