The nurses here are wonderful. Truly. Especially the post partum nurses and some of the lactation consultants. My issue is with the pediatric care. Not even two days after my son was born I was told he was low on blood sugar(hypoglycemic) and not getting enough from my colostrum. The doctor there pressured me through the nurses to immediately start supplementing with formula. I’ve consulted with other(more advanced/progressive) doctors and lactation experts and there’s ZERO evidence based science supporting that protocol. BABIESAREDESIGNED to handle a little dip in their blood sugars. What should have happened was getting me a PUMP sooner and drawing more of my colostrum. Or a little bit of sugar water would have been second best. Formula is fine, but studies show giving it within the first two days of birth can cause sensitivities/allergies to milk/soy. AND it could have derailed my efforts to breastfeed exclusively. Also, it definitely effected the early colonization gut flora in my new baby. Here are reasons why this shouldn’t have been advised: Also, the pediatrician wanted him to drink nearly 40mL… I later read that his stomach was the size of a marble. WHY was I told he needed to drink that much so early? Also, the constant pricking of his heel for this was AWFUL and unnecessary. He was healthy(thankfully) but SO young and mostly just needed to sleep and nurse with his mom. There are studies that show these painful little procedures at the hospital can distress a neonate so much that it has an effect on how he deals with pain for the rest of his life! I felt everyone could have been more gentle, or supplied local pain relief. There are actually studies that have shown that even just being held and nursed by mom offers the BEST pain relief and lowers their heart rates and distress. Why didn’t anyone know that? MOMS: Have them do all tests and procedures with baby in your arms or close by. There is no need for them to remove them from the room at any time unless there’s an emergency.

If you want DIY health care, this place is for you. Ask for information about billing estimates after insurance coverage and insurance networks, get sent to the folks who handle financial hardship. Register online, and… Nothing happens. You have to follow up by calling multiple numbers to find the right living breathing person to move the ball along after being dropped in online form hell. Sometimes, you call a phone number to follow up… And it doesn’t even ring.(It wasn’t my phone, I tried other numbers.) So far, the only correct information I’ve gotten was the result of my husband leaving work and wandering around the hospital for a few hours, to finally end up in labor and delivery, where a nurse was able to give him more info than a wrong number and a postcard.

This place is amazing. Not only new, nice, clean… but the staff are all so nice. I had gone in to have my baby here and all of my nurses were great! I had a 30 hr labor so I saw many of them. Dr. Campaign deliviered my baby and even though I didn’t really get the best introduction to her in my room, she turned out to be what I needed. I had an almost 10lb baby… she delivered her with no tearing or cutting. I also had an epidural, it went very smoothly and all the nurses talked me through it. At Seton I had some damage to one I had gotten with a previous pregnancy that is now permanent… So this was a relief! After the baby was born, they didn’t rush us to postpartum. My boyfriend and I ordered food, held our baby, fed her etc. Then they asked ME when I was ready to go. They helped with the baby and all our stuff down to postpartum, when we got there… again, everyone is so nice. They helped get all of our records when leaving, I also had lactation consultants helping me nurse, the food was great, and can’t mention the staff enough. So nice. The head nurse came in and also checked in with us, which I thought was pretty amazing. When We wanted sleep, we gave the baby to the nursery and they woke me up so I could feed her, which allowed us uninterrupted sleep. They give all the baby items to you when you leave as well. So we were stocked on her diapers, pacifier, booger suckers, etc. I want to come back if I have another baby for sure. I want to come back just to stay one more night in this hospital even if I wasn’t having a baby! Deliver here. Its great.

Every staff member was extremely sweet to me and made my surgery process very comfortable! I would definitely recommend the St. David’s women center for any type of female surgery! My plastic surgeon Dr. Thompson was absolutely amazing as well. They answered all of my questions thoroughly and made me feel at ease. Love love love this hospital!
