Shadow Oaks Apts

This was my first home away from home and believe me I was told a lot (bad) about this place. The most of all, the management charges every now and then for useless stuff.
However, after staying at this apartment for 2+ years, I wouldn’t agree to most of the stuff.
Yes, they are strict but I don’t see a reason why they shouldn’t be. If you make stuff dirty, you got to clean it.
What I liked about this apartment —
1) All basic stuff is at walkable distance.
2) Staff is very helpful and given the community is small, they know every one.
3) All maintenance issues were solved in 1 day.
What was difficult for me —
Their policy on adding and removing someone from lease.
They only accept Check/​Money order for rent.
Rent is little on higher side but those + points mentioned above I can live with it.

Management adds even more random fees than normal to the application process to wring every possible dollar out of you. Beware the «application deposit!» Keeping your $ 100 is more important to them than good customer service or bad publicity.

I’ve lived at Shadow Oaks for a year and I only have minimal complaints. The complex is small, older, and free of amenities… which I love. And there are lots of Middle Eastern people that live here and I love that too! They are friendly neighbors. :-)
There are only about 100 units, so it’s quaint and quiet. I never hear my neighbors, which is a testament to the complex being built in the 80’s when they actually used concrete and thick drywall as opposed to paper, chewing gum, and Popsicle sticks like the newly built apartment complexes these days.
My only complaint: maintenance comes into the apartment whenever they want to. I’m not for certain, but I left an AMEX gift card near my computer and now I can’t find it for the life of me. I really hope I misplaced it, but I don’t think so… but I can’t prove it.
Lock up your valuables if you end up living here.
Other than that, can’t complain. I’ll miss this place when I move out.

Good price, great apartments, non-​intrusive management, good maintenance, awesome pools and good workout room. Shadow Oaks rocked.
We had zero issue with the management, maintenance was quick and friendly and the layouts were great. Our apartment was clean on the way in and almost as clean on the way out. The grounds are green with trees all around the place and we never heard our neighbors. There is a dog-​walking area for those with a canine affection.
The big star here was the second pool, as it is surrounded by a garden fountain that drops petals into the pool. It’s cleaned often and they have a volleyball net set up during the heat of the summer for some pool volleyball. If I had any excuse to live in North Austin again, I would be checking this place out.
If I could change anything, I’d set up later hours on the pool and workout room.
