Wow. First time taking my friend here and my first time back in over two years to a pita pit. I have never tried to use a groupon where the person behind the counter was ever as difficult as this man this day. From the second we mentioned it, he was shutting us down. The machine doesn’t work, you can’t use them this way or that way. Don’t expect to buy the groupon, print them out, and be able to use it here. Save your money and across the street to Qdoba. They are friendly and will feed you over there with a smile!

Customer service is so bad I didn’t get to eat. We drove for 20 minutes fighting traffic to use our groupon for this place, only to have the groupon rejected after I ordered. They«won’t take a groupon if the manager isn’t there». And according to them, this is my fault because I «didn’t ask first». And no apology offered. Driving away hungry even though I prepaid for the food. Are you SH! TT!NGME?

I ordered a salad to go and everything was ok until I found a bug in my food. I thought it was pepper but then I looked closer and noticed the little legs. If you don’t mind bugs in your food, then you might wanna give pita pit a shot(seriously, I thought their falafel was good). I know it’s just a bug, but it’s so gross to find these kind of things when you’re enjoying your meal. I’m vegan and I can’t even kill a fly to save my life, let alone eat one. I also paid for avocado and I’m just realizing they didn’t put it in my salad. I have to compliment the customer service because they were super friendly(one of the dudes kept calling me BRAH though and I’m still not sure how I should feel about that). Unfortunately, I paid for my food, not for people to be nice to me.

Good for a quick lunch or dinner. They have a lot of healthy options, and staff is always pretty friendly. Usually frequented by UT students and staff trying to squeeze in a healthy or quick meal; otherwise you can find better quality meats and better tasting sauces elsewhere. Always go here with some sort of coupon(students get 10% off), and don’t expect gourmet Mediterranean fare. It is on the drag, after all.

How to get FREE food here: If you are a regular and would like to get $ 2 off on every meal here, download the Tastebud app and use my promo code for an additional $ 5 off: pnewm You must use it on your first purchase or you will not receive the $ 5 off! Review: Food is alright and fairly standard. Good healthy alternative for the broke college kid. What can I say? It’s a chain that sells pitas.

The food here created is pretty fresh and delicious. However, the organization here is very questionable. The people who work here were very disorganized and took a long time to serve just a few people. There is a bad process of payment and then making of the pita which makes it really confusing and there were 3 different people all trying to work on the same pita. Also, they don’t have any prerecord of what you ordered so you could actually end up getting more or less for your money. The process here is just very difficult and confusing and I hope that that can be fixed.

Personally, I can’t really relate to the reviews below complaining about items not being fresh and poor service. Yeah, their service is slow during normal eating hours(go figure) but it’s basically the same time as the subway around the corner and it’s healthier and tastes better. Plus, I’ve always had pretty friendly people manning the place. Today, a guy with head to toe tattoos talked to me while simultaneously making my pita. He was a friendly, funny guy — a little quirky, but hey, who isn’t? Pita was out in no time, and it was tasty. For a quick healthy eat, this is the best place on the drag for bang for your buck vs taste.

The service is awful but I love the food. Don’t come here if you’re in a hurry. It’ll take 20 – 30 minutes at least to get served. The staff is not professional.

Ordered food for pick up, walked in a few minutes after the pickup time to see three employees standing around the cash register talking. No one had started making my food yet, there were no problems with it going through online, I guess no one noticed my order was placed. Also they were out of cucumbers which are my favorite topping. No wonder this place is always empty. I enjoy Pita Pit but the service here was terrible.

CLARIFICATION: This review reflects experiences prior to an early-October management change. I’ve not been since, but have been invited back in a courteous note from the new GM, so I’ll likely stop in to give Pita Pit another try. … I realize that one must temper expectations while eating on the Drag: your food is made by poorly paid college kids, often in their first jobs, and they don’t know a thing about customer service, work habits, or professionalism. This much I get. But that’s also not my fault, and there are plenty of family-owned and family-run places on the Drag(like Kismet Café or Teji’s) that get it right, so it can obviously be done. Long prologue aside, Pita Pit still kind of sucks. The food is actually okay, mind you, and the Subway/Chipotle style build-your-own allows you to make options that are reasonably diverse and healthy, with decent pescatarian and vegetarian options available. The multiple styles of pita, above-average sauces, alfalfa sprouts, babaganoush, and hummus all tempt you into thinking this might be better than conventional fast food. Nothing is great, mind you, nor especially fresh, but you didn’t pay for that, so solid A-OK to I’m-a-fan is what you’re hoping for. What really wrecks this location, though, is the service. The behind-the-counter setup has two separate assembly lines, so theoretically two different pitas can be made by two different cooks at the same time. In reality, it just causes confusion and bad communication between employees, and half the time only one line is open. This often means that the cooks(who are also the cashiers) are often making something with their backs to the register, leaving customers standing bored and ignored in line. Employees appear stressed and on-edge even during slow times, and checkout is often brusque and borderline rude. Despite the fact that Pita Pit has a briefer and milder lunch rush(you can figure out why) than other places on the block, employees also seem to have no idea how to use down time, and so you’ll frequently eat surrounded by tables in need of busing and overflowing trash while the staff seem to all be on break at the same time. One wonders, occasionally, if they even hire shift supervisors here. This is a shame, because with any kind of attentive management, I’d give at least a solid three stars and recommend the place. It’s no surprise, though, that they’re outsold by all the nearby competition despite one of the best lunch locations in the central city. So, all other things being equal, I’m unlikely to return to this location.

Staff just seemed like they didn’t want to be there, food was okay. Absolutely nothing special about this place. Soup is advertised on the menu, but they said they wouldn’t start serving any until next month. I wouldn’t go back/nor recommend.

I wish there were more Pita Pits in the world. I love coming here when I’m in town and the freshness of the food. When I came to this location, I was a bit bummed out on the food and service. I felt like the service was rather slow and it took much longer than I had hoped for my wrap. As far as the wrap, the falafel and the gyro are my favorites here. I love adding tons of veggies to it, but wish they wouldn’t skimp so much on them. The secret sauce and the hot sauce are legit — be sure to try them out!

My friend kept raving about this place so I decided to visit it when I was next in the area. I’ll admit that my friend’s comments really set my standards high, but this overall experience was lacking in every way. I got a gyro and the meat was completely bland with none of the traditional spices you normally find while eating a gyro. The food was lacking any flavor, and was completely forgettable. The staff was also very detached and bored and didn’t even try to act like they enjoyed their jobs. I came in when it wasn’t busy so I think the staff is always disconnected from their employees. Ultimately I wouldn’t go there again.

This location must have terrible management because the service stinks! The workers are unacommodating and unpleasant. When you order a pre designed pita, you have to walk over to the subway type line and tell them what you want on it. My friends and I weren’t told the protocol so we sat straight down thinking they would bing us our meals when they were done. After we ordered, people came in behind us and got their food all while we were sitting there. And when I asked what the heck was up the dude acted very unapologetic like it was my fault I didn’t know how the poor system worked. Lame-o Never again.

I am usually a BIG fan of Pita Pit. Awesome food, convenient location, and nice selection for vegetarians. However, this location has disappointed me on numerous occasions. The pitas here are significantly smaller in portions than other locations I’ve been to. If I am getting a Hummus pita w/veggies, I expect a plethora of hummus in that bad boy, not a little smear. I mean, c’mon. How am I supposed to sustain myself on that? Today, I ordered delivery to the UT campus, which is less than a mile from the store. It took them nearly 40 minutes to get there after I placed an order. Again, tiny pita, and they forgot to include the chips I ordered and did not give me my receipt! I called them back and they told me that they would refund the chips(99 cents, woohoo) and that their delivery printer was not working properly, which is why I did not get a receipt. So, that was $ 1 for delivery, and I tipped an extra dollar to the delivery girl. Alas, I am 10 dollars poorer and still hungry.

I used to be OBSESSED with this place. I’m assuming new management has caused my pitas to taste horribly off due to low quality ingredients. I’ve thrown away two entire pitas. THAT’S RIDICULOUS. Never again.

Had to post a second review as I am a LONG-TIME regular who’s love for pita pit has been left in shambles by NEWMANAGEMENT. Yes, an employee has informed me that pita pit is under new management. That is why instead of fresh avocado on your pita, your only option is a disgusting and processed avocado spread chemical thing. The protein portions are significantly smaller than in years past(been coming here since 2007) and the awesome pesto sauce that used to make pita pita great has now been removed. They’ve also removed the buffalo-sauce I used to use to order a buffalo vince young pita. Sorry Pita Pit; I’m afraid it’s time we broke up.

Nothing special, but it’ll do whenever I’m on that health swag and looking for a quick bite to eat around West Campus. It’s essentially a Subway with pitas, where you go down the line, pick your choice of fillings, and pay for your meal. The wheat pita I ordered was rather dry, but I have no qualms about the freshness or quality of the other ingredients. Coming from Honolulu and being new to Austin, I thought it was neat pineapple pieces were an option to add to your pita, though they were just simple, canned pieces. I also liked having the option to grill my meat and vegetables, which turned out pretty delicious for my Southwestern Chicken Pita. The servers here definitely reflected Austin’s eclectic demographic, but they were all rather nice and friendly. They greeted you whenever you walked in or out the door, which was pretty nice. I suppose the portions were okay for the price, but next time, I would rather spend that same amount of money to buy something better elsewhere. They were a bit skimpy on the meat. Granted, I tried out Pita Pit with the intention of being healthy, but not quite the point where I would enjoy eating pure veggies in occasional bites of my pita because there was so little meat. For the most part, I felt like it was simply a hipster version of Subway — because, you know, sandwiches are so mainstream. It’ll do if you’re just looking for something to eat, but if you want an eating experience that’ll leave you feeling actually happy about what you ate, look elsewhere.

Kinda like Greek fast food. It’s perfectly adequate, but it’s also nothing special. Just a nice place to grab something quick to go, or to eat at the booth and watch the scenes outside.
