This is a good place for dancing. The bartenders are always great, the DJ is usually good, and the dance floor lights up. On weekends in the summer it gets crazy packed and really hot, so it’s not always worth it. However, during chillier months or during the week, it’s a cool place with room to dance.

As hopping around the bars in the late evening, this wasn’t particularly the kind of scene I would want any kind of bar to be in. The bar, somewhat early on in the evening(around seven or so) was filled with a lot of regulars/older patrons. While that’s awesome to have a place for every generation, it didn’t do anything for me. It was almost as if we had walked into a high school cafeteria and different cliques were at separate tables. The bartender was nice enough, and appreciate that. He also made a wicked strong amaretto sour, which I loved. He was very nice to us, although didn’t really engage us in conversation or check in on us. Which is okay, we just sat down at a booth and observed. I love the dance floor, enjoyed the music, and was a little overwhelmed by the bathroom situation. The bathroom said«All genders». I appreciate that sign, but felt uncomfortable not noticing a man using the urinal beyond the stalls and immediately backtracked out of there. Perhaps I’m not used to being outside of the sex binary mindset of society, but it was an even more uncomfortable situation walking in on that as it would be for most people, I’d say. A solution for every gender and sex would be to include the traditional sex binary bathrooms while including a gender nonspecific bathroom for those that feel more comfortable using those bathrooms. It would eliminate a lot of uncomfortable situations, methinks. Rain falls somewhere between a two and a three for me, but since they seem to provide a place of love and support for the older gay generation, three seems like the better option to me.

Well, don’t go here. I was just kicked out because they felt someone in my party was too«street» to be in their establishment. Rain you are NOT better than that. I am part of the lgbqt community as is my cohort that was dressed appropriately. You were in the wrong tonight. Completely absolutely 100% WRONG. I am a guest that happens to not want to use a card. Period. That doesn’t mean anything other than just that… I won’t be back.

I kinda wish the place was a bit bigger. I liked the male dancers tho. Small dance floor but a good time all and all.

Ok, so I was misdirected. Was looking for a gay/mostly lesbian bar and this place was full of 60yr+ Queens! They were extremely wonderful and let me enjoy drinks, but if you are looking for a «girls club», this isn’t it!

I adore Rain. Like, I would rather be here than any other club or bar on a Saturday night. It’s always a party. I’ve never been here and had it be dead. It’s one of the longest running and in my opinion, best gay bar in Austin. There is a lighted dance floor that is always packed, gogo dancers in cages, and there is always an event going on. Thursday strip off, karaōke, you name it. Bartenders are good looking and the drinks are strong and well priced.

Walked in here to grab a quick drink on a Friday night around 7PM and the place wasn’t empty, but it wasn’t popping off yet. The drinks were cheap, the bar was nicely lit and clean and the dance floor had some crazy lights! I wish I would have gotten to stay around because I’m sure the place could be a ton of fun later in the evening. A simple standard gay bar, but the service was great and the bar tenders were friendly.

this bar is gross. It has definitely gotten worse over the years. when is Austin going to get a proper gay scene?

My sister and I went here this past weekend after leaving Rainey Street because we were told it was the best place to go dancing. The dance floor is kind of small but we loved it and had so much fun. There’s a patio/bar out the back also where we hung out and met some really nice people. The bartenders there were great, we loved the atmosphere and we’re definitely going back on our next girls weekend in Austin. We were really impressed.

I came here on a Friday night and had a really great time! There’s a couple nice outdoor areas with ample seating, a few bars, room to mingle, room to dance – pretty much everything you’d want in a bar. The drinks were cheap & strong. The vibe inside is casual with a hint of glam. Just alternate between Rain and the two bars next door(Castro’s and Oilcan) and you’re sure to have a great night!

So this club is okay. But not my Kiss and Fly! They even took the stripper poles away. That was my favorite part. The drinks are good. But then again I have never paid for my own drinks there. ;) … The music is good and the floor is always packed with people. The club doesn’t start getting packed until about 11pm. Before that its just dead. if you want a outside cabana area, you have to claim it early. People are generally nice and I haven’t run into any drama. I used to go a lot before my gay squad moved to Round Rock. Again once you had a taste for Kiss and Fly and their three levels of fun. Its hard to not see the flaws in this place.

There’s not much to not like about Rain. They keep the line moving, so you don’t have to wait to get in, the music is always on point, the drinks are great, the bartenders know their shit, and the selection of men is vast. Still, it’s a do-your-own-thing kind of place, so my straight friends are happy to come here as well. Some fun things to note: The dance floor is small but one of the coolest in Austin. There is a patio/bar right when you walk out the back doors, but keep walking for an additional patio/bar in the very back. National Karaōke League performs here Wednesday evenings, which is always entertaining and worth a watch. Literally some of the best music in town. It’s on a street full of good bars, so it’s great for a quick stop or for a few hours. If you haven’t gone yet, definitely go.

Dance club! Good music! Dancers on platforms. Dress to impress. Please note that there minimal amounts of ladies, come on out ladies!

Too. Much. Fun. I danced and drank all night. And all the men in their employ made me feel like an adored princess – everything was, «Baby this, Baby that.» LOVEIT. Cheap drinks, good DJ, friendly crowd. Will return when I’m back in Austin!

With a two staff vigilant door presence, I prepared to show my ID. What I didn’t prepare for was this — The not so cute, but smug door senior, with the bad haircut and dull outfit chided me as a greeting. «I’m sorry sir we can’t let you in here unless you pull your pants up.» As though I was already putting up a fight. «Yeah.» The other door guy confirmed. My pants weren’t even that low. «I’m sorry we have a dress code here.» Again, as though I was protesting. I pulled up my pants. «No sagging.» He added. «Is this okay?» I sought his approval. «Is my hair okay?» I sweetly said with sarcasm. I think I threw him off guard. They signaled an okay entry. «It’s just like being in Dallas.» I said with a cutting upbeat politeness as a sauntered in. All that, and it was empty inside, the crowd was boring and the music was too. I’ve had fun here before but this experience was pretty lame. I quickly left. Keep Austin(like old 1980) Dallas.

Oh, Rain. My long history with you. It’s been quite a while since I’ve visited, but I’ve been going for the last few weeks. I’m a member of the National Karaōke League and we just moved to Rain for our new season. We’re probably going to stick around. Since I last went, the pole is gone. Now there are interesting cages around the dance floor. There’s this amazing new extended back patio off of the already great back patio. There’s a new staff, but I still remember Scott and Jonathan(although they most certainly don’t remember me). The current staff is just as great and there’s one in particular that is pretty excellent. I’ll definitely keep going to him. The microphones are amazing, the atmosphere is fun. The bartenders are great. It’s easy to park over at City Hall. I will reiterate that the back patio and the new extended patio are really great. On non-karaōke nights, it’s still just as great. The DJ’s are pretty quality people and they know what they’re doing. My first time back, the door guy said«Welcome. Come on in.» and I think that speaks a lot about how welcoming they are to everyone.

For gay people, Rain is Austin’s best meat market. For straight girls, Rain is a place for fun dancing instead of sexy dancing, all while repeatedly exclaiming how much you love gays. For straight guys with their girlfriends, Rain best experienced repeatedly making out with your girlfriend. For straight guys on the prowl, please please please go away. It’s sleazy and pathetic to hit on girls at a gay bar. On too many occasions I have had to save a girl by wedging myself between her and some dirty guy, and that is not what I came here to do. But really, I like Rain. I like dancing to the stupidly fun music. I like the bartenders that say babe after everything. I like sitting on the giant couch things in the middle lounge part. And on the back patio, I like chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool(shooting some b-ball outside of the school). Or, you know, inhaling some second hand smoke. I think some people here take Rain too seriously. This place is fun and stupid and loud. As it should be.
