Owner did finally send a gift card, but when I went to use it, short bus subs was closed! Since it was the day after Thanksgiving, I checked the hours on their website, and they should’ve been open. No sign anywhere posted that they were going to be closed that day. I can’t even use the gift card given to me.

I’ve always loved their sandwiches! The Bully is my favorite. For a while, though, I stopped going on account of this guy whose attitude and attire made me lose my appetite. As an «old punk rock», it takes a little bit to gross me out. But he did. He’s gone now. Life is good again. Part of the reason for this review is to cover an incident that happened yesterday, in case the dog lady indeed writes a bad review as threatened. I want this stated for the record: A lady decided to bring her two large labs to the food court yesterday, which… okay, it’s a park. Good for her. HOWEVER, when one of the dogs started growling, barking and pulling toward the infant in the stroller on their way in, my sister and I were already fuming. I bit my tongue, because nothing happened. Then, when one of the dogs ran off momentarily, I realized that she has a dog training issue, and is probably too tied up in «how cute they are» to actually teach them their boundaries. It’s not hard, there are even TV shows to help. ANDTHEN one of the dogs snapped in the face of the 5 year-old boy(whom she allowed to approach her dogs)…again, I was pissed. She apologized to the boy and the mother, completely dismissing any action on her dogs’ part. The mother accepted her apology, bit her tongue, and left with her son. Our new friend, from Short Bus, made a comment that was at the tip of everyone’s tongue. It escalated into a verbal shouting match. Even though I don’t think our friend from Short Bus handled it well, I also don’t think she was in the wrong for making a comment. We’ll definitely be back, and hopefully untrained-dog lady will not.

I convinced myself for some reason that I’d already done a review on s.b.s. I really had myself convinced and I was wrong. I found this establishment back in 2012 hunting for something as usual. I go to the location on Airport Blvd behind the Mueller complex. I’ve never had an issue with my food nor the staff. The guys that usually hold it down are always nice and respectful. I generally call my order in and to date the principal is my sub of choice. I always skip the roast beef and opt for extra turkey because I’m not big on roast beef. The bread they use is a nice, soft and hearty wheat/white medley. All I know is that it’s gooooooood. I mean the flavor of the bread and heartiness of it is nice. I’ve never had hard edges or very crusty bread but still stout. The holes in the bread are nice and I can tell it gets a good rise in their oven. The smaller sub is about as far as I’ve been able to fight. I have no plans on trying to go further than that. It appears to me that the meats being used are quality. They taste fresh as if they were at least shaved/sliced the same day. I like the flavor of the turkey, almost a honey turkey taste to me. The veggies are always fresh and plentiful as well. If I had one complaint it’s that sometimes your dressing i.e. mayo or mustard can be a bit much and kind of drown out the veggies. One thing I love though is that bread holds ups… I HATESOGGYBREAD! Yes I screamed that because I do… sorry childhood memories where I was force fed soggy bread at belt point.(sniffles). Anyway if you’re in the vicinity of one of their buses do yourself a favor. Go online to their website and look at the menu. Decide what seems your style and order it. They’ll have it ready when you arrive trust me. They also have chips, pickles and cookies too. Give them a try and you’ll see for yourself.

The buffalo chicken sandwich had way too much sauce with way too little chicken. The chicken was also wierdly spiced that did not work well with the sauce. The bread was good.

Got the Hot Teacher. Ingredients were meh, the filling to bread ratio was poor, and the bread was definitely not fresh.

I love Short Bus subs. I think some of the reviews are aren’t fair. People have to remember that its a FOODTRUCK not a 5 star restaurant. Geez Their food is always hot, is prepared exactly how you order(not a tomato fan and to date i’ve never had to take forgotten tomatoes off my sub), the people working are so friendly and nice and the food comes out fast. The bread is always fresh and toasted well and the meat and toppings are perfect. Keep up the great job Short Bus, we love ya!

I ordered the Jalapeño(chicken) 6 inch sub. I ordered mine«easy on the sauce». It was warm but that was the only thing good about it to be honest. It had 5 – 6 small chunks of chicken, some lettuce, some jalapenos and NO tomatoes. AND it was drenched in chipotle sauce. So I paid $ 6 for warm bread drenched in sauce. Not good at all! I wish I had taken a picture. (This was the roaming truck)

I am a bit conflicted to rate this place so low but I was angry when I opened my sandwich, the Sunrise Sub, and noticed that there was no mushroom or green/red bell peppers. The sandwich includes eggs, cheese, green/red bell peppers, mushrooms, onion and your choice of bacon or ham. The first time I went, they gave me ham instead of bacon and today I decided to give it another go. I was going to make sure they gave me bacon instead of ham this time and when I opened my sub, I noticed the lack of everything except the eggs and cheese. Not going to lie, the subs are great, but if they don’t have enough ingredients to make the full sandwich, the should tell the customers. I decided not to make a big deal out of this but I was very upset and definitely not going back.

We ate lunch at Short Bus Subs at the Mueller location today. We were visiting the park & just stopped by the food trailer area . We were very happy we decided to try Short Bus Subs. The subs were delicious! I’m a vegetarian & really enjoyed the«Cheerleader» sub with avocado, cream cheese, tomato & sprouts. The bread was delicious. We will definitely be going back!

I like this place and I feel a LITTLE bad writing this review, but I think it needs to be out there. Short Bus Subs DOESN’T FOLLOWTHESCHEDULEONTHEIRWEBSITE. I have tried to go to this location several times over the last month and the bus wasn’t even there, even though the website indicated they were open. It’s a total waste of my time to drive out there only to find nothing. I know I’m in the right place because I’ve been here before many times. Not updating your schedule is disrespectful to customers. I won’t bother trying to go back because for all I know, no one will be there and it’ll end up being another time waster. I understand you’re a bus and you can move around, but make an EFFORT to update where you’re going to be.

After driving by the short bus a million times I finally decided to try it. The only guy working was very friendly and explained everything. I didn’t like having to pick either 6 inch or footlong. 6 is too small the footlong too big and 12 dollars. Went with the footlong. Got my girlfriend the 6 inch turkey and I got roast beef. They both have clever school themed names i don’t remember. I really wanted to like it, but I just didn’t. The bread is so thick it overwhelms the taste of the meat, which wasn’t impressive either. It wasn’t that it was bad, just not worth 18 bucks for two sandwiches when you could make something better at home. My girlfriend couldn’t finish hers, said the turkey was rubbery or something, and she’s not a picky eater. But don’t take our words for it. Maybe we’re just weird. Go experience it yourself. Cool theme and friendly service.

This was the first food truck I got to try in Austin. We just landed and we were famished. I saw a small food truck park and drove right in. Short Bus was the only one open. I got the Hot Teacher and it was delicious. It was the perfect amount of food too. Definitely a fan!

A little tucked away, in the small food trailer court on the corner of the Mueller development, next to the open-sided airplane hangar(bandshell?) thing. I got the Italian sandwich, six inch. I guess they call it ‘The Bully’. The names lack subtlety. I actually avoided coming here for a while because of the name of the business itself(a riff on the transportation of special needs kids?), but no longer. They make their own breads, the ingredients are high quality, and prices fair. They make a tasty sandwich. They also have a big discount if you use the Paypal app.

For the second time! Second time! I have gone when they open and waited for them to put their magnets on, take stock of their groceries, and then when asked what I would like they take my order only to tell me they do not have propane! Okay, well, what does that mean? They recommend that«no sandwich be served cold.» Well, why the heck did you open? Why the heck did you take my order? Why the heck did you make me wait? I asked them, «well, should I order and wait, when will the propane get here?» «Oh, well the guy should be here between 10a and 2p so…» SO, let me finish — DONOTOPENFORBUSINESS. Good sandwiches when they get their act together. Put up a sign or change hours. Lost my business. .. finally.

Bummer. The Field Trip is now on the chalk board, but its vegetarian now and they’ve 86’d the sprouts. and cucumbers — and in fact it is nothing like the sandwich I loved. They seem to have gotten rid of all the delicious cukes and sprouts from all sandwiches, i guess? VERY disappointing. Just not the same at all. The sandwiches are still OK, the bread seems a little mushier, though, and my fave ingredients and sandwiches are gone. I can no longer give this place the hearty thumbs up I did before. Not bad, but no reason to rush over there either. If you’re already close by, it’s going to serve you something OK. But my advice? Skip it, and go the extra five minutes to MELVIN’S COMFORTDELI. Best sandwiches ever.

Ok Short Bus Subs, this review update is well over due! So, after my first review I received an email from the owner wanting to have my try them again! I hadn’t gotten a chance to but, low and behold they were one of the food trucks at the Great Austin Food Race at the venue I manage. The owner was working and he remembered me and my review and offered to make me a sandwich on the house. He was super sweet and the next time I passed by his truck he had a hot«The Bully» sandwich waiting for me. I wasn’t super hungry but, I knew I had to give the sandwich justice by at least giving it a bite while it was hot. I went in my office and unwrapped it and BAM that sandwich was off the hook compared to my last sandwich! SHORTBUSSUBS, I WILLNOWSINGYOURPRAISES! The meat was fresh, tons of toppings, great topping to meat ratio, bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and all the flavors were competing to claim my taste buds. I ended up eating ¾ of the sub sandwich and I wasn’t even hungry! It was just that good. Thanks to the owner for being so accommodating and actually caring which each individual customer has to say about his product. He really went the extra mile to make me a Short Bus Believer!

I loved the location in Mueller. Their staff was fast, friendly and had good recommendations. I enjoyed the outside seating surrounded by other food and drink trucks or the option to sit under the hanger in back of the parking lot. I like my roast beef sandwich and thought the toasting was perfect, but I would have appreciated more stuff inside. I probably wouldn’t go back unless they had a discount.

Very tasty. The bread is better quality than most sub shops you’ll find around here(and toasted!), and the fillings are a little more highbrow. There are cheaper subs out there, but it’s well worth the extra dollar or two for a better sandwich. The staff was really friendly and nice. I’ll be coming back!

These bus-drivers catered an event I went to the other night. I was dubious as I generally have a I Can Make My Own Sandwich, Thank You Very Much policy for the following reasons: 1) Subs made by other people are dry. 2) Subs made by other people either have no filling, or too much filling. 3) There is usually too much bread. Well, I was pleasantly suprised when I ordered the Hot Teacher from Short Bus(mushrooms, peppers, pesto, cheese, etc.) and it was warm, proportional and moist. ANDTHEBREADWASTOASTED, YOUGUYS. They hit the awesome sandwich trifecta. I would pay for this sandwich, hands down, which I cannot say for other sandwiches in town that I could easily beat the pants off of with my own cooking. So, they serve cookies and chips in addition to sandwiches. I had a chocolate chip and it was not memorable and had too little chocolate, so I’d stick your calories on the sandwich instead. If you’re considering this for a catering event, it was great and didn’t take too long for us to get our sandwiches — so there was never a huge backup. I’d consider that a plus so that my guests would remain happy and carb-ful.
