I so want to like this place. Have been here several times over the years(even back when it was a Mexican restaurant), and sadly, must echo the sentiment that many others have already stated. When I first went in there after it became SG, the beer selection was mediocre at best, drinks unimpressive, food was there, but bland. Few months later, went back. It was darker in the bar, beer selection had massively improved & food was actually good! The last 2 times I’ve been in there, it’s been like an asylum the patients are running. The bartenders are far more concerned with personal, work or personal work drama to pay attention to or serve customers. The sign SAYS Bar & Grill, but there’s no food. I hate seeing this as our area is having an evaporation of locally owned little bars & I don’t want to lose another, but when management refuses to do anything about their own situation, the result is inevitable.

This place may be a ‘dive’ but that’s a good thing as far as I’m concerned. It’s really a neighborhood sports bar, but where I’m from people would compliment it by calling it a ‘dive.’ The bottom line is that the service here is great! First night I walked in the bartender, Valerie, gave me her life story – which I’m sure no one else who’s gotten it is complaining. A bartender who knows how to chat with a lone patron is a golden rarity back home in LA. Made me feel right at home, I’ve been coming back here ever since. Kriss, another bartender here has a great sense of humor; made me laugh anyways – another great trait in a good bartender. Andy, treated me with damn good hospitality, and obviously is popular with the crowd around here. Pool tables, vintage video games, good deals(‘happy meal’ beer and a shot for $ 5!) and a damn good local crowd. The only thing short of me giving this place 5 stars is a lack of tuxedos and ‘chef driven’ cuisine… but I don’t come here for that sort of thing, and neither should you. I come here to have a good time – and I do have a good time every time I’m here. Now, if you’ll excuse me some fool is doing the ‘Texas mumble,’ and I’m gonna need to learn how to understand what Boomhauer is saying. I can speak 4 languages, but this ain’t Tokyo. It’s TEXAS.

This place went downhill when the cook left. Service has been hit and miss last few visits-and last time drinks were crap. No food available last time we were in either. Haven’t been back since. Too bad, cuz it WAS a fun place.

Since this place is walking distance from our house, it makes me very sad that The Stomping Grounds has to continually be so disappointing. The food is/was really good for bar food and the outdoor patio would be great if it were swept occasionally. The bigger frustration though, are the female bartenders who seem to really care less if you are there. After multiple attempts to give them a shot in hopes that things have improved, tonight was the last straw when the bartender literally tossed the menu at my husband while walking away, didn’t bother to even take a drink order. Would have liked to heard the band but not going to beg somebody to be served. I’m a fan of dive bars and not asking for anything more than just a little service and friendliness. Hope they can survive on the few people at the bar drinking beer. We’ll drive the extra 10 minutes to the Hideout or BB Rovers.

Place has gone down the toilet and don’t see them staying around much longer. They no longer have their wonderful food they had once before — now all they have is stuff you throw in the microwave which is HORRIBLE — they have staffing issues and they only take credit cards after 7pm so if you want to pay with cash well your crap out of luck.

I went there on a Thursday after work for a happy hour. Very nice! Indoor outdoor areas pool tables very relaxed atmosphere. The bartender was very friendly and made good recommendations of new drinks to try from beer, ciders and cocktails. Sorry I don’t remember her name. Had the nachos they were good. Great place will go back.

We have been going to this place for about a year… not regulars but still visit. Started out good… service was always a little slow but no big deal. Last couple times we went in, last night being the most recent, kitchen was closed… it was not even 8pm. Last night there could not have been 20 customers in the place and our table were 5 of those customers. There were 2 bartenders on duty at least one of them was drinking shots with a few customers at the bar. Neither bartender would look over our way to see if we needed refills. When I made finally got their attention she came over and said sorry, we do not have a waitress on staff tonight… ummm there are two of you behind the bar and less than 20 people in the whole place, I think the two of them should be able to handle checking on everyone.

This is a great place if you want free drinks! I have been here on a few occasions and it is the same each time. The server is really intoxicated and just throws prices at you. 6 $ for 3 tequila shots and 4 beers? OKAY! Also, they like to talk about what they really do in the walk-in. With that said, there are 3 employees who actually do their job without being completely inebriated. Seriously, who is in charge?

Great waitress. Nice bartender. Nice games. Terrible smell. Horrible restroom. Not a dive bar. Not a hole-in-the-wall. Lacks original content. And yet, $ 4.25 for a Dos. There is potential at this establishment. However, work will need to be done to realize this potential. I don’t ever see this work taking place. I’m attaching a pic of the restroom. If this were a true dive bar, this restroom would be ok. However, this restroom is just sad. And what is even sadder is the fact that the restroom smells better than the bar. Not kidding.

To start off the Smell hits you right at the door, floor are sticky, bathrooms beyond nasty, no paper toils. Music well, if it’s off beat drummers and rushed vocals and one chick screaming at her boyfriend in the band. Then you have arrived… Your in the 80’s zone? Garage bands beginners and slackers apply you’ll be an improvement. Food different, not quite cooked or just boring. Beer’s cold, but the bar is dirty like no ones cleaning at all. On the way out watch out Oh someone has thrown up at the door.

The first thing we noticed when we walked in was the weird sculpture at the entrance and the horrible smell. There was definitely a rank bar smell to this place. We had a few drinks and she had some potato skins which were fine. All the other patrons around us were pretty trashed for 4:00 on a Thursday which was a bit uncomfortable. There were also a bunch of bar flies in addition to the horrible smell we both couldn’t shake.

Pretty cool sports bar. I went on a Friday night and there was live music. It was really loud inside, but the back porch is cool as well. The food is pretty good too, I got the fried cheese quarters for an appetizer and they were really good and I got a pulled pork sandwich which was also really good. I would recommend checking it out although I probably wouldn’t go a lot.

It only takes one bad experience to never go back. Bartender was rude, disrespectful, and extremely unprofessional. Don’t know his name, but beware of man boobs, a backwards Cowboys hat, and plaid shorts. Side note, the rest of the staff was awesome, but like they say, one bad apple.

Just had a terrible experience here. Some old bartender lady(looks like she’s been living the life for like 16 years if you feel me) was extremely rude to me and my date. Slow service and bad attitude is a recipe for failure. Beer was cold but the place smelled like cheese.

* Price is right for most items, kudos to the owner. Love the constant specials(like the Happy Meal) * Food is good, with some unique dishes that I find myself craving from time to time(deep fried avocado!) * Sort of a mixed-vibe watering hole. varies from football games to way-too-loud live music or random playlists * Most the staff are women, and by women I mean young, ditzy, bimbos(sleazy sells for the guys I suppose). A few are definitely more attentive and less cocky than others * Overall a nice establishment, I’m glad it’s so close to my neighborhood

Just stopped in while I’m waiting for my laundry to finish down the road. Grabbed a cold beer and ordered wings and a pulled pork sandwich. The bartender Kirsten is very friendly and helpful with making recommendations from the menu… Just had the wings: killer. Much better than BWW and Hooters for sure

Weird place. I’m giving 3 stars Bc it’s neither here nor there. We went on a Tuesday evening about 6pm. I’m not sure what I expected, but it definitely wasn’t blaring house music with old hippies at the bar. I’m totally cool with the hippies, for the record. The music though, not so much. We walked in and the girl behind the bar welcomed us and told us to find a seat. We chose a booth. 10 minutes later my husband went up to the bar to find out if we order there or what, and she said she didn’t see us come in. Um, you talked to us. Great, this place is full of stupid girls. Sigh. 5 minutes later a girl with face piercings came up. The piercings are fine, again just not what I expected. She seemed annoyed to serve us and didn’t remember the whole beer list(there’s no alcohol list by the way), asked what I liked, said she didn’t know what any of that is(wit, weissbier, German Hefeweizen). Again, stupid girls. Sigh some more. Explain the beers, she says they have Blue Moon. That’s far from what I like. Thanks. I settled on Austin Amber, it was ok. The food was decent but not memorable. My husband and I both got chicken sandwiches. Our tab was $ 40, which I thought was a little expensive for 2 sandwiches and 4 beers. The bread on the sandwich wasn’t good, I just ate the chicken. I don’t specifically remember why. I’m still confused as to what this place is trying to be. Due to the service and lack of beer selection/knowledge we most likely won’t be back. It’s worth a try if you can’t think of anything else to do. Perhaps we went on an off night or something. Or maybe it will be more your taste.

Last night hubby and I came to watch the Spurs VS heat game with 2 of my friends. My college roomie and I were trying to think outside the box and try another place. The reviews on Unilocal got me excited because people really seem to love the place. I’m just gonna put it out there but the service was really spotty. We think the guy that was our server was new. He didn’t seem very smart and I always had a blank look on his face. A few times we weren’t confident that he would correctly execute the orders we gave him. There was a good beer special that we took advantage of $ 2 Modelos. They had some decent beers on draft too. The bar looked impressive. As for the food… Some of the food was good, some of it was over cooked and some was really bland. We started off first with the Japps and Capps which were fried pickles and jalapeños with ranch. It was an impressive presentation(photo included) and they were good. The batter to pickle/jalapeño ratio was decent. The batter seemed to stay on. The jalapeño was interesting. They were tiny morsels of spicy. They more you ate the it got a little more spicy. I originally wanted to get fish tacos but they ran out so I just settled for chicken quesadillas. Hubby got the beef street tacos and our friends shared the sampler platter. They added the wings for an extra $ 3. They also wanted to substitute the pork sliders for other sliders. They were trying to explain what they wanted and our server just didn’t seem to comprehend what they were saying. He said he was going to have to check with the kitchen. In the end it worked out for my friends. We were enjoying the Japps and Capps and the chips and salsa came out from the sampler plate. The salsa was no bueno. It just seemed like tomato paste. No heat and no salt. We all salted the chips and salted the salsa but there was no reviving it. My friends sampler plate came out and it looked really nice. They said that all of it was pretty decent except that everything seemed to be really crispy or almost burnt. The tortillas on their quesadillas where really crispy and the bread on their sliders seemed burned. The potato skins were decent and the wings were MIA. AS they started eating their food my hubby and I were sitting for a little awhile wondering where our food was. They were probably about half was through and I was about to ask where our food was when it finally came out. We realized that they didn’t have their wings so we asked about it and they said«Oh they should be on their way. sorry about that we’ll make sure to take care of those for you.» Before the wings came out the lady server(who was awesome and I wish she was our actual server) dropped off some sauce. We guessed it was for the wings but it was more of a teriyaki sauce then wing sauce. My quesadilla was cooked perfectly. It was just enough crunch but still a little soft. It was very filling. Lots of cheesy goodness with chunks of chicken. Hubby’s tacos were pretty good too. Although since they were street tacos we were thinking that the tortillas would be smaller. Still decent. Tortillas were just your run of the mill store bought ones. The beef was tender and yummy. Our food came out late but it seemed it little better than our friends. We all had mixed feelings and mixed reviews of our food. We hung out and watched the rest of the game. When it was time for our check we asked him to split it up. We were hopeful. He brought it back and it was actually right. Our friends wings were comped and they got at 15% service discount because the wings came out late. Um hello we should have gotten a service discount too because our food came out late. Ugh whatever. So in conclusion… I don’t know. It was such a mixed night. I told my husband maybe we’ll go back to drink but I’m not sure about the food. There were posters advertising live bands, DJs and theme nights. There’s plenty of other places where I can get better food and enjoy a game.
