Post South Lamar

This place is a mixed bag. On the bright side, good location, nice layouts and amenities. Not to add to the construction topic, but I was under the impression they would relocate any tenant who felt like the noise was too bothersome, pretty nice IMO. On the negative side, if you’re moving in here you’re going to have to be ok with surrounding yourself with a lot self-​involved people still trying to figure their lives out and forty somethings who wish to relive their college years, post a recent divorce (most likely). You will be dodging countless dog poop and pee sprinklings about the hallways on a daily basis; no one seems to be concerned with picking up after their little doggies. Honestly, stay clear of the doggy areas if you don’t own one… or two… or three (which is the case of some tenants), the small on-​leash patches (which no one abides by) aren’t large enough for all the usage and end up smelling like a boarding kennel. The elevators are frequently smattered with vomit and it takes a few days to get cleaned up. The last bothersome thing for me was the parking, visitor parking is a virtually non-​existent and people drive way too fast in the narrow garage.

I lived there for 6 months and I loved it. The alarm thing was not an issue anymore. My apt was on the top floor with a view to the pool and it was perfect. I couldn’t hear the construction at all.
Management is friendly and flexible. They are always planning cool events like brunch and happy hours, and there are free fitness classes every week! Every week I would run to Zilker park and take my dog, the location is great!

Management makes this place almost unbearable. They cannot be trusted, and go back on their commitments to you.
When we initially moved into the building they told us the construction next door would be from 9AM — 5PM during the week. That was a lie. There ended up being concrete pours starting at 1AM every couple weeks. It was so loud, even ear plugs didn’t help. We went back and were told by management that they would move us to a different unit, without penalty, but that there were no units currently available that did not face construction. We checked in with them an additional 3 times to see about units, and none were available so we continued to wait a few months. Finally, when we were closer to our lease ending, a unit became available that we wanted, and Rachel Dennison (leasing manager) told us that we would actually have to pay rent on our existing lease until it ended, thus paying for TWO leases for about a month. We had told her we had it in writing from a previous manager that we could move without penalty. She basically found some loophole into not allowing us to do it.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, when we did move out they charged us $ 350+ for fixing up the apartment when we left the place in good condition. One of the charges was for mounting a TV to the wall, something we were told we could do without being charged upon move out.
This is only one example of how terrible it is to deal with Rachel Dennison and the management team in the leasing office. Hopefully this review helps steer anyone considering Post to another residence in the area — I would highly recommend Hanover, only a couple blocks away.

I have lived at Post South Lamar for 3 years and really enjoy the community. The management is friendly and know you by name. They do fun resident events. The rent is low compared to neighboring communities. There is construction, but its temporary and once it is done, the complex being built is part of the Post, so all the amenities will be available. I love the fitness room and the free fitness classes. Very pet friendly, love the dog run.

I’ve lived here almost two years now and I love it. I’m a dog owner and I’ve made so many friends with dogs here. Maintenance responds fast to issues, haven’t had any noise complaints with neighbors, great location for the price! For me, the only downside is the construction which is noisy, dusty and there are construction workers looking into my windows haha (we’re on the third floor). Thankfully this is only temporary.

I have lived here for six months now, and love it. It’s clean, good facilities and amenities, and the management has always been helpful. They got me in a unit when I needed a place within only 36 hours. Every time I come to them with a concern or issue, it gets resolved immediately. The residents are awesome. I haven’t encountered a single bad one yet. The pool is always super fun and chill — it doesn’t get out of hand since they have a security guard there on the weekends.
There are some downsides for sure. The construction next door is a loud annoyance, but that’s to be expected no matter where you live in or near downtown Austin right now. Some residents aren’t great about picking up after their animals, but again… to be expected because people are lazy — so I can’t fault the apartment complex for that. There are some sound issues with people who live above you… it’s easy to hear them stomping around, but I have never heard anyone through the side walls. And, yes, people drive their cars like it’s Formula 1 in the parking garage, but that’s not the apartment’s fault.
The fire alarm issue seems to have been resolved. It happened to me once when I first moved in, but never again. Four months without an attack on my ears.
Overall, I am happy with my decision to live here and would recommend it to others. I have an 18 month lease — should I not buy a house at the end of that or move to the new Post property next door when it’s finished, I would definitely renew my lease here.

I’ve been living at The Post now for about 3 months and from day one I have only had a great experience living here! I’ll be honest I almost turned away from this place after reading some of the reviews, but since I’ve been here I have never heard the fire alarms go off once, the construction is nothing to complain about by any means and I’ve had no problems at all with hearing my neighbors and I work from home. I think the people in these other reviews may have just experienced some growing pains as this is a very new complex.
I had a great experience with my leasing agent Gina as well. We were looking for an apartment that had a balcony with a good view and bedrooms that allow us to have our own privacy. She showed us multiple apartments until we found the one that we had been searching for and she made a tremendous effort to make sure that we could lock down that apartment. She did a great job helping us find the price we were looking for and space we were looking for. We moved into this place with two months left on our other lease just because it was such a great price and we were very excited to live here!
Anyone who complains about the price is out of their mind because for the location, modern amentites and overall convenience of this place the price is very reasonable compared to the surrounding apartment complexes that will try to give you a month free rent to help lessen the blow of their high prices. You are across the street form a 7/​11, Chilantro, Starbucks, Drug Store and there is a VERTS in the shopping center below the complex. Chipotle is also less than 5 minutes away, which is always solid for a location. The pool is always poppin during the summer and people are always out there on the weekends, there are multiple large dog areas/​parks for your dog to run around and parking is very convenient for whatever floor you are on. The apartments have nice hard wood floors, marble counter-​tops, nice cabinets, modern appliances and the carpet in the rooms is comfy as hell!!!
Everyone in the leasing office is great and will always help you out with any questions or concerns you may have and definitively say this apartment complex is pretty sleek for the price and location!!!

I am a current resident of Post South Lamar and I am really enjoying living here. I have lived in Apartments for several years and this one by far is my favorite. The staff is extremely friendly and genuinely wants you to have a great leasing experience. I worked with Gina Garcia and she was polite, professional and friendly throughout the move in process. I moved to Austin and shopped around for apartments for a few weeks and the Post provides a great value for the Square footage. I was surprised to see a few of the other reviews because my experience has been Awesome. I encourage you to check out The Post South Lamar you won’t be disappointed. The entire staff has been very welcoming and committed to excellence. P. S if a little construction bothers you Austin may not be the best city for you. The city is constantly growing so you have to learned to roll with it.

Admittedly, I am new to the building (I moved in in June 2015) but I cannot sing higher praise for Post South Lamar. I moved here from New York City and have rented for the better part of the last 10 years. Here’s what I have to say:
Building:
Amazingly well kept. It is always being cleaned. The space is immaculate as far as apartment buildings of this size go. It is well designed and but strangely laid out. Some may complain they can hear their neighbors– these people have clearly never rented an apartment before.
Upkeep:
Maintenance is quick to respond and does thorough work, not shotty-​this-​will-​do-​for-​now craftsmanship. There is one resident that lets his dog pee by the elevator every morning — if I ever find this guy I’ll likely kick him in the shin, but otherwise the residents look after their pets and take both pride and ownership in the building.
Staff: The leasing office staff is great, friendly, and beyond helpful. They don’t even make fun of my for being seemingly incapable of replacing the battery in my key fob correctly.
Amenities: The pool is great. Expect a decent crowd of fun neighbors on the weekends after 3pm but before that and on weekdays it is fairly quiet. If you don’t like pool noise or the smell of chlorine– don’t rent by the pool. I think the security guard recently added is unnecessary and weird but whiners in this complex seem to have very loud voices. Ultimately that’s a good thing because it means management in listening. Did i mention our sweet gym? No? well, we have a sweet gym. The computers in the tech room are prehistoric and are basically inoperable but the wifi is solid.
Construction: You work at home? You hate noise? My advice is not «Don’t move here», its not even, «Don’t live on the north side.» My advice to you is, «Don’t move to Austin.» Quit being ridiculous.
Traffic: You live a mile from downtown, walk or take the bus. You could live 5 miles away and sit in traffic longer…
Price: I apt shopped for 6 months. You will not find a better apt in a better area for a better price. You won’t so «check yo-​self before you wreck yo-​self».
Security: When I pulled my insurance quote the agent warned me of break-​ins in the building. I don’t know how that would even be possible– I can barely get into the building and I live there! this place is sealed up like a drum. DO NOT LOSE YOUR KEYS.
Coolness: If you aren’t cool. Don’t move here. My neighbors are awesome and I don’t want anyone to move in next door that might complain about having to walk more than a hundred feet to take out their trash.

Absolutely the worst apartment complex I have ever experienced. I could go on about the problems but I will only highlight the largest issues. The parking garage is a complete disaster, they have designated a whopping 7 guest parking spaces for the ENTIRE complex… it is preposterous. A lot of times your guest will have to park unsecured on the street because they enforce a very strict TOW policy. As other people have mentioned below the fire alarm goes off at a minimum of once a month for a lengthy period of time in the very early AM. Lastly, there is no dog park & only a selective grassed area to take your dog (s) out, this also means. a lot of dog sh*t!!! covered & smeared over the stairs & walk areas.

As a current resident I urge you to refrain from living here. When moving into the Post they advertised a dog park and failed to mention they were constructing an entire new building next to us. The dog park also no longer exists. I have lived in construction dust for almost 6 months. I have to mop the floors every day because when you walk the halls there is always construction dust on your feet.
It is nearly impossible to have guests over because the complex is such a maze and now with the new construction will be even worse. I recently gave a notice of leaving after my lease is up a few days after «60 Days» and the Post managed to get another dollar out of me by making me pay for 6 additional days in rent. All they care is about is scamming you with paying extra money because I’m sure no one wants to move in with all the new construction and they are having difficulty filling up the place.
Management are not kind people especially the manager of the property. She is not friendly and is not willing to work with you on just about anything. I will never move into another Post property again and hope this encourages you to move elsewhere!

I really enjoyed my time here but that was because of the awesome residents and in spite of the management.
List of problems:
1. Consistent problems with the fire alarms going off. These are the loudest alarms I’ve ever heard in my life. Being woken up a 1am with ear piercing fire alarms really messes you up for 2 – 3 days. This happened probably once a week when we first moved in in Aug 2013. We’ve since moved out but I’ve heard the problem has not been fixed, just happened to our friends there this week.
2. They charged us $ 400 after we left our apartment spotless. Seriously my wife and I are very clean people. We scrubbed and vacuumed the apartment before we left and still got a $ 400 bill.
3. Paper thin ceilings and walls. Our upstairs neighbor had a dog which sounded like an elephant walking around at all times of the day. I work from home and in almost drove me crazy having to hear that all day and night. We actually had an apartment in the very back with very few neighbors and it was still very loud. I can’t imagine how loud living in the main building must be.
4. Made big promises about putting in a dog park, then just decided not to do it and starting giving out super aggressive emails about dogs being off leash.

It’s 4:47am and I’ve been listening to construction right outside my window for a solid 17 minutes…

I’ve lived in the Post South Lamar for the past year and I would NOT recommend moving into this apartment building. All of our windows had black mold growing on the inside of the frame, there are very few guest parking spaces so most company had to park blocks away, and there is constant construction starting at 8am Monday-​Saturday. My roommate and I have had many more issues with this complex and are extremely disappointed with our experience.

Dont move here. Constant construction, alarms going off every week, bad internet options, bad parking garage, its all just pretty bad.
Only good thing is the location, even the price is way too high for what you get here.
Update: Fire alarm has been going off for over an hour now, on a Sunday evening. Was only told «we’re looking into it» when calling the complex’s phone number.

I remember reading Unilocal reviews before I moved into Post South Lamar and I really wasn’t sure if I could trust them. In the line of work I do, I understand that when people are frustrated, they like to whine about it in ALL CAPS instead of actually doing something about it… so I wasn’t sure… does this building just attract the most spoiled, complaining tenants in Austin or is it really that bad? My opinion has ranged to both extremes during my stay here, but I’ve settled on: «yay! i’m a fan» for the following reasons.
1.) There are specific areas in this building that serve as gathering ground for the annoying, loud, drunk, immature people that need a place to yell, «woooohooo!» at 4AM. When I first moved in, my apartment was right by the pool and clubroom. This is the worst area to live in if you enjoy quiet. However, if you love partying it up/​living in an adult frathouse — this is the area to live in. The location of my new apartment is tucked away in a quiet corner (perfect for me) and my neighbors seem just as content. Advice: be very specific about the location of your apartment depending on your lifestyle/​needs. Advice for Post: Can you please institute a douchebag screening before approving new applications? That’d be great, thanks :)
2.) I have never had issues with dog shit/​trash in hallways, but if I did, I would confront the person directly. If they didn’t correct their behaviors, I would stalk them and threaten them until they did. But this isn’t an issue for me, so I haven’t gone psycho yet (neighbors be warned). I love the cleaning employee that works on my floor, she’s sweet and does a great job.
3.) Construction affects all apartments on one side of the building (badly). This is mostly the reason I am moving to a different apartment. They are building an addition to Post Properties, which will actually be really cool for residents when its finished (joint access to amenities, larger fitness room, etc.), but while its happening it is like living next to hell. Advice: don’t pick an apartment next to the construction unless you don’t mind noise or are partially deaf or are never in your apartment from 8AM to 6PM Mon-​Sat. They don’t work Sunday praise jesus (literally, i guess).
4.) If you have an issue with the community, try to work it out with management (duh). When you are a decent person who is willing to have a conversation and offer up possible solutions, things might actually work out. This is usually how life works. Be persistant but nice. I have gotten really great responses from Post management and Post corporate. Sometimes it may not be the answer you want to hear, but at least you can continue the conversation to see what options there are that could benefit both of you. (assholes or spoiled brats, please ignore this suggestion as it does not apply).
5.) I have NEVER had an issue parking, ever. I live on the 1^st floor and have never had to drive to a different floor to park. Some other people that live here drive like jackasses, but that’s pretty much the world we live in. Just wear a neon reflective vest like I do and you should be fine.
6.) The amenities (fitness center, pool, courtyards, business center) are so nice! I’m really thankful that I get to live in such a centrally located apartment complex with these nice perks. They are always hosting brunch/​happy hour/​fitness classes/​activities, and even though I never go, bless their hearts for putting them on.
7.) This is echoing every other review, but maintenance is AMAZING. Seriously, I was able to end a dead-​end relationship because now I have our beautiful maintenance team who can help me change a light bulb and replace my smoke alarm batteries. Thank you for helping this damsel in distress. So prompt and friendly!
Final Advice: as with any apartment complex, there will be tough moments. You are living in the same building with tons of strangers who are extremely annoying most of the time. It’s about weighing the pros and cons, and for me, the pros outweigh the cons. But if something shitty happens in the future, I’ll probably talk to management and work it out. xo

I wish I would have checked Unilocal before leasing at Post South Lamar. I can completely understand why this community in one of the most desirable areas in Austin receives a 2 out of 5 star rating.
After moving into Post in February 2014 my husband and I are already leaving after only 10 months of a 12 month lease. We attempted several times to communicate with the apartment management team on the issues we were encountering mainly around issues with pet owners and pets in the common areas.
When you leave your apartment and want to utilize the stairwell nearest to your apartment but you can’t because the smell of dog waste is so strong it makes you sick, there’s a problem. After reaching out to the office several times to have stairwell 5 cleaned because someone had let their dog go to the bathroom all over the 2^nd floor landing I was told by the Community Manager that she didn’t know where stairwell 5 was! This is the community manager and she wasn’t aware that the stairwells are numbered!!! If I was the community manager, I would look at a property map before telling a resident I didn’t know a location in the community I manage (where signs are clearly posted with the numbers of each stairwell).
We also raised several concerns about the dogs being off leash in the common area, continually fighting with each other and jumping/​chasing people that were just trying to utilize the area as well. There was one evening where I found a dog that started to growl at me as I walked through the courtyard and the owner was no where to be found. The owners on the ground level were just letting their dogs out to go to the bathroom and they weren’t even outside watching them let alone picking up after them.
Other than the pet issues, which go on and on, residents leave trash EVERYWHERE in the community. Some are so lazy that they don’t even open the trash chute to put the trash down the chute, they just pile it up next to it. The elevator cage on the bottom floor near the parking garage is always littered with trash and garbage. I avoided bringing friends and family to my apartment because it was disgusting in the hallways on the weekends.
If I wasn’t spending $ 1800+ to live here I wouldn’t complain but when you are asked to pay such a high premium to live somewhere you expect a certain level of care to be given to the community. The management team refuses to enforce anything on the residents that don’t follow the rules. When I asked them in an email why they don’t fine residents for not cleaning up after their pets and not following the on leash rules I was told that they can’t do that per the city of Austin. I have several friends that live in apartments around Austin and I even went so far to forward emails those apartments send about fining residents and still nothing is done.
You’re told that there is a courtesy officer that monitors the grounds but I tried contacting him several times after hours and was only ever forwarded on to an answering service to be told that the courtesy officer was on a «special project.» The office also liked to give the line that they were putting out NEW SIGNS in the common areas to enforce rules but again nothing happened.
Just know that the management team has a lot of lines they like to feed you about what they are doing to solve issues and they are the same lines they’ve been saying since the community opened a few years ago. Nothing changes and will not change until new management is brought in. They are not building a dog park (it’s not allowed per city of Austin), they are not creating a bocce ball court or play/​activity area (like they tell you in your property tour), there is NO courtesy officer or after hours support, and NO they are not putting up new signs in the common area (they told me they were ordered in April and it’s now December).
I advise leasing at one of the other new communities on Lamar now that there are choices.

I’m very frustrated. I like this property, mostly for the location. But things need to get better.
My girlfriend and I have lived here for over a year, we had complaints in the beginning with a long list of issues… the problems seemed to go away, but lately have resurfaced, some old problems, some new.
Fire alarms that wake me up, multiple alarms going off in one day really make my blood boil. It also traumatizes our dog.
I don’t believe the maintenance team that cleans up after the complex actually cares, or cleans thoroughly. This really bothers me, as these hallways and courtyards are an extension of my home. They should be cleaned thoroughly, and consistently.
The grills are always dirty. Maintenance needs to make sure they take the time to actually do their job, and clean them.
The hallways are never cleaned properly. The last time I saw the maintenance guy cleaning the hallways, he had his headphones on and was playing with his phone (which happens 90% of the time I see him). He only cleaned the main hallways, and the small hallways leading to the stairs were all skipped. This doesn’t make me happy.
The stair wells are full of cigarette butts, spider webs, dead bugs, dust, dog crap, beer bottles, cans, you name it, one of the hallways has something new for our dog to sniff up or get into. This make me furious. We asked for them to be cleaned, and nope, that didn’t happen.
The doggy doo doo trash cans get full way too often. Then should be cleared daily. The bags should also be replenished more frequently.
The garage has gotten better, but too many cars speed around the dangerously small corners. It’s a very poorly designed parking garage.
The key fob that opens doors on the side of the building don’t always work. This forces residents to walk to a different entrance, and hope the fob lets them in. That is ridiculous.
Please get better. We don’t pay nearly $ 2000 a month for so many issues. Get it together!

Guys come on! Seriously the fire alarms have been going off all week. This morning was the straw that broke the camels back. Being woken up by blaring fire alarms piercing your eardrums is not an ideal Saturday morning to me. On top of that, our poor pup was scared to pieces. This is NOT okay, and after a year and a half this same issue, the problem should have been corrected. I really didn’t want to turn to Unilocal to express my frustration, but when the second alarm of the day just went off for nearly 5 mins at 9pm, I have totally had it.
And to the new residents who we’re asking me if this was something that occurred often while standing outside at 7am in our pajamas… yes, yes it is. Something that happens way more often than it should.

The staff has done a really good job of making improvements to the property.
Considering it was a new built, minor issues are expected in the first year of an apartment.
The police officer who lives here now has seem to be more on par with keeping noise to a min. on the weekends and they’ve even hired a pooper-​scooper to keep the grounds cleaner once a week out side (which is a huge difference!)
The parking is better, but there are two retail spaces left so I am not sure how it’s going to pan out when the other spaces become fully moved-​in, but most of the parking is taken up from the restaurant so I am assuming the additional retail spaces wont be restaurants. Fire Alarms have not gone off since December (fingers crossed). And they’re building a fenced-​in dog park, and a community garden!
As I have 90 days left on my lease and am in the time frame where I have to give notice soon, i’ve been looking at other options on S Lamar just to see my options. I will tell you that Post is far cheaper then any other places in the area. Even complexes that were 10 years old or older on lamar were the same price (if not even MORE for a one bedroom)!! Gibson across the street is $ 300.00 a month more roughly… for the same location! So this property is the best value in my opinion you’ll find on Lamar, even if you go a little off Lamar the older properties are still more money.
I am ultimately going to move most likely because of the future of Lamar. When I moved in this was the first new apartment, now there’s five more predicted to be done by the end of next year. Plus the finishing of the Alamo Draft House complex. As an Austin Native I know traffic in Austin never really fixes its self it only gets worse, so that’s why I am moving out is to not have to deal with all the traffic that will be in the area next year. But that’s really nothing that is Post’s fault.
