Pumpkin Patch Children’s Store

I have been to PP a few times and although I have never been a huge fan of it, it’s convenient to where I live. I went in the other day looking for a booster seat. I found one and when I went to purchase it I happened to ask what the return policy was on it. The sales person said that they only do returns on clothes and shoes. What??? This chair would probably have worked out for me, but because of their return policy I didn’t buy it. I also find that their prices are high compared to other second hand stores I shop at.

It is always hit or miss with this place, which comes with the consignment territory really. I have brought in items to sell many times and the clerks have always been gracious and very nice whether or not they can take anything or not. Selling to Pumpkin Patch has ALWAYS been a pleasant experience. Actually buying from them tends to not always be as such though. Their selection seems rather sparse in the boy department, though I have found some really cute shoes a time or two.
To sum up: worth a look every now and then, but I’ve never left with arms full of stuff. The clerks are super nice and make shopping/​selling pleasant.

I’ve never been to a childrens consignment store. The ladies weren’t TO friendly, they did seem a little short and like they didn’t like their job but I don’t mind additude because it’s not my problem. The clothes I brought ranged from Newborn to 18 months and I hadn’t realized they were taking Spring Clothes otherwise I would have brought everything. I wouldn’t sell here again. They took 4 nice outfits and gave me 10.00. I wasn’t planning on making money because I wanted to use it as store credit anyways but a little more of a trade would have been better. Like 8.00 cash or 16.00 store credit is what I’ve experienced at buffalo exchange. Something worth the effort of dragging in bags of clothes. Anyways I ended up spending 53.00 plus my 10.00 store credit. I got one Oshkosh outfit with tags and a nice Tommy Hilfiger sweater with tags, thick mittens, three pants, one polo long sleeve, and a button up name brand and some pjs. So yes I am happy with my purchase and I will be back to buy more. Just not trade. I’d rather give it to a friend or family member that needs it and would appreciate it more. I love this concept though! I will be back and I’m excited to check out the others in Austin.

Very rude worker. Went into store today with a laundry basket full of clean, folded and high quality clothing (children’s place, jumping bean, baby gap, etc.) I asked the girl to itemize the prices they would be offering, she said «they may not take anything», sure enough after browsing for 15 minutes they called me and said they would not take any of the clothes, just some of the toys and books I brought in. I asked why, she said the clothes where not in season and not «fall» enough; pants, jeans, jeggings, long sleeve shirts, jean jacket… what’s not fall about that? I asked her she then said they where too worn. I only brought in high quality, great condition clothing. So I then pulled out a long sleeve shirt in perfect condition as an example and asked her why she passed and she said she had enough 3T’s and didn’t want anymore. I am sure the business owner would be very upset to see the business being managed like this. Save yourself the trouble and don’t bother with this store.

Don’t sell your stuff here. They come up with bullshit reasons why they can’t give you more money for your stuff that’s in perfect condition. Plus there stuff is overpriced. Overall just a very greedy store!

Its a shame to have to write this. I have been shopping here for over 14 years at all the locations its moved to, I have followed. I have been a loyal customer and never went to any other baby consignment shop. I have sold and bought here. I have to say they are very picky about what they buy, the clothes they do sell are a tad over priced but they have great sales and quality products and good deals as well.
Here is the bad; I went the other day to sell and in search of a convertible car seat. There was a small line to sell where you put your stuff there with your name, and write down what you have. I had baby in hand and another by my side… then I hear the girl working there say something about a pet peeve that customers do… right in front of all of us customers. I didn’t catch what she said at first so I wrote my name down and she stopped me, scoffed, rolling eyes, telling me that instead of writing «clothes», I need to write «clear tub with clothes or brown bag of clothes» which I’ve never done that nor does it clarify on the sheet. So I said to her «oh that’s what you were just talking about» she said yes. So I’m sure as I walk away she’s telling the other store clerk going through the clothes that’s what she was referring to as this customer or HER pet peeve. Would this make you feel like a valued customer? Then as the same little girl working there brushes past me with a baby in my hands… doesn’t help me, completely disregards me as a customer.
I went to the front to see if they were done looking through my items, they said yeah. OK why didn’t they say that then while I was wandering? Ugh anyways…
I sold $ 3 of stuff while buying about $ 30 worth. Yes… still after all of this. So I purchased my items and left, feeling pretty mad that not only did I just spend a lot here again… but the way she was talking about customers in general was pretty freaking rude.
So don’t expect to be valued in this place.

I’ve had numerous sales here. They buy name brands not stuff from walmart or target brands. Their prices are higher than the other children’s consignment store, so I do not shop there, only sell. The employees have always been kind.

The prices are pretty high for what they’re selling, especially the clothing.
I will say that the items are VERY gently used and in really good condition.

So I’m basically echoing most of the other reviews when I say they really are overpriced and not selective enough.
A pair of infant shorts should NOT be over $ 5.
An infant dress with a giant stain should NOT be over $ 7 (or even sold at all, in my opinion)
Also, my mother in law bought a few toys from here for my daughter and they all had giant pricing stickers on them that left horrible residue so I cannot resell them or even give them away later on.
Once Upon a Child (at the Y in Oak Hill) will give you more money for your stuff (they are pickier, but I appreciate that when buying), they’re clothes are priced way better, and it doesn’t feel like a giant garage sale! Definitely try there first.

I want to like it, as i truly believe buying new kids clothes is a total waste, but I see two problems with PP.
1. They are not selective enough about what they accept for clothing. I think they need more known brands and more modern style choices. I dont need high end like boden or anything, but i usually cant even find carters or old navy.
2. They overprice their items, esp clothes. Considering the massive sales old navy & carter has, i can get new for basically the same prices as PP offers for used. It’s frustrating. I drop by a lot hoping for some steals, but always leave there empty handed. I called about a baby gate the other day, and it was priced at $ 90. I found new on amazon for $ 70. I called about a moses basket, and it was again $ 90. I found one on craigslist for $ 15. Used PJs for $ 8. I don’t get the pricing.

Boooo — don’t waste your time. The «girls» working here don’t know a thing about brand names or clothing.
I brought in a load of precious baby girl clothing in pristine condition. They didn’t take the best items for the season for which they’re currently buying. Meanwhile, as I’m waiting for them to look through my for-​sale items, I looked through the clothes they actually have on the racks: all wrinkled and pilled with loose strings. Are you kidding? I wouldn’t even send some of those items to a garage sale.
Don’t waste your time here. They don’t understand quality children’s clothing.
In addition, they told me they’re usually overrun with maternity clothes and maternity items, in general. Really? Not that I saw.

This store is a real gem. I absolutely love the new location near Strait Music (S.Lamar and 360). It’s light and bright and is quite a bit bigger than the old one on Lamar. I am a very thrifty shopper and see no reason to pay retail for kids’ clothes. I have outfitted all 3 of my kids over the years, especially when it came to special occasion clothes for weddings, 1^st communions, etc. I even found a pair of competition ice skates for my daughter. The only time my kids have had cool boutiquey clothes is when I found them at the Patch.
They are picky about what they buy (which is why the inventory looks good!). Most of my clothes had been through a kid or 2 before I went to sell, so I went in with the expectation that they wouldn’t be able to buy everything. The good news is that they will donate anything that they can’t take, which is all I would do anyway.

So so. Clothes seemed pretty overpriced for used and hardly had any selection in the sizes I needed. They also looked pretty well used. Did see a couple of possible deals on an exesaucer and bumbo that I may go back for. Other things were priced only 5 bucks off what a brand new item would cost in the store. I’d rather get new for $ 5 difference on equipment.

I went to go sell a basket full of clothes and a couple of toys and books and wow was that a waste of time. The woman that helped me was snobby about the whole process and I really wanted to tell her YOUR the one buying my USED crap. Never will go back! Oh I looked around the store while she rummaged through my stuff and everything is overly priced. I can buy a new shirt for my son for $ 6. Waste of time!

I like to consider myself somewhat of a ‘bargain shopper,’ especially when it pertains to children’s clothing and items. My kids are spoiled, dressed amazingly well and I can honestly say they wear better clothes than me and could probably open their own retail toy store with the overflow of toys in our home. Now, with that being said in order to dress my little guys fly, I have to find great deals, because it’s senseless especially when buying children’s clothes to pay full price. And let’s be real with one another, they outgrow everything so quickly it’s idiotic to pay $ 20.00 on a single t-​shirt.
I happened to be on a major ‘bargain’ search and came across «The Pumpkin Patch,» (off Lamar) and little did I know this consignment shop would be an utter disappointment. I had been in the market for a toddler car seat (I’m fairly certain my two year old had gone through more car seats than I have cars), and I don’t feel justified spending $ 200.00+ dollars (again) for something he’ll outgrow in a month or a year. Now, they had a few displayed, but wow – 1990’s called and they’ve recalled your stock, they literally had a car seat that was a blast-​from-​the-​past I think I may of parked my little bottom in one as a child. They also had a few Britax (top of the line), both of which were in less than appealing condition and were marked $ 5.00 under the retail price. I kid you not, how impractical is it to pay full price for a highly used item you can buy brand new (and can guarantee safeness and where it came from)?
Now, keep in mind I believe this location is fairly new (at least opened within the last year or so), definitely not too many consigners are aware of it; which could explain their through the roof prices and stock of items. A majority of the items were out-​of-​date and overpriced, nothing that generally captured my interest.
I did happen to browse a bit at the clothing/​shoes (mostly very worn and outdated), beds (they had numerous cribs, in fare condition, pricing seemed stout, but I did not pay much mind to it). They did have an IKEA bunk bed listed for $ 99.00 in less-​than-​ehh-​condition, which retails at about $ 129.00, frankly I’ll buy new for that price), strollers (pssh – flash back to the 90’s again), and more.
From a mama’s perspective I’ll pass on going again and I’ll keep driving to Round Rock’s Once upon a Child store (off Gattis School), and can only hope with time their merchandise and pricing improves.

I have shopped in here a few times, and found most things to be dirty and higher priced. Especially the toys and gear. In the old location they had household furniture in the back which gave me the impression they are not very focused.
I normally shop and sell at Once Upon a Child in Oak Hill, and I have always been very pleased with that store and I always get way more money then I expect on resale.
I went in one afternoon to the Pumpkin Patch to sell some clothes, neatly piled in a laundry basket, exactly how I stack my clothing for resale at Once Upon a Child. The lady glanced at the clothes and quickly snipped, «we aren’t taking anymore summer clothes»…I called ahead to be sure they were still buying clothes that day and the girl said yes, and didnt mention they weren’t taking clothes of a certain season.
She woudn’t even look at the stack of clothes I had… I felt really weird. mad that she seemed to think my resale items weren’t good enough to sell in her dirty store.
I also felt embarrassed and stressed, the way she so quickly denied me… I was holding my 6 mo old baby & her used clothing! it wasnt easy getting in and out of my truck.
That experience alone made me never ever want to go back… i dont care that they are in a new location.
I went to Once Upon a Child with the same basket the next day and they gave me $ 37 …they held the door for me… they asked if I need help to the car… they smiled.
I dont want to waste my time trying this location again, since I feel I have a good thing going in Oak Hill. Sorry GRUMPY Patch. If you like snotty granola Austin, this place is for you.

The owner wrote back and i am sorry to say they are wrong. No, I watched the clerk go thru all my boxes of clothes and on 2 of the boxes she picked up a huge handful and dropped them back down without looking thru a single one. I am sure you have fired this girl by now and if not-​if biz is bad-you’ll know why. if you really cared why did you not answer the letter I wrote and mailed to you that had my address and phone number in it at the time? As the young folks say so well-​FAIL!
Oh and store owner you made a mistake my son’s clothes were not 0−9mos. They were 0 – 9 years old. So I had a ton of clothes you could have bought.

I am sobering up my rating. I still like this business and go there occasionally, but I think my first several experiences weren’t representative of the norm. I believe I just got extremely lucky at the beginning. The last several times I’ve been, I haven’t found what I was looking for, and the prices seem to be higher (or maybe I got poorer). The last time I went to sell, they did buy much of what I bought, but gave me much less than I expected. I took it because what’s a broke-​ass to do? So, don’t rule this place out, but don’t expect a miracle either.

This place is o.k. I agree with the other reviewer that it is areal hassle to sell anything to this shop. I would rather not waste my time and take the donation from the goodwill.
In addition to this, I noticed last time I was in that there were toys that someone had bought from the goodwill for $.99 there that they were then trying to sell for $ 5. That is a little shady, and I don’t really trust a store that would do that knowingly. I mean, atleast take off the green goodwill tags.
I will probably check in here every now and then for things we need for my daughter, but their selection is really bad. I went to look for 18 month jeans and they had none on display. Strange… Maybe because it’s summer, but I am always looking for things out of season anyway…
Last, I got to witness the owner or manager actually having an argument with a customer the last time I was there. It was very unprofessional, and I can’t believe that the woman even bought anything from them after it happened. She had already been rung up and paid and the owner/​manager made her return items that were rung up incorrectly. She claims she got them off of the sale racks, but the manager basically told her she was lying. Wow…
They also looked at me crazy when I tried to sell a stroller bag you use when traveling. Only offered me $ 6 since they had never heard of it before. Forget that… I’ll sell it on Craigslist and get more for it there.

I’m all about bargains especially when your child will outgrow something you bought them just last week. This place has everything for your child. They have cribs, sheets, clothes, toys, all kinds of furniture for children AND adults, super cute GENTLY USED diaper bags, strollers, jumpers. the list goes on and on. I frequent this place and save lots of $$.
After all, mommy needs monay for some drinkay drinkay.
The only thing that SUCKS is the traffic on S. Lamar. Good luck turning into the place and even better luck getting out of the place without waiting 10 minutes for some nice person to let you in. Go early. Avoid the traffic.
