Cheap, convenient, delicious aka awesome — reminder of how awesomely cheap college food can be Flew in late and couldn’t find too many options in Austin — this place is basically Austin’s 53rd /6th chicken & rice dude. You won’t spend more than $ 10 for nice sized portions. Nice seating area, easy parking at night, can’t lose! Really appreciated the Murican sized bottles of ketchup on the tables.

Why oh why did I not discover you sooner? We could have years together in which I got to enjoy your deliciousness while studying in undergrad. Kismet is a wonderfully cheap and delicious hole in the wall. It’s easy to notice and pass up but you will definitely regret that! The place is a simple, small restaurant design with a couple of people working each shift. Food comes out fairly quick and smells oh-so-yummy. Please, please do yourself a favor and try the stuffed grape leaves. They just melt in your mouth. Friendly service. Cheap, great food(a rare combination). What more could you want?

I visited with place with friends who are from or had lived in the Middle East and we all enjoyed it! We tried chicken shawarma sandwiches, hummus, fries(with garlic mayo), and falafel. Everything was really delicious– the hummus especially so. They were offering complimentary sage tea(or cinnamon tea) which was good because it was really cold in there. Wonderful spot. The falafel was overpriced and if I had to skip one thing that would be it, even though it was good.

I come pretty often because they are open late and the food is amazing. Always get the spicy jalapeño plate with chicken and lamb, SOGOOD!

Close to UT campus which is perfect for students who live on campus or WC plus it’s open late so you can always grab food after late night studying. I definitely recommend their p17(creamy jalapeño plate) with you choice of chicken or gyro(or both). Their portions are pretty big and food typically comes out pretty fast.

I used to really like Halal Bro’s(another mediterranean food place down Guadulupe), but after eating there so much, I felt like their food was too oily, overly saturated with sauces, and very fast food-like. Kismet Café is almost the opposite. Their food feels like it’s homemade and the quality is always great. My favorite dish to get is the creamy jalopeno meat platter(with gyro) and it comes with rice and a side salad. The side salad is delicious with their light salad dressing and the rice is always perfect. Sometimes they put a little too much cream sauce on top which makes the dish overwhelming, so I usually ask for the cream on the side. Price for my dish is around 8 dollars and easily fills me up(I usually have leftovers). Pretty solid place to eat! Also, it’s open really late at night(probably around 3AM!).

Cheap, but authentic food. Solid gyros and plates. Place gets busy late nights.

Really solid food for a bargain. I’ve been frequenting Kismet throughout my 4 years at UT Austin and I’ve really come to appreciate their food and value. They have a bunch of vegetarian friendly dishes, ranging from falafel, to eggplant, to cauliflower, and more(I would advise against the vegan gyro, though — quite dry). But what I really love is the value of their combo — $ 6.50 gets you any wrap(I almost exclusively get the cauliflower wrap), seasoned fries(or rice I believe), and a drink. It’s a great deal of good Mediterranean food for not a great deal of money. Maybe not the best Mediterranean food, but pretty good. Couple of gripes, but not huge ones: sometimes they take quite a while to get your food out, and sometimes service can be a little unfriendly. But overall, solid food for cheap!

I’ve only had the gyro here. Pretty tasty, nothing special. Would eat again, but too in love with Kebablicious to come back often. Cheap though :) Also it is nice that they are open late!

Just tried this place out for lunch and I loved it! I ordered the gyro wrap lunch special to go. It comes with the wrap, a side of fries or chips, and a drink all for $ 7.00! It was pretty crowded inside and there’s only a few tables, but they sure do know how to churn out some food! The cashier was lightning fast and I didn’t have to wait too long for my food. The gyro meat was as good as it gets. Chopped up nicely, good flavor, and not dry at all! I wish the pita was warmed up more, but eh i’m not too worried about that part. The fries were also pretty great. They put some sort of seasoning on it, which I can’t really describe… it’s sort of like a Mediterranean lemon pepper? Anyways, I really enjoyed my meal if you can’t tell. I’ll definitely be back!

Kismet’s location is close to UT campus, and they’re open late too, so I always find myself there when nothing else is open. The fries are amazing; I usually choose Kismet because I’m craving them. And, their wraps are pretty good; I usually order the Chicken Cesar wrap, but I also really like the falafel wrap as well. I haven’t tried much of their menu, but I hear their options over rice are really good too. The fries alone are enough to bring me back each time. The seasoning is the perfect balance for me — not too salty or spicy but still very flavorful. Not only that but their food is relatively cheap, and they offer decent portion sizes. The only downside is that they tend to take a long time to make the food; I always find myself waiting a bit before my order is ready, and the environment inside isn’t the most comfortable; it’s a bit small and dingy in my opinion so most of the time I just order to go.

Very solid Mediterranean food for the price. I’m a fan of their wraps, especially the gyro and chicken shawarma. The only true con I’ve noticed is the often aloof staff, and the sometimes lengthy wait times for particular menu items. I guess this is to be expected with so few staff on site, but it’s still somewhat inconvenient. Beyond that, the interior of the restaurant is a bit grimy, but that’s nothing out of the ordinary on the drag. Overall, Kismet is a solid option if you’re looking for cheap, tasty Mediterranean food at a late hour.

I’ll always love Kismet, we go way back. Traditional, simple stuff really. Maybe I’m biased because I’ve come here since I was 18(what was that, two weeks ago?) and appreciate the fact that their affordability maintains my budget while still feeding me copious amounts of delicious, greasy Mediterranean food. Also, their baklava. there’s always room for it.

This place is exactly what you would expect for a Mediterranean restaurant on the Drag. It’s a little grimy with as much seating as fire code will allow in a smallish space, but the food is tasty and affordable. They have lots of meaty and vegetarian options, and everything on the menu sounds amazing. The portions are very generous and can easily be shared. Try the hummus. Am I going to make a special trip there? Probably not. But next time I am in the area and looking for something delicious, Kismet Café will be a contender.

Awesome mediterranean food !! I always go in for the Gyro platter, and this time it was no different. A good chunk of gyro meat, on the top of a bed of spiced rice. Sides included hummus and tabouli, with a warm pita. Not to forget the garlic sauce and the red hot sauce without which the meal feels bland, but upon adding the sauces this a a gyro dish to die for. Service is a lil slow so i’d call in and order 10 minutes before showing up to pick the delivery, or dine in.

Dear Kismet Café, Why do I stop by during every visit to Austin? Because you’re great. — Flavorful and delicious — Convenient with a location right off 24th St — Affordable, always under $ 10/person and portions large enough to split into two meals It’s simple — 1) Browse through the menu on their website 2) Call in your order 3) After 10 mins, pickup and pay for your order 4) Enjoy! That’s it. This time I wanted to try that Next Level stuff, so I ordered P17 aka Creamy Jalapeño Lamb and Chicken Rice Platter. This is how they do it — begin with a bed of fluffy rice. Top it with well-seasoned, fresh chicken and lamb. Douse – and I mean totally slather – magical Creamy Jalapeño sauce(spicy, savory, and rich). Oh, and there’s also a salad with lettuce, tomato, and cucumber on the side. Take a bite and you’re well on your way to Flavor Town.

For non vegetarians, the lamb shank is unbelievably good. It’s on Fridays and runs out soon so make sure you go early. For vegetarians, the veg special pita wrap is amazing. There must be a combination of secret sauces which makes the wrap the best of the veggie wraps. Would also recommend the cooked eggplant side. Could do with more veggie options though but still cool!

Super delicious, great prices, and really friendly staff. And you can get falafel and dolma(stuffed grape leaves) by piece. Which is awesome for a quick snack. For a while, they were serving breakfast tacos(also sure delicious and only $ 1.50) but past two times I went they were closed. Bummer :(
