Ok Starbucks associates — let’s have a quick team huddle. All Starbuckaroo hands on deck! The regional junior manager just called. Corporate was suprised and dismayed to find out they have three Starbucks on Congress Avenue all just a few blocks from each other. After finger pointing and arguing they decided to shut this store down. All of you from the 1007 S. Congress Store are welcome to jobs at the 6th& Congress store or 10th& Congress Store. As for me, I will be taking some personal time to go whaling. Don’t tell HR I said this, but if you want to find the best coffee on Congress Ave, in order of location from South to North, it’s Ruta Maya, The Garden District, Jo’s, Dominican Jo, The Hideout, and Little City. With 6 of the world’s best independent coffee shops on Congress Ave, why would anyone need 3 Starbucks cluttering the street? 10th& Congress is next to go!

This is one of the hippest starbucks in town — besides the one on West Gate(near William Cannon.) There are good looking guys working there and the place is just small enough to be quaint — like a New York borough kind of neighborhood hang out. It has the advantage that the big roomy Starbucks don’t have: you just have to meet a new friend there because you are in such a city-close-together-environment. It is awesome!

I was picking up my NYTimes on Sunday, and the customer at the other register said«you’re the second customer that’s come in and just got a New York Times, nothing else!». The guy behind me said«make that three». It’s too small to hang out, the patio is noisy, but the staff is friendly, and it’s a reliable NYTimes source. Parking turns over fast in front.

Straight off the bat: I’m totally biased because I know people who work here, but I’m going to write this as objectively as possible. This is a teany, not-so-busy Starbucks with the friendliest — the absolutely friendliest people — I’ve ever met in Austin. I don’t even drink Starbucks but you can learn a lot about the people in Austin by hanging out at this place for just an hour. Really hip, deaf students who attend a school across the school come here in the afternoon; old, non-assuming musicians(famous in their own right) hang out here and talk about new musicians; and«milk bandits,» homeless squaters who hang out on SoCo, come in for water but fill their cups with the milk at the condiments table. Oh yeah, if you don’t like coffee get the iced Raspberry Tazo tea. I like it because it’s tart yet refreshing.
